Hello everyone! I just started my cosmere journey. My first book was Tress of the emerald sea, after that I researched the cosmere and got acquainted with the reading order (Initially I wanted to start with the stormlight archives). So listening to the reading order I started with mistborn and I need to be honest I am struggling a bit. I am 250 pages in and have the feeling it drags. I don’t know if it’s me or if it’s normal that it’s a bit slower at the start. PLEASE motivate me to keep going, because I am enticed to just drop mistborn and read the way of kings instead.
My girlfriend said she's looking for new podcasts to try. I know she prefers conversation podcasts and I was wondering if anyone has a good example of that in an intentionally blank episode.
She wouldn't be interested in movie discussions or stuff about Brando's books, she hasn't read them or seen a lot of movies.
Hey all, I completed my personal story deck at Dragonsteel Nexus and have been able to put together another complete one (almost two, missing one Lopen Card) that I would like to send to someone in the community.
Full disclosure I don't have extra Heralds 7,8,9 to include but I will include 1-6. Cards will be in the card binder pages but I don't have one of the nifty Lost Tales folios to include. This is also regular story cards only, no non-sense.
Unfortunately I'm also going to have to limit it to folks with a US mailing address.
If you're still interested, please post your favorite otter picture below if you would like to "enter", I will put the username of every otter poster into Excel in the order received and use an rng to select a winner.
Please don't enter if you're going to resell it thx.
At some point he says "Find two ideas, write them with the plot of a movie you love." Can anyone find where he says that in those videos?
I'm not speaking figuratively or in terms of "battle power" or something. What I mean is, exactly how much could a knights radiant in full Shardplate lift? I know there are power scalers that always find ways to estimate this, but I can't seem to find anything about it. They seem to be stronger than pewter-arms, but how much?
I absolutely love this artwork for this card and the fact that it's foil just makes is sooo awesome.
Well...fuck me.
I'm new to Sanderson. I decided to read Warbreaker and ended up binging it and Era 1 just this January.
I have to say, it's pretty much a perfect ending. If the goal was to make me feel shit, job well done.
Secret History this weekend, and then I'm starting Stormlight.
I hope Mistborn Era 2 is as good when I get around to it.
For any stats junkies out there, I have opened my two sealed boxes and 36 extra packs (equivalent to another box) and tracked the contents here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-ZUstIq1QYz6k59uOyNaA2MBzlvh4_oWz6fi2qlfvc4/edit?usp=sharing
Currently the "Jeff1" and "Jeff2" tabs show my two boxes and the "36xPacks" tab is as you would guess - the results from the 12 3-Packs that I ordered separately.
I have four other friends that each ordered two boxes and I'll add their results once they get delivered.
Everything is totaled up on the "Totals" tab.
Each pack has 12 basic cards, and three "Special" slots at the back (i.e. the bottom three cards in each pack). Basic cards 49-54 of each of the three stories can only be found in the final "Special" slot, the very last card, and then it's there 75% of the time (otherwise it can be one of the other "specials").
This makes cards 49-54 exactly half as likely as the other basic cards as each other "run of six" will appear on average 1.5 times per pack (see columns T/U/V). I believe this is a known issue now and was not intentional but chalked up to printer error.
Sometimes the 12 basic cards were the same four sequential card numbers in each of the three stories - so for example 11, 12, 13, 14 (in order) of all three stories. Most of the time the cards came in groupings of 3-4 cards in order. Sometimes the same grouping in the same pack - so multiples of the exact same basic card in the same pack.
Some boxes can have very high variance - notice "Jeff2" is severely lacking in cards 30-36 and excessively many of cards 37-48.
Curiously (and I'm sure it's just a quirk of small sample size), the one basic card I'm missing across all three boxes (Elsecaller #18) was "skipped" over at least twice in packs where I got E-17, 19, 20 but no 18 (one such pack is in the attached photo).
My friends and I have perhaps gone over the top with the project, but we wanted to make sure we could get complete story sets and preserve them well with sleeves and protector sheets.
I know shipping for just about everything has been slow. I ordered 2 boxes of story deck on 1/14. It was later in the work day but still 16 days ago. And I still haven’t gotten a notification that they have shipped.
I just want to know if anyone that ordered 1/15 or later has received theirs. (Delivered or even a shipping notification)
Thanks
Hi y'all!
