Hi all, I'm posting this on behalf of the Secular Bangladesh discord community. We've been working on gathering up and creating an inclusive, safe space for the secularists of Bangladesh.
You are welcome, whether you be leftists, liberals, progressives and minorities.
The server was launched in August, it is around 4 months old.
Majority are atheists and leftists, but religious secularists are more than welcome.
Foreigners may also take part.

Secular Bangladesh | Discords.com
@secularbd.bsky.social on Bluesky
(above are alternate links)
What to expect?
It is primarily a safe space for secularists. It is NOT a server to debate on secularism. That means nearly everyone we have on board aligns with our viewpoints and values.
It is also a safe space for LGBT+/queer Bangladeshis. We do not allow any sort of bigotry on the server.
What's the purpose?
We're trying to expand- gather up the secularists, grow into a larger connected community that can eventually achieve goals both online and offline. We're also trying to plan and establish stronger online presence to counter anti-secularist sentiments that have been rising lately.
Please note that this is not a pro-BAL server. BAL, BNP and Jamaat propaganda will not be tolerated.
If you have any inquiries, leave them in the comments.
ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ বাংলাদেশে স্বাগতম! 🇧🇩
How's your life?
Preferably in English or easy bangla. If it's in difficult bangla, please recommend some good bangla dictionaries, thesaurus and grammar books too.

Hello, with the toppling of Shekh Hasina's tyrannical regime and now Yonus getting support from China. What do you think of the following:
Thanks!
I want to start off by saying that I don’t want this to be where people think I am attacking or anything like that. As a Pakistani living in the west these are things I have noticed growing up with Bengali friends that I feel like are doing damage to the Bengali community and culture. Keep in ming while reading this that I know this is not about every Bengali but it is about a very large group of Bengali people in the west and this is all from things I have seen and heard first hand.
The first thing I want to discuss is Bengali people and Pakistani culture. For example In the west (USA UK Canada Australia) a Bengali wedding is pretty much indistinguishable from a Pakistani wedding, from the music to the bride and groom outfits to the food. Although this is not something that is bad as I love to see our culture being loved by other people it becomes a problem when people say things like:
I cannot deny the atrocities committed by Pakistan to Bangladesh but using that to justify using Pakistani culture is very wrong. On one side you want to talk bad about our country’s past while using that to enjoy our culture. The Bengali people fought hard and sacrificed so much to keep Pakistani influence out of Bangladesh and were very successful in doing so. A wedding in Bangladesh has 0 Pakistani influence and is full of Bengali traditions. Even Bengali migrants stuck living IN Pakistan have make sure to keep their weddings as Bengali as possible and do not incorporate any Pakistani traditions even though they live in Pakistan. It is one this to appreciate a culture and one thing to appropriate.
I understand the idea of unifying South Asia but this is not the right way. The idea of a Desi culture is very wrong. Desi culture is basically Eastern Pakistan/Punjabi and North Indian culture becoming mainstream and being pushed by people on social media and using it as umbrella term for all south asians which undermines the rich history and cultures of South Asia. This idea of Desi culture shadows all south Asian cultures that don’t fit the exact category and force them into adopting it which leaves behind their own culture. This concept is alarming because it is being adopted by so many people and is causing harm to many cultures in South Asia. I cannot deny the similarities between Pakistan and Bangladesh although they are minor, they do exist.
I don’t want to offend anyone although I may already have, but this is something I exclusively hear from Bengali people. They use the fact that they were also Pakistan to justify their point which makes me feel very confused as the main reason for their separation was because they wanted to assert their differences along with the hardships they endured because of being different. People living in Pakistan aren’t the same as each other so saying that Pakistanis and Bengalis are the same just doesn’t make sense. A Pakistani can culturally be closer to a Persian while another will be closer to Indian and another closer to Afghan and another closer to Tibet. The distance Pakistan and Bangladesh is roughly the same as the distance between Pakistan and Iraq. Although we have much more history with Bangladesh I wanted to show how this claim just makes no sense. The main basis for these claims is that we are both Muslim south Asian countries and feel forced to have similarities beyond our religion which are very few.
I have personally seen a few Bengali clothes stores shut down because the local Bengali community was shopping at a Pakistani store and caused their own stores to close. I know at least 5 Bengali people who lie about being Half Pakistani and I know they are lying because I’ve known them for a very long time and have met their parents. When confronted they say things like my ancestors are from Pakistan or you just won’t understand my family’s history. Many of them just wake up and decide to put a Pakistan flag in their instagram bio thinking it will do good for them not knowing how much harm it is actually doing. Many of my own Bengali friends tell me that they never want to marry a Bengali woman and only want to marry a Pakistani woman. This is also with Bengali woman I have noticed that they try to pursue relationships with Pakistanis for marriage. There is obviously nothing wrong with this but when all these point are put together it just looks like Bengalis in the west are very much obsessed with Pakistanis. While comparing Bangla and Urdu with classmate a Bengali friend of mine pointed out that the guy I was comparing with was purposefully picking words and making words sound similar to Urdu just to show that we are both the same people. On August 14 Pakistanis go wild with car rally’s bbqs and other events. The only two ethnicities you will see at these events are Pakistanis and Bengalis. Yes it is fun and there will be a few people from other backgrounds but when so many Bengalis are celebrating Pakistans Independence Day more than their own it is not a good look for them especially when they do nothing for their own Independence Day.
Although it is long this is my summarized perspective on this issue. I don’t mean to offend anyone here but feel free to discuss I would love to see other viewpoints.
Apparently new political parties are poping, and people fairly don't know about them, i myself have very little info on them. I think its a good think besides the Students forming their party, other new parties are forming with new younger faces. I think its a breath of fresh air. What are your thoughts.

