What should I upgrade in order to best effectively keep my pc from bottlenecks

Hello, I'm thinking of upgrading soon as it's been about 5 years or so that these components have lasted me without any major issues(AIO broke twice and got replaced but nothing else). Anyways; currently I'm working with https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WxNKTY

I'd really like to get a decent bit of future proofing out of whatever upgrade(s) I go for but I don't think I really need a 4090 type situation either.

Most of my pc use goes to gaming, the weekend coding session, or minimal graphical design work but I'd really enjoy getting my monitors worth of fps at 1440 on any and every game I throw at it.

Thanks!

First time PC Building ~1200€ Advice

Hey everyone! First time building a PC here.

I have had the same PC for 10 years and is now feeling old and too slow for me.

I have been trying to build a PC for around 1200€ for the last week. However, I have been finding it difficult as I am not very knowledgeable about AMD parts, which seem to have the best value for the money.

I play mostly Warframe, Valorant, Rocket League and GTA 5, so nothing too crazy needed. However, I also wanted to play them at 1440p if possible.

I don't really need too many RGB, and build would be mainly black

Any advice is welcome :))

Here is how my first attempt is looking:

What’s the best you can do?

If you had an unlimited budget, what would your build be like? Not spending money just for the sake of it, every cent has to have some functional/aesthetic purpose. Comment PCPartPicker lists 👇. I’m really excited to see what you come up with!

Windows server build for hosting webapps and streaming media

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

It will run Windows 2019 server. Don't know a whole lot about docker or virtual machines yet, but I will probably be playing with those on this PC. It will mostly be hosting web apps over the network 24/7, and streaming/transcoding media to up to 5 users through jellyfin. Quality shouldn't ever be above H.265. Like 2180p. Will also host a SQL server and potentially other work things down the road. Its last job will be to run a RAID configuration for attached HDD's and provide the storage to users on the network.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

Hoping to get under $700. This is about the range I am ending up in when looking at used servers, though I think I would also need to put a graphics card in one for jellyfin to run well.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

I could buy as soon as this week for the right deal. Otherwise I can be patient and keep an eye on ebay.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

Everything for the computer to plug in and run, including HDD's. No keyboard, mouse, or display.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

Illinois. I would if it saved me $100 or so.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

The mouse is a logitech usb. Keyboard is some chinese wireless usb thing from amazon. The monitor I'm using is a sceptre that has displayport and hdmi.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

No.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

Storage - I've been hoping to get 8 bays for HDD's. Initially I am thinking 4 6TB HDD's in a RAID 5, and eventually adding more 6TB HDD's down the line. But I would be open to 4 or 6 bays if I was still looking at 24ish TB's of storage, ideally with a little room to grow. Was not planning on getting any SSD's or other drives, but I could be convinced otherwise.

Graphics - This machine will never do any gaming, but it will be transcoding video. From what I've seen, any intel processor with integrated graphics is capable of handling everything I would throw at it. That's probably the way to go, to avoid having to get a dedicated graphics card.

iDRAC or something similar would be cool, since this machine will be controlled remotely as much as I can get away with. It will not be connected to a keyboard and monitor during normal operation.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

It's going in the basement. Don't care how it looks. Not sure how much the case matters when it comes to keeping things clean, but it's a little dusty down there.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

Windows is not included in the budget.

Extra info or particulars:

I think a 2U server idles around 200w. Ideally this PC would be much more efficient than that, but anything less than 200w is still better than a server. It will be going in the basement, so noise is not an issue.

CAD 3,500 - CAD 2,500 Building my 1st Gaming PC (Increased budget - 2nd thread)

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using. Gaming, streaming, and maybe photoshop/graphic design. if the latter 2 push price up too much then just gaming and streaming. Games I play or would like to play: Destiny 2, Diablo 4, Dota 2, Call of Duty, Helldivers 2, Counter Strike 2, Guild Wars 2, - any AAA game that comes out

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes? CAD 3,500 - CAD 2,500

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy. This week.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc) Just Tower and OS. I have the monitor, keyboard and mouse already

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location? Ontario, Canada

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated. Using my Gigabyte M32U 3840x2160 144 Hz IPS monitor with Variable refresh rate (bought it for console but now need to switch to pc due to personal reasons). Also plz advise how to use a previously bought Crucial P5 Plus 1TB PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 6600MB/s. Link to SSD bought

