Underrated and/or floral areas of Piedmont Park?

I am a hobbyist portrait photographer and I have a nature themed shoot tomorrow. I’m wondering what are some of y’all favorite sides/spots of the park that are “underrated” (it’s a public park so I’m not expecting a secret area or anything 😂). Bonus points if it has a lot of flowers or trees and a bit less foot traffic than other areas.

I apologize in advance if this is considered a dumb question or bad phrasing, I am international so not super familiar with American public parks lol.

Hoco Tickets for Students and Guest

Does anyone know if Tech students get free tickets to homecoming games? If I wanted to bring some people, could I get them free tickets as well, or can I get tickets for them at a relatively low cost?

I am not enjoying East Campus and really just missing West.

I’m currently a third year here and for the past 2 years I have lived on West campus. I got housing last minute in late July so there was hardly a chance to swap rooms, to go to another dorm.

I just really miss the peacefulness of West and how quite the surroundings were. Majority of people on East are party people, which I am definitely not. And in 2 of my summers that I have spent on campus, I lived on East, and it wasn’t that bad. I acknowledge though there are a lot less people and activity in the summer. I just wish I could move back to West campus, whether in student dorms or off-campus. I’m heavily considering canceling my housing next semester and just being a commuter (I live an hour away). I know some people may think it’s not that serious but going back to my dorm everyday just bums me out and I feel so much more depressed in the East environment.

Why is election day not a campus wide holiday?

With Georgia Tech having a primarily in-state student body, why is GT not accommodating for those who are voting in their home counties that are often 2-3 hours away from campus?

Shouldn’t a college administration be actively encouraging civic engagement?

Edit: It seems people are getting the impression that I think because of GT’s policies, nobody can vote. I am not saying that. I get there are many alternatives. Im really just trying to say that GT can make positive changes to encourage more people to vote, and I dont think it would hurt anyone to pursue these changes

So apparently Harris is holding a political campaign on Saturday

I just received email from parking service and searched online, and this seems to be the case.

I am a Chinese international student, went to Trump's rally on Monday to see the famous popstar on Chinese social media (he made a lot of content on our Internet) I don't know if I should go to Harris rally just for the experience

Looking for people to go to the Bubble Date Party (Fri night)

Hi, None of my friends are going (but I already bought a ticket like a month ago) and it's really far from campus. Can I join someone's group here who is going?

Or if there are more people like me here, maybe we form a group and go?

Throwback Thursday - Georgia Tech Tae Kwon Do uniform badge

I was looking thru my old stuff, and found my old badge from my taekwondo uniform from 1994/1995 at GT. The club was sponsored and taught by Dr. Speyer (Yes, the Professor from Materials Sciences), and I remember him being really tough but fair. I broke my glasses one time during practice, and Dr. Speyer only said, that means I'm doing it right.

We used to practice in the old SAC in the basement, sharing one of the basketball courts with the fencing club on the other side. That last year I was with the club, we participated in the Battle of Atlanta, and that was rough, I remember several of us getting hurt there. It was a lot more like Cobra Kai back then where people just got hurt, and it was just like we lived with it. I do remember Dr. Speyer buying the entire club, pizza at Fellini's at Howell Mill after that tournament. I only spent one year in the club, but it's still etched in my memory, like it was yesterday.

Tech Green Community Market Smoker

Why hasn't the dude with the massive smoker on campus been shut down yet? All my clothes smell like BBQ after standing on Tech Green for like 10 minutes. He's poisoning the air of the entire center of campus. If smoking isn't allowed on campus, why is he?

North Ave pedestrian scramble - push the button!

Pretty sure you need to push the walk button for the North Ave/COP/Techwood pedestrian crossing to come on. It's unfortunate it's not automatic (could request that at ATL311.org ) but in the meantime if you push the button it will come on much faster! In theory pedestrian scrambles are much safer for walkers/bikers, etc. and this intersection seemed dangerous so hopefully they'll make it happen automatically soon.

Former GT student. How to access old syllabi?

