I’ve been to Joshua Tree in August, March and June. It was chilly in early March but during the day it was nice. I’d say upper 60s? For those who live or have visited there in December - February, how is it? What’s the vibe like? Sorry I couldn’t think of another word for “vibe.”
Would tonight be a good night go see the stars with the new moon? Never been there before and wanted to see if stars would be visible tonight or tomorrow night
Edit: Thank you for the replies! I will def be visiting and looking forward to it
I will be visiting Joshua Tree and thinking about staying in Yucca Valley. What I’m curious about is general experiences of Asian people in Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, and Palm Springs. Do I need to worry about violence or overt racism (not talking about micro-aggressions because yes, they’re annoying, but I care mostly about my safety).
I recently bought some land in Joshua tree. Can someone point me in the right direction in where to begin with the home building process. I have no water or power on the land. I’m about 800ft from the nearest water and power line. Please any links or references will be helpful.
I have a extra camp site at JUMBO ROCKS CAMPGROUND(From 11/01/2024 12pm- 11/02/2024 12pm). I booked 2 sites for 12 of my friends, Unfortunately 6 of them dropped kinda ditched!!! Let me know if any is looking because cancelling today doesn't give me any refund..
Hello! I am planning a wedding in Joshua tree and am considering the Thunderbird Lodge as a venue. The reviews are all from 2-4 years ago and the pictures online look old. Has anyone stayed there or hosted an event there more recently that can give a review of the property? Thanks!
Hey everyone! I’ve booked two campsites for my friends and me (sites 120 and 124), but they’re not next to each other. Do you think there’s a chance we could ask for a swap when we get there? Also, this will be our first camping trip – any tips or advice for first-timers would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Treasure exists and people still bury them. Not sure how to get it back or give it to someone to find as my property has since been sold 10 years ago and has changed many hands since then.
Hey there,
I've been out to Joshua Tree a couple times and camped on the BLM land both north and south of the park. I'm considering another trip in the near future focused around stargazing. My experiences with the bortle 3 skies in south BLM were epic, but looking at the light pollution maps I seem to have found a darker place just outside of the park that would get me into a bortle 2 zone. Based on the maps that I've seen, if you take Black Eagle Mine road far enough, you eventually leave the park and enter BLM land. I have a high clearance 4x4 and am comfortable driving in sand and washed out/unmaintained roads. Based on everything that I've found, dispersed camping on that BLM land is perfectly legal as long as I'm outside of the national park boundary. It seems that the boundary should be pretty obvious, as there is supposed to be a red sign that indicates that I've left the park. I'm curious if anyone else has attempted this, and any confirmation as far as the legality would be appreciated. Of course, I will practice leave no trace wherever I am able to dispersed camp. I would hope that there would be a number of easy pull-offs off the road, and I would not expect to encounter anybody up there overnight at the times I'm planning on going. Any insights would be appreciated!
Hi I am staying with my elderly father at my parents place in Yucca Valley and a massive scorpion just ran from under one couch to the next and when it came out again my dad stomped it. I am feeling extremely uneasy about sleeping here tonight is there anything I’m we can do? Call a scorpion hunter? If there’s one big one are there more?
I'm coming to Joshua Tree with two close friends for a bit of a sort-out-life kind of retreat. We're gonna stargaze, hit Pioneertown, and are generally just looking for some unique experiences that will get us out of our heads for a little bit. Really wanted to do the Integratron but it was unfortunately sold out for the days we'll be there.
Are there any other interesting, out-there (forgive that descriptor) activities you might recommend? It's every one's first time.
Thank you!
Hello!
Been to Joshua Tree a few times but this will be my first time camping there and not just driving through. Tuesday and Wednesday, so excited! Decided I'd just do Jumbo Rocks. I see there's a couple highly rated trails around there and I have a truck bed tent so didn't want to have to take it down to drive to different trailheads. I haven't done any trails despite having already visted.
Anyway, so far here are the trails closeby that I plan on doing:
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm also willing to do a trail on Thursday morning when I have to packup camp and leave anyway. Heading north out of the park so anything easy to moderate along that way that's worth doing would be great.
Thanks in advance for any responses!
Hi all! I know there has been many posts about this but I have some questions. I am from Chicago and Philadelphia and have only ever really lived in big cities. I really would like to try out a different pace of life. I love the desert and am visiting Joshua tree/Yucca valley/Twentynine palms over my winter break. A couple things...
I am a High School art teacher and would love to continue teaching out there. Anyone work for the school district have any recommendations or notes about the district?
I am also a jeweler and use this as my side hustle/art practice. How is the art scene?
Any other tips? Suggestions? Any info would be great! Thank you :)
Also- I will be visiting in December so any recommendations on what I must see and do would be great!
We'll be travelling on Tuesday and wanted to take the road through Mojave desert. However some websites say the road is closed, but info is from spring. What would be the best road to take? We want to avoid highways as they tend to be not so scenic, but at the same time avoid too much risk as we're travelling with a baby. Should we take 62 and 95? 247 and 15? 10 and 15? Any advice appreciated
Suggestions for a nice picnic spot to see the sunset tonight? We’re hoping for a location closer to the north entrance to the park. Thank you!
Recommendations!!! We want to explore a few hikes midday and we are ending in Pioneertown!! :-)
Going out to explore Joshua Tree my first time during the holiday week over thanksgiving. Wondering how crowded it might be. Hoping to get one of the first come first serve camping sights. Anyone have experience using the first come campgrounds over the thanksgiving holiday?
