Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) is a small country made of 10 islands in the Atlantic Ocean, 500 km off the coast of Africa. It's home to about half a million people, but the Cape Verdean diaspora around the world comprises just as many people. The islands feature warm year-round climate, diverse landscape and cultural wealth, especially in music.

Hi I am planning on going to Sao Antao. My plan is to go from Novo Porto to Ribeiro Grande after to Porto do Sol and after to head to Fontinhas. I have two questions.
Is it pretty easy to get a taxi from Porto novo to Ribeiro grande ? (I imagine this one is pretty simple and I can catch a taxi at the ferry terminal? ) and later from Ribeiro grande to ponta do sol (not sure how easy this one is) ?
From ponta do sol ** can I get to fontinhas by car or do I have to hike from that city ? Based on google maps it looks like I may need to hike ?
Thanks so Much!
is it worth buying property in cape verde? what are the pitfalls? would it be a good investment? what's the best website for buying property?
Hi me and a friend are going on a girls trip to Cape Verde and are looking for others going there
When I look at Kriolu it looks like Portuguese with a slight twist or shortened words almost like a slang. I don’t see the African influence in it, are there any distinct African words or phrases in the language?
Hi!
I'm arriving at the Airport of Sao Vicente and afterwards going to Santo Antao via ferry. Is there a trustworthy ATM there or close to the ferry harbor so that I can get some local currency?
Which cities , towns, villages and natural beauties should I go see In cape Verde (I'm not going any time soon just going in the future )
What is my best way to get to cape Verde, my closest airport is Newcastle International, my second closest is either, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford or teesside airport.
I'm guessing the people in cape Verde are fine with brits since the country gets loads of British tourists.
I’m visiting Sal for the first 10 days of January 2025. Are there likely to be any football games I can go and watch?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been searching for the lyrics to the song "Mitamiyo" by Mendes & Mendes, but I haven’t had any luck finding them online. I’d love to understand the song better. If anyone has the lyrics or could help with a translation, I’d really appreciate it!

My friends and I are planning a trip to Cape Verde in February or March 2025! Most likely Boa Vista Island, but possibly Sal or Santiago instead depending on preferences.
A few of us are afraid of "creepy crawlies" like spiders, scorpions, and the like. Is this something that we are likely to come across during a trip? And are there any small critters that are actually a potential danger?
I've tried looking it up online, but all the information I found is inconsistent and conflicting. Thanks in advance!
How are these to use ?
Thanks
🎶 Funaná: A Sound of Freedom 🎶
Did you know that Funaná was once banned? This lively music genre faced prohibition during colonial times, as it represented a form of resistance.
Today, it stands proud as a symbol of Cape Verdean identity! 🇨🇻
Let the rhythm of freedom resonate through you and learn about one of our Funana legends, Bitori! 🌟✨

