I’m long overdue for a new computer. My current i7 6700k (slight overclock), Asus Sabertooth z170 MB, 32gb ram, AMD Radeon HD 7950 is getting really long in the tooth these days. Given the issues with Intel 13th and 14th generation, it seems AMD is the route to go right now.
My biggest question is, what route should I go, either the X3D route or the productivity route with the X series?
CPU & GPU - I have a pretty mixed workload thats evolving as I get older. I’m not much of a gamer but want to be able to play some Forza again, maybe a flight simulator or FPS from time to time as time allows. I am pretty big into 3D printing, so fast slicing is important (CPU Dependent), and I’m getting into more 3D modeling and CAD (Fusion360, Blender), nothing too complex but still learning. I am a hobbyist photographer and primarily edit in Lightroom. Looking to upgrade cameras probably in the next year and have 4K video capable camera. I used to make 50 YouTube videos a year or so, mainly product reviews. I have kind of retired from that for the time being but intend to pick it back up at some point but at a lot slower rate. These are generally low-complexity videos, but I want a new build to be able to edit 4k without an issue. I had been using Adobe Premier but have thought about moving to Davinci for cost reasons if my video rate remains lower. The machine will be a Plex server too most likely, but with most of the media stored on a NAS inside the LAN, and then just your general day to day browser, office document type stuff any computer I build can handle. Thinking a midgrange GPU is probably going to be sufficient. It seems like a lot of the productivity apps I use prefer Nvidia cards but will also work on AMD. Looking for a good value option with some future proofing without overkill.
Ram wise I think I want to go more than 32gb, as I use that now with lots of Chrome tabs open along side Fusion. I’ll have to look at the cost of doing this though since it’s not all the time I hit these.
I currently have 2x 1080P IPS screens, and I think I’m ready to upgrade these to at least 2k resolution. I really haven’t done any research into this yet to see what this will cost me and what will have a good color representation for photography. Kind of planning this for Phase 2.
I do want to replace my current SSD storage (Samsung 950 Pro, Samsung 850) almost across the board since what I has been in constant use for probably 8 years + and are quite old. When I built my last system, Samsung was the preferred SSD manufacturer for speed and reliability, not sure what that is now. I also see people talking about more budget SSD’s without DRam, and wondering how big of deal this is now. Looking for a 1TB SSD at least. I currently have have 3 spinners in the system as well so some room in the case for a few of those is important.
Case and Cooling - The computer will be left on most of the time so I want something reasonably quiet, but with good airflow with heat being the enemy of hardware. My current system has a Corsair AIO water cooler which has worked pretty well, apart from the automatic fan ramping never working quite like I wanted. Wondering if something like this is the way to go or what the current state of large air coolers are for modern higher-end processors. Please recommend some good quiet case fans too, LED’s not required.
My computer sits on a side table to the left of my desk now, and the new one will remain there as it just works better with my workflow in the room. This means i’m looking at the back side of the motherboard, so cases with windows never made much sense. Wondering if there are other options i’m not considering if I wanted a window or minimal lights etc? My current case is Phanteks Enthoo Pro which I have had good luck with. It’s big, which has been good since I have traditionally had quite a few hard drives in it. I’m not opposed to reusing my current case and moving the current computer to an older case maybe. Open to suggestions and options here.
The budget for the system itself is flexible. I’m thinking under $2k should be possible after looking at PC Parts Pickers build guide options. I don’t need a $1900 GPU and anticipate saving a decent amount there when looking at some of their high end builds. Looking to have a game plan in place for Black Friday/Cyber Monday to hopefully buy a few things at a discount and finish out the rest.
Im from Australia this will be my first time owning a PC and ive got a budget of $1600-$1700 wondering if anyone can find any decent prebuilt ones, keeping in mind of Black Friday sales.
Just looking for one that can run Triple A games (such as Overwatch 2, RDR2, Apex, Fortnite and Dead by daylight) with no problems
Hi to everyone!
