Jobs in red deer

Hey guys I'm 26, I have about 12-14 years experience in just about everything. I lived in Ontario for a bit, but due to family abuse I was forced to come back to alberta. I've been staying with my sister for about 2 months, and I can't find ant work at all. I really love working with people/customer service. But most of my experience is in labor. Any help would be appreciated as I am probably gonna be homeless soon if I don't find work.

Ps. I have tickets, like whimis, H2S, Cso, first aid.

Powerline Tech Apprenticeships

I was wondering if anyone knew about the best places to ask around to start an apprenticeship. As far as I understand I need to do some classroom work before I start but was hoping to find a sponsor for that so I have guaranteed work afterward. Thanks for any suggestions.

Poor reception on 880 CHED at night

Noticed since the change from 630 that I just can't get the signal in my vehicle at night. Fine during the day but once oilers games come on, fuzzy and some other feed is more prominent. All other programmed stations are fine. Any one else?

Student pilots/pilots in Red Deer?

I’m starting my flight training this summer and I’m just curious if there’s any fellow student pilots/pilots in Red Deer? I’m going to Sky Wings, which i’m assuming majority in Red Deer would be. Just want to make some friends and talk aviation with some like-minded people!

Dog Recommendation

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find a yard / guard dog? We have a business in town with a fenced yard that keeps getting broken into and would like to curb the behavior. We have one lovely male that is currently taking on the task by himself but would love to get him a partner to help out and keep him company. We've looked at numerous shelters and rescues but most are short haired and not suited for outdoor living or just big snuggle butts lol Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Red Deer District Chamber calls for reduced city expenses ahead of budget debate

The Red Deer District Chamber is responding to the City of Red Deer’s 2025 Draft Budget with a call to reduce tax supported operational expenses by three per cent.

Chamber representatives say this recommendation represents a balanced approach that acknowledges the “significant” amount of work the city could do to improve efficiency and manage costs; A three per cent reduction would save about $9-10 million, says the Chamber.

“We have looked closely at the city’s financial position for 2025 and believe it is essential to consider further expense reductions alongside property tax increases,” says Chamber CEO Scott Robinson. “The City of Red Deer faces a significant deficit, as revenues have fallen short of expenses over the past few years. While we agree that the city must address this imbalance and reduce its reliance on reserves and utility dividends to balance the budget, we believe that the full financial burden should not fall solely on taxpayers and property owners.”

A recent survey distributed to Chamber members found that they see it as crucial for the city to review its services and the costs associated with delivering them. Nearly 52 per cent of respondents wanted to see the city implement alternative ways of doing business as a way to reduce the deficit.

The survey also asked how a potential double digit tax increase would impact their businesses, and about 64 per cent of respondents said it would result in “significantly increased operating costs.”

“We believe a balanced approach is both reasonable and necessary. By reducing operational expenses by 3 per cent, the city could save taxpayers approximately $9-10 million, which would, in turn, make any necessary tax increase more manageable this budget year,” Robinson explains.

Overall, Chamber officials say the business community is clearly communicating that a double-digit tax increase is not sustainable and would significantly impact the ability of some businesses to operate and thrive within the city.

Red Deer In Autumn

Within five minutes of anywhere in the city, you can be surrounded by nature like this.

We recently discovered Maskepetoon Park, which may be a new favourite area of Red Deer. You can see moose, deer, and busy beavers and walk across the wooden boardwalks leading through the forest.

The only drawback was the noise from nearby Highway II.

Year round RV park

Anybody have any suggestions for a year round rv park in the red deer area? Not to picky with location, just has to be in the general area. A family member is looking to live in their 30' 5th wheel to be around their son. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Beef Sausage

There was a seller in the Red Deer Farmer's Market (the large building out by Costco) that sold frozen beef and bison sausages. Apparently they are not there anymore. I looked through my freezer hoping I had an old package with the name of their farm on it... but no joy.

Anyone know who they are?

Here there everywhere, those darn inflatables

To take your minds off what’s going on south of Canada today, what about inflatables? We just got past the horror of Halloween with yards full of floating pumpkins, witches and skeletons. Ugh! They are so awful. I don’t understand the appeal. Big plastic things. Now people are scrambling to put up giant Santas. Am I just a big Scrooge or does anyone else dislike them as much as I do? 🎅🏽🙈⛄️
