Looking for an old Cinema4D tutorial because the dude had a super deep, relaxing voice

Sorry this isn't really related to the program, but I figure you're the best group to ask. I cannot for the life of me remember the channel, but maybe some of you do?

I think he would introduce his videos with "hey this is Dom". I'm 99% sure the channel name didn't include that name at the time. This would've been somewhere between 2008 to 2014. I know he made some lighting tutorials, some contest entries. He mostly didn't show his face, but made a vlog once where he talked about his setup or camera, or something. Pretty sure he stopped making videos soon after because he pivoted to doing more professional work.

I've spent the past hour and a half trawling youtube and google, idk, send help

Noob With 4D Question

Long time snooper, first time poster. I work 99% of the time in AE, so I'm not great with 4D

Basically, my client has these bent panels with flat colors and strokes around them, so I'm using a sketch and toon shader. They have different colors on each side of the polygons, which I figured out how to recreate. 

Problem is with my model which keeps getting cut / sliced when I rotate! I used a slice in the attributes on a tube object to create the shapes, but when I rotate it adds a cut. (I tried using a bent panel or flattened cube for the shapes but then the different color sides didn't work)

Wondering if there's an equivalent of a PreComp in AE that I should do to bake in the design before rotating? I've tried a bunch of things to no avail, would appreciate any suggestions!

Change Playback Speed

How do I simply change the playback speed to 2X? Like YT, you can watch a video faster... My eyes are a little burned out, but I did look thru the menus, maybe I missed it somewhere; I can't find this setting. I looked it up and AI told me this:

C4D Playback Speed Adjustment

To adjust the playback speed to 2x in Cinema 4D 2025, follow these steps:

  • Open your project and navigate to the Timeline panel.
  • Right-click on the Play button (or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Command+Shift+P on Mac) and select Playback Options from the context menu.
  • In the Playback Options dialog, adjust the Playback Speed slider to 2x.
  • You can also enter the value manually by typing 2 in the Playback Speed field.
  • Click OK to apply the changes.

Alternatively, you can also use the Quick Access menu to adjust the playback speed. To do this:

  • Press the Q key to toggle the Quick Access menu.

Flexbox-like system

Hi everyone,

i'm new to Cinema 4D and have been trying and failling to set up a system like Flexbox for web. I've got 4 objects in a 2x2 grid, all the same geometry but different rotation, and would like to change the size in length and width so that the other 3 objects in turn get bigger/smaller, but the overall bounding box of all 4 objects stays the same.

Does anyone have an idea how i could go about it ? (If XPresso, please a detailed description or a link to a tutorial (have looked through all of youtube though, couldn't find anything) would be great).

How to Mirror Animation Keyframes?

I know how I can copy/paste key frames and move them around, but I want to know how to MIRROR key frames about a point in time on the time frame, time bar thing.

The pic is showing just a simple idea of selecting some key frames (all that the same key frame time) and wanting to mirror them about a random, or specific, center line, CL. But, I'd like to be able to do this with 10s or hundreds of key frames, all at different key frame times. So, you see why copy pasting and flipping and moving them around would be super tedious. I'd like to select the 10s to 100s on the early side of time and MIRROR them to the later side of time.

Gotta get this done.

Side menu on Octane node editor has disappeared

Usually I can adjust the settings on the right

Downloaded a new version of C4D and for some reason when I click on a node in the octane node editor there isn't a side menu that pops out where I can adjust the settings of the nodes? Tried searching online but couldn't find any solutions to this.

error loading assets

hey, guys!

Im quite new to cinema4d, so maybe someone here could help me to fix an issue i faced with.

Mac im working on couldn't even open latest cinema4d version (2025.1.0), so i decided to download older version 2024.5.1 and here's an issue - when i try to add any shader node it says "error loading asset: could't open a file. file:///Users/fixed/Library/Preferences/Maxon/_assets/user.db/com.redshift3d.redshift4c4d.nodes.core.maxonnoise/net.maxon.asset.usage.meta'

i found an article on maxon, tried to do that but either i did sth wrong or it's simply didnt work out. any ideas how to fix that?

Node material input from tag or objects user data?

Is it possible to send user data (in this case a time field eg 13F), from an object or objects material tag, to a node material? How!

I want to change the Time Offset attribute of a texture with user data from the object onto wich that material is applied. So I can have lots of objects with different time offsets, from just one material?

How to trace progressive rows of clones?

i want to create a set of lines that get progressively curvier but taper back to being parallel at the bottom. to do this, my plan was to create a cloner of cubes vertically, then a cloner of those cloners with a basic effector on it, with a couple of fields to position them how i want. that worked. but then i wanted to trace each line, and i can only get the tracer to target the first cloner, not any of the other clones of that cloner.

i also tried it with a grid of clones, which worked except the tracer makes one continuous line, resulting in a zigzag.

how can i draw these procedural lines that bow away from the first, while coming to be parallel at the end?

Rendering the Glow of a Lights to an Alpha channel in a PSD?

So my wee Spaceship engines have a Glow made from Lights.

The rendered Alpha Channel in the resulting PSD does not include this Light glow.

Is it possible to capture that as an Alpha? by changing some C4D Render settings?

This is just using in-built rendering in r21.

R21 Layout in 2025 Version

I have worked with R21 since release now and just got the trial of the newest version. I'm pretty much overwhelmed with the additional features, menus etc, – which was expected. But what is putting me off a lot is the different placement of icon and bars.

In the new version there is a legacy feature or "Old Layouts" which visually does what I need. But when using "old layout" all the new functions are missing in the menu (see screenshot). I never had the need to customize the UI a lot, so I have no Idea what is possible and how I can customize.

Any suggestions? Or is it possible to have the legacy layout with the extended menus?

Rotate Group of Objects around Center

I have these three groups of objects. When they are in the center, their combined centroid at 0,0,0, they rotate around that centroid. When I translate them out from their 0,0,0 position, outwards, they each get their own centroid and from then on, they only rotate around that one.

(See in the image they all rotate around their individual centroids.) How do I get them to all rotate around the 0,0,0 axis (their original centroid/axis) together 360 degrees? In Rhino 3d that would be the centroid of the objects combined and I could choose that center. I have no idea how to do this in C4D 2025.

Time Track / Slow Motion issue

Hello you,

I got a scene with multiple objects animated with keyframes, no simulations. I want to slow time and even freeze time at a certain point. If I use a time track it always destroys my animation.

I would like to "precomp" my whole scene like in aftereffects or kind of "bake" everything although it's no simulation. And than time remap like in aftereffects. Any ideas?