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU? Not right away but in the future I would want to to delay upgrading as far as possible

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc) I want this to be fast, has good storage size (anything more than 1 TB would be good)

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components? Full tower preferably to allow for upgrades/additions as needed in the future - good cooling - theme is black - significant ARGB please - preferably windowed such as the Lian Li O11 dynamic EVO XL black (will be on my right hand side beside the monitor)

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference? can buy later - will start off with free version

Extra info or particulars: Want the build such that it allows me to add / upgrade as needed - lasts 5 - 6 years potentially before I need to upgrade again. I'd like to be able to purchase everything from Canada Computers or Best Buy Canada

Thank you very much for your help in advance!!

Please help, $1400-$1600 PC for gaming

Hello, I'm trying to figure out how to choose the right components for my first PC, but I'm very much a newbie in this matter, so I decided to make this post. I've tried to choose the components, but I'm not really sure if they're good. I started with the Microcenter 7 7800X3D bundle, and I still have to decide on the monitor and case.

1700~ CAD PC build for 3D Modelling student

Hi everyone! Currently my friend is enrolled in a college program that's about game development and 3d modelling. She's looking for a pc that comes out to around 1700~ (tax excluded.)

I built this but I'm not entirely sure. I went with Nvidia because I've heard they have some good features for development. Went with intel for the core count. Let me know your thoughts!

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/wRfX7R

Main programs include Maya and Unreal Engine. Thank you so much!

Is this good for a 1k pc

Main thing I'm concerned over is if I paired my gpu, cpu and ram well and if there are any better components for the same price.

Also not sure how to check if my RAM and cpu cooler fit?

Looking to build my first gaming PC

Hi friends!
I am mildly knowledgeable about computers, but not enough to be confident in part picking. 😅
I do, however, feel pretty confident in building my own. I've taken both mine and my wife's gaming laptops apart to fix some things and actually really enjoy it.

So, I need help picking bits! I am looking to build a pretty decent gaming computer, willing to go up to $1000, possibly a little more if needed, but since my wife is ALSO going to need a new one pretty soon, if I can manage a lower cost for our needs that would be ideal.

We are pretty heavy PC gamers, most of the time we play Steam games such as Deep Rock Galactic, Warframe, Dying Light 1 and 2 and, more recently, Nightingale (among, um, a "few" dozen others...). We'd like to eventually use it with our VR headset as well. So, performance and such are definitely important. We'd also like to be able to stream on them eventually. We are in the United States, and we're already set on peripherals.

Thoughts? Guidance much appreciated in regards to parts or even just what type we should be looking for. I was also wondering if overclocking is something we should consider/look into, or would that be more for someone a bit more tech savvy than I? 😁

Thanks so much!

Looking to build my first PC for trading

Want to either build or buy my first PC but not sure what specs would fit me best. It’ll mostly be used for trading stocks and editing videos but I might also play a bit of video games on it (nothing crazy graphics wise. Probably only black ops 3 zombies).

Right now I just have an old MacBook but I’m mostly just looking for tips or what kind of specs I should be aiming for

PC Build for Titan RTX

I've started working for a new company, that expects me to do VR development using Unity and a Meta Quest Pro. They provided me with a mediocre Laptop and a Titan RTX e-GPU I can connect to the Laptop via thunderbolt. As this is not really sufficient, my plan is to buit the cheapest PC possible around the Titan RTX that is capable enough to do VR development without problems. I'm a noob in the topic of building PCs, so I would be glad if you had any suggestions. I am located in Germany.

AMD CPU/4080 Super build

Hey guys! Getting a new desktop for the first time in more than a decade.

My build via Micro Center:

https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=c7b9f2d4-b9c9-4a55-a349-97e9fcd31b98

This does not include the monitor. I’m considering the XG27AQMR; seems like good bang for the buck.

Budget: $3000, little less maybe Use: gaming Resolution: 1440p

I’ve been out of the PC building game for so long it’s hard to judge my own list. I’ve read many reviews but have little experience, and I consider most reviews to be fairly unreliable due to bias.

Thoughts on my build? Looking to have Micro Center build this either tomorrow or Monday (5-6 May 2024).

Thanks in advance!