How are flight cancellations communicated? The CV airlines site isn’t very modern. I have a flight today from Sao Vicente to Sal but am currently stuck on Sal due to the ferry being canceled. Was wondering if the flights in Sao Vicente will also be canceled, not sure what weather is like over there right now. Thanks!
Hi! I have my first ever trip to Cabo Verde planned and I’m very excited. However, a career opportunity came up that, if I take it, I’ll need to reschedule my trip to go in June instead of in March for the festival as I’d planned. What do you think? Is June just as nice and fun of a time to visit? The weather is good?
There is also a potential third option, I could still come in March but I’d stay just 3 nights, so I only really have 2.5 days to do and see things plus festival activities. Is that too little?
Me and my girlfriend just arrived in Praia today. We just booked a hotel for 2 nights and then we want to move on to Other places on Santiago. We find praia very interesting but we also made some wierd encounters with one guy trying to Scam, one guy starting a random converstation, insiting for money and then trying to get to my girlfriend and two wierd guys catcalling her after we saw them get searched by the police. I Was aware of my surroundings and it still happened at one day during daytime...
I know Nothing really Bad happened but It isn't very nice to experience this on a holiday..
Are Other places like tarrafal, cidade Velha safer and more chill ?
We also hope to feel safer when we get Our own car.
Ps: Sorry my english is not the best.
I have heard mixed reviews about internet online. But folks mentioned we could get up to 100 Mbps fiber internet in certain apartment. I will be working mostly out of my apartment and not from cafes so good internet in apartments/hotels would be enough.
I am leaning more towards Pria but heard certain part of it can be unsafe? What would be the safest area to stay? My first priority would be safety and then the internet speed
I am in Praia, Santiago and have been to some shoe stores here but they only have "small" shoes (at least too small for me. Can you recommend me some stores where XXL shoes are sold?
I noticed that the shoes here are all smaller than in the EU, even if they have the same EU size, so usually I need 46 but it seems like here I need 48... I am looking for allrounder shoes for the city but also for light hiking.
I was on Sal and i saw this word few times. Google doesn't know it. Please help :)
Hello everyone, I'll be visiting Cape Verde from the US for a week in early February, and have booked flights to enter in Praia and leave from Sal, spending a few days in each. I understand from searching this sub that Cape Verde airlines can be unreliable, so if I book a flight midweek from Praia to Sal, that will allow me several days as a buffer in case of flight delays. I'm thinking that I should aim for 4 days in Santiago and 3 days in Sal. From what I'm reading online, it seems like there's more things to see and do on Santiago in general, but the weather in Sal will be less hot and humid with better ocean beaches. I don't know more than a dozen words in Portuguese, so I'll be relying on Google translate in most places.
I'm leaning toward staying at Hotel Morabeza in Santa Maria in Sal, it seems from its reviews that it's a good value at around 12,500 CVE/night. I'm guessing that on Santiago it'd be best to stay in Praia (but of course let me know if I'm wrong), any particular hotel I should be looking at for a similar price? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Hey folks, I am going to visit the beautiful island of Santo Antao next week (to which we are really looking forward!!!), As we are willing to do as many hikes as we can along our few-days-trip we are quite worried about the forecast. It predicts thunderstorms and rains all day long. Personally never been to this corner of the world yet, so I am not sure whether these rainfalls/storms are durable or just a quick shower during the day. Should we believe the forecasts or isn it that bad that it first seems?
Hello fam, i am new here. I am afraid i will be offending someone with my questions. But i heard from some friends who visites capeverde last year that wifi is not existing everywhere and mobile network is a struggle. I am from Morocco and I want to come with my girlfriend to stay some 3weeks-ish period working remotely and discovering some of this country's islands beauty. Please let me know if i should worry about network stuff or my friends are just ignoring the real situation?
From time to time I try to translate a piece of text in Kriolu, but I can't do it. Is there any reliable translator engine to translate Kriolu? It's ok if the translator can only translate to Portuguese, I speak Portuguese just fine.
I tried out Niutrans, but with the little knowledge of Kriolu, even I could see that the translation sucked
Hello everyone. I am working on a presentation on Cabo Verde and I am interesting in sharing the sound of Crioulu. As part of my presentation, I am using the following text:
"Túdu alguêm tâ nacê lívri í iguál nâ dignidádi cú nâ dirêtus. Ês ê dotádu cú razõ í cú «consciência», í ês devê agí pâ cumpanhêru cú sprítu dí fraternidádi" (Taken from wikipedia).
If anyone could help me with this, I would be eternally grateful!

I’m planning to visit the beautiful country Cape Verde in November . I am looking for flights to travel island to island and all flights seem to pretty much stop in the beginning of November ?
Am I just searching too early or is this true ? I’m very worried because I’ve been looking forward to this trip for 6 months 😔 I’ve been searching like a crazy person for some type of announcement of service reduction or anything but I’m getting pretty desperate and thinking service may be reduced during the holiday months 💔
