Are there any eye doctors that will give you pupillary measurements with your prescription?

I’ve always felt like I overpaid for glasses by the time I get progressive lenses, and all that that I need for my vision. I hear that ordering online can be so much more economical. However, I have no idea how to measure the distances and sizes and whatever. Just wondering if anybody happens to know of an eye place that actually would give you that type of information after an eye exam. Then I could order online. If not, do you know of anywhere that has reasonable glasses?

Breezeline

My neighborhood recently got equipped with Breezeline and was approached by a salesman to switch

Anyone care to share their experiences with this ISP and how they compare to Comcast?

Potential move—give me the tea!

I’m highly considering moving to West Virginia after living on the west coast for most of my life. I love where I live, but I’d like to experience a different place for a bit. I live in a small city already, so I’m used to the sleepy town vibe. I’m into anything outdoors (hiking, paddle boarding, camping), which I know West Virginia has the best outdoor recreation.

But tell me what you love and don’t love about living in Morgantown. How’s the dating scene? Food? Nightlife? Housing? Thank you in advance!

Parking and traffic downtown during WVU home football games?

Hello I'm going to be hiking at Cooper's Rock State Park either next week or the week after. This will be my first time in the area. I just checked and both will be home games for WVU. After hiking, I want to walk around downtown and eat somewhere like Dirty Bird. Where would the best place to park be, and will car traffic be bad? Will the rates be increased because of the game? If there's a garage farther away, I don't mind walking a bit as long as there's a sidewalk.

stop

stop driving with your brights on at 7am. i will literally pay you guys to stop making the roads look like the stadium. especially since it seems to mostly be douchy frat guys in their xxl lifted trucks tailgating the wee toyota going 70mph through campus because y’all cannot stop tailgating people either. stop trying to show off for a girl and just… drive safer, people. y’all are going to downvote me and call me a karen lol but i really don’t need to be blinded by your lights.

Looking for a nice retirement state

I currently live in Austin TX, we left Teays Valley WV 29 years ago. I was a home builder and my husband and I were exhausted with fighting the horrid business climate. We decided to relocate. TX has been very good to us but it is not home. We hate the heat! We miss the mountains and seasons. We have a Costco, sprouts, natural Grocers and whole foods. From what I can see online Morgantown has no upper end grocery stores. How is organic food shopping?

The area looks beautiful. I so miss the mountains. Any info on retirement in Morgantown would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like it is a little over a hour to Costco in PA?

What kind of businesses are you wanting there to be around town?

I see quite a lot of people complain (and rightfully so) about there essentially being nothing new being brought to town. It's either a car wash, smoke shop, Sheetz, BFS, etc. being constructed for the 10 billionth time.

However, theoretically, if they were to construct something different, what would you want?

Pitt to WVU

Just wondering if I could make an 8 PM kickoff in Morgantown (Iowa State @ WVU 10/12) if I am coming from the 3:30 PM Cal @ Pitt game on 10/12. How much of the Pitt game would I have to miss assuming it’s an average game for the sake of time? Seeing it’s 1 hr 21 minutes from Acrisure Stadium to Milan Puskar stadium. Thanks.

Opinions on Korean International student attending WV & Morgantown

Hello! I have several questions related to Morgantown and how everything is like in West Virginia. I am considering attending to West Virginia University.

  1. Is Morgantown safe for an Asian Girl to live alone?

  2. I am curious about living expenses & cost of living in Morgantown.

  3. Would car be needed?

  4. And overall, how is West Virginia University and Morgantown like?

Fireworks

WTF is going on with someone near downtown letting off fireworks since 5 this evening? It would be one thing if they just let some off and stopped, but once every 5 or 10 minutes for hours on end is just getting annoying. Isn't this supposed to be illegal in city limits?

D&D in Morgantown

I'm getting an itch to play pen and paper RPGs again, anyone running any groups that need a player? I have also played Shadowrun, and I'm open to other games. I would prefer an older group if possible, as I'm over 40.

Petition the Morgantown “Camping Ban"

Hi friends, the Morgantown City Council voted 4-3 to pass a “Camping Ban” ordinance which you can read here (starts on Page 7). Essentially, it would allow police to issue up to $200-$500 fines and up to 30 days in jail for anyone sleeping outside on public property. This would basically criminalize our unhoused communities who have nowhere to go (there’s about 60 beds available for an unhoused population of 100+). This ordinance goes against what experts who work with the unhoused community believe would help people, and would make it harder for people to get help and housing.

The volunteer-run group Morgantown Coalition for Housing Action (MoCHA) is collecting signatures from registered voters who live in one of the wards in Morgantown to get a referendum to repeal the ban. They need 1,300 signatures before Oct 3. If they get the signatures, this would kick it back to city council to vote again. Likely they’ll vote the same way, and it’ll be put on the Spring 2025 ballot for all Morgantown voters to vote on it.

How to Help

  • Sign the petition before 10/3! Voters who are registered in Morgantown and live in one of the wards can sign the petition for a referendum. You have to sign in-person on one of the city-issued sheets. There is a sheet always at Hoot & Howl, Quantum Bean Coffee, and Monkey Wrench Books during regular business hours.
  • Volunteer to help MoCHA go door-to-door canvassing to get more signatures.
    • Signup at this link: tinyurl.com/mochacanvass or reach out to MoCHA on Instagram (wvmocha)
    • You don’t need any experience in canvassing to help. Just sign up and meet at the meetup spot on time (usually 6pm at some park) then you’ll get the rundown from one of the volunteers. It usually takes 2 hours, but come and go as you please. They need all the help they can get.
  • Share this info with people you know! They need 1,300 signatures before October 3, 2024! Every share counts. Do you have professors at WVU who would want to sign? Do you have relatives in Morgantown who are registered to vote?
