Why are Some of You Turning a Blind Eye to This?

This is a follow up to my previous post where I shared that it's the Supreme Court's fault that Trump won. What baffled me was how there were some folks who said that the Democrats are to blame even though they voted for Harris themselves. To those of you who that feel that way, how is it that you all are turning a blind eye to the fact that polls from late 2023/early 2024 showed even Biden ahead of Trump when the participants were asked who'd they support in a scenario where Trump was held accountable and convicted on J6? This proves that if Biden could even defeat Trump in that scenario, then Harris would have very easily defeated Trump in that instance. I mean, Trump even won the popular vote, there's no way he would have done so had he been convicted for his J6 crimes. The Supreme Court was the reason to why we didn't get the J6 trial before the election, not the Democrats, which is exactly why I blame SCOTUS for Trump's win.

PS- In addition, the fact that some of you are blaming the Democrats for Trump's win also tells me that you believe that they are the ones responsible for the (possible) end of our democracy, which to me is messed up.

New Mexico Politics Monthly General Chat - December 01, 2024 | Welcome!

INTRODUCTION

r/NewMexicoPolitics is a political discussion sub for the news and discussion about politics, with more politics than /r/NewMexico, and more New Mexico than /r/Politics. The Community Standards are still as always in effect.

PURPOSE OF GENERAL CHAT

Normally this subreddit is setup to address the political and social issues that divide our state and dominate our social media feeds. The purpose of this very different thread is to trial a space for community members to talk about more than just our state politics.

We hope that we can help encourage community participants to find a way past the ideological differences that frequently appear in the comments and share more about the New Mexico they experience every week. For many participants, the issues that occur every week are personal, and a general chat is a space for folks to acknowledge how their lived experiences shape their points of view.

In this thread you can talk about any variety of politics, Ukraine, subreddit polls, surveys and predictions, your vacation, your pets, your latest hiking adventure, or tell us about your day, or almost anything under the overcast skies. Just have fun, be kind, remember the human and model the kind of civil, productive discussion we are hoping to have here on a regular basis.

Auto Moderator & Account / Karma Filtering

The team still strongly feels that hand crafted moderation is the ideal to shoot for, as we want a hands on approach to creating an inclusive environment where people can discuss New Mexico's political ideas. That said, we will continue focusing on using auto moderator to filter our slurs, bigoted slang, and pejorative-name calling. In addition, we'll be using it to filter out content from new accounts within 45 days and accounts with less than 100 karma.

POLITICAL DISCOURSE

Just a reminder that we should all advocate for truthfulness, accuracy, honesty, and reason as essential to the integrity of communication. Participants in this subreddit should be willing to endorse freedom of expression, diversity of perspective, and tolerance of dissent to achieve the informed and responsible decision making fundamental to a civil society.

Thank you again everyone.

Petition: Let’s Enshrine Abortion and Gender-Affirming Care Access in Our State Constitution!

Hi everyone,

I’m launching a campaign to protect access to abortion and gender-affirming care in New Mexico by enshrining these rights in our state constitution. Right now, our laws protect both abortion and gender-affirming care access, but laws can change.

Speaker of the House Javier Martinez recently said:

I think we’re good. I don’t think we need to do that. But, you know, if the experts, if community groups who work on this issue, feel like that’s what we need to do, then that’s where we’ll go.

I think now is the time to act. A majority of New Mexicans support abortion and gender-affirming care, and these services aren't just life saving, it ensures people the freedom to make choices about their health. Enshrining these rights in the constitution would ensure they are protected for generations to come, regardless of political changes.

I’ve created a petition on change.org to gather support and show our lawmakers that New Mexicans want these protections to be permanent. Please sign and share the petition here: https://chng.it/XwLCr9t8nT

How you can help:

  1. Sign the petition – it only takes a minute!
  2. Share this post with your networks on Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
  3. Talk to your friends and family about why this is important and encourage them to sign. If you can get 5 people you know to sign it, that would be really huge.
  4. Contact your legislators to let them know you want these protections enshrined in our constitution. You can look up your Representative and Senator and their contact information here.

Let’s make New Mexico a leader in protecting healthcare access and human rights. Together, we can get this done.

Thanks for your support! Let me know if you have any questions or ideas to help push this campaign forward.

It would be great if NM gave more than lip service to climate change.

NM Dems are trying to lose NM

I'm subscribed to both NM Democrats and NM Republican emails. "Both sides" and all that.

