Which Visa to work in Cape Verde?

Hi,

I would like to come volunteer or work during the summer. I saw something cool online. However, I was looking for some information about Visa, but I can’t find anything about that. There is a digital nomad visa to work remotely, but is there a simple work Visa?

Thank you

BestFly cancellations refund

Hello Reddit community!

We are 3 travellers from the UK. We have travelled to cape Verde and planned to do island hopping using BestFly. However, after paying nearly €1000 for our flights, we were notified that all flights were cancelled and BestFly were pulling out of service in cape Verde. We have since flown with Cape Verde Airlines, who have provided us with great service (highly recommended on the whole). My question is, how should we go about receiving our refund? BestFly (we call them WorstFly) customer service have proven to be absolutely useless and I can see them denying us a refund, which is completely unjust. Is anyone else in the same situation/ has gone through this? What did you do? Any advice would be a great help!

Bestfly - No Longer

Bestfly is done in Cape Verde. They are no longer going to operate in the country. What a mess. TACV should have never privatized.

Learning Cape Verdean Creole

My partner is a second generation Cape Verdean and I would love to learn the language for her and her family as a surprise. I’m having a lot of trouble finding somewhere I can learn it though. Any recommendations? Should i learn portuguese first, would it be helpful or be enough to communicate with everyone? Any information is very helpful!

Callin all critical thinkers!

Calling all critical thinkers and those with special interests!

I have made it a mission of mine to be in every reddit sub for every nation on the earth (or at least the ones in english).

I am trying to gauge interest in any who wish to bring their passion and knowledge in a category to join a groupchat (on the dinosaur of a platform known as Facebook).

What im looking for and why:

My whole life ive been interested in different countries and cultures and the idea of having an 18+ groupchat in which many nations have a bit of representation its a dream come true. Id love to have people who are educated and capable of deep discussion about various topics.

Criteria

  1. Have a special interest in any field politics, philosphy, history, heck even those proficient in film music or theatre.

  2. You can take a joke. Its a fairly on task group chat however id say the only stuff that is censored as far as words go is any words pertaining to race or explicitly sexual material.

  3. You are respectful of different religions. The group chat is very commonly excercising various different belief standpoints and jokes as long as they are in good taste are perfectly acceptable

What to expect:

  1. Debates: these can range in a variety of topics from politics to history to science. And they can border on "heated" but at the end we are all just trying to learn and any oversteps will result in bans after a warning if course

  2. Varied religious backgrounds id say the group is about 65% Christian 35% atheist but everyone in there is comfortable with sharing details about their religion free of ridicule aside from the lighthearted jokes. We have also recently added some others majority of which are Muslim.

  3. The group right now is majorly american but there has been a fair bit of canadians that have joined and left over the three years the groupchat has been around. We recently got some members Azerbaijan, Bahrain, and Germany

  4. Right now we have experts in the following categories

Cryptocurrency TV Shows and Pop culture Philosophy American Law World History Military History Video Game History Meteorology

The group is probably like 45% autistics with special interests so we pride ourselves on knowing our craft.

  1. Each month I post news articles from every nation's internet news source in alphabetical order usually a letter a day. And we monitor and disccus the conflicts happening abroad

  2. The group is 100% male which wasnt even by design thats just how its gone so far but there isnt a gender requirement one way or the other.

The donts:

No excessive meme spam. I tend to allow discussions with GIFS but depending on how many join the chat, theres no need for excessive memes

No posting sexual or graphic material some mems walk the line but never cross it.

No racial slurs

The creator of the GC is the final authority on everything

The point of the GC is to engage and have fun. If somebody is going a month without at least reading the posts then you shouldnt have joined in the first place silly! Inactives are often removed after one month.

Lets educate eachother! The goal is to increase comradery and learm about eachother cultures.

As of right now im wanting natives to whatever nation I post this in (as I intend to copy and paste) and depending on traction Im going to try and invite either the first people who respond or the most educated.

If you want to leave a rude comment or something about how you have better things to do go ahead! This is reddit after all!

But at least for the sake of being entertaining lets avoid repeats so far ive heard

Incelfest

Sausagefest

Pretentious

Arrogant

Red pills

Sounds like Hell

Remember we are looking for people who want to make friends and debate ideas not people who think themselves witty comedians.

Is it safe to swim in the ocean?

Getting some conflicting information online so decided to post here.

I am thinking about coming in December/January and staying at a resort in Santa Maria, Sal. Would it be possible to comfortably swim in the sea (without swimming too far away from the shore)?

Seeking Guidance on Estate Assets in Cape Verde

Hello r/CAPEVERDE community,

I hope you're all doing well. I'm reaching out to ask for some guidance and help with a matter related to my family's estate assets in Cape Verde.

My father recently passed away, and I've taken on the responsibility of managing his various estate assets. One significant aspect of this is dealing with the land my family has owned in Cape Verde since the late 1800s. Over the years, we've accumulated numerous documents related to registering titles for these properties. Most of the paperwork I have is dated between 1887-1940.

I have quite a bit of paperwork, and I could really use some help navigating it all. Specifically, I'm looking for guidance on locating the properties mentioned in these documents and help in facilitating any necessary sales or updates to ownership records.

