The Sandberg statue was overdue. Great to see Ryno honored. He was my childhood hero right alongside Michael Jordan. Two no. 23s.
But that got me thinking, and one of the podcasts was also talking about this, what other statues should the Cubs consider adding in the future?
Andre Dawson? Greg Maddux? Sammy Sosa?
Kerry Wood (specific to his 20 strikeout game)?
2016 team (maybe the small group celebrating at the mound)
Go further back into history?
Tinkers to Evers to Chance (1907, 1908 championships)
Gabby Hartnett? Hack Wilson? Mordecai Brown?
All of these may be too much, but that’s the full list I came up with for consideration.
Yes, the bullpen is hurt. Julian Merryweather(who I thought would be our closer), Leiter Jr., Alzolay, Ben Brown, Wicks, Cade Horton, and lots of other guys that could be in the pen are hurt. Assad has to be in the rotation due to injuries instead of middle relief. Its been an imperfect storm.
But Jed still has to keep shuffling the bullpen around until we get better results. Call Ethan Roberts up, get Carl Edwards Jr., just keep on shuffling the deck. Are some guys gonna have to be DFAed? Yeah. But unfortunately thats just where we are at.
So casual observation here, but seeing a lot of guys take third strikes and generally not seem to have a two strike approach. Saw this great example of Bo Bichette's approach, 0-0 and 0-1 he's got his daddy back on, then with two strikes he's got his front foot down and ready to make contact. Maybe our guys could learn from this - we need more professional hitters.
Here's a shitty meme for your Tuesday workday. Go Cubs.
Yeah right now it is hard to watch and go through but I think that they are very close to a point to breaking this rut that they are in just need to go on a winning streak.
Just hope never give up.
If the 03 Marlins and the 19 Nationals were in last place before the All Star Break and went onto win the World Series maybe we can too
Go Cubs Go

Be excellent to each other. Party on, dudes!
I generally do not post but I need to vent, so I apologize if I’m rambling. Die hard cubs fan of almost 40 years… I’m genuinely curious at this point what we could’ve done differently, because that emotion is better than being overwhelmingly frustrated every single day. Every. Single. Day. Our entire offseason was built around bringing in Shohei and we seemingly had no real plan B. What realistic moves could have been made to help this team this year, specifically the bullpen? Should we have signed Hader? Gave up prospects for Clase? Lopez and Bummer from the White Sox could’ve been acquired. Coming in to this season I feel like we had a lot of arms locked in with roles in the bullpen that are mediocre at best.
Honestly the biggest loss this entire year to me, has been the loss of Merryweather. When we were hot last year before the collapse, Merryweather was lights out and solidified the pen as the go to set up man. I never believed Alzolay was going to have continued success as the closer but that was just my personal opinion. Was his success last year enough to think he could continue into this season and not upgrade? More importantly is he the guy who can close a playoff game if we are up 1 run in the 9th?
To me the biggest bust move that they banked on was thinking Busch and Almonte were the final pieces. We could’ve gone bigger in those two spots to finish out the 40 man but we went with value instead of a big splash.
This team is very much underperforming to say the least in nearly all facets. But we could’ve had more talent on this roster before the season started. 1 bat or big arm could be turning these heartbreaking losses in to wins. So back to the original question: What could we have done differently?
It's sickening.

Hey, does anyone remember Bill Murray doing a skit on Snl, where he is trying out for the Cubs in spring training? It’s was before 84. I can’t find it anywhere!!!!!

He was absolutely unconscious out there for a bit. I did see him moving his extremities before they took him away.