Few years ago (6) i have decided to build my own pc, as most of PC builds were overpriced and not affordable, so after 2 weeks of research (price, compatibility, etc) i managed to find a website (UK) to send me all the components at once (except my screen which was bought from somewhere else, and upgraded later) and i made it whole without any major issues or struggles.
I was and still am happy with my build, it ran smoothly on medium-high most of the old games i play even now days but now, with new arrivals, especially favorite RPG's , i can see it's getting little slow and the age of some components are not getting on the same level with permanently increasing high demands of the newer games, which i have to sacrifice the quality for a steady performance and some of the games are not too enjoyable, as most of the gamers know when New games are released and their PC is 5 to 10 years old.
My pc build was within a low-medium budget (1500$) around 2018 and with the sole purpose to last me 3-5 years until upgrades or totally new one. As my financial status in focused on household and family, i can not jump to state-of-the-art pc builds, neither best on the market. I'm trying to build around my motherboard , upgrading just the GPU and power supply , but any suggestions regarding CPU are welcomed. I do not expect wonders, like extremely good video cards with very low price, or day dreaming about creating the best cheapest thing with zero money invested.
My focus is on new, reliable products, with high customer ratings and good value for money. I usually avoid paid reviews(youtube/tiktok) and trust your opinion(here) 10x more than any of those dodgy ones with millions of subscribers.
Here is my PC build, most important parts of it anyway, and i have to mention that i could have done better with this money at that time, probably, but i'm and amateur gamer with no experience in PC builds, and i didnt' ask for any help back then, or used any pc-build softwares/websites (except some benchmarks for reliability and performance of individual components). Now i'm very confused with so many options and diversity. In a funny way, it will be alot easier for me to just build a new one with all the available tools at the moment, including AI for advice, but i just want to save some money , not because i'm cheap, but more for personal reasons, like having another kid coming very soon.

Please, if anyone can help with these ones, i appreciate and thank you for your time:
GPU: 3-5 video cards you recommend for my mother boards and CPU, no more then 500-600$ which i can filter and choose from until Black Friday arrives. (i have looked for days and i'm really getting more and more confused and frustrated, because i'm not sure what to choose. Hundreds of brands, types , new, old.
My best choice was (and still is) RTX 3070 series but they are so rare and expensive , here in UK (500-900$) despite being little bit old model, but as i said, i'm not sure what to buy , as some new 4080 models are cheaper then 3070's and so on. When i start benchmarks between some favorite GPU;s i want, then the trouble comes, as i;m not sure it will go well with my old motherboard or CPU (bottleneck), as some people do not recommend it .
Regarding my power supply, i have read everywhere that i MUST change it with a really solid 750W if i get a demanding video card like 3070 or something new releases in the past 1-2 years, which makes sense, of course, even thou i'm very happy with it as is one of my BEST SILENT supply's i ever had. Any advice or recommendations are welcomed here as well.
My CPU (with his own cooler) is quite ok and not that bad regarding games i play but i wouldn't want to be in the position of having a great GPU which is not running well with my mediocre Ryzen while better options are available on the market at affordable prices.
Guys! I do not want someone to focus on prices regarding my build, as it can be irrelevant with end of the month BlackFriday possible discounts! I need the best components , not surpassing the maximum amount i'm willing to invest (500-600 punds, euro's or $ for GPU only). I want to check the prices myself on Black Friday, based on your suggestions and pick whatever i can find on sale , but i need some options to choose from.
Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestions, as i know that Reddit community is one of the most dedicated and experienced around the web!

Hey guys, so this is my first venture into the PC world. It’s super exciting as I always wanted to do this. I want to build a PC for gaming and streaming. My budget is between $1400-$2000 but if I can keep it on the lower end of that then that would be great. I found a couple builds as you can see below. Any thoughts and suggestions? Thank you all in advance!