From what I've gathered so far, there are around 30 to 50 properties scattered throughout Cape Verde that require attention.

I would greatly appreciate any help from anyone in this community who has experience or expertise in dealing with similar situations or could point me in the right direction to find legal assistance in Cape Verde.

I am located in Canada, and unfortunately don't speak Portuguese or Crioulo.

WiFi 🇬🇧 SIM Best option?

Hey, I'm heading to Boa Vista for a couple of weeks in June and I'm wondering which UK provider offers the best-priced DATA sim card since it won't be covered by my normal Sky Mobile plan as it's outside the EU. Additionally, any advice on buying a local sim card there would be appreciated, especially regarding data bundles.

I'll primarily be using it for streaming on a Fire TV stick and mobiles in my hotel room after long days. I'll also have a TP-Link 4G LTE router for connectivity.

While I know hotels have WiFi, I need a backup option just in case.

Thanks!

Best fly airlines not operating?

Hi, I have a flight booked into Sal for June and a flight back home departing from Praia. I’m just a bit nervous because bestfly airlines has yet to release their summer flight schedule and I’m not sure if I will be able to get from Sal to Praia.

Are there any other options to travel between islands? What about Cape Verde airlines? Are they reliable? Is there a ferry option?

How early do you show up for a domestic Cabo Verde Airlines flight? Santiago -> Boa Vista

We’re flying from Santiago to Boa Vista tomorrow April 10 at 10:40am. The email they sent us says to be there 3.5 hours before the flight. That seems astronomically early.

How early do you show up?

Home Internet in Praia recommendations

What are the best Internet options in Praia? I came across Unitel that goes up to 48mbps but it haven’t been much reliable with speed. Someone mentioned the other operators might be more reliable since are used by less people. Another thing I’ve heard is that you can sort of pause payments when not needed and resume anytime, is that a common practice with operators?

BestFly cancellations

Asking for advice or maybe just a tiny bit of information here while clinging on to our last straw of hope. Here goes:

We received an email from BestFly yesterday stating that all flights for today have been cancelled and that they need to wait for a replacement airplane (chartered I assume).

How can we get more information on this topic? Even with local help in sao Vicente no information is given and we are desperate to catch our flight back to Europe from Boa Vista on Tuesday.

How do you deal with and view the many asks for handouts?

Let me say up front I love visiting CaboVerde, it is beautiful and even on the big baaaad touristic Sal people are friendly and relaxed - and I am the opposite of a resort-hiding tourist, I enjoy engaging with the people both local and foreign here and been walking around day and night with no issues. One common theme emerged within a few days of visiting. Many people you talk to, local and foreign(!), at some point want to sell you something, get you to their surf school or whatever.. all cool, I get it, they have a job to do and it's an opportunity and they are respectful enough when you say no thanks.

I have also been approached quite a few times by people asking for money because they are hungry, one guy even literally walked from his job over to me and asked to "borrow" money. In many places with a strong social security net I would not think twice; but I think the split between the poor and rich must be substantial and getting worse.

Supposedly there are not many jobs and it is very hard to find work?

I want to know, what is the local CaboVerde mindset and thoughts on this? Do locals give money, to strangers they saw once or twice? To friends? Is this common to support others directly or everyone takes care of themselves independently? Is there some kind of shelter, social support or programs to help, or they really depend on tourist handouts?

Also wondering how many are just finessing people?

Recommendations for a place to try some boards on Sal?

I have a good week on Sal and wanted to just kick it on the beaches and enjoy the water, but seeing all these boards being used everywhere I am feeling a sudden itch to try it!

I have never surfed, little snowboarded or skated so please excuse my naive question and lack of knowledge, but I think I'd like to try boogie/body board first as it seems easiest and safest, and from there maybe try standup, try riding a wave on a real board, seems still mostly safe; maybe maybe even check out kite or foil. (Of course definitely with instructor)

Could you please recommend me a good place with fair prices to rent and try the different "board sports", and lessons? How much should I budget for the different "boards', very roughly?

Island hopping recommendation

Hello everyone,

my gf and I are going to CV in May, and we'll try to visit several island. We'll arrive at Praia, and the goal is to go to Fogo, then Brava, then back to Praia (through Fogo island)

From what I can read online and around the sub, it seems that getting the plane/boat tickets in advance on internet (BestFly) may not be that reliable. Would you recommend waiting to be at the airport in Praia to do that, or contact an agency beforehand ? Or should I just go with booking the flight rn ?

Cabo Verde and Albania

It was funny when I saw a woman in Praia's Plateau having a bunch of beach towels with Albanian flag printed, the next day I got surprised with a guy having an Albanian flag on his t-shirt in Cidade Velha and finally got amazed few days later in Porto Novo, where I saw a food trailer named Comida d'Albania/Albania Fast Food.

Caro Caboverdians, por favor, can you tell me more about surprising CV - Albania connections.

Private jet owned by Sean “P. Diddy” Combs has left the US. Combs’ residences were raided by DHS in connection with a sex trafficking investigation. The flight path of the plane appears to be headed towards Cape Verde. Cape Verde has no extradition treaty with the US.
