I have uninstalled office from App & Features and switched to WPS, but there are still office files option in the new context menu, I have looked for solution to clean it like Context Menu Manager, Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant and editing registry but I can't find anything so far, if you happened to know how to deal with this please give me some guide, thanks.
There's a few folders I that I would like to prevent from accidental deletion, I followed the following guides, but I was able to either delete them or accidentally, permanently blocked my access to the folder, luckily I tested it on a not-important folder eh.
First try This one doesn't work, because it completely restricts access to the folder and sub-files. I need to be able to move files in and out of it.
Second try I followed this one, but was still able to delete the folder
Third try I followed this one and I fucked myself over good; I no longer have permission to even view the folder anymore, even as an administrator lols
So, can this be done? Is there a free 3rd party software that can do it instead? Thanku
Hello, First of All sorry for my Englisch it's not my native language .
I have a question for win 10 as I am currently using ot and still want for a while. My pc is not in an active directory or sth. It's just a local at home pc (my own machine) I want it to not only be password secured. As my roommates have tried quite a few times to guess and or get my password. When I'm at work. My pc is quite nice for an apprentice and thy only have old laptops. Back to my question I want to install a card reader maybe even an keyboard with an integrated one and set up my pc so that I can plug in the keyboard tipe in a short pin for the card and then log in. And if I remove the card out of the reader I want windows to go back to the login. Ik it's somehow possible since my work uses quite a simular system but I think there doing it through some active directory stuff and I have no idea what I am doing in that field.
All help or suggestions are appreciated
Hi everyone, I need a solution to locking or disabling my keyboard on Windows 10. I use a USB keyboard and my cat likes to lay on my laptop on top of the integrated keyboard, so I want to disable ONLY the integrated keyboard. Under the Device Manager, the option to Disable Device is greyed out. I tried 3rd party software like KeyFreeze but that disables the USB keyboard as well.
Does anybody know a workaround without editing the registry?
I was looking for an older version of iTunes to get around a bug and remembered oldversion's site, but noticed it isn't using https, just http. Are they still maintaining the site? Should I worry about getting files from them? Is there a better alternative? Or am I overthinking this.
Thanks in advance.
I'm on streamlining and max performance kick for my pc and there are 4 stubborn and useless tasks/programs taking up my CPU and memory.
I am certain that these are not needed as i don't use a tablet or touch screen, my Intel integrated GPU on my CPU is disabled, i don't use or ever intend to use mircosoft edge and don't print anything.
It doesn't matter how little these effect performance it matters that they are being wastefully run and serve no purpose so they must go! i look forward to hearing from anyone who has experience removing these programs.
Hey guys
I have a zip file with 40k files that are really small (around 1 kb each). The unzipping takes hours and I can't let my pc do it for 9 hours. I've tried with winrar and 7zip. Is there a way to unzip it faster, or even as process that I can start and pause each time?
Another solution I've thought might be possible is to unzip something like 5k files at a time, but for that I need to figure out how to find the index (if there is at all) of each file in the zip
Hey guys, Is there a 3rd party app to repair windows which can basically repair the corrupt files or atleast inform us about the corrupt files so we can take necessary action?
hello. My computer had a virus so I did a clean installation. When I enter my clean windows I find a windows.old folder. My question is why do I have this folder?
Title says it all.
Haven‘t seen such a clean setup since a long time. Office 2010 is remarkable tho.
I have around 30 workstations (Windows 10) that I need to start removing old profiles from, what’s a simple and faster way to do this? Currently I have a list of users I can remove and just do it manually from system properties advanced. This is just the local profile and data; the users have already been removed from AD. I’m sure there is a way to do this from with AD but we don’t have that enabled. I was able to generate the user list by writing (ChatGPT) a PowerShell script to export the list of all users, and some other info, to a spreadsheet. I did go to all of the workstations and run this, I’m sure there was also a better way to do this also.

So what’s a good way to remove the old profiles without going to each workstation or at least not manually deleting them one by one.

Just some background, new to IT as a career and this is part of an ongoing maintenance I started. Thanks, any and all help is appreciated.
I have an MSI GF63 Thin on Windows 10, and it's a great laptop, but there's one minor problem. The laptop uses modern standby instead of normal sleep mode, which is an issue because I use the laptop for school, so it's in my bag frequently. This causes the laptop to heat up in my bag and also collect more dust. It also drains the battery, which wasn't very good to begin with.
