Welcome! The Akron subreddit is pretty small by itself, but I thought it would be nice to have a Tallmadge subreddit in case there was anything of great importance to be discussed among our small town

POST: events, meetups, cool things to do, things for sale, crime alerts, lost pets, anything! Try to be Tallmadge-specific, or at least something relatively on topic to the subreddit.

NY to Tallmadge

Anyone here ever moved from NY (Hudson Valley area) to Tallmadge/surrounding areas? Wondering if it really is a slower pace over there, which my husband (who works in NYC) and I really need!

Tallmadge family history & ancestry

Hello everyone!

I’m a genealogist & I am trained in discovering local Ohio family lineages and stories through vital records, census records, and newspapers.

This is the interest form I put together for anyone interested in learning more about their personal Ohio family history. I create family trees, ancestral maps, and historical road trip itineraries based on YOUR personal family history! It’s a great way to connect with your heritage and wonderful knowledge pass down to future generations.

LINK TO INTEREST FORM: Family History Interest Form

Here are some things you can discover from my research:

  • Newspaper articles about your ancestors (Crime? Scandal? Who knows!)
  • Custom ancestral mapping showing your approximate ethnic admixture
  • Most common causes of death in your family history
  • United States migration mapping showing how your ancestors migrated throughout the country
  • Your great-great-great grandparents’ names
  • Most popular professions and careers in your family history
  • Photographs of your ancestors you have never seen before (Found in Newspaper archives, I have subscriptions to several newspaper websites)

I have a degree in Anthropology and have spent several years working for a professional genealogy company. I have been working as an individual genealogist for about 6 years. If you have any questions about my research, please fill out an interest form or email: heritagehuntersgenealogy@gmail.com

For those of you with ancestry outside of Ohio, please send me a message. I’d be happy to help you or direct you to a better suited genealogist. Thanks!

Greetings from Talmadge, Maine

Hello, Tallmadge, Ohio. I live in a tiny town in Maine named Talmadge. I recently learned its name comes from Revolutionary War hero Benjamin Tallmadge, who briefly owned our entire township back in the early 1800s. I think it's cool there's a Tallmadge, Ohio named for the same person.

Christina Hagan Wants Mandatory Motherhood for Victims of Rape and Incest

We have an election coming up and it's important for people to be informed. Christina Hagan, running for Congress, claims she aligns 100% with Trump, and that's a lie.

“I am strongly Pro-Life, with the three exceptions — Rape, Incest and protecting the Life of the mother — the same position taken by Ronald Reagan"

- Donald Trump

Hagan wants MANDATORY MOTHERHOOD for all women, including victims of rape, incest, and protecting the life of the mother.

A little housing help...

Hi everyone. I'm relocating from Cincinnati with my wife, child and dog. I'm looking for housing in or around Tallmadge (yes, we're looking on Zillow, Trulia, etc.) I'm more asking if anyone is thinking about renting their house out, or wants to get out of a lease early. We're on a pretty tight deadline (March 22), are looking for 3+ bedrooms and 2+ bathrooms, prefer a house with a yard, and sidewalk neighborhood would be nice. If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. Thanks!

Tallmadge circle construction

Is there any updates as to when the circle construction will be done? I sometimes commute to work through the circle and am curious as to when it will be finished but have struggled to find any info. I remember the sign said something like 293 days when they put it up? I'm not a local resident, but see its open to local traffic, if I wanted to use it to get speedway, would I most likely be stopped?

Ohio Kubb Championship

I represent the Burning River Kubb Club. We are holding an event in Ravenna this summer called the Ohio Kubb Championship. Kubb (pronounced koob) is a lawn game where the object is to knock over wooden blocks, known as 'kubbs', by throwing wooden batons at them. Kubb can perhaps be described as a combination of bowling and horseshoes with significantly more strategy.

We are trying to raise awareness of our sport and increase the participation in the state. Last fall we had our first organized event with 17 participants. We'd like to attract at least 50 this year. We will be immensely pleased with anyone who can join us. It is a very fun and friendly experience for all ages.

In addition we are raising money through registration and sponsors to give back as prizes to local charitable organizations. If we are able to increase the attendance at our events we have been granted the Midwest Kubb Championship in 2018 by the U.S. National Kubb Championship. This could potentially bring over one hundred out of state participants to our area. The sport has been growing dramatically in other areas and we'd really like to make our area the Kubb capital of Ohio.

More information about us and our event can be found at our website http://burningriverkubb.com and http://facebook.com/burningriverkubb. As part of our event planning is raising money to donate to local non-profit organizations, if you know a local business or individual who would be willing to sponsor our event please pass this along. We are looking for $100 donations but would accept any amount or relate-able products/services. We really hope you decide to join us in a great summer experience.
