Worth switching from Quest 2 to Quest 3 (iRacing)

I'm currently using a Quest 2, birthday is approaching and I'm considering getting a Quest 3, mainly to use in iRacing.

My current system specs are;

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
RTX 4070 TI
32GB DDR4 2133Mhz RAM

The Quest 3 has increased resolution, but I'm concerned that my system won't be able to benefit from the increase as I'm already having to make some allowances to get VR to run smoothly. I have the resolution in the Oculus app set to 1.5x, and the refresh rate at 80Hz. Strangely, dropping to 72Hz causes the Render bar in iRacing to be pretty much full all of the time, but it's fine at 80Hz.

I have the Oculus Tray Tool with the following settings;

Super Sampling = 0
ASW Mode = Off
Adaptive GPU Scaling = Off
Fov Multiplier = 0.75 / 0.60
Quest Link -> Encoding Resolution = 3664
Encode Bitrate = 350
Dynamic Bitrate = Disabled
Sharpening = Enabled

In iRacing, from memory, I have the following;

Left and right mirror, then the large mirror across the top.
Shadows off,

Max cars to draw = 10
LOD = World Only and 60FPS.
Car detail = High
Stands/Crowds off
Dynamic elements = On

Is it worthwhile getting the Quest 3? or, Is my current system going to be a bottleneck and not allow me to take advantage of the extra resolution. Is simply the new lenses on the Quest 3 enough even if I run everything at my current settings?

I know, on paper it's probably not a value for money upgrade, but it's a gift from my wife for my birthday, and I simple can't think what else to buy?

Alternatively, might I benefit from faster RAM and a new CPU Motherboard and sticking with the Quest 2?

Sub $500 CAD setup

Hey I want to get a pretty entry level setup, wheels and pedals that are mounted to my desk. Ive been looking at some logitech g29 bundles on market place that look like a pretty good deal, but wanted to know if this sub has any better ideas for the money. My dad is big into sim racing (98th percentile on Iracing with a setup that costs more than my car) so I've used some nicer equipment before and know some of the basics but I generally just want to play Dirt Rally and asseto corsa without having to deal with any complicated drives or software. Im willing to stock facebook market place for some items if they are better to get used also. Also I would preferably have a road car like wheel but it doesn't matter too much.

TLDR Cheap wheel pedal and shifter combo used or new don't matter

iPad mini mount for Fanatec wheel- what you got?

Gentlemen, and ladies.

I have an old iPad mini which I am repurposing to use with the Simhub dash.

Challenge is how to mount it? Found a chap on Etsy that has a mount but he is based in Canada. Not averse to paying £17ish for the mount but by the time you add shipping and tax we are not far short of £40…

So. Anyone wish to share how they have circumnavigated this particular challenge?

Thanks.

Sim racing cockpit recommendations

Hey everyone! So I’ve been looking for a sim racing cockpit that I can use for obviously sim racing but also something that I can use as just a regular gaming seat for work as well as gaming. Basically what I’m getting at is my pc is not a strictly sim racing pc as I use it for work and other gaming. My budget is preferably under $400. I need something that can handle up to 20nm of force. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thank you!!

Sim Racing Beginner

Hi,

I am going to be new to the sim racing community and I live in the Philippines. I know Fanatec is in a mess right now but I really do love their products - visually and its cross-compatibility with consoles. I also know that they do not ship.

Can anybody point me in the right direction on the easiest and fastest way to purchase these Fanatec products?

beginner racing sim setup

I’ve been looking at different wheels , bases etc (btw im in the UK so take in to account shipping prices) and I have seen about the cammus c5 which seems like an affordable dd wheel where i dont feel like I am wasting money incase i dont always use it. What other options should I consider , I have looked at fanatec r2r bundle but I dont know if I want to spend that much money on something I dont know if I am going to use even tho I already play sim racing just on a controller, anyway Ill stop the waffle. Any tips?

Real-Life Racing Video Games list (47 currently). Help improve please! (Steam)

Hi all,

I am trying to build a comprehensive list of Video games based on Real-Life motorsports.

So far in the bottom you can see the list I currently have made.

What did I miss?

Which games?

Which motorsport disciplines?

Rules are very simple:

  1. Real-life motorsports;

  2. Reasonable videogame, not shitty ones which have only loud name;

  3. Must be present on Steam as Game or DLC. Exclusion only for something really outstanding. And yes, game may be out of sales. But should be present on steam at any point of time in the past.

Thanks for your assistance.

