I am curious to hear from you regarding match engine performances.
I just got my laptop a few days ago and everything is great. I launched FM24 for the first time and during a match, in-between highlights, I noticed a lot of screen flickering (if it is the correct term). It felt like it was about the game loading something. I am using the 2D view for information.
So the story begins two months ago when I was looking for something on FB Marketplace and found a seller for the thing I was looking for (an old Sony Vaio P) who was also selling for something I was not looking for--the Performance Base for a Surface Book 2 13.5 inch--all for the very good price for about $20 alongside the borked tablet portion that had been salvaged for its SSD.
A month later I found someone selling the tablet portion (8650U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) for $100. Found another seller for the power supply and life was peachy for about a month, especially after I downgraded to Win10. A full system for less than $130--not so bad.
Prior to this, I had used older Surface Pro's about a decade ago.
With the limited system and VRAM on the 1050 in the performance base, I got some kicks from re-playing old games like Diablo II Resurrected.
Then problems started about a week ago--the dreaded random disconnections started happening suddenly causing my Battle.net sessions to crash.
I was about ready to just find another, inexpensive machine to continue the rediscovered passion for older games, when I said why not try to Linux on this--mostly because I think the issues people have with the disconnects is not really a hardware issue but more OS or driver-based.
And it appears it may be true.
So I installed Ubuntu 22.04 (initially tried 24.04 but had some problems getting the GPU to work), put in the right tools and kernel from the Linux-Surface repo , froze the GPU driver to the one that came with the base install of Ubuntu 22.04 (550.107) and now I have a stable, usable machine again. Detaching the tablet works (though I just use the command line to do that), touch and pen support works, rotate works, power states work, etc. And most importantly I have not seen a return of the keyboard disconnects--It just works!
So lesson to be shared--if you're having problems with your SB2 on Win10/11--give Linux a try. Or post it on FB Marketplace/eBay for cheap so I can get a second one :-)
Just got a SP11 OLED, and have to say I'm shocked at the battery life. It's only day 4 but I'm getting around 4.5 hours screen-on time, not doing any gaming or video production, just browser based and emails.
Any ideas what I can do? Will it get better?
I'm on the recommended performance plan, approx 50% brightness and adaptive refresh rate
Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me.
I am looking to buy a dock for my Surface studio Laptop 2 ( 64gb, 2tb RTX 2000 Ada). It's main use is CAD, so it's running full tilt most of the time.
I would like a single cable dock that can charge the SLS2, whilst connecting to 2 x 4k screens and have a 2.5GbE Lan port. As I have to access a lot of data on a NAS.
Does anyone know any suitable docks? As far as I can tell the only one Microsoft does that can charge the SLS2 is the surface dock 2 but that only has a 1GbE.
TIA
For context, I had a Microsoft Surface Book 2 from 2020-2023 and I loved it. I'm more biased to Windows as a software. It was the 15", 16GB with a TB of storage and it was a machine. I used it everyday for 8 hour days at school. At home I had it plugged into a monitor so I had two screens but the whole thing ran off the laptop. The only complaints I had about it was because it was a 2 in 1 device, sometimes the screen wouldn't attach properly and it would delay the input from my keyboard to the actual laptop. After having the Macbook Air M2 for a year now, I find myself missing it and Windows in general.
Even with the added benefits of the Apple Ecosystem, I still miss windows. For me it's more user friendly, and I find myself more productive on it. Before having a Macbook, I was on a windows device since 2015 (minus 2018 & 2019) so I basically grew up with it. Maybe thats why I always have a natural affinity towards the whole system. In addition, I'm at college with my Macbook and have a windows PC at home. I have been researching the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 + Copilot (13.8", Snapdragon X Plus, 16GB RAM, 256 GB). I think its the solution I'm looking for to solve my itch for Windows since its the most similar to the Macbook Air M2 (if not faster at a cheaper price with a base of 16GB of RAM).
But my main issue is that I feel guilty for wanting to trade in my Mac for this windows machine when I've only had it for a little over a year. However, I would be using the money from my job on campus and I would get a trade in value of $500 at best buy for my mac. That means I would be able to get the surface for a third of the normal price and essentially upgrade to a faster laptop from my macbook. But I'm worried that once I switch back to Windows, I'll miss the features of the Apple Ecosystem. But in many ways maybe thats a pro? I won't be distracted by my messages on my computer, getting facetime and regular calls on it as well.
I could always use the iCloud desktop app to transfer my photos, files and other things from my phone to sync in real time, right? I just feel so guilty for wanting to switch when its been less than a year. Does anyone have any advice?
im a college student who recently made the switch to the surface pro (i used an ipad & macbook air, had problems w the ipad, bought a new one, had even worse problems, and i wanted a 2-in-1) but the last time ive used a windows computer was back in 2014 i think. ive also never used a tablet/computer combo before.
does anyone have good tricks and tips for me or resources where i can learn more about being able to fully utilize windows/surface?
thank you :D
Works fine but looks filthy!
Hey guys, I've been looking for a lot of "tips and tricks" for setup and especially must haves. What are yours? And i must say it would be greatly appreciated if you are willing to share any videos or anything that might help. Thank you.
hey guys i have a super old surface pro (7 i think? i can't check the exact model for reasons i will explain). recently it was unable to charge, and now it won't charge using the surface charger at all. when i pressed the power button it displayed the low battery icon, and i then attempted to charge it with a type c laptop charger. the screen now doesn't turn on, regardless of how long i hold down the power button, not even to display the low battery screen UNLESS i wait a few hours (presumably until the device "runs out" of charge?). is this an issue anyone else has run into or is my laptop cooked?
I have tried all things I could find mentioned on how to resolve this on my surface pro 11. In Windows Powertoys app, it implies that there is a compatibility issue between the chipset and the preview functionality for pdf documents.
is anyone able to get the file explorer pdf doc preview function to work on the Snapdragon platform?