Im a serious gamer and I definitely want to be able to run games at 240hz and max out games like cyberpunk, I'm willing to go upwards of $5000 for a beast of a pc
Planning to build a pc that is focus on performance, thinking of 4060 or 4060 ti or 7600xt or 7700xt
Hi everyone!
I got most of my parts for my first pc build and I can't really settle on a case. I really like the look of the Corsair 5000D and 7000D Airflow cases, but they don't come with a lot of fans. Another case that's been on my mind is the Antec Performance 1 case. Lots of included fans, great filters, but the front panel design is meh.
I have an Asus 4070ti Super Strix and a Noctua NH-D15 cooled.
What case would you recommend for these components that has good airflow, good dust filters on all intakes and nice accessories(at least 3 or 4 fans, ideally a fan hub or something similar)
Thanks!
So I’ve been doing a little bit of research since I’m finally ready to take the jump from console (Xbox) to PC! I’m planning on building my own since I’ve heard it’s a lot cheaper and I’d really appreciate some advice on what parts to grab. I plan on playing mostly destiny 2 , apex legends, and black ops 6. Thanks in advance.
Hello.
I am looking for some help and preferably as much as possible so I am sure I buy something that is reasonably future proof and provides the best performance.
I have this PC right now and still think some parts can be used from it. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cmC7PJ
I mainly play CS2, Warzone, Fifa and other new games coming in the future, so mainly competitive games.
My budget is around 7000 dkk - $990, can go a little over if needed.
Hi all, I got a current PC part list that I’m aiming for, Id like suggestions for the mobo, ram, storage and cooler - i took some choices here that i found were good and went for some cheaper storage.
Im based in Europe and can get this exact build for exactly 980€, so im not looking to cheap out on components like the motherboard, but i dont know myself if the more expensive options are worth my money. Thanks for the help!

Hey ya'll-- long time gamer, first time PC builder coming to the dark side. I Chat GPT'd my way to my first build draft: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GJttJn and scanned the forum, thanks in advance for yalls great insight.
My vision: Primarily gaming like multiplayer Call of Duty as well as open world games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Dark souls. I plan on using a Bluetooth controller for couch play on a 4K capable display and already have a Microsoft license for operating system. My main question is does this build fit my needs as a recreational gamer who is content with superior 1440p graphics, but hoping for 4K quality on most games with reasonable future proofing? I waffled on the GPU between NVDIA RTX 4070 ($799) vs 4060 Ti ($400) with preference of the brands Ray tracing, VRAM and DLSS features. Ultimately, went with the latter for $ savings, but wonder if there are other non-critical areas of my build that are unnecessarily expensive. I also have a few hundred left in budget to invest in GPU. Aesthetics are not important compared to performance/quality. Open to a complete demolition of this build, so get to roasting. Budget applies to components remaining (not including display or operating system).

Hey gang - got some good feedback on my first post and made some updates to my budget casual gaming/home office, and internet machine. This should come out to around $575 from Newegg with sales and $75 off.
Thoughts? Any alternatives that may help cut the cost without sacrificing too much performance?
Thanks in advance!
Hey everyone I've been coasting by on a work issued machine forever now; I'm looking to get a build ready for the release of the new cards (as I don't need a personal machine for personal game dev and games etc. ASAP)
I would really appreciate if someone can give this a look over and lmk and changes etc.
GPU wise I was looking at a 5080.
I'm looking to get components for a budget gamer pc (500-900$). Im playing graphically light games like LOL and Rocket League, but I want to have the option to upgrade the PC in the future to play heavier games. Therefore the hardware ideally should be compatible with modern components. I'm very new to PC building and would appreciate advice on both motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM and storage and on how to proritize my budget.
THANKS <3
Is this decent enough? I feel like i dont know anything about this stuff
$799
I posted this in a different sub and got no responses, so I'm trying here now to avoid being spammy! Sorry, I just would like to get at least one second opinion before I purchase <3
This is already 100 over the budget I have, but honestly I've had to return a 700 dollar pc once already after hours of research AND days of trying to get it to work once it got here LOL, so I really just need something that works!
