Hi! I was wondering if there are any first-year pre-med students I could talk with.
The past 2 months I've been struggling with a deep depression that I've never experienced before. I've been sleeping 10-13 hours a night with naps during the day. Constantly in a state wear my head is pounding and I'm extremely low energy. The days where I somehow manage to get good meals, exercise, or work done help a little, but I can barely accomplish one of those a day.
This is my second year of university, I've greatly reduced my workload to only three courses, and yet I can barely manage to motivate myself to complete a single assignment.
Last year I managed 5 courses a semester, and never felt a lack of motivation and stress on this level.
I'm transferring to a different university after this semester, and if my grades tank it will severly impact my chances of getting in.
I feel so helpless and defeated, and I am deeply regretting not dropping all of my courses Oct 31 as I feel incapable of succeeding this semester.
To note: I do not have any diagnosis and likely would not qualify for academic concession
Any advice on what I should do?
I’m in the middle of my second year of BCom, and I was talking to some 3rd year students who were telling me that there’s 6 classes per semester. After checking the handbook to confirm, I’m worried that I’m gonna struggle. I have the tendency to become a twitchy hermit when under lots of academic pressure; no social life, no clubs, no hobbies, nothing aside from studying. With that and some mental health stuff going on, I’m worried that I won’t be able to cope with the stress. How have you guys managed to deal with stress. Is it possible to have a social life and be part of clubs?
HI! There's only like a month of classes left this semester, and I'm in this class where we've handed in a decent amount of homework but nothing's been marked since mid-September. I know we've already passed the drop date so it's a little too late for me to do anything, but is this a reasonable amount of time to wait to have assignments returned? There are also no midterms in the class, so I have no idea how I'm doing in it which is freaking me out lol
I know that if you have "with distinction" on your transcript you're in the top 20% of your cohort, but I'd love to be able to cite a more accurate figure for grad school applications (ie: top 7%, top 10%, etc.).
Does anybody know where to find this out for a graduated student? Or is there already a way to do this I'm missing?
Thanks!
Yo, however peed on my car tonight, you literally suck.
One extra hour of sleep, or working on that paper, or celebrating the post hallo-weekend.
Make sure to reset your microwaves folks!
Does anyone know if the monthly parking pass is still valid on the day it "expires"? My monthly parking pass says it "expires" on 11/04 but I'm wondering if that means I can still use it on 11/04? When I bought the pass it said "valid for dates 2024/10/04 - 2024/11/04" which would imply that it is still valid on 11/04, but now that it says "expires on 11/04" I'm not so sure. I can't find anything online that gives a specific answer. I just would rather not pay for that day twice.
I fought competitively before but no that I’m here I miss it. I saw that there are beginner classes and stuff but does anyone know if there is a team or plans for one? Thanks!
I unfortunately don’t have any photos, I had just gotten it. Could possibly be just outside the gym level exit or just inside.
I'm looking for online differential equations courses that will transfer to UVic's Math 204. I'm a Camosun student, and the Camosun course won't transfer without taking Calculus 3 there which I was not able to take unfortunately.
Post title-- looking for spaces to study sometimes among others ---it's lonely being on my own in the library, and most of my classes are pretty small/online so I don't have a lot of study buddies. As we head into midterms, it would be nice to know if there's anything on campus like this?
So for those who don't know, the UVic Senate (the body that governs UVic academics) today, just passed a policy today where they can now revoke honorary degrees. Someone who holds an honorary degree simply needs to "be inconsistent with UVic’s mission, vision, or values" to have their degree revoked. I am curious, what is the community's take on this?
Where are your favourite places to study in the fernwood/ oak bay area? I have a hard time studying at home and would like to find a coffee shop with a good atmosphere and somewhere to sit and plug in my laptop. Thanks!
