Can anyone let me know the names of model plane shops in Denver and Lakewood Colorado.

A friends model plane was sold to a shop here and trying to get a list to track it down.

Silly questions from a newbie modeller

I've built maybe a handful of models in the past but nowhere near the quality and beauty that I see on here. For all intents and purposes, I consider myself a newbie modeller.

I'm building a 1/100 scale YF-19 HG kit from Bandai. I don't have an airbrush and don't plan on painting this kit even with a rattle can. I've just splurged and treated myself to a God Hand (4) and a glass file. I also have some normal box cutters. These are all I have tools-wise, though I have some tweezers and long nose pliers from my soldering/electronics kit.

  1. What's the deal with God Hand? It does cut well but I'm not sure if it's any better than my wire clippers. The guy in the shop was on about left-handed cutting vs right-handed too. What's that about?

  2. Am I supposed to glue this together like aircraft model kits? Or just snap them together like Gundam kits?

  3. If I am to glue them together, I am using Tamiya extra thin cement (green cap) and it does leave a shiny spot where I dab the brush for capillary action. Is there a way to clean this up? Or am I better off just not glueing?

  4. Once assembled, is it fine just to leave it as the bare plastic? Of should I spray something protective over it? I won't be playing with it much but it won't be locked away in a glass case either.

  5. Is there like an idiots guide to scale modelling? I feel like there are a lot of concepts to grasp but these aren't immediately obvious so I won't even know to ask until after I've messed something up.

I'm just looking to slowly up my game and improve my skills so any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Gecko Models

Hi All, just a question really, I have just started this Gecko Models K2Y ambulance, the attention to detail is awesome, but the plastic is bloody awful, really brittle. Probably the worst I've encountered. I've just chucked some parts I'll have to scratch build using Tamiya sprues. I should have gone with the Airfix version but some twat on Amazon reviews said this version blew the Airfix out of the water. Has anyone else had problems with Gecko?

Organization

Hey hobbyist! I'm currently having a storage dilemma for my paints. The cheap wood ones from Amazon are far too expensive to be as flimsy as they are. I've considered purchasing a 3D printer and designing my own.

What are your solutions? What do you use to store your paints, brushes, and other things neatly.

Thanks to you folk, we've hit 20k members!

So it's been about 4 years since I started modding /r/scalemodel and all I wanted to do was grow it a little and keep it from dying. We had a little over 3000 subscribers back then, and I want to say the sub's growth really exceeded my expectations. And we've seen a LOT of really awesome modeling since then. You gal's and guy's models just amaze the hell out of me. You guys have been so awesome to mod, you have been very welcoming of new members as well as newbies to the hobby, you have been very inclusive, and you've been amazing at helping each other out. I am very proud to have had a roll in this community and hopefully in it's growth and I look forward to the next big milestone. Thank you to you all.

Titanic to Olympic/Britannic

Hi!

Is there an easy way to convert an "Titanic" model kit to an model of "Olympic", or even "Britannic".

The difference between early Olympic vs Titanic should be semi-easy, mainly the open promenade deck (just below boat deck) so just cut out holes.

Is there any other trics?

Used bits?

Anyone know a spot(s) in LA where I can buy tons of randoms models, bits and pieces? Even incomplete models. I kitbash ork things and love using random bits whether it be warhammer stuff, model trains, scale armor etc..

Not sure if there’s some kind of swap meet or trading post or eventthat people go to or convention etc… the point here is to find random stuff for cheap prices, not full legitimate kits. Don’t want to ruin things people want.

Thanks!

Tu-134 water bomber

So here's my complete water bomber version of the Tu-134 in the colors of my town's station logo where I am working at.

I tried everything to prevent the paint from leaking through the tape, it once again did not work.

Any good beginner airbrush suggestions?

I was looking to get an airbrush but I don’t know what would be a good brand to get started on. Also, does anyone know any good brands that make pre thinned paints for airbrushes?