And I like receiving the Republican emails. Sure, they ask for money like all political emails, but they also have a lot of other functions. They encourage people to run for office; they're often informative, identifying bills that warrant calling a senator or rep; they're informative also by helping explain the political situation and how I can contribute; they advertise a podcast with Steve Pearce that I've never listened to; they invite subscribers to get-togethers and other political meetings. In short, the Republican political campaign is 24/7, 365. They want more than my money or even my vote; they want my participation.

Now what do I get from state Democrats? Nothing. Quite literally nothing at all. The National party sends emails that basically say, "Trump bad, give us money!" and that's it. But the NM Democrats send nothing.

Fortunately, I hate everything Republicans actually stand for (their rhetoric is great, though), so I'll remain a Democrat, but wtf?! Where is the Democratic leadership? Where's the political challenge? Where's the god damn urgency as Trump shines his baseball bat before bludgeoning the federal government?

To get out in front of a rule 7 violation, maybe I'm wrong. I mean, maybe other people see more activity from NM democrats or something? Let me know. Because the only information I get about them is what I seek out. I really think they're trying to lose NM.

This is the Supreme Court's Fault

As to why Trump won the election with NM being pretty close. Had he been held accountable for what he did on J6, it would've badly damaged him that Harris would've easily taken the election. But, the conservatives on SCOTUS did everything to prevent this from happening, even going as far as to giving him some immunity. This is why I'm blaming them as to why Trump won. Do you agree or disagree with me on this?

2020 to 2024 Presidential Vote Differences

It looks like Harris got 30K fewer votes than Biden while Trump gained about 18K. And it looks like Socorro went red this time.

Given Lujan's blunders last legislation session, it's a wonder how the next two years will play out. I mean, I don't have any hope for anything good, but you never know, I suppose.

Presidential Election - It's about time it's almost over....

Thank God we are only 7 days away from this election cycle being over. For the record, I live in New Mexico. I'm an independent. I was a Democrat my entire adult life. I changed to independent because I finally realized I needed to vote for people, not party. Let me tell you, being betrayed by your own party is a tough lesson, but trust me, I learned it! Back to the election. I'm tired of the commercials. I'm tired of the Facebook and Instagram ads, posts and arguments. I'm really tired of politicians staff sending text messages begging for money!!! I made the mistake of donating $40 to 1 of the federal campaigns. Boy was that a mistake. After that donation, it was a feeding frenzy of text messages telling me that my donation would save America! Please Noah, please!!! We are getting close and we need everyone to pitch in!!! DO YOUR PART NOAH!!! DONT LET US DOWN NOAH!!! I haven't felt this much pressure since I was peer pressured by my High School buddies to drink my first beer! And we all know how that turned out. 1.2 million beers later, I finally quit and lived to tell the story. I might have had more money to donate if it wasn't for those dam beers! So I can't start donating money. I have a very addictive personality and I knew I couldn't donate anymore! So I deleted. I blocked. I wrote back polite messages. I wrote back nasty messages. I finally just deleted as they came in. Grassroots fundraising they call it. These obnoxiously rich parties who support obnoxiously rich candidates. What happens to the money that isn't spent? Do they split it up and send it back to the donors?? I think not. I thought that I should run for president! Could I run for president? No. Im not obnoxiously rich. Unless your reading this and have some money you want to send me. 😁 Point being....leave us alone you rich pricks! Whoever wins this election, try to remember that we are all Americans. If you want real democracy, get rid of the electoral voting system and require voting by every American 21 years of age or older to vote or lose their license. Then you will see real change. Cool things like free health care or we will vote you out. Term limits or we will vote all of you out. Free education all the way through college or we vote you out. Stricter gun laws (No. Not take away anyone's gun. Just tougher background checks and parental responsibility) Stuff like that. Remember at the beginning of this post, I told you I was from New Mexico? We aren't in a swing state, so, at least I feel, like our votes don't really count in the presidential election. Just some personal thoughts and experiences on how I feel about this election and my excitement of it ending. I won't argue Kamala or Trump. Like I said. New Mexico doesn't really count. No matter the outcome, remember, we are all in this together. We are the grassroots. The middle class. The poor folk. The ones who donate to help the rich people pocket our money who then forget about us for 4 years. Now....FUCK OFF YOU RICH POLITICIANS!!! 🤣😂🤣😂

Pukey Commercial

This Domenici commercial with the old man saying he's been a Democrat his whole life makes me want to vomit and is exactly what's wrong with this state. These life long Democrats are a disease and nothing will get done in NM until people see the light. Damn I miss Gary Johnson.