I’m sure there are many contributing factors especially seeing as how today is the last day to drop classes without penalty but holy moly guys. When you say you’ll post the preliminary final exam dates mid October and it gets posted maybe 3-5 days later, and the confirmed final dates by the end of October, yet here we are, with still no finalization. Plane prices for my home town at Christmas are not budging away from $800 plus keep rising, and idk about you guys, but that’s way out of my budget since it’s only a couple provinces over. I’m sure the schedule won’t budge much when finalized, but who wants to take that risk? Waiting this long is risky enough for plane ticket prices. Maybe we’ll get lucky and it actually will be finalized by 11:59PM tonight, how convenient leaving it until last minute, just like us students! Do not set a due date you cannot follow and if you do, keep the people posted on changing factors or you risk the trust of your students. UVic must be in cahoots with the airports
A lot of people have to ask for the prof to show the grades
Hi everyone, moving to victoria soon and was wondering if there are any job openings available? It seems a lot of places are not hiring 🥲
I was in class in the ECS building this morning and around 11ish we kept hearing this air horn sound from outside? It went off like 5 times. I’m sure just Halloween shenanigans but I was curious if it was for a specific reason or costume. Let me know if you know!
Does anyone know the deal with the white car with the huge Canadian flag covered in pro trump and pro Poilievre slogans?
Sorry for the lack of pictures I was too baffled by it to get my phone out

hello uvic student populace, just wanted to pop in and say Hi, as i graduated from uvic some 4 years ago.
i bring good news: as it turns out, life post-degree is great. i have a good job, time on my hands for activities, and am generally settled …. i travel ??
during my degree i definitely couldn’t see the light this far ahead (which perhaps some of you are feeling), but people are onto something when they say all good things come in good time etc etc.
uni is an all-consuming struggle and i remember it well, but the suffering is worth while ! i would not be where i am now without my degree. do what you’ve gotta do and carry on.
ALSO. aspects of university life are so special in retrospect. being around thousands of people whose main objective is to learn and stretch their brains… it’s very unique and not likely something you will experience again. enjoy. and go to office hours for the love of all things holy !!!
Just wondering if anyone recommends any clubs to join ? I’m gonna start third year in January and would like to join a club for more projects and experience ! Thanks.
I want to apply for the BMus percussion program at uvic, and in the audition requirements there are a few different pieces listed for each instrument. Are those the exact pieces we have to play or more recommendations? Because I’ve already got a snare, timpani and marimba piece prepared.
Do people dress at all on campus during Halloween? Or is it not really that common here.
I'm attempting to drop Phil 100 but the option doesn't show up for this semester. It shows up for the 2nd half in the spring though so do i have to drop the 2nd half first to be able to drop the 1st half?
As we know this time of year is when literally almost everything becomes due at once, and at the same time as exams. Lovely, isn't it? We bet you are feeling the stress of it all, right? And for faculty... we do not envy all that marking you have to do.
Well, the Medieval Studies Course Union would like to offer everyone the chance to take out that stress on unsuspecting pumpkins... with a sledgehammer. Yes, you heard that right. On Nov. 4th from 11:30-5:30 for a mere $5/pumpkin we are offering you the chance to smash a pumpkin into oblivion with a sledgehammer while leaving us to clean up your mess. You will have to sign a waiver along with wearing gloves and safety glasses, and close toed shoes might be a good idea, but those are worth it to be able to smash pumpkins.
On Nov. 4th you can find us in the space between the SUB and the Cove We will have a limited amount of pumpkins on hand, or if you want you can make this extra personal and bring your own jack-o-lanterns you so lovingly carved. We will have a card reader on hand but we would prefer cash if possible. Also, we will have first aid people on hand in case someone bonks themselves extra hard but we trust that most of you have better hand-eye coordination than our accident prone Chancery (Secretary).
Funds raised will go towards our course union events, course union purchases, and a portion will also go towards UVic's Medieval Conference that is happening on Feb 1st.
Hey everyone! Just wondering if there are any filmmaking clubs or if anyone's interested in making short films, or just experimenting with film stuff? Would love to connect with people into directing, acting, or any behind-the-camera roles. Lemme know if there’s anything out there or if you'd be down to start something up!
