I’ve been getting more nitty gritty with my political understanding of WV. The other day I was reading the details of how a bill is passed, the steps, challenges, etc. and I naively thought to myself “I’ll go look up what bills WV has introduced this year” and was shocked to find a list that appeared to have at least a thousand entries. I clicked through some and a few were just a minor addendum or change, but I did find a couple, like one on taxing wind turbines as real property, that seemed more interesting.
So, I guess I’m wondering to people who have more experience, what do you look out for you? Or at least how do you know what bill matters to you or what is maybe not a big deal? There were so many so it’s not realistic to say just read them all, right? Why do some bills get so much public attention while apparently most go unseen by the public?
Would you try to influence political organization in the state?
Would you spend it in the private sector?
Give money to charity?
Bribe—I mean lobby—the state govt?
(I asked this on r/WestVirginia and was shocked how good the responses were. I wanna ask this in a few places just to hear people out)
For the 15 of you who occasionally spend time here, I’m stepping away for awhile. I sent out a handful of mod invites in case anyone hates themselves enough to put in the time and effort.
I know each state does this differently but wanted to check. On my ballot (Jefferson County), Republicans were listed first. Even for positions that ran unopposed, the dem was in the second slot.
Is this consistent across the state? The first person listed often has a significant advantage over those listed beneath them. (source: https://electionlab.mit.edu/research/ballot-order-effects)
Anyone notice how our Republican candidate, Pat Morrissey, promises to “protect the border” in all his commercials? Is there any way he could have any impact on the border when West Virginia is nowhere near it? Or is this just empty pandering?
Since the Trump Abortion ban there have been four documented deaths of women (two black and two white) in Florida and Texas. They were forced to carry deceased babies to almost full term giving them Sepsis so extreme that no anti-biotic could save them. Women who miscarried and are refused treatment to stop bleeding or clearing out their female organs to remove leftover infection. They weren’t seeing an abortion. They were seeking medical assistance. To date, 64,000 women nationwide have been forced to give birth to children resulting from rape. All the while Trump stating publicly that he’s proud of his stance and that women will adjust “whether they like it or not.”
Our mothers, our sisters, our wives and our daughters have nursed us to heath, breathed life into us, fed our exhausted bodies, raised our beautiful children and devoted their lives to our endeavors and well being as men.
As West Virginia men, you know the best kept secret in this huge expanse called the United States. The secret being the beauty and sheer strength of West Virginia women.
Don’t put their lives at risk. Don’t harm our most precious beings when they now depend on you to do as you’ve always done: Protect them.
West Virginia is a unique state filled with exceptional people. For their sake and yours, vote able this one time as if the women in your lives depend on it because they do. 👰🏼♀️ 🙏🏻
Patrick Morrisey is a corporate shill from New Jersey that doesn’t care about our state or our people. Dude made 250k through 2010-11 lobbying for Big Pharma, and then became our Attorney General in 2013. I honestly can’t believe we’re still voting for this guy.
Any election, just curious to see the spread though I think Reddit might skew a little left.
If you're not here, you're missing a great night!
I am a young former Republican now Independent voter and I have some questions….
Is any idea of Progressivism dead in the State of West Virginia?
If so how do we rebuild it?
