Trying to make some new friends that like anime. Anyone in the area interested in going to see it.
Hi all! I am happy to say I just bought a place in Hedgesville, WV! Now I have to negotiate moving cross country in the winter🤣
My big question is where would you recommend buying a car from in this area? I preference would be a couple year old certified new car with a warranty, but I might just buy a new one. Martinsburg is very close by, but I have Winchester, VA and Hagerstown, MD very close by also. It would be ideal if they were a large place that you can deal with over the internet.
Is there any issue buying the car out in Maryland or Virginia if you are living in West Virginia?
Also, would I have to have a West Virginia driver’s license before I buy the car?
Any other important items to know about buying a car here?
Thanks so much and I can’t believe my dream of coming to West Virginia has finally come true!!! ❤️WV
Hey all
Moved here recently and am struggling to find anything that goes on in the evenings that people recommend going to. I am really down for anything. Bars, clubs, music whatever. I like alternative music, metal, punk, goth, rock, edm etc I really don’t care for older dudes playing acoustic songs everyone knows the words to. If you guys have any suggestions please let me know. Very much willing to drive or go the distance to get somewhere. I’m 25 years old and prefer a younger crowd similar in age to me, college crowd is totally fine
Hello! Just moved here not too long ago. I want to send a gift basket back home with stuff from WV that family would enjoy. What are some things that you all include and from where? (It can literally be anything!) I live near Harpers Ferry, WV, for reference. Thank you for any advice that you might have!
Hi, I'm a WVU student and I'm doing research for my English class, if you have the time could you please take this quick survey for my class? My topic is why are so many West Virginians' staying/leaving the state. I'm trying to get a broad demographic so a response is very appreciated.
does anyone know of any “alt” hairstylists in the surrounding area? i’ve really been wanting a fun new hairstyle and haven’t really found anyone that seems to do what im interested in. thanks!
Good morning everyone,
I want to thank everyone who is still here after the bot takeover. It was incredibly annoying to see that spam show up in my feed and I almost left the community. Thankfully, we got the reddit admins to finally take care of it, clear out the old moderator team that was filled with bots, and appoint a new team.
We were appointed around noon yesterday, and other than opening the sub back up and unbanning a few folks that the bots didn't like, we've been taking a soft touch approach. You can expect to see some changes going forward, but we're still working out among ourselves how we're going to moderate the sub and what to implement.
If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions, please let us know in the comments, we'd love to hear from the community on how to make this sub the best place we can!
Hi everyone. I'm new to the area and am looking for a gym/ aquatic center/ whatever where I can swim laps. I see the Round Hill Indoor Aquatic Center, and the one at the university in Shepherstown (though I'm not sure this one even offers open swim?). Curious if anyone knows other options. Thanks!
Hey y'all! My husband and I are doing our first trunk or treat and we've come up with a theme - the zoo!! We wanted to get a baby gate and put some stuffed animals behind it to go with our zookeeper costumers. Problem is, we don't have a baby 😅 so it wouldn't make much sense for us to buy one for just 1 night. Does ANYONE have a baby gate we could use for 1 night - Oct. 17. We live in Falling Waters and we are happy to come pick it up from you and drop it off that Saturday. Please let me know!!
WV panhandle is seeing lots of growth and experiencing the pains that come with it, not to mention local/state corruption.
The bulk of transplants are from VA/MD, hence why I’m posting here. To preface, I don’t blame people moving to find a safe, “more affordable” home in beautiful WV for their family. Everyone is able move whenever and we shouldn’t be NIMBY and say “we’re full,” which is what many frustrated locals say. (As they drive out of state for work like everyone else)
That said, I’m curious of what new residents think after getting their house, settling down, and seeing the reality of things and the problems we face. The area is growing unsustainably and rapidly with housing, but infrastructure/services/medical/education can’t keep pace. Plus, new dev is geared towards higher income transplants from adjacent areas, not locals. And think about infrastructure…most commute out of WV down windy roads over river/mountains and if one car has an accident, the region is crippled. (340, 9, 115)
What are peoples’ thoughts after moving + experiencing the lack of amenities they left behind such as better schools, parks, roads, sidewalks, entertainment/dining, better politics (IMO), etc. VA and MD had similar growing pains in the past, but I feel the difference is those states had more robust economies and the capacity to improve amenities with residential growth and have higher paying jobs. It’s the same reason why so many teachers/LEO/public employees work in WV for a few years and then cross state line for higher salaries (understandably so.)
If’s interesting because although people move from adjacent states, many seem to “reject” the idea of WV and basically buy a house but don’t change their ID/car plates for years, do their social stuff out of state, and don’t claim WV or get involved in a community. Being a bedroom with most jobs far away, this makes sense and is the reality of our local (lack) of job market.