I already tried adding PlatformAoAcOverride to the registry editor as a DWORD value of 0, but when I put the laptop to sleep, it never wakes up. I need to force shut it down and turn it on again.
And yes, I can use hibernation, but I'd prefer to use S3 sleep instead of hibernation because it's faster than hibernation. TIA for anyone who helps
edit: I also looked in the BIOS for a setting to change this. Unless it's hidden behind some secret MSI menu, there's no option to change it in the BIOS.
SO yeah, I hate microsoft edge and i am currently using chrome. How do I get rid of edge? I am using Windows 10 Pro.
Is this safe to use ?
I've managed to get rid of much of the crap, but can't find a script to remove ms Films & TV app from win10 with powershell.
Any ideas?
Hello.I have been thinking about securing my computer for some time. Currently, I have Windows Defender plus a few third-party plug-ins such as Malvarebytes in the browser. Is it worth buying an antivirus or is the basic protection I have enough? If you want to buy an antivirus, what is the best and most efficient one? I was wondering about scanners that can be downloaded for free (unless I have to buy a full antivirus) and which ones are the best and most effective. Thanks for the help
I saw one article that claims you can just download the Media Creation Tool to install directly on the computer that downloaded it by clicking "upgrade this pc" if you got a new laptop that came with 11 and want to downgrade it to 10, has anyone done that successfully or do you need to install it to a USB stick first?
I just did a clean install of Windows 10 because it had viruses before. But I realize that my windows is activated and the letters "Activate windows" do not appear Why does this happen? I downloaded the iso image from the official Windows website
I ask this because in my previous Windows with virus I had it activated and I am worried that this has to do with the previous Windows
I have a laptop with windows 10 home edition on it (OEM).
I want to upgrade it to pro.
Now I've seen some video (doubt the information was reliable), that presented a generic key which upgrades your existent windows.
Is that just in order to be able to use after that a new key?
Or is it actually upgrades my windows edition?
Logged onto my ol windows computer for the first time in a year to use M$ teams since the webapp didn't work.
Was suprised to see the ads in the search bar were back, despite me definitely disabling this years ago. Actually I wasnt suprised. Sorry for mis-speaking. I was annoyed to see the ads in the search bar were back despite me definitely disabling this years ago.
Anyway, this computer is SLOW it has a GPU and SSD and 0 things running. Task manager has my Disk Drive at 100% pushing telemetry. lol
I disable it and my computer runs like its fresh.
20 minutes later its slow again and telemetry is back.
What can I do? I have been leaving task manager open and killing the program every 20 minutes LOL
I tried googling this, but as expected none of the links were helpful, all the registry stuff was outdated, and after a week, M$ updated the registry back to previous settings.
Ideas?
my 4GB USB drive shows it had 3.8GB available so i dug into it realized what it was, so i was gonna close it out till i realized 2 drives instead of 1 and it says its "CL1-3D128-Q11 NVMe SSSTC 128GB" so i looked up what that is and for 1 it didn't look nothing like a Usb and 2 its way to big to fit in a Usb, so I'm starting to wonder if i should keep this or not, that someone might've put something on it i cant get rid of that might be bad (a virus or something like that) but again I'm unsure and i don't know what to do with it please let me know, as soon as possible.
PS. I made sure to turn off Wi-Fi and location before i plugged it in, and if u need a screenshot let me know.
Suddenly news and interests decided to become 2x larger and take up more than half of my screen recently; it was not like this before, and it scared the hell out of me when my cursor accidentally hovered over the weather bar on my task bar. What's up with this?
A open source software that can customise/personalize Windows without activation like winaero tweaker.
So I found Copilot listed in my apps in Settings the other day while cleaning up storage space. I don't use Copilot nor do I have any desire to. I just want to uninstall it.
Is it OK to do it??? Has anyone else managed to do it and if so, did it affect anything on your PC?
I have a Surface Pro 7 if that helps any, I'm in the US. I noticed today its not greyed out or anything and I have an option to "Uninstall" I just don't want to try it in case it screws something up. This is the only computer I have so I don't want to break something. I really need someone who's more well-versed in this to tell me if its OK to uninstall it, or if I should just leave it.
I've also already disabled it on my taskbar, though from what I understand it just hides it.
Edit: updating this because I just saw an article about it: https://www.techspot.com/news/102651-microsoft-blames-bug-accidentally-installing-copilot-windows-11.html
In case anyone is seeing what I'm seeing on their computers.
