Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) is a small country made of 10 islands in the Atlantic Ocean, 500 km off the coast of Africa. It's home to about half a million people, but the Cape Verdean diaspora around the world comprises just as many people. The islands feature warm year-round climate, diverse landscape and cultural wealth, especially in music.

Hello, me and a friend will spend 2 weeks in CV in December, flying in and out of Praia. We will spend the 1st 5 days in Santiago, then 3 days in Fogo and 6 days in SV/SA.
Regarding these 1st 5 days in Santiago I'm seeking advice. We fly into Praia late on a Friday night. I was thinking to book a hotel on the plateau from Friday until Monday (during this weekend we can visit Cidade Velha, see Praia, experience cuisine, nightlife, go to the beach) then we have a gap until our ferry to Fogo on Thursday morning. What to do? I was considering staying in Rui Vaz for 2 nights for hiking, as it is closer to Praia than Serra Malagueta, and SM landscape looks similar to Santo Antao. Ad for Tarrafal, I also thought this could be left out due to the nice beaches near Mindelo. We're hoping to travel mainly by collective taxi.
If you have any opinions or suggestions please share:)
Hi all, Arriving in Praia today and staying until Monday. I forgot my Fujifilm camera battery charger back home and am in dire need of one. Does anyone in Praia or on the island of Santiago have one? Or know where I can buy one? Thanks!
Heyyy! I am planning to visit Cabo Verde very soon, as a solo woman. I would be very keen on hiking a lot and doing some wild camping, and would be keen on learning about other people's experience, specially regarding safety.
We are here in cape verde for 4 days now. We like the food a lot. But some dishes have something in it that we don’t like. In the beginning we were thinking it was rancid oil. But now I think it is a dark green leave that we both dislike. The taste and smell is very intense. You sometimes can smell it by passing a restaurant. Any ideas what that could be?
I would like to ask if someone knows if there is any small band or singer on Sal island and how i can communicate with them because i m planning to make a proposal to my girlfriend and I would like to make her a surprise.
Hi all,
I am flying into Praia on the 30th of December with 3 friends (male) for 3.5 weeks. We are surfers from Portugal and looking to explore waves, nature, culture and just have a good time. We arrive just before New Year, any advice on what would be a fun place to celebrate? We are arriving in Praia and thinking of spending some dats there. After we want to go to Tarrafal and i was thinking S. VICENTE, S.nicolau and sanrl antão would be cool. Thinking of using the ferries because they are cheap, we can bring the boards and we are not in a hurry. Any tips welcome thanks a lot!
Hello,
We will stay in Mindelo from the 18-22.1.2025 but we just realized that on our departure day there is some kind of city festival. Is it worth it staying one more night in Mindelo and what is it exactly?
Thanks!
Hello, I'll be in Sao Vicente and Santo Antao for a few weeks in Jan and Feb 2025 and would love advice on 2 things:
wifi: how reliable is it in Mindelo? I'll need to do some remote work including a lot of Zoom meetings: should I buy and pack a portable wifi device or does local broadband tend to be good enough to support remote work?
What would traveling from Mindelo to the isle of Fogo look like, how would I get there? Is it worth it, or is Fogo similar enough to Sao Vicente and Santo Antao that I should think of visiting another island instead?
Thank you!
Hi, I'm a 17 year old from Finland and I just started collecting license plates from the countries I've been to. I visited Cape Verde a long time ago and I am looking for a Cape Verde license plate.
I will pay for postage and if the postage is relatively cheap I am also ready to pay a revard for the local who is willing to take on this challenge. If you are interested you can add me on discord (username: pyry06)
Afternoon everyone, I’m planning a trip in January to Cape Verde and I was wondering what the attitude over there is to smoking? ( The happy herb not tobacco). I see there are lots of bars called reggae bar on various islands and YouTube videos show me a few Rasta style hairstyles and so I’m assuming that people do smoke herb there?
That said if I google it it looks like it’s frowned upon heavily. I don’t want to offend anyone so I’ll happily abstain when I’m there but if it’s available I’ll gladly indulge! Anyone know?
