So I got my caregiver into dumpster diving with me so whether I'm sick or not, he still hits the other floors in my apartment complex to see if there's anything good. Mostly we just get cans but it averages out to about 150$(us) or more. But one weekend in his off day, I went alone& hit the jackpot. Someone was moving out& I have several box s of kitchen stuff including a citrus juicer, a waffle maker& pots and pans. 4 super cute pillows, four boxes of expensive clothes, tea, spices. Not to mention 3 green bags of cans.

My apartment complex has a donation/swap where the donations go to a women's shelter. When dropping off the boxes one fell on the floor& a pair of black Calvin Klein jeans got some floor fluff on them. (I always wash everything multiple times), she rejected them. Guess I shouldn't tell her that the Armani, Calvin Klein, ambercrombie& Fitch, etc was all from a dumpster 🤣

At the end of the week they took the donations & you could grab as many items as you donated . All 26 items I donated were from the dumpster, but I still got to grab a new dress & cute punk shoes.

I'm still curious if anyone showed up & realized it was the clothes they trashed! 🤣🤣🤣

Safety

I haven’t found much info about people diving in my state

I was just wondering how you guys feel safe diving? Maybe it doesn’t help that the dark in general scares me 😅 but I’ve been scared to start because I’m worried about safety like getting attacked by raccoons, other people or needles and such. (Yes I do have anxiety 🫠)

Anyways I’m in a bind and I basically have no money for groceries and I’m not sure when I’ll have the funds again so I’m wanting to dive just to grab some food.

I have lots of stores and restaurants near me including DD, target, TJ and so on. I’m worried I’m going to get yelled at as well. I do plan to go after closing since I finish work usually around 11pm/12am.

Any tips for safety will help a lot! I don’t really have money for supplies as well but I can get rubber gloves and face mask from work :)

How do I get started?

Oh please and thank you for your experience and expertise. I’m a minimalist and can’t stand the way we just toss things aside and pile more trash on the planet. I’m really wanting to go dumpster diving but I don’t know how to start. Are there any tools I need to bring? Anything to watch out for? Will I be arrested if I’m caught? I mean any info you guys can give me I would truly appreciate. I live in central Alabama if that helps.

Dumpster Dive values

I was just wondering if any of you keep track of the market value of the goods you pick?

I'm still a newbie, but I got super stoked one day last week when I pulled out 15 packs of bacon, 18 packages of hot dogs, lunch meat and protien shakes from DG. Same night I had a huge score at CVS that was mostly makeup and snacks.( I didn't take pix but I swear it happened lol) I decided to look ip the items I had found at the stores I found them and price my haul. Both stores together it was $389.

So now I'm definitely looking into getting a freezer chest and I'm going to keep notes on my hauls and the value of them....started as a shits and giggles thing out of curiosity and now I'm really excited to start seeing my grocery bill go down and learn ways to incorporate my food finds into meal planning.

Meanwhile......I have a thrift dumpster haul I will be sharing a bit later from the weekend AND I'm going diving tonight as well. I'm gonna be better about snapping pix I swear....lol.

Oh!!! I finally got into that Sally dumpster!!! False eyelashes to last the rest of my life....lol. The Bath and Body Works folks destroy their trashed items here. Eventually I might find something they missed.....it's on my route anyway so I'm not going out of my way.

Beautiful chrome Cobra branded motorcycle exhaust found today

Found motorcycle wheels a few weeks ago in the dumpster, now exhaust. Maybe in a few months I'll be able to build a dumpster motorcycle!

As the weather warms up…

How do your dumpster diving habits change? I began diving for groceries this winter and I’m hooked, but I’m wary of it as the temperature gets consistently warmer.

Fellow divers, do you look for non perishable items or furniture instead during the warm months or have a different set of rules in regards to food diving? I’m curious to hear!

Craftsman table saw

Found a table saw in the trash in my neighborhood. It works just needs a new toggle switch it’s stuck on so when you plug it in you have to unplug it to turn it off. They’re about $9 on Amazon so I’ll be replacing it this week.
