My grandma lives in the Oregon City area.
My fiancé and I are planning to take her out for lunch/dinner for her birthday in a few weeks. Does anyone know any good (grandma friendly) places we could take her?
It’ll just be the three of us. Ideally somewhere that accepts reservations.
Looking for advice from folks who have experience with rafting at these locations. Our kids have been white water rafting 2X before on Class II and III rapids (mostly II) and it was not quite thrilling enough. Both kids are adventurous, but my 10-year old girl is not a strong swimmer. We're looking for a fun, more exciting experience, that is relatively safe for pre-teen kiddos. Definitely not interested in a river 'float', and wanting a more fast-paced, action-packed experience.
Hey everyone! I’ll be traveling with my partner to Newport Oregon next week, and we love a good shrimp cocktail! Curious where the best ones are!
Thank you!
A fellow seafood lover!
Oregon Bill HB 2928 Streamlines Ethics Law, Sparks Misinformation
By Coondiggety and Perplexity AI
Oregon’s House Bill 2928 removes unconstitutional sections of state ethics rules but keeps the $50 annual gift limit for public officials intact. The bill repeals ORS 244.025(2) and (3), which banned offering gifts over $50 to officials’ families or households. These sections were ruled unconstitutional in 2009 by the Oregon Supreme Court for violating free speech rights, as they broadly restricted political expression.
Key Changes
• Sections 2 & 3: Deleted as redundant after being struck down in 2009. These clauses prohibited offering gifts to officials’ relatives—a rule the court called overly broad.
• Gift Limit: Subsection (1) remains law, barring officials from accepting gifts over $50 annually from entities with legislative/administrative interests.
Misinformation Spread
A Reddit post by user Wagonlance falsely claimed HB 2928 “legalizes bribery” by scrapping gift limits. Commenters like TraceSpazer alleged, “Democrats want to push the state red.” After initially believing these claims, I contacted Susan V. Myers, Executive Director of the Oregon Government Ethics Commission, who clarified:
“The $50 limit is unchanged. We’re simply removing unenforceable language.”
Why It Matters:
Legal Clarity: The 2009 court ruling made Sections 2-3 void; HB 2928 formally removes them.
Enforcement: Officials who accept over $50 still face penalties, including fines.
“Read the bill—it’s the antidote to speculation,” Myers advised. The episode highlights how technical legal updates can be misrepresented online.

Hey there, Probably a long shot, but I'm looking for a large map of Oregon so mount on my wall (for trip planning, visits to parks/forests and general map nerdery). Ideally, this would be something that has a good mix of roads/infrastructure but also national/state forests and parks.
The only ones I've found are 2x3 feet, and I'm really hoping for something bigger. Anyone have any recommendations?

My curiosity was stirred, and I’m seeking feedback from Oregonians.
Where do you play indoor soccer?
Is there also outdoor pickup in your town or city?
Thanks to all with something to contribute.
I just recently moved here and I’ve been binging movies/shows/podcasts detailing the various cult movements that have called Oregon home, as well as the separatist, anti-government movement in Oregon.
Now I am wondering if there’s any good, informative material that covers the racist history of Oregon? I understand that there are many sundown towns in Southern Oregon and some of them were even home to the first KKK groups out west. I’m just a history fanatic and want to learn more about my new home state. Thanks in advance for your recommendations! 🙏
In 2023, Oregon imported $4.12 billion in goods from Canada. This made Canada the top import origin for Oregon that year. Oregonians will now be paying an additional billion dollars to the federal government for buying goods from our neighbors. For extra fun this includes pharmaceuticals some are importing because American healthcare is too expensive.
Hey all, this is a shameless attempt at crowdsourcing. I'm opening a small food store, with a focus on local foods and supporting small producers. We're looking to source as locally as possible, but have pretty much tapped out the producers in our immediate area, and there are lots of products we don't have a supplier for.
Before going through a distributor, and getting product from larger companies, I'd like to find out what other high quality foods are being made (and labelled for retail sale) by small producers in the state that I might not be familiar with. I'd appreciate any suggestions, particularly for unusual products or things that are shelf-stable. And we're especially interested in products from outside the Portland area.
His houses were amazing and from everything I've read he was also a pretty cool guy.
I've only ever been in one of his homes, but I felt like I was on the set of a Sci-Fi movie where Jimmy Carter was elected for a second term. If you look at Beaverton on Google Maps and see clusters of white roofs, those are his!
To those of you who are more familiar with Warm Springs than I am...at what point in spring would you book a stay at the motel in Ka Nee Ta? We mostly want to enjoy the hot springs and my husband wants to go fishing.
Hi all,
I feel a bit silly asking this, but we’re Canadians, and we’ve had a trip planned to explore the coast next week. We would still like to come (even with the inflated dollar ratios) but are nervous there may be some animosity towards us due to the ensuing trade war. We know Oregon is a blue state, and if we were Americans, we’d consider ourselves the same, however we aren’t sure if we’re welcome anymore considering everything going on.
Particularly, we’re concerned about damage to our car (beyond the usual caution one must take in not leaving valuables etc) due to our plates being Canadian. Our hearts are with small business, and we want to continue to support the small shops and hotel stays we have planned.
I know this is probably ridiculous, but these are strange times and we’ve already seen some anti-Canadian rhetoric.
soakoregon appears to have not been updated in a quite a bit, so asking the hive for rec's on clear skies and operational hot springs east and / or south of Hood River. The more creature comforts available the better, would plan for two nights. TY! <3
