My girlfriend and I will be visiting some family in Charleston and aren’t from the area. Are there any fun activities in or around (within an hour drive) of the area? Neither of us drink so pub/bar crawls aren’t really our thing
I'm from Saint Albans, and I'm needing a roommate to the place I'm wanting to move to. If anyone has questions, just ask.
I’m wanting to pick up soccer on my own and I’m looking for a place where i can take a ball and cones to practice. Preferably a decently groomed field with a net.
My car needs some work done, mostly just a lot of deferred maintenance performed. Does anyone have an auto shop in or around Charleston they’d recommend, price, quality of service, etc.
There's a series of tall metal poles being installed along Corridor G between downtown and the shopping malls. You'd think they will be for road lighting, given their size, but the tops of each (they're still laying on the ground) have something like cellular antenna equipment - no lights.
There's way too many of them (sometimes a few hundred yards apart) to be for cellular coverage. What are they?
Are people dressing up for halloween this Friday and Saturday? (October 25/26)
What the title says. I'm not talking complete doxxing with addresses and all that, but maybe a mug, or camera footage with a name attached.
Shit is getting ridiculous and the fuzz is just as bad, so they don't get called, and these insects continue to run amok.
My family is traveling and will be in Charleston for Halloween. What neighborhoods will be good options to take my son trick-or-treating? He’s 10 and Halloween is a big deal. Thanks!
I have 2-3 bars on 5G but my data will not load basically at all. If it does, it’s insanely slow. I am only really noticing this downtown.
Anyone else?
I moved here in peak pandemic and never got around to finding a likeminded community of musicians and songwriters. I sang and played guitar/keys and toured for years in a postrock band before moving here and feel like a huge piece of me is missing. Bonus points for weirdos (read: indie rock, synthwave, shoegaze, and anything else off the beaten path)!
Hello. I’m a newly diagnosed full ass adult.
Does anyone have a pharmacy that seems to do better than others with ADHD medication shortages? Walmart took a month.
From what I understand the back orders could affect other medications as well. I’m just trying to get ahead of this if we continue adderall or try something else.
I appreciate any advice!
EDIT TO ADD: I’m just looking for people’s experiences with local pharmacies regarding the shortage.
For example - did you have better luck with a privately owned pharmacy vs a chain? What were your wait times like? Even if you had to wait, were your wait times what you would consider reasonable?
I hope this makes sense.
I’m 100% NOT looking to obtain any medication in any manner that is illegal.
Hi. I'm 35, married with 3 children.
6, 2 and 9 months.
This is so random and makes no sense. We know no one there but my intuition has been telling me WV is where we belong.
Mountaineer Montessori looks great.
Whats the weather like right now. What are summers like. Winters?
We both grew up in cold winters (oh, ny) but idk... I opened zillow just out of curiosity and fate had me click my dream home 1st shot.
Gave me chills. I can't let this go.
Help me convince my husband!
Is this available anywhere in Charleston? If not and you don’t have any family - what is your go to solution when your normal situation is not available (besides take off work - if in a blue collar job that’s something you MIGHT get away with twice) any ideas or suggestions besides don’t have a child if you can’t take care it or a better plan like starting your own business those aren’t an option. - little late for that lol
Plz if nothing nice or helpful to say don’t comment. Thank you
Charleston has to have a pyromaniac on the loose. Every day there's a house fire, usually in vacant houses.
Hello! I will be visiting this beautiful city next week for a fall vacation. Wondering if there are any recommended fall/Halloween things to do during the week. I love ghost tours, halloween-themed bars, anything with spooky vibes. Thank you!
Looking for friends in the Cross Lanes area
Is there a way to find out which places will make Dentures for someone who has medicaid? I'm trying to help a relative find this. Medicaid says that they will pay up to $1,000 per year and I have called something like eight offices but none of them accept medicaid. Medicaid told me to keep calling but I'm wondering if any of them actually DO accept it?
