Looking for tutorial/what effect would even be called, if possible.

Ahoy,

Is there a name/tutorial for when a character "pulls" down a scene and it rolls up behind them like a projector screen? Think Looney Tunes type gag.

Ex: Open field of flowers - character walks into foreground - reaches down, pulls string down, open field of flowers rolls up all crazy, leaving just the character in front of black background.

how to put images together into a video?

I had to render an animation in blender as png and now i need to put the images together into a video in aftereffects. first time working in aftereffects and when i put the rendered images in the program the images dont go in order and they all play for the whole duration of the video so i can only see one image for the whole 30 seconds if you get what im saying (the image i uploaded).

how do i make them go in order?

ps: pls dont ask why i do something i cant do cuz this is what my school told me to do for seminar work even tho we have never ever touched that program at school.

Rotoscoping specific sections of videos to make exporting faster?

Hello! I have like 10 videos that are aligned in length where a person is only on screen for a small period of time. I'm trying to rotoscope them out but when I export, the brush is propagating like 4000 (frames?) and then rendering causes it to propagate another 2600 (frames? or mask markers? not sure). I also might not be using compositions right, I'm not totally sure πŸ˜…

How can I curate the section where the rotoscope should be active to cut down on export times? Thank you :)

Placing images on footage

I'm having trouble getting images to look like they are part of the scene.

I motion track the footage one way or another (Mocha, 3D Camera Tracker, tracking motion) and I generally get a sticky enough track, but that actual image doesn't quite look like it's actually there, it's too shiny or vibrant etc. I end up going out of my way to place the image somewhere where somebody is walking by and roto'ing them out just to sell the effect more.

I don't have a current example to share, but if somebody out there could share their thoughts/procedure that would be amazing.

Thanks in advance for the help!

M1 Max, 32GB RAM, Can't find 'Advanced 3D' in latest AE

As described. I have the classic only and can't see the option for 'Advanced' anywhere. I have tried multiple .glb files and it just says they aren't supported.

Going crazy - my timeline stopped playing smoothly! Help!

Hi all!

To cut to the chase, I had issues with my AE earlier this week and googled some fixes. My original problem is fixed now but I think I twiddled something and messed up how my timeline plays back my work.

It plays jittery - as if it’s buffering, but I can see the green line so I know it’s not. It’s almost like it’s on 5fps. it’s across all project files not just one, and it’s even happening on an empty project with a single animation so I know it’s not an issue with the project size or effects used.

Here is what I’ve checked:

Frame rate: 30fps No posterise time added (I checked my expressions too) Preview: Full but still happens at half or third Motion blur: Off Caps lock is off Memory usage is fine

no warning messages or anything pop up. It’s driving me crazy!

has anyone got any idea what i could’ve done?

if it helps, the settings i was fiddling with were to do with preview as my preview window was just showing black (this is fixed now)

Trying to use photoshop generative fill to fix a shot for a corporate meeting video

Here's the video our employee shot (after not only being told to film it "selfie" style and getting a sample video shot vertically πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ)

This is what https://imgur.com/fHh3mYn. Looks dead on but when I import it to AE I'm having a sizing issue and I can't seem to get the masks to work. Can someone help me with this next step? I haven't with AE in a long time and I'd love to impress the bosses.

Mocha AE - Layer Export resulting in blurry tracked graphic

Hi community. This is my first time using Mocha AE and I followed the steps as per this video, but when I use export options via corner pin (support motion blur), and select a pre-comp of an Illustrator file for the phone screen as the layer to export to, I'm getting a blurry image. When I try to continuously rasterize the Ai file on the precomp, the layer doesn't pin correctly with the track. I've tried converting the Ai file to a PSD and a PNG but I'm getting the same blurry affect.

I've made sure the pre-comp of the phone screen layer is the same comp size as the footage, and I've scaled it to the comp size (transform > fit to comp).

As a second question, once I get the phone screen layer resolution working correctly, what general steps do you recommend in order to blend the phone screen more with the phone in the footage? I'm using a white bg with black markers in the footage (no greenscreen on the phone.)

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

What are the most essential must-know expressions?

Hello AE community,
Next week I will be starting a new position and I will heavily get trained on coding inside AE. My experience as a video editor has usually been with Premiere mostly and basic AE.

Therefore I was wondering if you could give me some advice and essential must-know expressions or techniques (focused on Javascript) so I can prepare a bit before hand.

Any advice is welcome! Thanks for letting me post here.

Looks like Unreal Engine is close to becoming a viable alternative to After Effects. Has anyone in here made the switch?

How would I create this effect?

Hey does anyone know how to make this effect, but with a singular line drawing connecting the different sketches?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9hoXimnLlI

I want to create something similar but have only one continuous line that interacts with the sketches before going onto the next, with the camera tracking the front edge of the sketch, so that the line always stays in the centre of the comp.

I've been thinking of doing it by creating the composition in illustrator and creating one big artboard that is 4x the size of what the camera frame will be in ae. Then drawing the line in illustrator, bringing it all into ae and adding trim paths.

The problem I'm having is with getting the camera to track the front of the line, I know you can do this with a null object by copying the path, but It doesn't seem to work or line up because the illustrator artboards that I'm using are larger then the composition size.

How can I duplicate a precomp that has been transformed

So I'm hoping not to have to build the precomp again, but I know that's an option.

Anyway, I have a "step and repeat" background in my project. I had built it and then had to change the size of my main comp. So I resized my precomp. But I have to duplicate it a few times (and change some of the elements) but when I duplicate it I can only duplicate the original size and can't get it to resize right for some reason.

Any help would be much appreciated

laptop recs

i'm considering buying a new laptop for After Effects as my current one is running low on storage and sometimes render crashes due to insufficient memory and disk cache. i currently use a 2020 HP 14" with 256gb and 8gb ram.

I only use after effects to make instagram and tiktok edits so i don't necessarily need the best specs but im looking to upgrade from 8GB RAM to 16GB RAM to increase playback/render speed.

I also need at least 500GB of storage as i download a lot of movie/tv show clips and scenes.

One laptop in particular that i've been looking at is the macbook pro 2019, 16gb ram, 1TB, AMD Radeon PRO, but im not sure if its worth 1000€ as it is a 2019 model

I'm not good with laptops πŸ˜… using them is easy but choosing one is near impossible 😭 i have a budget of 1000€ if anyone has any better suggestions lmk, thanks!
