Any updates on GAPS strike?

I’m curious if there are any updates. I’m a local substitute teacher and there’s a job available for tomorrow in the district. I won’t cross a picket line, so I’m just trying to figure out if I should accept the job or not. Thanks!

How do I help local foster kids around this area? Back where I used to live there was a “big brother/sister” program. I’d like to mentor a foster kid. Buy them Christmas presents, take them to movies, etc. Does anyone have any pointers?

I don't drink but I want to gift liquor to my loved ones this year. What liquor stores in town have the best selection?

Looking to spend $30-50/bottle per person for about five people.

Most of them have incredibly eclectic tastes and would prefer something more unusual than expensive.

So, primarily looking for where to shop, but if you have like, a whiskey made from crab or something insane like that, I'm also accepting recommendations.

Any local taxidermists?

Title. My ESA bunny died last Sunday and I'd like to have something cute done with her remains.

Our district is out of compliance

Why didn't we buy this curriculum? How are we resolving this issue? I found that we self reported, but I haven't been able to find a plan to rectify this.

Albany to Salem Commute

Does anyone commute to Salem from Albany on a daily basis? My job will require me to be in the office M-F and I just wanted to know how manageable the drive is.

The school board and Andy Gardner should explain this. Please.

(pulled from Facebook)

As I, a childless dog lady, read more into the information on the GAPS budget, I had questions that I can't figure out. My sources are the 2023-2024 GAPS budget and the 2023 official audit.

Please look at these items. Why are there such vast differences between the published budget and the official government audit report?

By law the auditor cannot make any sort of judgment call on the numbers, only report what is true and verifiable. So, it's safe to say the audit is the truth.

I see a 30 million dollar difference in the bottom line, and millions of dollars difference in other items. Can anyone explain ?

Screenshots of the particular numbers I'm looking at. Full reports at the links.

LGBT-friendly barbers/hairstylists?

Hello all! I'm currently in the process of transitioning and am looking for an LGBT-friendly barber that could get me a good haircut. Does anyone know any? Since I know this is one of the more red areas in Oregon I'm just trying to play it safe

Dear Gaps Superintendent

If it is true that you are making over 220k, then sit the fuck down and work on a deal. Tell your mediator to stop quitting and figure it out. All the parents of GAPs can come together and do where you and the school board are failing. I am inspired to learn about running for school board and I am disappointed that it took the inaction for me to start action. I encourage others to run.

Visiting!

PRECURSOR: Transportation is no issue!

Hey y’all- I’m visiting for a few days and I’m looking for things to see/do. I enjoy visually striking views along with local hotspots (pubs, museums, historic downtown centers, etc) I also snowboard and it looks like y’all are about to get some snow in the mountains- what mountain would you recommend?

Recall School Board

Would anyone else be interested in recalling the school board? Based on be other posts, the strike, and the emails the school sends out, it’s quite clear they are only looking for their own personal interests and not those of the children and community.

The process is outlined here:

https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Pages/recall.aspx

I would be glad to help or serve as the chief petitioner for my zone. There are only 90 days between submitting and when you need signatures submitted. I do not care what your political stance is as long as you are interested in putting children and the community first.

Driver of car with license plate 855 KCU. Chill out.

Laying on your horn for over a minute while aggressively gesturing and driving erratically behind me going the speed limit is very unbecoming. Please consider going to anger management.

Incident occurred this morning around 9am on Old Salem Rd.

Andy Gardner needs to go

Andy Gardner makes $18,000 a month to tell teachers their safety and the safety of the students costs too much money.

The community needs an investigation into the way GAPS is spending it's money, and why we haven't got enough money to match the teacher pay rates and class sizes of our neighboring school districts. Where is the money?

Andy Gardner needs to resign.

Unenroll your child from GAPS

I’ve thought about this a lot today. I wonder how it would affect the super if all the Albany parents started to unenroll their students. I know this much; unenrolling a student will reduce funding. Does this funding effect the sups pay or credibility in any ways. What if most all students were unenrolled?

Crash on 28th?

Did anyone happen to see what happened? It was on 28th and Waverly. Happened about 5pm today. We walked over to see if we could get a better look and saw a car with it's driver airbag deployed that then drove away a little fast (about a few mins after we heard the noise).

GAPS Press Conference

Anyone else watching the GAPS press conference? How come we only get to hear from the district/board? Is there a venue where the Union is communicating their side? At least the Sup. is admitting that teachers are paid too little.

Affordable Housing Forum Nov 14 @ 5:30

[Just sharing info, I'm not with the City]

The City of Albany is hosting a forum on housing cost burden in Albany and the actions the City is taking to address this issue on November 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Albany City Hall, 333 Broadalbin St SW and online at at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85798721935.... The public is invited to attend the forum to learn more about this issue, the Housing Implementation Plan, ask questions, and provide feedback. According to the 2022 American Community Survey, Albany is considered a severely rent burdened city, meaning more than 25% of renters spend over 50% of their income on rent. The City is pursuing priority strategies from the Housing Implementation Plan (HIP) to address housing needs, including the need for affordable housing, in Albany. These strategies include both revisions to the Albany Development Code and housing policies to incentivize housing that is affordable. Visit the HIP webpage to learn more: albanyoregon.gov/hip for more information or contact Beth or Anne at cdbg@albanyoregon.gov or 541-917-7550.

GAPS strike

So this potential strike is emotional and people are so sad it has come to this, oh but wait let’s make a fun game out of everyone’s anger/sadness/pain. Good call GAEA 👍🏻 maybe an unpopular opinion, but it’s how I feel. Totally in support for teachers getting better pay and working environments. Not in support of this “game”.
