Punk as in delinquent
I can't do this anymore, I can't keep watching videos of families being displaced, people getting killed or tortured, how did we grow up under this regime? Nobody has even heard of our country, let alone know what is happening right now. Even if the junta fails, then what? What's going to happen with the diaspora? I'm so tired
I assume a large part of people in this group resides in Myanmar, but out of curiosity does anyone live in Europe?
I see a lot of people going in and out recently especially to Bangkok on my Facebook to celebrate the new year.
I live in the US and want to come back for a visit before I graduate from Uni with my mom. We both still hold Burmese Passports and still have all the documents.
How dangerous or how tight is the security to fly in and out?
If not, what would be the process of coming in? (နယ်စပ်?)
Two days ago, my Malaysian friend raised these questions:
Why Burma during the time of Bayinnaung and Alaungpaya doesn't invade the Sultanate of Kedah and put it under Burmese vassalage?
During the fall of Malacca Empire at the hands of Portuguese in 1511,Kedah is freed from Malacca vassalage ( decades ago Malacca took Kedah from the Siam). And there is a power vacuum in the Malay States, as the Portuguese is able to only take the small territory of Malacca, and they are busy to chase the Malacca resistance who run from them like the Persian army run away from Alexander the Great. Why the Burma doesn't send the navy to take advantage to subjugate the whole Malay States especially the Kedah one?
There is a conspiracy theories states that the Kedah and Burma intended to be alliance in 1820. When Siam knows about it, and Siam and British make a plot. Siam attacked and occupied Kedah from 1821-1840s. And years later, British fought against the Burma in 1824 in the First Anglo-Burmese War because they afraid with the alliance between Kedah and Burma. Is it true?
He had some kind of self-hatred because his descendants goes back to the state of Penang, not the Kedah although the both of the states are the Kedahan Malays subtribe. Penang then was under the Kedah rule. But, the Kedah Sultan lease it to the British in the 18th century with conditions that the British help Kedah to fight the revived Siamese Kingdoms after the fall of Ayuthaya Dynasty. But, British backstabbing Kedah and occupied Penang. And Kedah is forced to pay the tribute to Siam and British doesn't help Kedah to press Siam. Now, Penang is a separate state from Kedah. To calming him, is there any relationship between the state of Penang and the Great, Mighty, and the Best Gastronomic Area of the Golden Land of Myanmar?
Calling anyone who is educated in the history of the Chin State.
I, myself, am from the tribe Tedim in Chin State. I have noticed there has been a lot of tensions between the "right term" to be called in terms of our ethnicity. When the national day roll around on February 20, I see a lot of other tribes following the Chin National Day, whereas the "Zomi" people -- which I am assuming are from around Tedim, Tonzang, etc -- have it as Zomi National Day or Zomi Namni.
I have been researching the origin of the name, of both Chin and Zo, and so far, it just makes me more confused. There are different people saying Chin is the right term, and there are other people saying Zomi is the right term to describe all the tribes as a whole. I was not raised with such knowledge that there are so much internal war and hatred between all of us. To my understanding, all of us despite our different ethnic name came from the same ancestor. According to all the papers I have read, majority of them has supported the statement that the true ethnic name is Zo, however, other people seems to reject that idea. I would love to talk more about this in a respectful manner, and clear up any misunderstanding.
Please let me know if there is anyone! Thank you in advance :)
Hello everyone! As someone from Bangladesh, I've noticed a significant gap in knowledge about Myanmar among my fellow Bangladeshis, and I suspect it might be mutual. Therefore, I'm curious to learn about the perceptions Burmese people have about Bangladesh. What are your thoughts, impressions, or stereotypes, if any, about Bangladesh and its people?
Additionally, I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have about Bangladesh. Feel free to ask me anything
I'm learning hakha and just need a pro to look at a few lines and tell me what they mean, respond below if you're able and I'll message you. Thank you in advance.
I mean we arent even censored from the global internet like China, except Facebook where it is considered dead/old people place by rest of the world. In the popular video games and other foms of entertainment communities I joined, there are almost zero Myanmar people there. Yet I can even see so many other neighbours like Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines people there as usual.
I just want to have Burmese online friends that share with my interests, but sadly 99% of the people only care about Mobile Legends, and mainstream anime / artists here. I feel like people here are very one dimensional in terms of internet interests.
Almost all cities experience power outages at least once every 4 hours.
This two flat plain areas in Upper Myanmar is relatively empty. Zooming in from Google Map, you can't even find small villages in huge areas. The terrain looks flat and not hilly which would have made the emptiness understandable. So what is it? Is the entire area too marshy or people just gave up trying to drain, irrigate and settle these lands?
မင်္ဂလာပါ. I am a western Bhikkhu, living in Myanmar for quite a number of years now. When I ordained as a Bhikkhu, one thing that occupied much of my time and thinking was the question “How to make sense of the Abhidhamma?”. For explanation: I ordained in a meditation tradition that highly emphasised Abhidhamma, so, there was barely a getting around the Abhidhamma. I ordained as a monk, because I liked meditation, and I kept sticking to my tradition, because my tradition also highly emphasises meditation. So what did I do? I meditated on the Abhidhamma. But I did not do so to justify the Abhidhamma, or to squeeze my mind into the framework of the Abhidhamma, but rather I did so with an open mind and with the question in the back of my mind: “How to make sense of the Abhidhamma?”. The outcome of those meditations I have posted on a website I created for that purpose: www.highermindart.info, where I occasionally publish blog posts, Dhamma-talks, but also small video animations that try to visually show things like the meaning of the Jhāna factors or Dependent Origination. However, the reason for writing this post is the following: I have written an Abhidhamma book which basically re-invents several Abhidhamma ideas. Especially the Paṭṭhāna is almost fully re-invented. I have gotten very good feedback from a fair amount of people, both ordained and not ordained, all agreeing that “now it makes sense”. And some of these also expressed their hope that the book will be translated into Myanmar language. I myself am very far away from such task with my little Myanmar, and I also stay for the most part in seclusion, so that I do not meet many people. Hence I wanted to try to use this medium to make my book more publicly available through this download link (https://highermindart.info/?sdm_process_download=1&download_id=2565), in the hope that the book or its link will perhaps fall into the hands of some generous minded Myanmar person, who likes it’s content well enough to consider translating it into Myanmar language. Apart from that I also would like to receive some more feedback, as to how people, perhaps especially Myanmar people like it.
Hey everyone!
I'm interested in learning more about the perspectives of people in Myanmar on foreign Christian missionaries.
