Dragon Ball is a Japanese media franchise created by Akira Toriyama in 1984. The initial manga, written and illustrated by Toriyama, was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1984 to 1995, with the 519 individual chapters collected into 42 tankōbon volumes by its publisher Shueisha.

The Daima retcon that redefines them as demons is great.
Unfortunately, it also has the unfortunate side effect of making Piccolo remember his evil demon king nature and causes him to lie for no reason. So he says things like "I don't know how to speak Namek"
Wtf. Yes you do! Piccolo Jr & Kami had a whole conversation in Namekian in Dragon Ball. And Piccolo is a fusion of them! Not to mention Nails.
Who do you think would be the perfect girlfriend for oolong? I know he's a perv but even he deserves a little love.
Now that Daima is nearly at its conclusion I think that Toyotaro will come back with the manga serialization. During Daima he had a lot of time to think of what to do with Dragon Ball next, he probably planned the next story arc or two. We still have a lot of plot threads to close with Black Frieza, the next (supposedly) Tournament of Power, the closure with the original ending of the series (we are a year from the ending of Z in the timeline). Do you think Super will surpass the ending and tell new stories in place of GT? What about new movies? What do you expect next?
With all the security pins to get into the demon realm, all the ships out of reach, and teleportation out of range, it's not looking likely.
If they do it, I don't know how it'll be done. Maybe a wish from the dragon balls? It'd be nice to see some characters we haven't seen yet. Weakening the characters was a great opportunity to give some of the human fighters some screen time, and they seem to have decided against that for Daima.
Except movies, are there somewhere any version of DB anime in native UHD 4K (not upscaled)?
I was expecting that Daima, in 2025, would have been released in 4K HDR ...
Thanks
If you want to watch Dragon Ball without filler, follow this order:
Dragon Ball (1986-1989) • Watch episodes 1-28, 34-41, 43-78, 84-126, 132-153 • Skip: 29-33, 42, 79-83, 127-131 (filler)
Dragon Ball Z (1989-1996) – Skip & Watch Dragon Ball Z Kai Instead • Instead of DBZ, watch Dragon Ball Z Kai (2009-2015), which removes almost all filler and improves pacing. • Watch Dragon Ball Z Kai (167 episodes total)
Dragon Ball Z: The Final Chapters (Buu Saga Kai, 2014-2015) • Watch Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters (61 episodes) • Alternative: If you prefer DBZ, watch episodes 200-291 (skip fillers).
Dragon Ball Super (2015-2018) • Watch episodes 1-3, 28-76, 88-131 • Skip: 4-27 (watch Battle of Gods and Resurrection F movies instead), 77-87 (mostly filler).
Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2018) (canon movie, must-watch)
Dragon Ball Daima (2024, upcoming) (Optional, unknown if fully canon yet)
Alternative Movies to Watch Instead of Some Arcs: • Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (replaces Super episodes 4-14) • Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F (replaces Super episodes 15-27)
This order keeps things streamlined and avoids unnecessary filler. Would you prefer a list of just the episode numbers to watch?
Right before the Earth exploded in Dragon Ball GT, Piccolo was shown clutching his stomach, with a small wound bleeding onto his hand. However, no one was seen attacking him. Even if someone had, he should have been able to regenerate easily. His regeneration ability had improved over time—initially, as King Piccolo, he couldn’t regenerate at all, but later, he could regrow limbs, and eventually, as long as his head remained intact, he could fully restore his body. By GT, he was stronger than he was in Dragon Ball Z, so his regeneration should have been even more advanced.
Yet, despite this, the wound remained, and there was no visible attacker. This is especially strange considering that in the Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z, Piccolo was shattered into pieces and still regenerated without any issues.
Yet, this particular wound didn’t heal before the explosion. He chose to die in the explosion so that the Black Star Dragon Balls would turn to stone and no longer be a threat. So, in short, the question is: Who inflicted this wound on Piccolo, and why couldn’t he regenerate from it?
So in a figth with a being that can control all of time vs goku how much can goku resist?
Can he be able to resist to him being erased from the timeline?
Or just simple things like reacting to a time skip?
I've been watching DB since I was a child in the 90s. I could never bring myself to watch GT. Never appealed to me. However, people have been saying the past while "you have to watch it, omg you're missing out". Am I though? Am I missing out? I am stickler for canon concepts in any media I consume (a reason why fan fiction never did it for me). I know the GT canon vs. non canon topic is controversial, but I was under the assumption it wasn't canon and based on what I know of the series I wish to believe that further.
So can I go the rest of my life without watching GT or Am I missing out?? And why?
