When I open Task Manager in Windows 11, it always uses close to the maximum allowed number of GDI handles configured in the registry(set to 12488 for me). It soon starts not painting text correctly and showing other visual glitches, and sometimes affects other applications.
I expect Task Manager to be stable, not to jeopardize the stability of the rest of the system. This is a crazy number of handles and I can't think of a valid reason for it. Does anyone else see this or is there something wrong with my system?
My friend has a laptop running Windows 11 and every time he boots it up and signs in, Command Prompt opens for a split second. I noticed this and told him that stuff could be dangerous, but he says it's just his pirated copy of Windows.
Am I overreacting or is this just how pirated Windows behaves?
does microsoft windows 10/11 send user generated files to their server? does windows defender send the entire content of a files to microsoft servers? what microsoft says is really generic, the fact that now microsoft is also an ai company dont help
I never got the original release of it but I just got prompted with it, I deferred the update cause I need to leave for the hospital in like 10 min.. don't really have time to research it, but just wondering if it still has issues, this is for a gaming PC so my concerns are mostly gaming related.
Hi, i just scanned my drive with windirstat to locate unexpected huge files. So i found the file "hiberfil.sys" which, according to windirstat, uses 63,2GB of my drive.
What i have read the hiberfil.sys is necessary for hibernation, which i actually use and not really dont want to use. I have also read that it is 40% the size of the ram. Currently i have 64GB built in and the next days i will upgrade to 128GB, when the new sticks arrive.
So i am very afraid the file will keep growing.
Here my main question: It is actually the first time i bumped into this file and what it does. I never ever had problems with it but it its definetly way too large. Does someone have experience what i can do to reduce the size so it doesnt affect hibernation? I mean it worked with my older system before and there i didnt notice the file even existing.
Ok so i use win 11 wanted to know how do i make the settings in such a way that hdr turns on automatically when i play a game and turns off automatically? I tried turning on auto hdr but it doesnt turn off when i close my game

Can we apply a custom font throughout the system in Windows 11? I have seen several videos/posts but they don't seem to do the job. Is there any legit hack to do it? I am realy bored of the default font. Thanks

What if Windows Odyssey was released?
Hello everyone.
I have a problem which many had as well and just wanted to check if anyone knows what to do since that post was no longer available. Im just going to paste because it’s the exact same thing.
On the Home page on Windows Explorer in Windows 11, I noticed that Word files I haven't opened in months or years appear in the recent files list. Three days ago there were several Word files showing they were opened the same time. Today, there were several Word files at different intervals over the last hour--each time with a few files. I hadn't even opened MS Word or any time within the last few days.
Some of these files appeared in the recent files list around the time I did a search of a folder that they were not in and which they were above (i.e., the Word files that appeared in the recent files list were in a parent folder two layers above the folder I was searching, so they were not in the folder I was searching). What is causing this to happen? I did a Malwarebytes scan and it found nothing. appreciate any ideas you have. Thanks.
Here is how to keep the Windows.old folder after 10 days.
NOTE: This does not keep the previous installation for downgrading. It only keeps it if you want to mess around with it, or use it as a 2nd OS for your PC, VM, whatever.
I'm having some issues related to my keyboards inputs not registering correctly and I have tried absolutely everything else. Someone said redownloading windows could be a fix so that's what I've resorted to.
I know the basic things like redownloading windows wipes everything on the drive but is there any other risk?
[This is not a request for help. It's an informative discussion.]
I have experienced an issue where many of my user folders (desktop, documents) were set up to back-up into a OneDrive folder (created by Windows automagically, in C:/users/(user)/ directory.)
I never installed OD, it installed itself with W11 and I removed it first thing, because i don't want cloud-backup, but it left this folder behind.
All you need to do is take the contents of your OneDrive folder (In your User Folder) and drag them into the folder above (your user folder) , then delete the OneDrive folder. [If you just delete the OneDrive folder immediately its contents will go to the Recycle Bin, including your entire desktop if its in there...]
This gets rid of the issue, I had a hard time finding this info online myself, so i thought I should post to help others
How do I get rid of this pop up?
it is strange i have 6 styles of the same font family but it is just letting me install two of the six
HI,
I'm just freaky about installing fresh windows every 3 4 month. but i have to stick to one for a bit ( Like 2 3 years )
so my main question is which OS do you think runs better? Win10 Gets Updates Only till end of 2025 but Who Cares about the Updates when the OS runs Like butter With the Latest Version?
in terms of features I don't see that much, if the Copilot is the feature i don't want it i use GPT.
all a round, what do you guys think should i install? Win 10 or 11? and Why?
my PC Spec for running both for programs on long term is solid
i5 13400 + RTX 3070 + 32GB RAM + 980 Pro
Just got a new keyboard, however my escape key is not working. I've tried power toys and realized it doesn't work with games. I also tried using iCUE's remaps, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong since that is not working either. I'd really like to find a fix until I can repair this one so I can access menus in games again :')
How do I set the windows password policy on my personal laptop?
I want to use a 7 character password string. Windows insists on 8 characters by default.
Local Group Policy Editor > Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security settings > Account Policies > Password Policy > Minimum Password Length is set to 0
Here are the settings:
and here is what Windows actually does:
Windows is overriding my settings of a Minimum Password Length of 0 with the default setting of 8.
Where is this policy set, and how can I relax it?
