    Women’s Professional Workwear Donation

I have a good bit of women’s workwear that I no longer need - I’m wanting to donate it. Does anyone know of local places that could use it? I would rather not give it to Goodwill or a place that will sell it if possible.

Does the federal courthouse allow people in just see the inside of it?

I grew up here and have never been inside, nor had a reason to. But I've always been curious about it.

Hockey bars or teams to watch here in Charleston?

I consider myself a pretty big hockey fan although I don’t play but I love watching it. I recently moved here and with the NHL season starting soon I wanted to know if anyone here could recommend a bar that will usually put on NHL games (Penguins, blue jackets, whoever) or if there are any teams that play? I know there’s the ice rink near corridor G that Marshall used to play it but it doesn’t look like they still have a team :(

Car insurance, winter tires and auto mechanic

Hi everyone, Asking a few things at once.

I will be moving to Charleston soon. For winter, is it mandatory by insurance company to have winter tires in Charleston?

Which company provides the best rate?

Also is there any independent reliable auto mechanic you can recommend? I have an older pilot and hoping to keep that on the road for a few more years by taking good care of it. But want to avoid dealership if possible!

    Thanks in advance.

I'm the Author of a True Crime Book on Appalachia's "Pill Mill Killer" and I'm Visiting Charleston on October 7. AMA.

    Hi, Charleston-area folks!

I'm a journalist who spent a decade reporting on one of the tri-state area's most notorious pill mill doctors: Paul Volkman, who is currently serving four consecutive life terms in prison.

Volkman worked in pain clinics in Portsmouth and Chillicothe, Ohio between 2003 and 2006 before he was shut down. Prosecutors charged him with drug-dealing that resulted in the deaths of more than ten patients.

My book about Volkman's case -- Prescription for Pain: How a Once-Promising Doctor Became the 'Pill Mill Killer' -- was released earlier this year. The Columbus Dispatch has called it a "riveting true-crime page-turner." And I was recently a guest on "The Last Podcast on the Left."

On October 7 at 6 p.m., I'll be discussing the book at Charleston's Taylor Books. I'd love to see you there -- and, in the mean time, I'm happy to answer any questions you have about this story, my work as a journalist, or anything else.

Is the grindr game alright in downtown Charleston?

Moving to the east end next week. Praying the hookup culture isn't that bad since there is a university. By bad I mean weirdos, clingy weirdos, guys just looking for a ride to the store, heavy drug users, dangerous types.

I honestly don't hookup much but my experience being from another part of WV more rural than Charleston is god fucking awful.

Avoid Next Level Catering (formerly Thyme After Time)

This review was posted on Next Level Catering’s Facebook page (formerly Thyme After Time) in Charleston, WV. They have since deleted the review and blocked me. I’ll add screenshots if required as well as the civil suit that we won (names blacked out of course).

READ UNTIL THE END. We hired Anthony and his catering service for our wedding last year. At the tasting, the service, people, and food were great. My wife and I were in agreement immediately. They were quick to respond and reassuring leading up to the wedding date. However, the day of the wedding they were supposed to arrive at 2pm with 150 people’s worth of food. They, unfortunately didn’t arrive until around 6pm, where they brought about 80 people’s worth of food and less than that of drinks. The lemonade was watered down and the coffeemaker they brought was broken. The food was dried out and cold when it was being served. My wife called them DIRECTLY AFTER OUR CEREMONY (yes, the woman that was just married. No one tried reaching out to us) to see what happened. The woman on the phone gave two different excuses on two different occasions: 1) they got lost 2) they had to run back to Charleston. The staff at the wedding were nice enough and the lead caterer there was very apologetic, stating that they would get in touch with us to get us squared away. That never happened. My wife and her stepmother reached out to the company multiple times and got the runaround. They then stopped responding completely. I have reached out to Anthony Wilkins directly but he blocked me. I don’t recommend this place not because of the food but because of the unprofessional owner. If he would have owned up to his and his company’s mistakes, it would have lessened the stress and hardship on my wife, guests, and memory of an otherwise beautiful day. If you do go through this place, get EVERYTHING in writing and copies.

Does any pharmacy in the valley have a solid supply of Adderall right now?

Idk about all versions, but my dosage of XR is out at everywhere I've called.

    Who's Making the Cash?

So, instead of putting the cops out in the areas where the crime is, the brilliant minds in city government have decided to concentrate the force along Elk River in the former BB&T building.

I may be wrong, but since BB&T's involved, I'll bet the Dickinson family stands to make a bundle. Insights?

Ruffner Avenue should be rezoned to allow commercial businesses

The East End Historic District south of Washington is very beautiful, but it suffers from a lack of resturants, retail stores, coffee shops, bakeries, and general commercial oriented businesses within walking distance of the best homes of the historic district.

Washington Street is zoned commercial, but the street itself acts more as a road for travel from A to B than a nice street to hang out on. The nature of the long blocks of Lee/Quarrier/Virginia also make it harder to walk to storefronts on Washington directly.

If Ruffner Avenue were rezoned to allow coffee shops, bakeries, or retail stores, some of the beautiful homes could be repurposed for these businesses. The street is already calmer than Washington, but it could be redesigned to have a more pedestrian oriented atmosphere for these businesses to flourish.

Let's also take into account the redevelopment of Kanawha Boulevard. This will likely draw much more attention to the use of Boulevard as a park, which means more foot traffic, which would generate a demand for more services in the immediate area. Ruffner Avenue is primed for that.

    Does anyone here agree?

    Tax advisor recommendation?

Can someone recommend a tax advisor, please? My cousin is on disability and didn't file/pay for 2023. She borrowed from a retirement account because she needed to put a roof on her house, then didn't set any $ aside for taxes. So, she'll need help getting a payment plan set up. So, any Rec's for an advisor or any tax programs that help with a disabled person that may be able to help would be awesome. Thank you.

Where to find pawpaw near Charleston?

I just moved here several months ago from Florida and was eager to try pawpaw since it doesn’t exist where I’m from. Any idea where I should start with looking for it.

Can anyone recommend a realtor or company to go through?

I’m sorry for asking but does anyone know a realtor or realty company they recommend? I want to move back to be closer to family and my roots, I was wondering who knows a reputable realtor or realty that they would trust to help you find what you’re looking for.

    Charleston library help

Just wondering if anyone can help with some audiobooks on CD held by the Charleston main library, for an international Redditor.

From what I can find online, Charleston is only 1 of 2 libraries in the world to still have copies of the Silent Witness audiobooks (as in, the books that came before the BBC TV show). I'm trying to source them for my mother, who is vision-impaired.

If you can help, DM me for details. Thanks
