Buying at the deadline

If the Rangers are looking for a 3rd line Center or another winger, Dman ect. Who would be most ideal under the current cap situation.

Projected cap space: $3,610,029

Current cap space: $9,366,563

Deadline cap space: $16,502,991

LTIR Pool: $0

I'll list my top 3 guys for Center and Defense I feel might fit, garnering the FO is serious about running it back...given they make the playoffs. I won't go into full detail regarding contracts and UFA's considering some of them are pending free agency this Summer or the next.

Centers:

Brock Nelson, 33yo, $6m, NYI; Helped the Islanders to back to back ECF appearances in 20 and 21. Would bring some additonal veteran presense to the bottom 6 and is still one of the Isles top scorers. 32pts this season. Great on the PK. A good leader and has plenty of playoff exp. from those gritty isles teams a few years back.

Trevor Zegras, 23yo, $5.75m, ANA; Local kid. Has been linked to the NYR before. Anaheim is trash this year and may look to move on from Zegras for picks, players and/or prospects. 14pts so far in 24-25...but could elevate his game in a different market and would add more dynamics and speed to the bottom 6. Some say he's soft. No NHL playoff experience yet.

Scott Laughton, 30yo, $3m, PHI; I don't like the idea of trading with PHI but with his cap hit it's very enticing. Currently plays LW on their 3rd line however he could also slot to center and be another physical asset against grindier opponents. He's also plays both 1st units special on special teams on Philly.

Defenders:

Brian Dumoulin, LD, 33yo, $3.15m, ANA; 2x champ with PIT and would add a solid lockdown D to the 3rd pair. Could see him being part of a massive asset flip between the parties. PK first unit. 6'4ft, 214lbs. 12pts (all assists) and a -3. May be a bit slower than we'd like.

Ivan Provorov, LD/RD, 27yo, 4.725m, CBJ; Doubtful considering the Jackets are in the playoff mix. Pending UFA. Would be an expensive rental to acquire. He can slot anywhere you'd like. Would be a prime candid to play with Fox or Miller. 21pts so far. Worth the risk IMO.

Scott Savard, RD, 34yo, $3.5m, MTL; A champion Vet from Tampas 2021 team. MTL has a plethora of young defensemen in their farm system and would likely push Savard out of the lineup pretty soon. Holds the lead in MTL for blocked shots with 109 this year. Not much of a play driver but a solid defender than can go a long way in a deep run despite his age creeping towards the mid 30's.

Let's hear some thoughts below. Is there anyone you're interested that wasn't in the afformentioned text? If so, then who? How could we acquire them?

Please keep it civil this is all just hyopthetical.

Sam’s amazing Casino Night gift to my son

I went to Casino Night for the first time ever this year specifically to see off Sam. After waiting in a line for about 10 minutes I finally got my moment with him. I knew Sam was a kind man but never in a million years did I expect him to be this generous with his time.

After a little small talk, I mentioned that my son Preston was a huge fan and that he wishes he could be there (he’s only 9). He asked me if Preston plays hockey, to which I replied in the affirmative.

He then said to roll my camera and the result is this video. My son was beaming watching this and he will cherish it forever.

What a beautiful man Sam is. Even more genuine and humble than I imagined. I will miss him so much.

(BTW, Preston scored a goal the next night 😁)

Chytil medical

Hi - Canucks fan here .. missing JT like crazy but happy for you guys to have him! Him and his wife did so much for our community which was amazing. Glad he is in the Eastern USA where he is from.

I'm just wondering if anyone can give me a quick briefing on what the primary medical concerns with Chytil have been over the last few years?

Thanks :)

Rangers prospects Gabe Perrault & Drew Fortescue on TV tonight

The Bean Pot tournament, pitting the top 4 Boston area mens hockey teams has the BC Eagles with Perrault and Fortescue playing Northeastern at TD Garden Arena at 8 PM on NESN and NESN 4K. Boston University is currently walloping the Harvard team entering the 3rd period, so they'll likely play tonight's winner a week from tonight in the championship game.

I met Rangers legend Teddy Irvine #27 this past weekend!

Older heads this one is for you…I’m hanging out in a hotel in Miami waiting to catch a flight back home when an old man with Rangers gear on walked by. I said “Let’s go Rangers” and he gave me a nod and said “I used to play for them in the 70s!” My eyes lit up and immediately we chatted about the amazing late 70s teams with Rod Gilbert, Eddie G, Jean Rattelle, etc. He was the nicest guy! He was waiting to get on a wrestling/heavy metal cruise as his son is famed wrestler Chris Jericho!

When will guys like Perreault, Othmann, Berard, Fortescue, etc. be ready?

This is just an innocent question because I don't follow the American league / college that much. Will any of them be "NHL ready" by next season? I know Emery will take some time but these other guys have to be close, no?

LD1 Issue

What will Drury’s plan for Ryan Lindgren will be come Round 1 Game 1 (assuming NYR make the playoffs)

Not what you hope happens, what you think will happen

Doing everything in our power to get Zibanejad going, yet nothing is being done about Adam Fox (whose ceiling is the best DMan in the league) being a Top30-50 D Man this season

Cap Going Way Up

My very first thought when I saw that the cap is going up ~30% was, I am damn glad we got Igor’s deal done before the news and it looks a lot better now that we have the details (I was always for it; but it looks even better to me now)

does anyone else use these towels or do you keep them as mementos?

Recently I decided to just use the towels from the past few years runs. Used to keep them, and then I realized it’s just a memory of not being good enough.

This is a good one though, will always make me smile. Game 7 Panarin OT winner vs. PIT (fuck the pens).

Would love to see other peoples’ towels from past years. I have a bunch.

Last nights 3 stars. Corrected my video so it will go landscape halfway through the Miller herring the Third Star. My apologies I was just too darn giddy witnessing Quicky’s Historic Day.

We need a 3C

Ok so I fully expected Mika to be demoted to 3C with Miller on the team, but looks like Laviolette is still desperate to get Mika going. I am fine with Mika at wing if it means he is going to play better, but that leaves serious holes in our lineup and really hurts our depth. We basically have one first line followed by two third lines.

I like Johnny Brodzinski as a maintenance player who can jump in on the fourth line when someone get's hurt, but he cannot be our 3C for the rest of the season. That third line is a black hole and I don't think we can expect Cuylle or Kreider to be effective when they're deployed like that. Laviolette obviously thinks that line is a problem as well--he barely played them last night.

The second line is also an issue. Smith, Trocheck, and Lafreniere just don't really do it for me chemistry-wise. It's great that the first line is dangerous but we're in trouble if we can't roll out three lines. If the plan is to keep Mika at wing for the foreseeable future, we need to acquire a 3C somehow.

In his 2 games here, JT Miller has 4 points (2-2-4). And since playing with Miller (PP/ES), Zibanejad also has 4 points (1-3-4)

Maybe Mika moving to wing with a true #1 center is all that was needed…