I've really gotten into BS Brandon Sanderson books in the past few years. I've read all of Mistborn and just finished Oathbringer! I wanted to take a break before starting Rhythm of War to read a one-off BS Sanderson book.
I have been incredibly intrigued by The Frugal Wizard for a long time simply due to such a captivating title. I was itching for a book involving magic, sorcery, a medieval setting, and possibly some lighthearted humor involving a fun, frugal wizard trying to make due.
However, I am 60 pages in and learning that this book is about a futuristic society with high-tech gadgets that lets people buy and conquer alternate dimensions similar to medieval times of Earth. Then, I soon found that the protagonist is a cop.
I was searching for themes of magic, fantasy, possibly nature, and low-tech stuff only to find that this book has themes of colonialism and the main character is a cop.
I feel kind of disinterested at the moment. I know I need to learn to be better at dropping books that don't hold my interest but I reallllllllly do love Sanderson's style of writing and the stories he tells.
So I have to ask -- do you think this book gets better? If so, do the themes of colonialism, high-tech stuff, and a cop protagonist evolve into something more in the vein of what I was looking for?
I am hoping for a spoiler-free discussion but the ability to talk about further details of the book beyond where I am currently at.
**EDIT: Thank you all for the kind advice and information! I have to get back to work now so I won't be replying as much as I was!**
I love the giant hardcover tomes so had to buy them both on release. Even got WaT signed edition! Makes it look silly if I were to put them all upright though, so I like this solution. Inspiration for others I suppose if you are in the same situation.
Growing up I was a fan of reading. My sister... not so much. However that had been something she's been trying to foster a love of in her children.
I've included books in every birthday/Christmas gift I give them. My eldest nibling turned 9 this year which marked a turning point for me. Suddenly she was in the age range to appreciate so many of the books that remember shaping my childhood.
This past Christmas I rushed to the bookstore to get her some of those books. But right next to the nostalgic Lemony Snicket books was Brandon Sanderson's series. I've loved his adult material, how would the children's series compare?
I stood in front of that shelf for 10 minutes debating it. I has already met my Christmas gift quota, if I got her one more book then I'd have to get the other niblings another book too! In the end, I did. A few days ago she called me to tell me how much she enjoyed the book and that she "loved the way the author talked"! The action of reaching out for thanks was something unexpected. Honestly it fills me with so much joy that I plan to read the books so that we can bond over plot discussion.
As an aside. apparently she read the book so quickly that it messed with my sister's system of rewarding book completion with frozen treats!
Dalinar vs. Mat: The Ultimate Showdown - Who Would Win?! Alright, crew, let's settle this once and for all. Dalinar Kholin, the Blackthorn, vs. Mat Cauthon, the Gambler. Three rounds, no holds barred. Who walks away the victor? Round 1: Tactics & Strategy (Towers/Stones) Think of this like a high-stakes tabletop game. We all know Mat's a card shark, but let's pretend he's equally adept at strategy games involving towers/stones (like those used in towers of midnight). Basically, a battle of wits and logistics. My Verdict: Gotta give this one to Dalinar. While Mat's got his luck and tactical mind, but prefes games with luck involved, Dalinar is a proven master strategist with lifetime of experience (even if some of it is from the Thrill). He's literally written the book on warfare. Sorry, Mat, but experience trumps luck in this scenario. Round 2: Battlefield Generalship Equal armies, as balanced as we can make them. Aes Sedai to counter Radiants, Aiel to balance Shardbearers, you get the idea. No nitpicking about unit types, let's focus on the commanders. My Verdict: Mat takes this one, hands down. He's got those old memories flooding his brain, giving him an almost preternatural understanding of tactics and battlefield dynamics. Dalinar is a great leader, sure, but Mat's sheer experience (even if it's borrowed) in this area gives him the edge. He's a natural, even if he doesn't know the terrain beforehand. Round 3: One-on-One Combat The big one. Mat's got his Amulet (surge/weave nullifier) and Ashandarei (Shardblade-proof). Dalinar's rocking Shardplate and Blade, plus his Surges. Mat gets his skills, luck, and memories. Dalinar gets his Shards and Surges. My Verdict: This is the toughest call. I want Mat to win. His luck is legendary, and that Amulet is a huge advantage. Plus, Ashandarei could theoretically parry a Shardblade. However... Shardplate. That stuff is ridiculously OP. Dalinar's Surges are another massive factor. Realistically, I think Dalinar takes it. The raw power of the Shards is just too much to overcome, even with Mat's luck. But hey, stranger things have happened, right? Maybe Mat's luck could pull through. So, what do you guys think? Am I way off base here? Let the debate begin!