So I want to talk a bit about dragon ball heroes. This topic always feels forbidden because of how fanservice it is and I don't disagree. Now my question is, was there something or multiple things that you actually liked ? It could be character designs, story ideas (for me it was the creation of a new universe), characters that you actually wished to be canon (for me the supreme kai of time) or maybe new forms that you liked.
Just list as many things that you liked about heroes. I'm curious
So usually dragon ball’s intros are taking reference from events that happen in the show and are referencing the show? However pretty much every environment or sequence from the GT opening never occurs in the show, none of the characters. Except the big monster from episode 6 show up. Is it possible that the intro for dragon ball GT is inspired by the cancelled plots of the unused black star dragon ball hunt episodes?
Like imagine goku was the father, would’ve he been stronger than Gohan? And how different would his life be?
Forgive me if I get confusing. Anime only. Spoilers
In dragonball and dragonball z (trunks time travel)they have the time room on kamis lookout. (not to be confused with the hyperbolic time chamber) In it they can travel to a different point in time.
Is this technically real time travel and if so, isn't that forbidden. Kami is a low rank in comparison to the Kai's, grand, Supreme kai's and the god of destruction etc... so if anything he would have the least authority and less leeway in terms of taboo or forbidden techniques and forms of training and the like.
At one point we learn that time travel doesn't affect that timeline that they come from but it creates an entirety diff timeline. A ring is created and kept secure by the supreme kai so they can access it if needed.
So how is kami able to have a time room at the lookout and use it for something like training. Wouldn't it create a new timeline each time the room is used? It was also a very different situation was present than the one we had been taught.
For entertainment from here on Like when goku went to roshis past. Obviously another timeline had to be created otherwise he would have remembered goku from when he was younger. Also that was a strange place he was sent back to seeing as roshi and shen were completel6 different as well as enemies. Shenco Malfoy, crab, and goyle didn't get along with Ronshi Weasley and Harrku Potterson and fought over Grange Grange who only seemed to take a liking to Harrku Potterson but just as friends and ronshi was too cowardly to ask her out and got away from him. Oh Ronshi, don't worry mate, it happens to all of us. Except Harrku.
There was the turtle hermits house Gi. (Or did popogrid change the insignia)?Harrku had several remade since The Tri Tenkashi tourney, it was different thank the Hermworts house cup where Turtlefyndor battled Slythecrane for the Hermworts House Cup.

It's always wild to see that the fight between Goku and Tien came to Goku getting hit by a fucking car, it's so funny.
Like they know that some evil being much more powerfull that than exist but they didnt train to increis there power or like use the tecnice to beat them. Kaio khow about kaioshin so like kaioshin shold khow the existen of that divine tecnice. (Sorry for bad inglish not my frist languege)
Has anyone else ever noticed that habitually nude characters are almost always presented as villains in dragonball? Whats up with this? Did Toriyama find nudity to be something especially morally questionable? I really noticed this when I started thinking about Cell and Frieza and how it seemed like they were just about the only main characters who don't wear clothes. There are a ton of characters in dragonball, both major and minor, but when you start taking a tally there aren't very many habitually nude ones. But the few who don't wear clothes are almost always villains.
Note, I'm really only talking about anthropomorphic characters here. Obviously it doesn't make sense for characters like Turtle and Shenron to be clothed. Giant dragons obviously don't wear pants, and they typically aren't considered nude for it.
So lets look at some examples:
Giran. The big dinosaur dude from early on in dragonball,(arguably) the first nudist character in the series, and maybe the only real bad guy of the Tournament saga. Whats actually interesting to me is that the scene in the anime where he is wearing a trench coat and hat in the bar appears to be filler. It looks like someone at Toei also thought it was weird that there was a single naked character in the show at this point.
Cymbal. An extremely similar design to Giran. It is kind of odd that he is naked while the rest of King Piccolo's kids aren't, and it may be tempting to chalk this up to the Giran design being difficult to fit clothes on, but I don't buy it. There are other round characters in the series that got clothing. I think that the choice to not give him clothing was somewhat purposeful.
Frieza. Probably the most interesting case. Originally he is clothed in battle armor and a speedo, but as he gets progressively more powerful he starts shedding his clothes. His 2nd and 3rd forms lost the armor and kept only the speedo, while his final form goes fully nude. Is this, in Toriyama's mind, symbolic of Frieza peeling back his layers to reveal his evil nature? Does he associate Freiza becoming more malevolent with Frieza becoming more naked? Its tough to say.