Hi All! My wife and I (we're lesbians) are planning to move to Santiago next December. We visited in June, loved it and decided that we wanted to make the move. We were hoping to get some assistance from a relocation service especially for our 4 year old chihuahua. We're been reading about relocating with pets and it seems a little complicated so we wanted someone that could help with our process as well as for our dog. Does anyone here have any resources that could assist us with the move? We'll need help with short term/ long term housing, banking, visas, setting up utilities for housing, kriolou and Portuguese tutors, health care providers etc. any advice Or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!🙏🏾
I will be staying in Praia but haven’t done a ton of research on attractions. I know about some hikes and other things. Unfortunately I won’t have the opportunity to go to other islands. There are no convenient ferry options for the dates that I am staying. Nor flights. I’m also considering renting a scooter for two of the days, if anyone has any recommendations for this.
I’d love to meet other travelers or maybe a local for some food or coffee!
Feel free to message me here or reach out on Instagram @ nukeyhov! I am a world traveler attempting to reach every country. Cheers 🍻
I've been hosting dinner parties for my friends and family for the last couple of years and Cabo Verde is next. Growing up in Massachusetts, I am a little familiar with the cuisine, but I wanted more input. I will be in rural Florida, so some of the ingredients may be hard to come by, but i will have access to fresh seafood (shrimp, rock lobster, fish) and I might be able to find plantains and yucca.
We are looking at a group of around 10-14 people.
I'm traveling to Sal later this month and I was thinking about pre-booking a transfer from the airport to my hotel just to make my life easier upon arrival. Does anyone have any experience using Holiday Taxi from the Sal airport? Or recommend any other companies?
We will be in Porto Grande on Sao Vicente on December 7th. Right now, the plan is to rent a car for the day and try to take in as much as we can in our very limited time there.
We'd like to see some local markets like Mercado de Peixe, and go up to the top of Monte Verde then we're open for anything really.
I'm big into photography and food. Any suggestions for places not to miss? Any places to avoid?
We're open to any/all suggestions! I can't wait to visit, I just wish we had more time!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Hello! I was looking for agency that rent apartments in sal do you guys know some agency or where i should look? No airbnb.
American here. Looking for a change of pace in my life, even a total reset. I've always loved the islands, the music, the culture, etc. If I was to work online and make, say $1.5k-$2k a month, would that be feasible? I know some Portuguese and know very basic kriolu.
Anyone know the process of relocating? Thanks in advance.
I'm super late and it's a long shot but who knows..
I (33f) am currently on santo antao (staying in Cruzinha) and I want to do the coastal trail hike tommorrow but I'm alone and I'm looking for people to walk together with. Anyone on here planning to do this hike tommorrow that I could join?
How do I get in contact with them? I'm in Portugal, bought last night a flight to Sal, paid, but only got the email that prompted me to go pay, meaning, it has my PNR and my name, and a link to the booking. I click, go to manage booking, it automatically loads my PNR and Surname, look for it, it says PNR has been cancelled. But I paid! Spent 10 euro today trying to call their hotline, completely pointless, always 2nd to 1st in line, only to wait 20 more min and the call eventually drops at the 30th min (won't believe it always took them 20 min to serve one person)
Tried calling and messaging their WhatsApp, no reply whatsoever, email, nothing, Facebook, nothing
How the hell do I get in touch with them?
Hiya,
I will be flying into Sal this month. Have only 5-6ish days in the country but wanted to experience something more than a European resort. Due to the little time I have, I was thinking of booking flights from Sal to Sao Vicente, leaving myself an extra day of leeway when returning to Sal, just in case a massive delay happens. However, the consistent comments about CVAirlines unreliability seem scary and my flight back home is also from Sal -- if I get stuck in Sao Vicente, not sure how easily I can get another flight back.
Overall, would you recommend risking inter-country flights with such a limited time? Or better to just suck it up and stay in Sal for the entire time?