Is there anywhere I can read the short stories from the story decks?
A pdf or picture for any would be perfect, I really wanted to get the deck box to read them in person but my husband is unemployed right now so we’re on a no-spend.
Hi everyone, I tried googling this and didn't see anything specifically about the typos in Mistborn era 2. I noticed them periodically in books 1-3, but I'm reading The Lost Metal right now and there are quite a few typos, specifically with the words "what" and "that". For example, in the prologue the book says "That had been Ma's old job what didn't pay well enough" and "You can't take things what don't belong to you" and "Being a bandit is one thing, but everyone knows you take the money what goes toward the city". All of those are just in the prologue and there are more so far in the book. I have a mass edition version and was wondering if anyone noticed this??
Edit: NOT a typo- is just Wayne's dialect. leaving it up in case someone else makes the same mistake I did
I ordered the Mistborn Deckbuilding game two weeks ago but haven't received any update regarding shipping or delivery yet. I submitted a support ticket two days ago and never heard back. Is this standard or are they having problems
Might be a dumb question, but I received my order today and I noticed that only volume 1 one of the set is signed, is that normal or am I missing a signature on Vol 2? Thanks :)
I truly was hoping to read Sanderson and say that the hype was all false, but I am 3 chapters into Mistborn and LOVING it. I cannot wait to read it every single night.
I won't plug this often, but if anyone is interested, I am going to be posting my thoughts on my first read of his work about once a week on this channel. Just posted an hour video of my thoughts on the prologue through the first three chapters. Here it is if you want to listen and watch along: https://youtu.be/GoLQaGL8Ecg
Whenever I read the name Gavilar all I can hear in my head is James Cordon in Gavin & Stacey :-/
This book was a masterclass on character development and was very emotional! I already made a post about all the times I cried during just the first 70% of Oathbringer. I should have known better than to try to read some of the ending in public. There I was crying over Renarin at my daughter’s gymnastics practice. Eh, won’t be the last time.
Big Moments / Reveals:
Small Random Thoughts:
Deeper Thoughts
Renarin
Dalinar & Evi: Gosh, this was hard to read. If you read my last two book reactions, you know that the secret regarding Evi was making me crazy. I was hopeful that Dalinar chose to forget Evi because of how deeply he loved her… but that’s not what I found. It was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. At first I was mad at him, but then I understood that they were very different people who wanted different things. He was obsessed with waging war at the time but she was sweet and kind, and maybe too naive. He could not be the husband she wanted and the Blackthorn at the same time. It was hard to see what an absent father he was though, too. He seriously didn’t even know Renarin’s name?! But, that’s his character arc, right? He did terrible things, suffered tremendous guilt over them, tried to deny his role in it, and in the end, had to accept responsibility for what happened and continue to work to be a better person. I feel bad for Evi though. She deserved better, and even Dalinar knew that at the time.
Kaladin / Adolin / Shallan
Thank goodness the love triangle is resolved!
I am happy to see that both Shallan and Adolin shared their secrets with each other. I was worried it was going to be an issue throughout the series. I was glad they had an honest conversation about Shallan’s feelings for Kaladin also. Kaladin made a good realization, too. It wasn't so much Shallan he loved, it was who he reminded her of - his brother, Tien. I hope Kaladin finds someone… but I’m not sure. He is too busy trying to be a hero to everyone else.
Phew, that's a lot. Thanks for allowing me to process through this journey with you! Off to Dawnshard and then maybe a break. Reading WoK, WoR, Edgedancer, and Oathbringer in less than three weeks is frying my brain... in the best way though!
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my pin collection with you all. I'm a big fan of Sanderson and his work, so I've been collecting pins inspired by his books.
I recently made a modular pin holder so I can keep adding to my collection as he releases more books. I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I think it's a great way to display my pins.
Thanks for taking a look,

I think the Mistborn trilogy traumatize me, because here I am, on the verge of the last third of Warbreaker, and I'm so involved with the characters that I'm really feeling anxiety over the ending. Like..how intense is this sanderlanche is going to be?? Am I ready? When does it start?
Is this a normal feeling for a Sanderson reader?
Hi all, from past experience will I be able to buy The Way of Kings Prime on Dragonsteel store after all backerkit orders are fulfilled? I'm starting to regret not adding it to my pledge!