Cell. We follow Cell from birth to death, and he is nude the entire time. Maybe to Toriyama a villain who is born evil should be nude his entire life, who knows? Something that I find interesting is that during the Cell arc Piccolo manifests a set of clothes for Gohan out of thin air. So Cell presumably can do that too and put some pants on at any time, but he chooses to stay naked. Again, maybe in Toriyama's mind that is a natural choice for someone evil to make.
Yakon. I always felt like Yakon had a weirdly intense design for dragonball. It just seems a little bit out of place. And he just straight-up eats one of Babidi's minions alive. Maybe once the decision to have a naked villain in this mini-arc was made Toriyama went a little overboard. Also, Yakon is notable as one of the very few characters that Goku has killed on purpose. Its always been part of Goku's schtick to go out of his way to show villains mercy, but he did in Yakon without a second thought. Is it supposed to be obvious to the reader that this naked monster isn't worthy of mercy? I don't know.
Basil. Some might say that its dubious to call Basil a villain, but I think that the way he and the other Universe 9 fighters are depicted should count. Hes cocky, and he has a cruel streak, and he always has that sneer on his face. What I find especially odd about his design, though, is that no other anthropomorphic dog in the series is nude. Basil's brothers aren't nude. King Furry isn't nude. Shu isn't nude. Countless red ribbon dog soldiers aren't nude. Fighter 40 from the first World Martial Arts tournament preliminaries wasn't nude. Of all the dog people to not give pants, Toriyama chose this one for some reason. Is this part of an effort hammer home that he is supposed to be a villain and not a victim of circumstance, so that we don't feel bad for Universe 9 when they are the first ones erased?
Great Ape Transformations. I thought this might be worth mentioning: when a Saiyan's inner monster comes out and he goes on a murderous rampage, he also loses his clothes. It happened to both Goku and Gohan. Its not like it has to be this way, either. Toriyama has given multiple other characters growing clothes when they grow themselves, yet for this scenario the good guys also lose their clothes when they lose their virtue and turn into temporary villains for the other heros to confront.
Counterexamples:
Korin. By my count, weirdly enough, Korin may be the only anthropomorphic and nude character to appear who isn't a villain. And its odd to me because I don't think he is ever depicted as having a malevolent bone in his body. I really can't come up with a reason why he should stick out. Maybe at some point there was a planned heel turn, but that seems unlikely.
Gregory the Cricket, in case you were wondering, was an anime-only character, and its unclear how much input Toriyama had on him.
Others to consider:
Puar. While she was a villain at first, she is too ambiguously anthropomorphic to be considered, IMO. It isn't really clear if she is supposed to be bipedal or quadrupedal because she floats around, and she holds things in a way that implies she doesn't have thumbs.
Saibamen. While yes, they are anthropomorphs, and yes, they are nude, I don't know if they have enough "personhood" to count. They're almost like wild animals.
I don't know if that list is comprehensive. There is a lot of content in dragonball, and a lot of minor characters, so I'm sure I'm missing something. but I think that the point is, in dragonball nudity = villainy. And like I said above, I think its especially jarring because probably less than 1% of all characters are nude and human shaped, but two of them happen to be two of the bigger villains in the series.
So why do you think this might be the case, if it is the case at all?
I know that goku can somewhat absorb ki (mainly via the genki dama) but what i mean is similar to the androids. If it is, then an way to nerf it, would be that he can only absorb his own ki (which would make him subsequently immune to reflect moves) and/or cancel it out outright.
On that note, one funny thing would funny that he has such ki control to the point his ki can´t be absorbt.
In the Super movies, Paragus is treated like a villain even though he really isn't even that bad at all honestly. He disobeyed a direct order from King Vegeta to go save his son on an inhospitable dangerous planet. It has been stated most sayians do not care for each other beyond a basic sense of camaraderie. This abnormal behavior is rare and is highlighted positively by Bardock and Gine who care for eachother and their children, Paragus is by sayian standards an outstanding individual, he only put the shock collar on Broly because he would've destroyed the planet in his fits of rage killing them both. I honestly really thought they might bring Paragus back or something, but no, he's evil, despite being definitely a better person than Frieza whom they let live to kill innocent people, and Vegeta who has done far worse than Paragus, albeit having attoned at this point.
In-universe, Super Saiyan 2 used to be an "Ascended (Super) Saiyan" until Goku decided to number the forms because he attained Super Saiyan 3. What if he never numbered the forms though? What do you think the new names for 3 & 4 would be? For that matter, would you rename any of the forms in Super to fit better?
I bought the game some time ago, but I haven't picked it up to play seriously yet and I have a question. Is it worth playing even without having seen almost anything about Dragon Ball Super (not to mention anything, I saw until the end of the Frieza resurrection saga)? Or would it be better if I watched the entire Super before that?? I ask this because I'm too lazy to watch 100 episodes of Dragon Ball, no matter how much I enjoy the anime. Does the game explain Goku's new transformations?