On August 29, 2023, Rahmat Ullah from Dhamrai was allegedly abducted by individuals claiming to be members of RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) after he posted against the then-government on Facebook. What followed was a harrowing 16-month ordeal, during which he was reportedly sent to India. Now, after over a year of uncertainty, Rahmat Ullah has finally returned home.
I am aware of the current hate against Mehazabien and I don't particularly have any say on that matter. But it seems like because of that hate I am not getting constructive reviews I hoped to see about this film. I myself haven't watched it but I would like to know if it was any good, like I expected it to be when I first saw the teasers? So, how was it?

Bollywood has always been huge among my friends; whether it’s dramatic love stories, catchy songs, or larger-than-life heroes, there’s something that pulls everyone in. Some of my friends swear by Bollywood movies and even get inspired by its fashion and storytelling. But others argue it creates unrealistic romantic expectations and perpetuates stereotypes about South Asian culture. On the flip side, Bollywood is undeniably influential in showcasing South Asian culture globally.
What do you think? Is Bollywood a source of pride and entertainment, or does it reinforce problematic ideas?
Is there any agents or services that can do birth certificate work locally and ship to USA? The embassy’s here are completely useless.
My company wants me to gather multiple price quotes for the Xiaomi Tv 50-55" model. Can anyone recommend where to find the Best deal?
Hello, I am a huge fan of both these artists, and I discovered their music a year ago. When they collaborated, they created amazing music. It breaks my heart to know they won’t work together again. I can’t help but wonder what went so wrong between them, especially since Arnob seems like such a chill guy, and Sahana does too. I’m not trying to gossip about their personal lives, but my curiosity got the better of me. Why can’t they come together again, even as a music director and singer duo?
So basically I'm asking if buying steam gift card or adding steam wallet money which of the two is more expensive. And what's the difference and by how much
I’m a South Korean and have been living in Dhaka for about a year now.
Honestly, the noise pollution from the private clubs for expats here really bothers me. Every Thursday night, they throw loud parties with pop music blasting in the middle of residential Gulshan, and it goes on until midnight. Seriously, what are they thinking?
I’m pretty sure most of the expats at these parties know that if they tried this back in their home countries, the local police would shut it down immediately. It’s common sense to respect the local community and let people enjoy some peace and quiet at night.
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if these clubs ended up provoking some kind of extream violence or backlash. Playing songs like Sam Smith’s Unholy with full bass, in the middle of an Islamic country’s capital, until midnight? It’s like they’re asking for trouble.