I’m a former GT student who’s transferred. Most of my credits transferred without issue, but there are a few math courses I’d really like transferred that aren’t in our system here (namely Linear Algebra and DiffEq). I got Bs in both and I’m confident the contents will transfer for the credit, but I need to access the old syllabi for the courses in order to create a request.

Anyone know where I can go to find these?

The Price Gilbert Art Installation...

The Price-Gilbert Art Installion...

I am seriously not a fan. like it's neat and how it was done is cool, but it just a serious eye sore. And again I really don't mean any offense and I love the arts and I think we should have more art installations but not ones that detract from the building architecture. Am I alone in feeling this way? Or an I just being overly negative?

(talking about all the paint on the windows of PG floors 1/2)

Can any GT alums give tips for getting a job?

What should I do if I'm struggling to find full time employment after graduation?

I graduated BS MechE aug 2023. 6 months after that I got an internship (it's local government) that barely pays anything.

I just seem to keep hitting walls and can't get past the interview stage.

English Composition Course Themes Spring 25

When/where are themes for English Comp courses (1102 specifically) published? This semester I got stuck in a class on Disney movies and i don't want to repeat that mistake. I tried looking around in older posts and found either deprecated pages on the LMC website or ones that only have info up to Fall 24. So I'm not sure whether the lists are not published yet or if I'm looking in the wrong place

Supply Chain classes for non-ISYE students?

I am a masters student looking to learn more about supply chain basics and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. It has to be a 6000-level class at minimum. Thanks!

I'm a chronic class skipper and I feel like I've wasted my time at tech

The problem all started in Challenge, the OMED program focused to prepare minority students for college life. I had to wake up at 7:30 am everyday and went to class diligently. However, something changed after I realized that the classes don't have an effect on my actual GPA, I did not see those professors for the next four weeks. This program was actually very prophetic in how my life at Georgia Tech would evolve.

To sum up 3 years, I didn't go to my classes. Not even classes that had attendance (they would usually do a Canvas quiz and I'd just check my phone from time to time). Now I'm a 4th year and, even though I maintained not only a high GPA but also 8+ hours of sleep nightly, what was sacrificed was my attendance to classes. I try to think about what I've learned in my major and I can't think of anything because I didn't engage with my professors. GAHHH

I've been trying to change this over the past few weeks, but to no avail. Like this week, I really intended to go to my classes. But yesterday, all my classes were virtual, and I was like "oh I'll just watch the recordings later" knowing damn well my lazy ass will not be doing that. Even today, I was planning to go to my classes, but I slept through my alarm and didn't go to my 9:30am class 😭 (i went to my 3:30pm one, but I felt bad bc I've not seen the professor in a month and someone said that only 5 students attended last class. I just feel bad that I'm contributing to high absence rates).

In hindsight, I wish I actually understood the content and interacted with the professors more instead of just studying for an exam. Yeah, I got good grades, but I can't really explain in-depth concepts of the courses I took in the past, besides a select handful of classes.

I'm also stressed because I don't even think i like my major (EnvE + ALIS) but I don't know what I would like :/ Rant over

Edit: DAMN I'm getting cooked. But I need this to go back to my classes

I transcribed Trump's address to GT last night in case anyone missed it

“Georgia Tech, what an unbelievable Institute that was, the Institute of Georgia Tech, what an unbelievable - I mean it was so much and so interesting and so vicious and horrible and so beautiful in so many different ways it-it represented such a big portion of the success of this country. Georgia Tech. Wow. I go to Georgia Tech to look and to watch and uh, the statement of George P. Burdell- who's no longer in favor - did you ever notice that? No longer in favor. 'Never walk uphill me boys never walk uphill!' - they were walking up freshman hill and he said 'Wow that was a big mistake'. He lost his great uh Buzzcard and uh they were walking 'Never walk uphill me boys' but it was too late...”

Good clubs for building soft skills?

Looking to practice and improve my people skills, e.g. public speaking, being a better talker and people person.

First thing that comes to mind is speech and debate, but honestly i don't really know what they do?

Any other clubs?