I bought this second hand Simagic wheel. What’s the difference to the Fanatec GT3 wheel? They look very similar.

4-5 inch spacer for vesa?

Hey everyone. Looking for some input on how to get my monitor closer to the front edge of the moza base.

This is a Simlab gt evo 1. There’s a piece of 8020 that bolts to the back of the horizontal strut that holds the steering wheel deck.

Would appreciate your help. Thanks for reading.

finally the rig is here!

Now all that's left is for the seat to arrive on Monday.

Do you have any single screen recommendations? Unfortunately the Odyssey G9 doesn't fit.

Seatmover vs 4 post actuator motion rig - anyone tried both extensively?

I made the mistake of trying a big 6 dof motion rig yesterday. While the rig itself wasn't tuned to my liking, even at the lowest settings, I did get used to it during my hour of testing and when I got back to my own rig I found I missed the sensations from the motion.

Now of course I don't have space (or the money) for a giant 6 dof motion rig at home, but I do have the budget for either a seat mover ( 2 dof, probably the NLR V3 as they are available locally) or a 4 post 3 dof actuator design like the SimRacing SR2 or Qubic QS-210. My monitors are triple 48" so they will be stationary, not attached to the rig.

Has anyone had extensive experience with both types of motion systems? I am super curious as to what will give me the most info about my driving, combined with some fun immersion. My main goals are, in prioritised order:

  1. Getting a good feel for grip, and of course loss of grip. Do these systems provide good sensations for when you are loosing traction on the front or rear?
  2. Getting a good feel for braking intensity.
  3. Immersion / fun. I think either system will be fun so I'm not super worried about this but nice to hear peoples thoughts :)

All feedback is welcome! As additional info, my rig is a 80x40mm alu profile rig I built myself, I've got a Buttkicker Gamer Pro, and a Simagic haptic unit on my VX-Pro brake pedal, and Asetek Invicta wheelbase. Motion is really all I'm missing 😅

Creating my very own racing wheel and pedals (no FFB)

I'm trying to create an Racing wheel which I can mount on a platform and I'll be using my mobile as steering wheel with Vjoy app connected to PC, I've tried it out in F122 it works great and I can also use my game controller with it as well. So thing is I want to use the game controller trigger buttons as Pedals and mobile as steering wheel.

If anyone has done this or even tried out please provide me with some guidance.

How much torque do I really need vol. 500

This question gets asked every day, but I feel all the answers lack objectivity or actual knowledge on how FFB in popular sims works. I'm trying to decide between Moza R9 and R12 specifically.

What kind of values does the FFB output from games to the wheel drivers actually consist of? What is the range? Dialing wheel torque forward and back, how does it scale? Does it get compressed? How? Does it work differently when adjusted ingame vs. wheel settings?

Furthermore, how precisely does that output get translated to actual torque felt at the wheel?

Is it like upscaling a low resolution image - past a certain point, you dont really get any new information? What is that point?

1200€ for Base (+Hardware) and Wheel

Hey guys, i am thinking about to update from my T150 to something serious around 10 to 15NM but i am a bit undecided. I am open for your suggestions but there are 2 companies i don't want to buy: Moza and Cammus.

1)VRS directfore + gt neo 2) Simagic alpha + gt neo 3) Asetek Prima + gt neo.

Which one would you choose and what about the other costs for mounting hardware to a alu rig and qr etc?

Do try the ‘Wind Simulator’ if you suffer from VR motion sickness, really

I know this has been mentioned in a few other topics but definitely not talked about enough. I usually do not tend to experience any motion sickness at high FPS, real 90 or 120, however, drop me to 45/90 or 60/120 SSW, and I’ll have a headache and sweats within a couple of minutes. Recently, I’ve installed a 2-fan setup onto my rig and got it all running via Simhub in AC, which is my primary sim, and got it tuned to run perfectly smooth at 120. It 100% gave an additional dimension to the immersion factor, but that was about it.

Since I already got myself into the tinkering mindset, I’ve reinstalled AMS2 to give it another go to see if the situation with the dreaded flickering/aliased shadows improved in any of the recent patches. Ended up pushing everything to max and SS the hell out of it and ran a few laps around Nordschleife in permanent 45/90 SSW (the answer is no, they are still a nightmare to look at...). Usually, I would be done by the end of lap 1 with sweats. This time though, with the wind sim running, no problems whatsoever. It just does something to the brain to trick it even further...