So, I have the power settings on my new Surface Pro to go to sleep if I put it in clamshell mode when not on a power supply. It doesn't seem to matter if the keyboard was backlit or not at the point of putting it to sleep, it always wakes up in no backlit mode.
Anyone know of a way for it to wake up in the same state it was in when it went to sleep?
WITHOUT the $250 adapter, is there a chepaer option
I have a few questions about purchasing a Surface Laptop direct from Amazon.
Amazon is currently offering 10% cash back on purchases on top of the sale price of $300 off on certain Surface 7 Laptops.
I have the Surface Laptop 7 in sapphire. My table is white so I noticed multiple blue specks that are similar to pen marks. I know it’s not pen marks because I don’t use blue pens on the the table and this is the spot where my laptop would be. The blue specks couldn’t be removed with water and cloth, but thankfully nail polish remover works. Has this happened for anyone?
Is anyone using stata or R/RStudio om the snapdragon surface 7 ? What's the process on installing them on a snapdragon laptop?
My new Surface is having some micro-second error flashes. in the screen.. the screen does not go black, but it goes flashy for 0.01 seconds it's so small... Additionally, the screen brightness goes slightly less bright and returns to normal. It does not happen many times, for example today I had this issue 3-4 times
This screen error is minimal, it's nothing big... They are so minimal, however, I do not know if I need to return the laptop by using the warranty.
Any recommendations or should wait a little bit longer to see if the issue escalates?
I was browsing and suddenly my keyboard cover stopped working. I cleaned the connectors, I restarted from the bio, I used process explorer and restarted the corresponding process, I updated the drivers, deinstalled the newest windows update. Nothing seems to work. I literally cut open the keyboard to check if the flex cable was broken which is als not the case. I'm kind of running out of ideas.
Help would be appreciated.
I have the Surface Laptop 7 15". When you adjust the angle of the display a bit forward (toward the user), there are flashes of white on the bottom of the panel. Like shown under date/time in the photo. Easier to see with dark theme.
Trying to determine if I should replace or will just have the same outcome.
Thanks!
I bought this laptop a few months ago and, at the time, this article (https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/arm-processors.html) was saying most Adobe programs would be up and running by August.
It’s november and there’s still nothing. I’m in college and deal with audio editing a great deal, so I need them to launch a version of Audition for my laptop!!
Wiped and installed a new image.
Wireless card not showing in device manager.
Tried installing all firmware/drivers using the installer on Microsoft's website.
Tried upgrading to 11
Tried putting the individual driver on a usb and tried to install it when at the wireless screen in the 11 install. Just said no network driver found
Tried turning wireless off and on in UEFI
ran network diagnostics, windows said the driver wasn't installed.
Can anyone help?
I’d really like to get a tablet that can run some light 3d modeling projects. I’ve tried to research but all of the threads are outdated. I’m currently looking at a new Surface Pro 11 with 32gb ram. I don’t plan on doing massive projects. Mostly designs for 3d printer projects and I’m looking to design some off-road truck parts. How well do you guys think something like Fusion 360 would run? I know the GPU is probably the limiting factor, but the new Snapdragon Elite processor is a level of magnitude better than the previous models. The main reason I want a tablet over a computer is to use the stylus, and I fly on planes a lot. Working on a tablet on a flight would be easier than on a computer. People say light projects will run, but what does that really equate to? Is there a number of polygons that will start to cause problems? Or a file size. I’m new to 3d design so I’m not really sure what “light projects” means in a practical sense. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
May seems stupid but I jumped into this arm thing mostly because I need a laptop for basic uses and I loved the idea of the SL7 qualities ( battery, weight, design etc).
I tried Outlook for the first time in ages and it crashed at launch today ( was working yesterday ). Later today it worked again.
Another one, the Microsoft Store was not detecting my trackpad left clics. Maybe I should get use to it but I feel like it did not happen on any other program.
Beside these little annoyances, I am absolutely thrilled with the device and I can't wait to use it.
I am open to any usage tips for it or Microsoft 365 ( newly subscribed ).
Hey all,
I recently purchased a Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition with the following specs:
Surface Laptop, Copilot+ PC
15-inch screen
Snapdragon Core
Platinum finish
16GB RAM
1TB SSD
I’m looking for a monitor to pair with it while traveling. Ideally, I’d like something that fits into a one-bag travel setup (so no checked luggage). I’m hoping to find a decent-sized monitor that’s still portable enough for this purpose.
Does anyone know of monitors that might fit the bill? I’ve heard rumors about foldable or ultra-thin monitors but don’t know much about what’s currently on the market.
I am also open to recommendations for larger monitors that are portable but not might not meet my one bag travel preference.
Any suggestions or firsthand experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Hi everyone
I'm looking at Microsoft laptop surface 7 for everyday use and heavy browsing and typing. Just wondering about its screen and how bad the reflection is on a sunny day as i like to work at my backyard.
Has anyone had any issues with Citrix Workspace? My SP11 elite is super laggy and unusable while my old ryzen 5 with 8gb of ram works flawlessly connected to the same PC.
Are there any settings I need to look out for with the ARM system?
Thanks
Hi Everyone,
I'm looking at purchasing a new laptop for work that I'll use with a docking station daily. I've narrowed down my options to a Lenovo Carbon X1 Gen 12 Intel Core Ultra 7 155H Processor 32GB RAM 256 GB SSD or Surface Laptop 7 X Elite (only option available with 32 GB), Black, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD. They are about the same price currently. I'll be using Excel heavily and accounting programs with a lot of browser windows open simultaneously, which is why I'm upgrading to 32GB of memory from my current setup. Any insight is appreciated!