I've been trying to find a good budget streaming prebuilt pc for a few years, but it seems like everything I find has some huge con that i didnt even know to look for.
these are similar specs to the first one i got, which didnt run any games due to major graphics driver issues, so I'm nervous to puy my money on the line again.
I know when on a budget, getting your own components and building it yourself if best, but I really dont have time or energy to build one myself unfortunately. im a full time college student and I really just miss streaming, it was one of my few hobbies when i still had my macbook.
My standards arent high at all (i used to stream minecraft on my mac at a whopping 15 fps with a 40 dollar mic, and my calls with friends were unintelligible due to lag LMAO)
I just want something that can give semi-decent stream/video quality. i can always buy something better in the future if pursuing this again works out for me!
Lemme know if there are any better suggestions out there, thank you so much to anyone willing to help a girl out lol <3
Hi all,
I would like a PC for primarily two things:
I already have my own keyboard, mouse, monitor, OS, etc. I just need to know the specifications for the tower itself. My budget is about USD 1,500. To keep within the budget, my priority is more for the 3D rendering than the gaming, so if more RAM is better for the former, than I would prioritise that over other metrics.
Secondarily, if things can be fit in a smaller form factor tower, that'd be ideal, but this is a good-to-have, not a must-have.
Apologies if this isn't entirely clear but I don't have the best knowhow to properly articulate my desires. Happy to answer any questions if it lends itself to more clarity.
I am looking upgrade my pc and want to run stable 240 fps in fortnite on performance mode in battle royale I currently have a rtx 3060 8g a i5 13400f 16gb ram at 3600 MHz and I don't know how much watts my psu is and don't know how to check atm since I cant see it from looking into my pc price doesn't matter that much since I have my own job and can save up I am also open to suggestions for parts list(under 2500 USD) for a new pc or prebuilts(also under 2500USD) that can do the same
Hello. 4 years ago you guys helped me build a new PC, parts below.
Ryzen 5 3600 w noctua cooler
BE QUIET - BN238 Modular SFX PSU - 500 W
ASRock Fatal1ty B450 Gaming-ITX/ac AMD Motherboard
PowerColor Radeon RX 5700 XT Red Dragon 8GB
Sabrent NVME
Fractal node case
16gb of RAM, can't remember what exactly
Anyway, I want to upgrade the PC. To be honest, performance is fine, but it gets too hot and I think its because of the small form factor. I'm over the mini ITX thing, but also not a fan of huge PCs, so I guess a normal size?
Focus areas are Mobo and case, then GPU, CPU and PSU. If memory and storage are likely to be bottlenecks I can dig out actual product names also. If I can't upgrade/don't need to upgrade CPU, then I'd prefer a pricier GPU. Normal computer useage and games, want to play new stalker on good settings for example.
Thanks
I’m tryna make a pc that has a fishtankish look on my pc around $350 without a rx580
I usually work on both my laptop and my PC simultaneously, and my laptop is covering the lower half of the desktop monitor, I thought about buying a stand (not an arm) which will be both stable and wide enough for me to push the 100% keyboard below said stand when I'm on my laptop, and I want it's height to be around 15-20cm. Anyone got recommendations that meet these criteria?
i know nothing about pcs and don’t have any peripherals, what parts would be best for playing games (mostly minecraft) and video editing/OBS? I am willing to buy second hand for any parts and don’t care about appearance either. What build would work best for my price range and purpose?
Hey I put together a build and just wanting advice on how it looks. I think I’m pretty locked in on the video card, processor, SSD, and RAM.
Just want to know if the case, cooler, motherboard, and power supply are solid? Or if there are cheaper alternatives with better quality. Thanks!
Gonna be a part of my Setup.
