if anyone is out trick or treating, us on 19th street by carpenter have a lot of candy :)
I'm new to the neighborhood and enjoy taking walks in the alleys sometimes. Perhaps it's common knowledge, but I've stumbled across a couple of these hidden Virgin Marys.
Seen some free books and looks like two walkers over by 1752 w 21st place, right off of 21st and wood.
Update: looks like the people in the car fled the scene, CPD called me today asking if I could provide any more information. The cyclist isn’t doing well. I feel terrible for leaving 😣
I got in touch with my Uber driver and he said he remembered two guys getting out of the car, dressed kind of flashy, maybe a blue jacket. If anyone has any more info, maybe like security camera footage or something like that please reach out. This was somewhere between 3:30-4am October 27th.

Hey everyone, this morning (close to 4am) while I was ubering home we witnessed a cyclist get hit at Union and 19th. Initially the cyclist almost swerved into our car, but my driver quickly jerked us out of the way and we turned onto 19th. Right after that the car that had been in front of us on Union hit the biker. It looked bad, I didn’t actually see it happen myself, but my driver said he saw the cyclist flew over the handlebars and somersaulted, the car’s airbags went off and the guy was just laying in the street. I saw someone get out of the car that hit him, so I think at least they were ok… we pulled over on 19th (they were just south of us on union), I called 911 to report the accident and told them I thought they needed an ambulance, they said they were sending someone… we stuck around for a few minutes, but decided there wasn’t anything else we could do and left after we knew the ambulance was coming.
Anyway I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about it, if the cyclist is ok. I feel bad now for leaving, but I don’t know how sticking around would have helped, especially because I really couldn’t tell who was at fault so it’s not like I could help as a witness in that way. I don’t know if we did the right thing, I know ambulances are so expensive, but the guy was not getting up from the road so I feel like he really needed medical attention 😣 I just hope everyone is alright, I didn’t catch if the biker was wearing a helmet…
Be careful riding and driving out there folks, especially if you’ve been drinking or partaking in any other party favors. Have a safe week — I’m sure we’ll be having a lot of celebrating around the neighborhood.
Hi Neighbors. Does anyone else in the East Pilsen area experience delayed USPS packages? This is the 3rd or 4th time that USPS says my package was "delivered" but I haven't seen it yet. Fortunately, the first 3 times the delay was 1-2 days (i.e. tracking said "delivered" on the 10th but I didn't see the package in my mailroom until the 12th).
Does this happen to anyone else?
This time my USPS package says "delivered" on the 19th but 5 days later and I'm still waiting for it...I'm really concerned it was lost or stolen.
I’ve been seeing art around Pilsen including this 8-ball in the design. There are other designs out up at La Vaca and Benny’s Pizza and all across Pilsen that include versions of this 8-ball in them. Anyone know what it is for?
I’m looking for some suggestions on where I could volunteer. It has to be a non profit.
I’ve thought of the obvious like churches and fundraisers but am looking for more suggestions. Anything and everything is welcomed id just like my time to be used towards something I choose.
Hello there! My partner and I (early 30s, DINKs) are moving to this area from the Loop. We have a passing familiarity with Pilsen, but I’d be grateful to have your inside scoop. Anything to look out for, or conversely, seek out?
I’m eager to explore local haunts. What are your favorite venues here? We’d like to meet people and make new friends, building community where/how we can. What places are the best to go for groceries, cafes, and dining out? What’re your favorite things to do that don’t break the bank or are free?
Thanks in advance and looking forward to becoming your neighbor!
Wow, I have joined to this sub because I think it was about my hometown Pilsen (the original Pilsen or Plzeň in Czech Republic) …but it’s not
Well, I will stay and see what’s going on with you
Does anyone have more information about the search warrant and SWAT team that showed up at 2000 s Desplaines st last night? They knocked down the door and told everyone to stay in their houses. I think they also threw flash bangs too- it was wild.
The expansion of the Pilsen Industrial TIF has been deferred a 2nd time, and it won't be discussed at the Committee on Finance hearing this Wednesday, October 2nd.
(The expansion is not on the COF's agenda for the October 2nd hearing.)

Here is a link [see first link] to a Facebook post by the Pilsen Alliance, with a link to help you write a letter to Alderman Byron Sigcho Lopez and the members of the Chicago City Council's Committee on Finance.
Correction on the date of written public testimony deadline. The deadline for public testimony written to the members of the Committee on Finance is October 1st, at 12 pm, noon. Committee of Finance's staff email address is Committeeonfinance@cityofchicago.org. [See 2nd link.}
The next Committee on Finance hearing will be October 2nd, at 10 am, which will consider the Pilsen Industrial TIF expansion. It will take place at City Hall's Council Chamber, on the 2nd floor. If you wish to appear in person, please arrive by 9 am.
(I decided to send a second letter, given this is the second committee hearing on the subject.)
Pedro Martinez lived in Pilsen, & he graduated from Benito Juárez High School, in the Class of 1987. I hope he has a nice Thursday.
I don’t know what the TIF voting was for if we never got the results. Byron just said “well, it’s obvious that people don’t understand it.” Someone should call our saviors from the 25th Ward IPO so they can explain it to us stupid longtime residents because apparently that’s the only reason we would be opposed to it.
What’s happening tomorrow 9/21 that has no parking signs up on huge stretches of the neighborhood?
Gonna buy a coffee and see what's up
I've been looking at places in Pilsen recently. Budget is $1800/month.
I've seen some really cool loft/industrial-looking places online, but when I go to street view, it just looks like I'm in the middle of no where. I'm wondering if there are boundaries within Pilsen where I can be near a more active street, a short bike ride from a grocery store, and reasonably close to the pink line. Something like "east of Western, south of 16th, west of Racine, north of 21st."
Not saying that I've heard those streets mentioned as boundaries, just giving them as an example. I don't want to visit a sick-look spot only to find that I'd be a 30-minute walk from everything. Thanks!
I’ve just moved to Pilsen and am also a runner. That being said I’ve only been running around Harrison park because it’s the closest I can get to a track/place with little interruption. Any runners have any recs on good routes/areas/streets to run on to avoid stopping all the time? I love Harrison but it can be repetitive lol
The Committee of Finance will hear from public comment and Department staff on Ald. Byron Sigcho Lopez's proposal to expand the current Pilsen Industrial TIF to include all or most of the residential areas of the Pilsen Community Area.
The committee hearing starts at 10:00 am, in City Hall's Council Chambers [121 N La Salle St, 2nd floor], so it's best to show up by 9:00 am.
The Pilsen Alliance is meeting at their office at 8 am, and walking to the Pink Line train with folks who will be attending. If you want to go downtown with the Pilsen Alliance folks, send me a message & I'll forward the link to their RSVP.
Hello! I am writing an essay and can not for the life of me find the word for the part of some homes that is almost underground? I'm not sure if I'm describing it well but the closest I've found is that the houses themselves are called sunken homes. Personally, I've always called it a ditch, but I'm 99% certain that is not the correct word. I am just looking for the word that describes the actual area that's lowered. Not the house and not the stairs or supports. Thank you!
If I'm not describing it well and you need further clarification please let me know!