Looking to build a solid casual gaming/CAD rig. Comments please!

Hey everybody, I'm looking to replace my current rig would really appreciate some comments on this build I'm contemplating. I built my current rig back in 2015 and I really haven't shopped around for components since then.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/N6BVCd

The price tag is coming it a little higher than I'd like. I built my previous rig back in 2015 for about $1000. But maybe this is just what decent a PC costs in 2024. Or maybe I can get by with lesser components? Or maybe this whole build sucks and you have a better idea? Any comments would be welcome!

Objectives:

  • Budget is around $1200-$1400. The build I posted is like $1800 but I don't know what to cut back on to get the price down.

  • Monitor and other peripherals are taken care of.

  • I do CAD work for my job, using AutoCAD and Revit. It's engineering work, not terribly hardware-intensive.

  • I want to middle-of-the-road gaming capability. Nothing crazy.

  • I want this thing to last me 7-8 years. I'm willing to spend the money on components in order to accomplish that.

  • I like having two hard drives, a big one for media and smaller one for the OS and software installs.

  • My current computer has a Gigabyte motherboard and I really like it, so I want to stick with them for the MB.

  • I'm old school and like having a CD drive, even if I only use it once or twice per year.

  • I want space to get my hands inside of the case and put this thing together easily. My current case is a BitFenix Prodigy M Mini ITX which, while stylish and well made, is a real bitch to work on. All of the components fit but just barely.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

150 pound PC (UK, would mean like 180 to 200 dollars I think?)

Hello. Im in a tough spot with money and would really appreciate some help. I really need this PC, since I want to do game development in either godot or Unreal Engine, but I dont know how to make a PC that cheap. I guess I could buy a 50 pound optiplex and put a gpu in it but Idk how well that works. I was thinking of an optiplex 7020 and put an rx 580 in it, but I want to be able to do some overclocking since this is some older hardware. Should I buy a cheap optiplex, rip out the cpu, ram, hdd and put it in another motherboard that can be used to overclock the parts? Also I might want to put an ssd in there too. Yeah, anyway. RM750e 750 Watt 80 Plus Gold ATX Fully Modular Power Supply - ATX 3.0

AL120 V2 Fluid Dynamic Bearing 120mm Case Fan - 3 Pack White

T120 CPU Air Cooler - Black

870 EVO 2TB SSD 3-bit MLC V-NAND SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5

BarraCuda 8TB 5400 RPM SATA III 6Gb/s 3.5

The cost at my micro center comes out to $2200 Is this build solid did I mess up at all?

Streaming pc

I need a pc purely for streaming on twitch. I’ll be playing from my ps5 so i don’t need it to be able to run games just stream them. I’ve got no clue about pcs really but I was hoping for as close to the £500 mark as possible

Pc to run most modern games at 1080p 60fps at least under 1k

I want to at least be able to run cyberpunk and red dead, my max is 1000$ with shipping included.

I do not have a micro center near me and I already have monitor and keyboard.

Gamer/ student looking for build help!

Looking at a budget of ~$1500 I don’t really care about rgb. Main uses with will world of Warcraft, Path of exile, destiny 2, packet tracer and wireshark!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have been doing some research my self to learn, but figured comparing to other opinions wouldn’t hurt!

Thanks!

no rgb fan header for rgb fans - will they still work?

Purchased a case with fans (Montech Air 903 MAX) and a motherboard (Asrock B650M-HDV/M.2) only to find out that there is no RGB fan header on the motherboard.

My two questions:

  • Do I need the rgb fan header in order to still power the fans as normal?
  • Do I need to purchase an RGB Controller? (I believe the PC comes with one however internet says to buy a separate controller which plugs into USB header etc)

Quite confused, clarification is greatly appreciated.

Psu to gpu and mb question

My psu has 4 slots labelled gpu/PCI’s, my gou requires 3 6+2 connections, and my motherboard can have 2 connections, should I A) use both connections for mb and have one daisy chain for the gpu

B) use only 1 mb connection and 3 separate cables for the gpu

Tarkov PC and other shooters 1200$

Need a PC that can be shipped prebuilt for 1200$ that can run tarkov, wizard101 (yes really but a toaster can do that), monster hunter world, Roblox, sea of thieves, and tabletop sim. I can go a little over 1200$ if it charges for building.