I am fps player and anything related to shooting and fighting. I mainly focus on multiplayer and fast paced and high reflex games. I want good clicking and aim. Medium weight(not too light or heavy around 80grams) and Medium size, i am like half claw and half palm idk and a wrist aimer. Idc about wireless or wired. I also prefer rgb lighting.
Options:
Looking for a PC for mostly games and minor work stuff
Happy running games like fortnite, apex, call of duty (and would love for beamng drive) etc at 60-100 fps on mid settings if that's doable and would like something that will last for about 7-10 years with slow upgrades as needed (estimating every few years or so)
Capping out at 1000$ cad tax included, trying to keep this as open as possible to see what my options are or if I'm being unrealistic for the budget
Located just north of Toronto, Ontario
Here is I have so far https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GLRNGJ I currently have 3 tb of nvme
Also hoping that some of these parts will go on sale because of new stuff coming out
I wanted to build a gaming PC but I am very intimidated by the amount of research and fear that something might go wrong. It might be stupid to post something like this but I want some advise and maybe help to improve or change some things.
The purpose for this PC is content creation, editing (my own videos) and Gaming.

Hello, I've been considering upgrading my CPU as it's become quite outdated. However, my current motherboard limits my options, as it only supports 8th and 9th generation CPUs. I'm looking to replace the motherboard with an affordable option that offers better future upgradeability, along with upgrading the CPU.
I have never built a PC and have only used laptops before. My budget is around $1000, with some wiggle room considering I'd need peripherals. I'm looking to be able to play games like Satisfactory, moderate-level modded Minecraft, maybe Valheim. I would also need a monitor and keyboard (I have a mouse). I don't need anything too fancy and don't like RGB at all, prefer simple black.
I was looking through the premade builds on pcpartpicker and found this which seems to be a good baseline: https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/yhwrxr/modest-amd-gaming-build
Any thoughts on this setup or anything I should change?
Hello,
I have not built a PC since 2018 and am fairly conflicted with my current build + the market at the moment. I am unsure about whether I should upgrade my current setup (New CPU + Cooler, GPU, PSU, more ram) versus investing in a brand new build.
My current build:
Ryzen 7 1700 (Stock Cooler)
Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming MB
2x 16gb Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz DDR4 RAM
1x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB
1x Samsung 980 1TB
EVGA GTX 1660 (Base Model)
EVGA 450W PSU
Corsair Carbide 100R Case
For context, much of my PC time is spent between doing hobby work (Large Ableton Live sessions which are quite CPU-heavy) and also playing some lighter-weight games like League Of Legends and Fortnite. I Built my current build with my budget favoring the CPU, however I do have a 165hz 1440p monitor that I would love to utilize more.
With a budget of approximately $1500 and not needing to buy any peripherals, what would be the best use of my money? Can I get more for my money building AM5 with my full budget than if I was to just get "top-of-the-line" AM4 parts for my current build?
Thanks
edit: added case
Hey everyone! I’m looking to build a new PC and want the best of the best within $2000. I’m asking for the GPU and CPU from my parents for Christmas and then I’m going to buy everything else.
Use case: I want to game in 4K, including specifically Hogwarts Legacy, but also any other AAA game that I might throw at it in the next 5 years. Additionally I foresee myself coding and using my computer for digital design (if I can afford a license in the future) so I want it to be able to compile things fast as well.
GPU: I was looking at the 4070 Ti Super but do I need higher for 4K gaming? Any suggestions here welcome.
CPU: I’m really attracted to the Ryzen 9 9950X but also have considered the 7800X3D, 9800X3D, and 7950X3D. Suggestions here are welcome as well.
Everything else: I’ll probably make another post for asking what other stuff I’ll need once I pick out a CPU and GPU, but 4K monitor suggestions are welcome!!
I really could use some input on cost to performance increase because as long as 4K 60 fps is achievable (preferably 144 fps) and it could handle anything else as far as coding goes (doesn’t have to be the absolute fastest) I’ll be happy.