I believe our state is on the upswing and can be an even better place to live, but we’ve got a lot of work to do and things to address. What are y’all’s thoughts on all this growth? Any regrets or things you miss?
And how do we shape WV going forward?
Trying to help my S.O. find a new career / job that makes 50k or more. If anyone has any leads or suggestions where to look. A.A. Degree only, but lots of years of managerial experience. Open to places like Leesburg, Ashburn, Winchester, etc.
My fiancee and I are looking for the best spot for engagement pictures. Our photographer recommended poor house farm which is fine but I only remember it as a kid playing football there. Any suggestions are welcomed that aren’t going to be super busy on a weekend!
My neighbors are up in arms regarding how tall some individuals in the subdivision let their lawn grow.
I could care less, considering I have a small section of lawn myself that would be considered tall. However, I was wondering if there are any requirements that specify lawn height/care statues in Berkeley County, specifically Gerrardstown that could be enforceable.
I looked on Berkeley County’s website, but was unable to find anything specific.
Thank you in advance!
Anyone going near Foxcroft this weekend or planning on hitting I-81 via Apple Harvest Drive be aware that the road is closed at the railroad crossing until Monday late afternoon. Right now it's rush hour and Mall Drive and Winchester Ave are bumper to bumper and moving VERY slowly. You may want to consider taking the official detour during heavy traffic periods depending on which direction you're going. It just took me 20 mins to go from around the Dairy Queen to Wal-Mart and I talked to someone else that said it took them 30-40 mins to get there from Lowe's.
Any good haunted houses in the area I should keep an eye out for? Getting closer to spooky season.
I live in Charles Town for about a year and a half now. Everything seems to close super early and as a night shift employee this is devastating I need some night life things to do on the weekends. It’s been a real struggle to meet locals and try and make friends out here.
Not my experience with Anthony’s Pizza Sick - I mean, 6
The chives 💀hah! I can’t!
My family is looking into moving to Falling Waters, WV, from Woodbridge, VA....what are some pros and cons about the area I should know?
I just want to schedule my uglyass couch for bulk trash pickup
It used to be so easy!
We’d call them, talk to someone immediately, haggle about the bulk items, done.
They’ve changed their interface and phone reception within the last year, for some reason, and it is insane.
Can’t get them on the phone. Can’t get a call back. No one replies on their little chat app, and then this message pops up.
99 people, lol!
I doubt that, shitty computer program. Just glitchy and not-usable.
Or; 99+ of y’all are also waiting to message with ‘Rafael’ at Apple Valley Waste for All Your Trashy Needs, and crashing their system.
It ain’t happening. Just give up!
It’s not, like, a giant global conglomerate company we’re talking about here. They don’t need some crazy AI answering service.
They need to just bring back old No-Nonsense Marge, or whoever, who used to answer the phones, maybe hire another couple’a Marges to take calls if it’s really that hectic, and just… answer the phones!
…and come get my haunted couch!
I’m sharing my story because I don’t have to stay silent anymore.
WVU humiliated me, dismissed me, and called me delusional.
When I came forward with my sexual assault, bringing forward solid evidence—including a SANE exam—they accused me of fabricating the whole thing. They even went so far as to say my thinking was distorted. They used my mental health as a way to discredit me.
It’s heartbreaking to realize that instead of supporting survivors, WVU protects abusers, fraternities, athletes, and professors—those who hold power. They would rather silence victims than tarnish their image.
This is bigger than just me. There’s a pattern here, and it’s something we need to talk about. I want to bring this issue to light and force WVU to change.
I am talking to reporters, who want to hear stories from victims to this kind of behavior that WVU participates in. You can remain anonymous, it is to help identify a pattern.
Here’s the link to my story and my experience at WVU: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTNKfVnqY/
Here is the link to the google quiz I’ve made to let people talk about an experience they had, anonymous or not: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScQBtGrG0sNs4pFaKYvYywH9frw8mvxcNvBTtYEE8zguL1pdA/viewform?usp=sf_link
Here is instagram page I am creating for those who want to tell stories or show support there: @exposingthepattern_wvu
I’ve also attached a flyer here, this is my personal contact information if someone wants to come directly to me, or needs someone to talk to.
Let’s start a conversation. WVU needs to be held accountable for how they treat survivors.
Hello, I live in Spring Mills but I have some property just inside of Hampshire County, between Great Cacapon and Paw Paw. I would like to put electric up there. The power line runs right through it, so it wouldn't be much work, mostly the electric companies job. Anyone know of an electrician for Hampshire county I could work with on this?
Please call if you have seen or know the whereabouts of repeat domestic abuser James Faircloth. This guy seems to have tendency of not going to court after abusing his family. There always seems to be someone stupid enough to bond him out. Let’s give this piece of shit a long term stay at the ERJ.