Currently the relations with India has nose dived and the other neighbour Myanmar has got hostile forces aka Arakan Army near the borders. In this scenario Rohingyas will increase in the country and getting any military supplies via land is not possible. In case there is some armed conflict does the armed forces have good military hardware to tackle them?
The suppliers for BD are also not in a good shape ex Turkey is busy in Syria against Kurds, Pak is having internal conflicts and Afghanistan and China after Trump takes office will be under pressure. Even if China (the best among these) tries to send military stuff it has to send via sea route which Indian navy along with West can stop or delay. In such a case how will the armed forces tackle as the airforce doesn't have much and even EU and US would not supply weapons to BD. Russia too will try not to anger India by arming BD so in that scenario what will happen? I don't see any foreign country sending foot on soldiers and thinking that China+Pak will put pressure on India to stop it is also unlikely as Pak is itself weak these days and India and China have started negotiating on the issues. The recent visit of security advisor is also the proof. Share your thoughts!!!!
Hi, I am planning to have my own business with a physical shop in Dinajpur Bangladesh. My current capital is around 30 lacs BDT. I have two plans in my head: one is to open a pharmacy and other one is open a computer hardware shop. Can you please suggest me any other business options within this budget? Thank you.
On the night of December 14, 1971, Mymensingh was liberated from Pakistani occupation. As part of our administrative duties, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and two Assistant Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) continued operations from the District Judge's residence. During this time, S.A. Bari, without informing us, fled Mymensingh with a Bihari superintendent of police and the Pakistani military. Meanwhile, we received news that an Indian Army brigade, accompanied by approximately 300 freedom fighters, was advancing toward Mymensingh city.
Arrangements were made at the Mymensingh Agricultural University sports field to accommodate Indian troops. Officers were stationed at the university's rest house and staff quarters, which also became the Indian brigade headquarters. Although the direct involvement of the Indian military in the Liberation War was undeniable, their presence on liberated Bangladeshi soil was not entirely welcomed by us. Nevertheless, we accepted it as a temporary necessity.
What shocked us was the arrival of P.K. Banerjee, an Indian IAS officer, who summoned our DC to the circuit house, a clear breach of protocol. According to standard procedures, visiting officials should meet the DC at his office or residence. Banerjee, a foreign officer, certainly had no authority to summon our DC. Thankfully, the matter resolved when Banerjee came to the DC's office.
After Dhaka was liberated on December 16, the Secretariat resumed operations the next day. Within a week, the DC was reassigned to Dhaka, and Khurshiduzzaman Chowdhury, a freedom fighter and former sub-divisional officer of Kishoreganj, replaced him in Mymensingh. During this time, reports emerged about undesirable activities by the Indian Army, including allegations that expensive equipment from the Agricultural University laboratory was being transported to India. We witnessed one incident where the Indian brigade commander attempted to smuggle a new Mercedes-Benz intended for the university vice-chancellor. Thanks to Khurshiduzzaman’s firm protests to the Ministry of Home and Foreign Affairs, the car was eventually returned after a few weeks.
Due to our seniority over Khurshiduzzaman, both Foyzur Razzak and I were transferred to Dhaka Secretariat by the end of December. Coincidentally, the Indian IAS officer completed his mission and returned to the Indian Embassy in Dhaka around the same time. Over farewell dinners, we developed a cordial relationship and asked Banerjee why he had been sent to Mymensingh. He disclosed that he had been instructed to oversee administration in a district of liberated East Pakistan.
Banerjee revealed that in Kolkata’s Writers’ Building, 19 IAS officers were briefed by the West Bengal Chief Secretary and a Lieutenant General from the Indian Army. They were designated for emergency administrative duties in case local officials were incapacitated or killed by the Pakistani military. However, after witnessing the operational status and resilience of local administration, Banerjee quickly realized that their assumptions were unfounded. He expressed satisfaction at the active participation of Bangladeshi officials and wished us well as he bid farewell.

Indian media has been trying to flag BNP as an Islamists and anti Hindu party. It's clear that BNP will come to power in the next election.
I am a Muslim. But I'm curious about how Minorities, especially Hindus feel about BNP.
Do you think senior leaders(Fakhrul, Rizvi, Abbas etc) of BNP have hatred(even in speeches) for Hindus?
Do you think Tarique Rahman has anti Hindu or anti minority sentiments?
Have local BNP politicians threatened minorities in your area?
Let us know.
