I Love the Play in

Ever since its inception a few years back, we've always went through the play-in

We've either made it to the playoff proper, or got the #1 pick

Alexandre Sarr discussion

So Iā€™ve now watched about 3 of the perth wildcats games just looking at Alex Sarr, and Iā€™m probably going to watch a bunch more before the draft, but I wanted to talk about a couple under-discussed aspects of his game and his fit with the team:

  1. While he screens a lot, and often rolls, Alex Sarr is not a lob-catcher. So far I donā€™t think Iā€™ve seen him roll to the rim hard to catch a lob once. Heā€™s far more likely to short roll, catch a bounce pass, then pull up for a mid range floater.

  2. He runs the floor HARD. Young clint capela vibes. If we want to play to his strengths we need to play with pace. Last year we were 11th in pace. I think we need to play faster.

  3. Not a primary rim protector, far better as a weak side shot blocker a la Giannis or a switch defender who ā€œgets beatā€ and gets the backside block.

  4. Really nice defensive instincts and positioning, great nose for the ball. Biggest defensive flaw IMO is that he has a tendency to ballwatch when heā€™s off ball, so occasionally heā€™ll get back cut or lose track of the correct rotation.

  5. Spends a LOT of time in the dunker spot, clogs up the paint a bit. Didnā€™t show a lot of the ā€œattack off the catchā€ model that e.g. Chet does.

  6. Some really nice passing flashes when attacking a tilted defense but not a developed passing game yet. He can make the skip pass read on the short roll which is nice.

All in all, I love this dude on the hawks, but he needs to be brought along slowly and used in the right way or he wonā€™t work.

If we pick Sarr what realistic first year statlines do you wanna see?

Iā€™m seeing a lot of talk about how Sarr wonā€™t NBA be ready once heā€™s in the league, which is understandable as he is a rookie. But as the number 1 pick i really hope heā€™s not a project type player who is rotating between the g-league for 2-3 years. I would like to see him be apart of the rotation in his first season.

I donā€™t know too much about him but what do you reckon a realistic first year statline could be? Could he be a ROY candidate and break into the lineup very early? Or do you think this first year wed be a happy with around 8-10 ppg and hopefully a block and steal a game?

The lottery saved our franchise.

All throughout the season, weā€™ve had conversations on how we can improve the roster. Now we get blessed with the first overall pick and a chance to draft a 7ā€™1 defensively gifted, although offensively challenged center in Sarr. This is Traes ideal partner! A savvy big man could seriously push Trae young into a new level.

Now people want to trade him!?!? Are you kidding me? We finally have the chance and resources to create an ideal roster and people want to blow it up!? I seriously cannot believe that people want to give away our best chance to create a roster that can actually compete.

IMO the best course of action is getting BI from the Pelicans for DJ, and filling the rest of the roster with decent wings and defensive guards from a possible Dre/CC/Bogi(?)/OO/AJ trade.

also, fuck the lakers. They donā€™t deserve Trae and I hate the media for trying to push him there.

Pelicans fan here... do you guys want Brandon Ingram?

Looks like we're shopping BI this off-season which I fully agree with. Would yall want him and if so what kind of trade would you do?

NYK Trade Idea

Would you be willing to trade Deā€™Andre Hunter for Bojan Bogdanovic and picks 24 and 25 in the draft this year?

Bogie at 19 mil expiring Hunter at 21 mil

Bogie can be cut before new league year and is only guaranteed 2 mil.

Jeff Teague says trade Murray for Ingram, trade the top pick and Hunter for Mikal Bridges, and KEEP Trae Youngā€¦..

He said this on his podcastā€¦.

G Young G Bridges F Ingram F Johnson C Capela/ OO

Itā€™s gonna be a fun 6 weeks leading up to the draft.

I actually wouldnā€™t be mad at this if it were to happenā€¦but I also donā€™t see ownership paying for this lineup. Ingram gets $36 mil, Trae gets $43 mil, Bridges gets $24 milā€¦Johnsonā€™s gonna be up for an extension soonā€¦

Revisiting the Luka & Trae Trade

I was recently reading an article that the Ringer had regarding our no. 1 pick position and what our options are & came across a portion of the article that discussed the trade for Trae. It noted that ā€œRessler spearheaded the Trae-for-Luka moveā€ back when it occurred & was the reason why we traded Luka away.

Iā€™m not here to discuss whether or not it was the right move, but rather, is this activity something you believe to be detrimental to team success ? For example, with what we have witnessed occurring with the Suns & Matt Ishbiaā€™s demands (or delusions) to have a super team, do you folks believe that ownership can get in the way of the success of a franchise? I have wondered what our team would look like all these years later if the trade never occurred. Now that weā€™re likely heading towards possible trades, could we see something similar occur?

Is it worth considering Rob Dillingham #1?

Here is an in depth breakdown of Rob Dillingham. I think we should go with Sarr first but I understand looking into Rob.

Potential Trae trade to MIA -- Who says no?

Here's my new favorite Trae trade:

Heat get: Trae

Hawks get: Herro, Robinson, Jacquez

That puts our core going into next year as: Dejounte/Bufkin, Herro/Bogi, Robinson/Jacquez, Jalen/OO/Sarr. I think that's a pretty damn good mix of young potential + good not-that-old players in Dejounte & Herro

Thoughts?

New to Hawks Reddit + Art Work

Sup, Iā€™m new to this Reddit. Been a fan since I was 13 years old (currently 21) and I also like to create art of Hawks players from time to time I was wondering what you guys think about my Jalen Johnson drawing Iā€™m working on? Would love to get more opinions!

Alsoā€¦Iā€™m excited that the Hawks have the #1 pick I hope we get SARR! šŸ”„

Also if I wanted to post more fan art/edits on here what flair would I use? Iā€™m using the image flair for now

How would you compare having the top pick in this years draft compared to others?

There is obviously no clear cut #1 pick in this years draft like others (wemby, Zion, etc). However people on the BS podcast are saying things like the value of #1 is as low as the 4th or 5th starter on a ā€œdecent teamā€, which I think is completely outlandish. Based on your knowledge how would you rate having this pick in other drafts, and are there any players you think Sarr could compare to who have recently been drafted (maybe Mobley?)?
