Solo female traveler visiting Chicago for the very first time next month. How safe is walking between The Loop and River North at night?
For example, if I attend a game at the United Center, is it safe for me to take the bus to The Loop, and then walk alone back to River North?
I’m planning on using public transit (especially buses), and mapping out some routes would have me switching buses walking a few blocks to the next stop.
Looking for somewhere that sells fresh baked bread—not as a restaurant but maybe a deli? (I’m aware of Publican and would prefer to find a different option). Thanks!
Does anyone know of any jobs that they might hire for a day? I know not anyone will want anyone for a day, but as a college student taking a little over 20 credit hours, there's not much wiggle room on my end. I have a part-time job that I work on weekends. I could work Tuesday and Thursdays after six till night, and on Fridays, I'm open all day. I've looked into Doordash, but it seems like I'll be wasting more on gas than what I'll be earning. any recommendations would help.
Looking for food groups to sell Sushi but can’t find much around or not sure if I’m searching them up wrong Do y’all have any recommendations on groups or how can I get the word out? Thank you
This is a very specific question but hoping one someone has an answer to.
My toddler is obsessed with airplanes and helicopters. I’m curious if there are any airports big or small that have viewing areas outside the property to watch them take off.
We have a rooftop in the city where we can see them fly by very often, but looking for a more exciting experience.
Toddler also is in love with construction equipment so if there’s any suggestions around that I’d happily take those too.
Im moving to chicago from Michigan hopefully by the end of this month. I am looking to see if anyone has advice on where to look for jobs other than indeed/linkedin. Im a female in my mid 20's with background in graphic design/ e-commerce. Im willing to work a service/retail job just to get back on my feet but I find them hard to find online.
Is it going to be insanely busy? I didn’t know if Black Friday frenzy was usually kept to shopping malls. I have family that wants to hit the area and I typically stay in so wasn’t sure.
For the longest time i’ve looked into getting a self-defense tool for myself, but i can’t get a super straight answer as to what i can legally carry on my (without any permits needed). Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I’ve had lots of success with OfferUp in Chicago up until their merger with LetGo. Now that app is flooded with ads and fake listings, so buyers are few and far between. Any recommendations for marketplaces if I don’t want to sign up for Facebook? Is craigslist still pretty good?
My husband and I love Chicago and would like to spend more time there when we retire but also have a place to start putting down roots while our children are younger. We have been to the downtown area but don’t know the areas well outside of downtown. We ideally would find a cottage on the lake that we could get to Chicago proper easily but not so close that the prices are crazy. Maybe 400k price? Does it exist?
I currently live in a condo (2nd floor with neighbors above and below me) and the upstairs are super heavy footed with a 2 year old. Downstairs has several vocal dogs. The building I'm in was built in 2005.
My sleep for the last few years has been so poor because I feel like I hear everything happening in our building. I wake up when the toddler cries, when my neighbors are stomping around chasing their kid, or the dogs hear something outside. I'm going nuts!!
I'm looking to move next year because of this but don't want to end up in the same situation. Do you have any tips on finding a place that doesn't sound like I'm practically living with your neighbors?
Single family homes in my neighborhood are over 1.5m are out of my budget so will likely be a condo or if I'm lucky to find a townhome.
Does anyone know if they screen doctors, nurses, techs, students with direct patient care for thc?
When I say thrift store I am NOT talking about curated vintage sales in Pilsen where I buy a pair of pants I had in 2006 for $90!! Where is a good secondhand/thrift/odds and ends shop where I can find stuff like yarn, random household junk, sewing supplies….etc. Looking for what some people would consider a nightmare graveyard of other people’s discarded belongings. I love upcycling and I love a great deal that creates minimal waste even more. Please ratty thrift/second hand shop recs for Chicago!!!
Hi y’all! I’m here for the day and i really want to see the bean, but I’ll have my small carry on and a backpack with me. I was planning to go before noon, is it allowed to bring luggage? and is it safe? Thanks!