Really, give this a try, especially since you can DIY it for way less than $100. This may be especially beneficial to people running at 72/80 FPS

Play with pedals with only one foot?

Hi!!! I have a cronic lesion on the left foot. Im able to drive IRL but on the end of the day ( I work in ambulance and usually drives ) my left foot "shift" pains a lot.

IRL im only using the right foot for brake and gas. But in pics and videos im ever watching that the people brakes with the left foot on simracing games.

My question is... Can I play simracing with pedals like Fanatec CSL pedal and only use the right foot for gas and brake and shift only with gear shift ( hands ) ???

Thanks in advance and sorry for my english Im from Spain!

Gear drive to Direct Drive

Hello simracers

I happened to see someone saying that DD is not that big of a deal and just more/faster torque.

I aksed him if he could go back to a G29 and he said if he knew that from the start he would probably be fine with it.

I have heard that kind of thing many times,for example about fast refresh rate monitors are not that big of a deal but then when they use a 60hz its feels slow and terrible.

So i think it would be the same,even if someone is unimpressed with a DD going back to gear drive is gonna feel coggy,weak and slow.

Im gonna upgrade from T150 to SM alpha and totally skip mid range.

I prefer to keep my expectations low and if it blows my mind that a bonus.

What i really what is communication with the sim.

I prefer to see it as a tool and not some magic toy that will entertain me because i pay big cash.

I wanna hear more people opinions on it.

Those of you that have DD,how would you feel going back to a gear drive system?

Would you think DD are overhyped or they are incredible and everyone who can afford them should buy them?

Also mind that sim racing is a weak link based experience.You may have the best wheel/pedals but if you seating position isnt comfortable and ergonomics are bad you are not going to get the full potencial of you pedals

or you may have single screen/low FPS and things may not be optimal

.

So mind that all of that are perfect is a Direct Drive that big of an upgrade?

Instant casual races?

Ok so I'm looking for some instant casual racing in either of the following games:

preferably: AC with RSS/VRC mods, RF2, LMU

okay with: ACC, AMS2

Casual means preferably unranked for fun, I don't want to overthink my lap times, safety ratings... no league racing.. maybe at some point later on

I'm looking for a way to quickly join a session, whenever I have time during weekends, eg. not 4 days from now.

What I have found:

- AMS2 servers are empty

- AC CM server browser are 85% Nordschleife (you could kill me I would still never understand) and the content is vanilla

- LFM AC rookie servers are an option but it's essentially 2 race variations a week (MX5 meh, 296 GT3)

There are dozens of online matchmaking services, is there any particular one which would be useful for me? Any Discord channels?

G29 Shaking

Hello, I’m currently having issues with my Logitech G29 with I believe is the centre gearing? I’m not very familiar with the steering wheel since I did purchase it only a couple weeks ago and it did work perfectly fine before this problem. Essentially what’s happening is every time I try to turn left the steering wheel tries to centre? I have a video of it happening if anyone would like to watch it happen but I’ve tried multiple solutions but it doesn’t seem to work out. If anyone had the same problem I’d very much appreciate your solution

20X20 OR 40X40

Hello i will build a wheel stand rig to put my simagic alpha 15NM.

Wheel stand rig i mean a normal rig without the seat mount,half rig and attach it to my chair with gymnastic rings straps.

I dont have dedicated space for it so i will store it when not in use in my closet.

I want it to be as light as possible but also sturdy enough for the alpha and pedals.

Will a 20x20 aluminium extrusion be sturdy enough or i need something like 30x30 40x40?

Also its cheaper that way and that a bonus.

For the wheel mount i will use a 4020,the parallel series extrusion.

What 80/20 rigs are good for tall people?

I’m 6’2” (188cm) so adjustability and ergonomics are important. My current rig does not offer much of those, nor is it comfortable so it’s time to replace it. Rigidity is also important because I have a DD wheel and a load cell brake, and I’ve read that 80/20 is the way to go for that. Monitor mounting and a seat that doesn’t flex under braking are desired as well. I am in the US.

iRacing voucher

Hello, does anybody know how can I get an iRacing voucher for 3 months like on Fanatec site for 1 Euro?

That's the only one i've seen but I need to buy something from there, also I don't have any fanatec products and my budget won't allow me to pay 600 euros for a wheel 😶‍🌫️

Any answer and help is greatly appreciated !

I recently bought this for my first rig from PB Tech for just under $500 NZD, and i'm currently waiting for it to come in the mail. Can anyone tell me if its any good or not? The brand in question is called LUMI.
