    First timer with bitlocker questions

so I started an encryption of a 18tb drive - it is approx 11tb full...
Didn't think about using bitlocker until after I filled it. And didn't realize how long it would take.

Regardless it's about 45% done after 3 days.
So my question is this - wondering if it is going to work as I hoped
Once it's done encrypting.. am I going to be able to use the drive as normal, just by entering the password to unlock and access the files + editing with some of them?
Or does it need to go through the days long process to decrypt before accessing anything on it?

Viewing EPUB files in Win10 File Explorer?

Is there any way to view EPUB files in Windows 10 File Explorer Preview Pane *natively*?

I can easily view the contents of PDF, TXT, Word and Excel files but not EPUB for some reason.

    CTRL + Z deleted a file

I made a backup of a file. Made some changes on the original. Didn't like it, so I deleted the original. Then renamed the backup to the original filename. Except I made some typos, so I ctrl+z'd a couple times. Well, turns out CTRL + Z can happily undo the "copy file" command, even when the original no longer exists. Of course, Ctrl+Y won't recreate the copy from thin air. F**cking god, how is that implemented in that way. File explorer shouldn't delete files without asking.

How does File Explorer decide the compression method?

When I compress a file, but don't use advanced options, how does file explorer decide the compression method? Does it try to detect the contents of the file, or does it have a default method for each archive format?

Can I download windows with just a windows 11 installation media?

If I download the windows 11 installation media from microsoft website and just put it into a flash drive, is that enough to turn on my pc and download windows? (For context, my SSD is corrupted and I have to reinstall windows on it so I'm checking what works)

What keeps you from using Linux?

So a similar question was asked on r/linux and I think this question would be more appropriate to be asked in this sub. So I wanna here from those users that have been using windows (or if there are mac users, you can join in as well but this is mainly for windows users), whether you are power users, and just average users who use just use the browser and files, and you've heard of linux and you've seen what it does and what it can do, and still you've decided to not use linux. What are the primary pain points that you personally have seen as an obstacle to get into linux, or you've tried linux and found that a few things you consider essential are not the way you want it to be.

If you are a gamer I understand your choice of why you use windows over linux, but it is worth noting that gaming on linux today is nothing like it was before, it is improving day by day, and more and more games are getting supported on linux. But I am not a gamer, so I can't speak much of that from personal experience, but that is what I hear.

And I also understand users who have to use MS Office suite or Adobe suite applications daily for their job and stuff.

But I am curios to know other opinions as well.

    Website Widget on desktop

I'm doing project management via trello and was wondering:

Is it possible to get a trello board (a specific website) to load as a widget on the desktop (pinned)? I would like it to load when starting my computer.

I've heard stuff like the microsoft edge could do this back in windows 10 but I heard it isn't supported now.

Maybe this could work with rainmeter, or wallpaper engine???

Two occurances of getting "flash banged" in Windows that should be fixed

In dark mode there are still two occurances of a brief full white screen flash as it loads:

    1. Opening a new tab in File Explorer the window briefly flashes full white. Surely in dark mode this should start black to avoid the flash bang. Simply opening File Explorer does not do this, only adding tabs.

    2. Opening a web browser, such as Edge or Chrome, full white screen flash again until going dark.

This is especially jarring at night. I assume these are related, Microsoft has had years to fix this, what is the hold up?

Why you should never install custom windows ISO for gaming/performance

I had big experience with custom windows 10/11 ISO's like kernelOS, FoxOs, GhostOs, NexusLiteOs... And I can bravely say it's not worth it at all! If you have a low-end pc the best you can do is to upgrade it a little bit with used parts on eBay, cause any improvements in OS have very little impact compared to even small improvement in physical hardware and also difference in performance in custom and officiall is not even noticable on low-mid hardware. (Skip to paragraph 3 to know exactly why you shouldn't install custom ISO).

But Ok let's say you still want to improve your Windows the best thing to do is instead of downloading custom Windows 10 ISO download Windows 10 2019 LTSC from the official Microsoft source or at least internet archive, and tune your Windows by yourself, use ChisTitus tool for debloating windows and carefully disable unacessery/useless services by yourself, you can also tweak windows using some trusted programs.

But why exactly Windows 10/11 custom ISO's a so awful, simply it's because you have no idea what was done to the OS what was cut-out what was disabled or stripped and you have no warranty, if something doesn't work that's your fault because you download that OS. In my practice when I had FoxOs installed recently (probably the best and the fastest custom OS) a lot of things won't work like everything related to features, updates and Microsoft store, even office 2010 couldn't even install, SFC /scannow won't work (with is what any "pc geek" says if you have a problem in Microsoft forum), many commands in terms of troubleshooting didn't work, and so on... (It can really piss you off!)

I am now sitting with the Windows 10 LTSC and it was absolutely worth it to move from FoxOs (never really thought I would say that)!

Adobe update prevents Explorer "pinned" or "frequent" folders being opened. Does that sound like good design?

Strange/concerning behaviour which made me ask questions and be suspicious of MS Windows Explorer structural integrity:

    1. toolbar: pinned Explorer
    2. Explorer icon has Pinned and Frequent folders
    3. Yesterday, when clicking on them, instead of opening the explorer window, Adobe update was popping up saying it needed to be updated.

Is it me or that sounds like something very poorly designed? How is it that a third-party program can inhibit a Windows structured link like that?

Windows 11 keeps "shrinking" my desktop icons

I have downloaded large icons for games on my desktop but Windows 11 keeps "shrinking" them after a reboot.

See screenshots below: I have a 256x256 CS2 icon. When I set it, it looks like on the first desktop screenshot. After I reboot, it looks like in the second screenshot.

The same happens for some icons (see the Deathloop icon on the left), but not for others (see the Worms and Lethal Company icons to the right).

Has anyone else experienced this? I have a 4k display, and Large Icons set.

PS. the icons not having text is not any custom config, I just use zero-width spaces as their titles.

    Icon details

    After setting the icon

    After restart