I can drive this guy to Beckley or Charleston if needed. Just wondering if anybody has experience with this, thank you very much
Has anyone seen the iced flavor anywhere around? I can’t find it!
Who’s had a rhinoplasty or a facelift in or around the Huntington area and would you use that Dr again? Doesn’t have to be the same Dr. I’m having a hard time finding a surgeon in the area. You can message me if you don’t feel comfortable replying on this thread.
Hey everyone!
(Mods - please delete if not allowed, but I can provide additional info/credentials if needed.) I work for a corporate relocation company and I’m reaching out because there’s a large company that’s opening a new division here in Charleston and they’ll be bringing over a group of about 30 employees and their families from Brazil in early 2025. We’re looking to connect with people who can fluently speak Portuguese and [ideally] have experience with relocation services. We’re aiming to have 3-4 Portuguese-speaking relocation consultants ready to assist them as they settle in.
If you or someone you know fits the bill, or if you have any leads, please reach out. Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, and feel free to ask any questions.
Hi friends. I am coming into town for a funeral and looking for places where I can get lunch or dinner reservations for a large group (~10-12 people). I would also appreciate advice on anywhere that serves meals (not just snacks) that could handle that size group of walk-ins, such as a pizza place or brewery. Thanks very much for your help - we have lots to think about, so any ideas lighten our load. I'm looking forward to seeing your lovely city despite the circumstances.
Oh and 'Snobbins' downriver perhaps too
Looking to get some ceramic tint for my new car but have no local references. Anyone have a place they like?
I'll be in town visiting for thanksgiving and looking for recommendations for dinner. Preferably a nicer restaurant, but a good catering option if nothing else.
TLDR: Do you have any ideas, advice, or suggestions for a breakfast catering service that could handle a wedding with 60-70 guests?
A little background: My fiancée is a South Charleston native who spent her entire life in WV prior to moving for grad school (where we met). She has a deep and abiding love of her home state which I’ve learned many West Virginians share. Naturally, she insisted on getting married in WV so we have booked a venue for this coming May (near Scott Depot. JHL Country Charm to be specific).
For the reception, we are exploring the idea of “breakfast for dinner” and have not run into immediate success. We have looked at a few obvious options like Bob Evan’s, Cracker Barrel, and IHOP. They all offer pretty standard fair: eggs, sausage/bacon, potatoes, etc.. These could do in a pinch, but we would prefer something a little classier. To that end we found Cafe Appalachia and Swiftwater Cafe. We like their offerings but aren’t sure they will take a catering order of our size (60-70) or that they will travel if needed. We would also just appreciate more options.
Since large, upscale breakfast doesn’t seem to be a super common wedding catering option, we figured we may need to combine a few different vendors. Maybe food trucks? This brings me to my ask: do you know of any local restaurants or catering services that could provide a mid-to-upper scale breakfast for a 60-70 person wedding?
While you’re here we would also love to hear any general suggestions, advice or recommendations you might have on a “breakfast for dinner” reception. If you’ve done/seen a similar concept please, share your experience!
Thank you in advance: especially if you read this far. I appreciate any help you can provide in making my fiancée’s WV wedding as wonderful as possible!
It’ll be my first time in Charleston WV this weekend. I have no idea really how big or small the town is, but I’m a worried about transportation to/from a wedding at a local country club. Should I be looking into renting a car? How reliable is ride share service there?
Any help is appreciated!
Just a rant in general but I have never had such bad luck with rentals as I have since moving to Charleston. I may be more likely to notice things since I have a severe allergy to mold but holy cow. First of all, no offense but this is Charleston, WV.. why are landlords charging so much??? Secondly almost all of the places I have looked at and been suckered into renting had mold/badly hidden/covered up mold problem. That shit ruined my health. Sorry but other places I’ve lived were much more strict about it and it’s just SAD that I’ve lost many lifelong possessions after moving to Charlestons mold ridden places. I would out the slumlords but I still have to stay here and there are only so many in town. Sorry don’t take offense as I know it’s not any one persons fault but no wonder there is an asthma center here.