Update: I was def overthinking it lol. I left my carry on at union station and walked but could have just taken it. The bean was as magical as I imagined it. Thanks!!
I'm looking at getting a Civic SI, which is a manual-only car, I asked if I could test drive and multiple dealerships have said no since I'm inexperienced. I've only ever driven a manual in video games (Logitech wheel and shifter) and the "manual mode" on my mom's automatic car. I've looked at taking classes and they all float around $200 for 2 hours, if anyone was willing to let me practice on their car for 1-2 hours for like $100-$150 I would be eternally grateful. Or if you guys have any other suggestions I'm all ears. I live on the south side but I'm more than willing to travel. Thx
I’m bringing my daughter to the American Girl store from Indy and staying for one night. I’m looking for a hotel that is clean, decently priced, and safe that is close to Water Tower Place. The reviews online are all over the place, so it’s hard to tell which hotels are actually good. Thank you!
Every lane is closed leaving downtown.
I've decided that for my birthday I'm going to take myself to King Spa. I'm just a little nervous as its a little far from home and I've never been to a spa especially one as seemingly extensive as this. I'd really just love to hear step by step some people's experiences. ALSO: Major question, maybe silly- can I bring a water bottle into most rooms I go? I have a health condition that's made worse by heat but plenty of water remedies most symptoms, however it makes me anxious about my access to a lot of water when going to new spots.

I know this is ancient history at this point, but the thought occurred to me that Paulina and Southport are weird stops on the Brown line when compared to the traffic of Ashland. Is there an explanation for why they built stops like this? Was it just a matter of distance between the stops and adjacent Belmont / Addison?
Do you go out every weekend? Do you stay in?
I visited New York for the first time for 2 weeks and every weekend it was going out time I grew tired.
I was very active in the club scene in my early 20s now I just like going out got a drink once in a while and staying home.
Really focusing on my fitness and mental health.
Can’t help but think but sometimes it does give me fomo.
So what do you guys do?
New to the Chicago area and we found a rental by a company called “Local by Laramar”. The apartment rental is south of Andersonville/Boniface Cemetery.
Any one here have experience with the rental company and/or of the area? Not enough reviews available on Google or other review aggregators. Looking for any reviews pertaining to quality of rental company and the locality. Appreciate your help, thanks in advance!
Why does American beef/goat feel tasteless? Like chewing tasteless fibres...
After having beef/mutton in other countries, beef/mutton in the US feels tasteless. Why do you think American meat is so tasteless? I've had meat in Europe and it tastes absolutely delicious. Where can I get the EuropeanAsian type in Chicago?
My mind was BLOWN. I didn't have a driver's license, I passed my theoretical and was told I needed to RENT A CAR to take the driving test?
Will car companies even rent out or Turo with just the permit??
Do I even need to take a driving test ?
Pretty new to the Chicago area. I was traveling through Union Station today and noticed many Amish and Mennonite travelers in plain dress (this is a guess based on some online research). Some were wearing beautiful cold weather clothing and there were differences in dress that made me think I was seeing members of different groups. I was just wondering if there is a large gathering or other event that explains the number of travelers?
Edit: I moved here after 25 years in DC and I’ve never seen anything like this taking Amtrak in the NE corridor.
Hi! Looking for a bar with a similar vibe to good night John boy except that you have to wait to get upstairs. Otherwise looking for similar music and dancing vibe! Any recommendations are appreciated!
Hello this is my first time in Chicago and I’m wondering about how I should get around. I’m staying about 30 minutes from downtown and would like to check out all the main attractions there. I have a car but will I be able to find parking? Should I drive to a certain spot and use other transportation methods? Any advice is appreciated.
I am bringing an out-of-state car to be used in the city and parked on the street. Registration, title, license plate, etc. all registered in another state. My driver's license is not Illinois. Is there anything I need to get for it besides the parking permit? Is the vehicle sticker an Illinois specific thing or required in Chicago as well? TYIA
