Tetyana Tailoring - where is she?

My mother dropped off some items for alteration at Tetyana Tailoring (655 Fort Street. Suite 14) a couple of months ago. Since then, whenever she goes by the store is closed, and Tetyana does not answer her texts. Does anyone know if this business has gone under? Is she just very unreliable?

Solar panel?

Does anyone installed solar panels on their home? Talk to a company today that kinda made sense (24 panels, 10.8kw capacity). They say the cost of the panels is offset in roughly 12 years, and there’s a federal loan (interest free) that covers the cost of the panel.

I can give more details (although I don’t have much at this point) but before looking more into the is and if it’s really interesting, thought I ask if someone in Victoria has solar panels and can share how much they output in a year in average?

Does anyone have the recipe for Thrifty Foods spinach pasta salad recipes?

Does anyone have the recipe for Thrifty Foods spinach pasta salad?

It's hubby's favourite but that shit is like 15 bucks for a medium container. I actually did have the recipe but lost it and I can't find it online. We have a family get together this weekend and wanted to surprise Hubs. Thanks in advance if you can help.

Seeking suggestions for a hairdresser

So normally I trim my own hair. It's usually fine.

Unfortunately, this time, it is not.

I've recently had a pretty bad depressive episode, and through that time, my hair got damaged. I tried to cut the dead ends off, but it ended up being too much and now I have some weird layers going on. To make matters worse, I've also added bangs. I'm embarrassed to leave the house.

I would love to get it fixed, as I'm trying to regain my confidence. However, I am still in a self-shaming/anxious mindset, so I'm nervous to go into a hairdresser and admit to my mistake—although I know I have to.

Does anyone have any recommendations for hairdressers that may have a bit more understanding to my situation? Just someone who is kind and professional enough to not point out my obvious and terrible mistake.

I'm located up in Quadra, but I can take a bus if necessary. I'm on a student budget but definitely willing to pay for the right person!

My hair is wavy/curly. Currently a couple of inches past my shoulders.

Thank you so so much for any suggestions ❤️

✨ Edit: Thank you everyone for your suggestions! It really means a lot to me. I have a great list and a little more hope going forward ❤️

Construction EVERYWHERE!!!

All day, all year round, and it seems like nothing ever gets done. Vancouver St at Pandora has been closed for 3 years. Sinclair and Cadboro Bay will have been closed/detoured for 2 years by the time they finish building the two roundabouts (???) in Caddy Bay Village. That's IF it's completed on time. A section of Shelbourne was closed for ages when no one was even working on it. For months.

Driving Downtown is like playing life-sized snakes and ladders, minus the ladders. It took 15 minutes to travel two blocks on Johnson St the other day. The 4-way crosswalk at Johnson and View is a hazard with that fenced off area that's piled with debris and equipment, blocking visibility of pedestrians trying to cross. (And again, I never see anyone actually working on it. It's like an abandoned project.)

Lastly, to people directing single-lane traffic: WHY do you rapidly wave your arm like you want me to go faster when I'm going 30 and you're holding a sign that says SLOW?

Just needed to vent all that. It's gotten ridiculous.

The City of Victoria needs to address its rat problem

In the last few years the amount of rats in my neighbourhood has exploded. Between the city being dirtier in general and the lack of proper control, it has gotten completely out of hand. I have been working with my landlord to try to stop the rats from coming into my yard by plugging holes under fences, taking out any shrubs and cover they may use etc. but the problem is they are so plentiful it's really hard to effectively stop them. Many cities have their own pest control services that deal with the large colonies on public land but as far as I can tell Victoria doesn't.

Les Leyne: We're better off without these Victoria school trustees

Some people are worried about the arbitrary dismissal of a democratically elected body.

But Godden’s recounting of the disdain these now-former trustees displayed to stakeholders and taxpayers suggests we’re much better off without them.

Only about a third of eligible voters turned out in 2022 to put them in power.

Some of the responsibility for the toxic shambles they created is on us.

We didn’t pay enough attention.

What's your take on partying neighbors?

So, we live in an apartment building. 4 floors. The building housing contract says quiet hours are 9pm to 8am. The upstairs neighbors had a party on a weeknight. There were at least 15 people, sounded like more. We work hard and and usually in bed 9:30. At 9 they were loud so we called security and they were quiet for a little bit an then at 10 they were loud again and we called security again and it seems like they're quiet now. So my issue is, I always feel super akward and stressed out when I have to confront neighbors or deal with a situation like this. It really makes me anxious and worked up. So my question is. Do you let it slide where you live, is there some social leeway you give neighbors or would you do the same? We never party or really have social events at our house. So it's not like we're expecting the favor in return.

Does anyone remeber the “spirit of 94” commonwealth games song?

I have had this song stuck in my head for 31 years and sometimes when I’m nervous or anxious I still sing it. I can’t find it anywhere on the internet. Did I make it up? I am desperate to hear this song again.

Please help

Trying to Improve My Bus App for Victoria Transit —Would Love to Hear What You Think!

Hey VictoriaBC Community!

I’ve been working on a project called Fleety, which is a transit tracker app that shows live bus and train schedules using GTFS realtime data for the Victoria Transit. The goal is to help make commuting a little less stressful by giving accurate, up-to-date information on when your ride is coming.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on it—whether it's about how it works, any bugs you notice, or suggestions for improvement. It’s currently available on Android, and I’m in the process of developing an iOS version as well.

Feel free to check it out on Google Play here. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Thanks for reading, and I hope it can make your commute a bit easier. 😊

For all the people who blame homeless people for their situation

Edit: lots of yall are really fixated on the possibility that he may have been an addict before the homelessness. I don't think this is the case, but unless you think it's entirely impossible thst this guy landed there through no fault of his own, you're missing the point and you should consider what the reasoning for that is. The entire point of this post is that not everyone on the street is there because they're bad, or have done a bad thing. Or even made a mistake. Most of us aren't that far from this being our reality, and that should scare you. And inspire compassion.

Three and a bit years ago I got renovicted from my townhouse complex. The rental market is competitive, I got in at the very last second. I saw a guy posting on all the same posts as I was looking for a place to live. He was well groomed, no obvious addiction or mental health signs. I also saw him in the community on my bus ride to work. Average dude.

I got my place and I stopped posting, but I guess he never found anything because six months later, I saw him on the street asking for change. Still no obvious addiction or mental health issues, just a regular dude asking for change.

It's been about two and a half years since I saw him, but we crossed paths today. Dude is fully strung out, unclean and clearly still unhoused.

He didn't end up homeless because of his addiction or mental health. He was a victim of an unfair housing market and circumstance, like any of us could be. He was made an addict because he was forced into the streets.

Next time yall want to point fingers at people who are clearly struggling and at their lowest, maybe consider that everyone had a story you're not privy to, and keep your uninformed judgements to yourselves.

This community has been really disappointing as of late. We are all struggling with prices for housing, food, monopolized services and job shortages. Have some god damn compassion. Or just keep your mouths shut.

Thanks.

Is there anywhere that carrys dan-o's seasoning in Victoria?

It's an American product and as far as I can see it's only sold at specialty BBQ shops in Calgary and Ontario through their website for high prices/shipping or you can get a 2.5oz bottle for 50$ on Amazon.

Dear delivery drivers: I love you

I’m disabled and DoorDash drivers save my ass on the regular. Today I’m dying of a sore throat and the GOAT Earle is coming to my rescue with drugs. I would tip you all 200% if I could. May your socks always be dry.
