I would like to try doing some work at a standing desk. Are there any libraries in town that offer this?
My ex-MIL made the best pancakes I’ve ever had.
Let me describe - they were tender and fluffy inside, and both sides were a perfect golden colour that was never too brown. Did I say they were tender and fluffy, and were a perfect vehicle for loads of fresh butter and either pure maple syrup or some great Summerland Sweets drizzled over everything?
I’d live to make something like that this Christmas Day, however of nothing comes up, it’ll be a Dutch Baby with suitable toppings and a side of some thick-cut nicely smoked bacon.
Thoughts?
EDIT: For those that think this isn’t a Victoria post - the idea was that by giving the description, someone may identify with my description and may actually lead me to the actual holy grail recipe. My ex-MIL is now unavailable to ask. Tx.
Hello. Can you please recommend things to do during the holidays/winter in Victoria?
We have friends visiting us this winter and would like to give them a good experience but we just moved here recently.
Our friends like good food, beer… we are all pretty open to trying new things and also feeling festive this season we have a little son who is 3 years old, so have to keep things a bit balanced.
I have an early morning flight on the 17th where I'm hoping to be at the airport around 5:00 am, and I'm wondering if anyone else in Victoria is in a similar situation, and would like to share a ride to the airport? If you have a car I'd be happy to put in gas money, and if you don't but would like to split a cab/uber, that would be great as well. I am located in downtown Victoria, so if you are as well that would be ideal, but if you're along the way to the airport that also works.
Hi!! My husband and my two dogs are coming to visit right after Christmas for a couple days.. I’m curious what’s everyone’s must do’s or what we should see. We are adventurous.. doesn’t need to be in the city. We like view points. Bonus if they are dog friendly. I know it’s unlikely to see whales from the shore but where would to go to sit and watch? Also, restaurants we must try.. thank you!!
Simple as, just looking for a recommendation for the best beef dip available downtown. Cheers in advance!
MAKES ME WANNA RIP MY HAIR OUT. ON THE 2:30 FERRY FROM VANCOUVER TO Victoria and im still on this stupid thing at 4:50pm with no hope of getting off. This shit is ridiculous.
update: cars started getting off at 5:09
If anyone can help it would be so appreciated! Someone posted on Facebook their friend found a box of abandoned baby bunnies in mill bay about an hour and half ago. This person was unable to help the bunnies. Is anyone in the area that could try to help these poor babies?
Being broadcast on YouTube, if you were wanting to watch. Expected to run 1:00pm–2:30pm PST.
Where in Victoria can I learn to Ice skate?or is it too late for me at 34 y/o?
So after hoping I wouldn’t catch a super bad illness from those around me, i have. However, I cannot get into any doctor at all. I am an out of province student to which my own family doctor has basically thrown me down the drain because it’s too “hard” to actually do a virtual appointment for them due to their schedule. Telushealth refuses to consider my face the same as my drivers license so confirming my identity is off the table for whatever reason. I have found some other virtual doctors in bc except I have to pay $50 just for an appointment, nevermind the prescription. Otherwise I call to an urgent care at 8am and hope my gamble pays off (it doesn’t). How do non resident BC people live out here? Do I have to go to the hospital for a simple chest infection?? Why do walk ins not exist? I’d rather wait 5 hours in a doctors waiting room than 5 days to book an appointment. Seriously terrible out there for a student living in Victoria with no family doctor, not impressed. I understand there’s limited doctors as there is everywhere, but again, I don’t understand why walk ins can’t exist then. Due to COVID? 5 years ago almost?
Hello Everyone, I am looking for a recommendations on where to get good and affordable nails extensions in thr city Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
Hello! Visiting Victoria for the first time and we don’t have anything planned for our last day. We we’ll be leaving via ferry by the afternoon, so not looking for NYE events, just stuff we could do in the morning and early afternoon before our departure.
So far on the other two days we have planned:
We do not have a car, and would prefer not to wander too far from the ferry area as to not miss our departure. Originally wanted to do HAVN Sauna but they’re already sold out and I didn’t secure tickets far enough in advance.
Would be happy with any shopping or food suggestions, but also wondering if there’s any other must-sees we should have on the list. We’re a couple in our early 30s.
Thanks!
2 pots of gold up for grabs...
A four and a half storey build causing such an uproar: is this just outrageous NIMBYism or are these valid concerns?
We are moving to Victoria in Feb and looking for a nice vet! My dog is very large, almost 10 years old and nervous going to the vet. We have one right now that he really likes and isn’t nervous to go in so looking for a place that is very kind to the animals (we’ve had a few on the island that weren’t!)
Thanks
Are there any companies that buy movie props? I have old appliances that look new and don’t want to just dispose of them. Feel like they would be perfect movie props.
They look 1940s/1950s ish.
Best delivered Lasagna..Any suggestions??
Anyone know why the power is out in Noth Saanich? House and the airport went dark for 5 seconds everything came back up and only the airport is up with backup generator.
Volunteer work, donating to food banks, etc... I'm wondering mainly how I can look for these kinds of opportunities here and go about actually doing that? I've never really even considered doing this kind of work until recently when I was looking at the United States how everything seems to be falling apart there (I wrote down fifty different factors that lead up to a revolution as research for a school project and I realised that every single one was a true statement for the States, so that's fun) and I'm no grand revolutionary but I understand that change starts in your own community and this has motivated me to start helping mine. I just don't know where to start.
So, has anyone got any particular tips, suggestions or places I could start looking into? It would be greatly appreciated!
I just tried century egg congee for the first time at Golden City restaurant and surprisingly liked it alot. I was not sure at first and ordered a back up dish incase lol, but was pleasantly surprised by the unique taste. its one of those foods that almost taste bad but you can stop eating it lol. Definitely not how you tubers make it out to be.
My question is, where can I find other restaurants in Vic that have different style dishes using this century egg? Or who makes the best congee in town?
I drove to and from Langford every day for about 3 months for work. And now on the Patricia Bay highway. The Langford highway has a bad accident pretty much daily and a small accident more than once a day in each direction. A 20-30 minute commute now is almost a daily 40-50min commute because for some reason everyone on that highway drives like complete maniacs or are just rude when it comes to letting people merge. Tonight a simple Costco run turned into a highway backed up all the way from McKenzie to Thetis lake because some a hole forgot how to drive. Just a rant I guess.
We are a couple with a 2 year old, planning to visit Victoria, coming weekend. This is our first time.
Most of my friends told me that, winter is not a good time to visit but i would love to do this.
We booked ferry and have a car to ride around. Also booked the stay.
Looking forward to suggestions and ideas. Much appreciated
Attractions, Dining, small walks are all interested
Thanks
