Search warrant in Pilsen 10/2/24

Does anyone have more information about the search warrant and SWAT team that showed up at 2000 s Desplaines st last night? They knocked down the door and told everyone to stay in their houses. I think they also threw flash bangs too- it was wild.

Write a letter to Ald. Sigcho Lopez & the Finance Committee asking them to vote No on the Pilsen Industrial TIF expansion

Here is a link [see first link] to a Facebook post by the Pilsen Alliance, with a link to help you write a letter to Alderman Byron Sigcho Lopez and the members of the Chicago City Council's Committee on Finance.

Correction on the date of written public testimony deadline. The deadline for public testimony written to the members of the Committee on Finance is October 1st, at 12 pm, noon. Committee of Finance's staff email address is Committeeonfinance@cityofchicago.org. [See 2nd link.}

The next Committee on Finance hearing will be October 2nd, at 10 am, which will consider the Pilsen Industrial TIF expansion. It will take place at City Hall's Council Chamber, on the 2nd floor. If you wish to appear in person, please arrive by 9 am.

(I decided to send a second letter, given this is the second committee hearing on the subject.)

No pues.. esta cabron

I don’t know what the TIF voting was for if we never got the results. Byron just said “well, it’s obvious that people don’t understand it.” Someone should call our saviors from the 25th Ward IPO so they can explain it to us stupid longtime residents because apparently that’s the only reason we would be opposed to it.

No parking signs across huge swaths of Pilsen

What’s happening tomorrow 9/21 that has no parking signs up on huge stretches of the neighborhood?

Where to move in Pilsen w/o car?

I've been looking at places in Pilsen recently. Budget is $1800/month.

I've seen some really cool loft/industrial-looking places online, but when I go to street view, it just looks like I'm in the middle of no where. I'm wondering if there are boundaries within Pilsen where I can be near a more active street, a short bike ride from a grocery store, and reasonably close to the pink line. Something like "east of Western, south of 16th, west of Racine, north of 21st."

Not saying that I've heard those streets mentioned as boundaries, just giving them as an example. I don't want to visit a sick-look spot only to find that I'd be a 30-minute walk from everything. Thanks!

Running

I’ve just moved to Pilsen and am also a runner. That being said I’ve only been running around Harrison park because it’s the closest I can get to a track/place with little interruption. Any runners have any recs on good routes/areas/streets to run on to avoid stopping all the time? I love Harrison but it can be repetitive lol

Name for the below ground parts of some homes in Pilsen?

Hello! I am writing an essay and can not for the life of me find the word for the part of some homes that is almost underground? I'm not sure if I'm describing it well but the closest I've found is that the houses themselves are called sunken homes. Personally, I've always called it a ditch, but I'm 99% certain that is not the correct word. I am just looking for the word that describes the actual area that's lowered. Not the house and not the stairs or supports. Thank you!

If I'm not describing it well and you need further clarification please let me know!

For folks who live in or near Pilsen, sign up to help Pilsen Alliance with their efforts against the TIF expansion, & vote through the online ballot

At the "Listening Session" (that will be used to spread a message to support the Pilsen Industrial TIF expansion, because the alderman is not a neutral party, he is the originator and proponent), connect with the nonprofit the Pilsen Alliance to assist them in their efforts against the Pilsen Industrial TIF proposed expansion.

Also, vote in an online ballot if you live in Pilsen, through the link below, against the expansion. This is another method that the alderman has created to show the support for his expansion proposal. Please vote against the expansion and share it with your friends, your family members, and neighbors who live in Pilsen, to have them vote against the expansion, too. Thanks.

Next week, on September 16th, there will be a Finance Committee meeting at 10 am in City Hall to discuss this issue of the Pilsen Industrial TIF expansion, and perhaps a vote on the expansion. The information for the meeting is in the second link. Written public comment will be accepted by the committee staff by email (Committeeonfinance@cityofchicago.org) until Friday, September 13th, at 1:00 pm.

Houses or apartments?

Hey guys!

I had a question. Does Pilsen only have apartments/multi-household homes, or are there actual houses in the area?

Where to walk dog early

Is there a location around the neighborhood where I can walk my dog really early without feeling like I’m the only one? I didn’t notice the amount of difference little Italy is compared to Pilsen when touring apartments until I moved in and started doing my daily routine. There’s a few areas in little Italy where I can walk my dog really early in the morning and also see other people doing the same so I feel safer. When I walk my dog at my new location, there’s no one except the house less and creeps which makes it harder for me to even walk her because there’s no one else around doing the same. I got followed a few days ago when I was walking with my dog at night. Again, my daily routine from when I lived in little Italy. Now, I had to stop it automatically. It’s going to get darker and I don’t think I will last two years here which sucks bc the place is cheap af.

Pilsen’s Solis family patriarch on Tribune’s list of officials who helped build Chicago’s culture of corruption.

The Tribune’s “Culture of Corruption” series was released today. We Pilsen residents know how detrimental the old school IL culture of corruption has been to our neighborhood and families. This is due in large part to Danny Solis’ familia, which includes blood relatives, business partners, and friends; many of whom have ties to the SW and SE sides. We all need to do our part to change the lawless culture for which we are known. Start by avoiding Solis family-operated businesses and nonprofit events including Día de los Niños and UNO’s Carrera de los Muertos. The Carrera, which is directed by Danny’s oldest daughter and was created by their political friends, is set to take place again this fall. Let us not buy into their grassroots corruption.

Any hikers/ backpacking women in Pilsen?

I (36F) am getting really into hiking and trying to uplevel my backpacking as well. My husband and friends aren't quite as enthusiastic as I am about the outdoors. Recently hiked the full Lake Geneva Loop in a day and then camped and I did a weekend backpacking boot camp through REI where I learned a lot. I'd say I'm an experienced day hiker and beginning backpacker. Long shot but wondering if there are other women in the area who are looking forward to some fall day hikes who would want to meet up for coffee and plan a hike?