I am currently rereading Dragon Ball for the first time in like 15 years and I didn't expect Goku's childhood to take up more than 150 chapters cause I rarely see people talk about this part online. I know the whole DB/DBZ distinction made by the anime (and by certain editions of the manga, I believe) influenced the way people perceive the manga but considering how highly praised it is, I find it wild that so many fans act like ONE THIRD of it is irrelevant or basically doesn't exist.
I'm unclear on the mechanics.
Cell steals Trunks time machine but instead of going back to the unseen timeline he goes back further making a new timeline.
If bulma made a new time machine would she be able to go back to the unseen timeline if she kept the date the same as before. Or would this just create a new timeline, is the machine itself linked to the timeline, and a new one wouldn't be?
Finally. Supers anime had there be a backup CD-ROM which I assume had the settings/coordinates saved. Is there any evidence this was a toriyama idea or purely a toei one? Does bulma have some record of the unseen timelines time space coordinates? does bulma have any chance or has she lost access to that timeline forever?

Gogeta Blue was deffo overwhelmingly stronger than the Vegito Blue that fought Zamasu.
So what happened? Fusion of the Gods is less stable than mortal fusion?
I need some help, I’m not sure on what to watch after I finish the OG dragon ball, I was initially thinking of watching DBZ Kai and just watching the filler episodes from the OG DBZ, but now I’m wondering if it’s better to just watch the OG DBZ while i’m at it, if you can, just try and sway me towards whatever you prefer cause as of now I am completely clueless
A lot of characters have used the Evil Sealing technique in the series, but Tien was one of the first from all the way back in Dragonball. I have this desire to see Tien elevated up to more than just a bulky beater, and instead see him developed into a mystical fighter, using techniques like this or others developed from Wu Wei practices.
It seemed like during the Buu saga, the characters wholly forgot that this technique existed. All of the focus was on the Saiyan's, with Goten and Trunks learning to fuse, Gohan training with the Supreme Kai, and Goku and Vegeta doing what they always do. But Tien would have had a unique method of taking out not just Buu, but Dabora and Babidi before they could summon Buu. It could have been a point of tension in the story with Goku, Piccolo, and Vegeta distracting the two antagonists while Tien and Chiaotzu setting up to seal them away. It could even backfire at this point, making a side story of Tien and Chiaotzu being freed in the end and switching places with Buu.
This seems like a missed opportunity. Like so much of contemporary Dragonball, the answer just turns into someone hitting the villain as hard as they can. Tien like many of the human characters get sidelined because they are inherently underpowered, but I feel this should be countered with alternative techniques like this. Give me a mystic philosophical Tien who uses spirit magic and can counter the magic users of the franchise!
When you die in the Dragon World, the following can happen to you:
You are a good person (or an evil demon king) - you go to heaven. Maybe or maybe not your soul get cleansed of all evil and sin. You live in a fast peaceful plain with happiness and joy. As long as you stay out of trouble, everything will be okay. Examples are Videl, Chi Chi and Dabura.
You are a (very) good person and a martial artist - congratulation, you hit the jackpot. You keep your body, can train in the afterlife at your hearts content or battle other great martial artist in the other world. This happened to Goku, after Cell killed him during the Cell arc.
You are a bad person - you go to hell. You loose your body, that get discarded (or keep it safe for an emergency like Vegeta's body) and as a soul you get cleansed. You loose all of your memory and will be reborn as a different being. It could be a plant, an animal or another human/alien. Alternative you linger in hell for a certain time and then get reborn. Examples are people like Black (from the RR arc), Cell or the Ginyu Force (minus Ginyu).
You are especially evil and refuse reincarnation - you get locked up in a special (ironic) hell, where your greatest fears, shortcomings or things you hate and despise will haunt and torture you until you give in. Our only example is Frieza, but I assume he isn't the only one.
You get killed by a demon - your soul cannot go to the afterlife. It lingers in limbo for eternity (or until you get revived) and "live" in anguish. This was stated, what happened if you get killed by Piccolo Daimao and his children.
My question is, what happened to the average people. Who are good, but have some bad traits. Who live their own life. Do they go to heaven or get incarnated into something different? Is there some sort of statement? I'm very curious.
I just finished the manga of dragon ball super and I don’t understand why people like it all of the gags felt repetitive such as monaka (i do find it funny tho) and buy falling asleep like it was funny the first time but not the 59 times after that and then characters like uub are completely forgotten
