I just moved in to a house in April, down from Calgary.
I am trying to find the shutoff valves for my two outdoor garden hoses but can't seem to find them. I've traced the lines as best as I can (developed basement) but can't seem to find any outdoor isolation valves.
I asked a few people around here, and they told me it's not common to have those in Medicine Hat.
Is this true? I don't want my water lines bursting when it freezes outside, and the previous homeowners aren't responding to messages.
*Edit: Thanks for the responses, all. Sounds like isolation valves inside the house just aren't all that common down here.
Don’t get me wrong, I use the footpath every day but it’s almost ridiculously wide and the street is super narrow for a fairly busy street. Particularly right at the top of the hill is cramped and it seems like it will get clogged up very easily. It seems like it’ll be especially difficult for emergency services to get through, especially something long like a firetruck.
Meanwhile the sidewalk is much wider than it really needs to be- you could easily fit a whole group of people side by side.
I like the idea of making the path nicer, it was probably overdue, but why so dang w i d e
Also, it seems like they have a lot of construction left to do and the snow will most likely be here soon. They are pretty lucky it hasn’t yet.
Earlier this week in city clownsil, Insufferable 8 member Cassi Hider absolutely teed off on anyone who who dared seek information on council or administration.
In a budget discussion she took a side-road and unleashed a barrage of opinions on both media and private individuals asking for further clarification on city finances in the form of FOIP requests.
Hider, who on her election website and interviews (https://chatnewstoday.ca/listing/cassi-hider/ ), promised better communication between residents & council. So clearly her lack of sincerity was on full display.
Reminder: FOIP requests are the public’s safeguard against corruption. They are legal, they’re important, and they are vital for accountability.
But does she care? Seemingly not.
The Bow Theatre (in Bow Island, AB - home of Noeline Hofmann!) is having a show with Blake Berglund, Belle Plaine & Lachlan Neville. Swing out for an evening of live music (professional sound & light techs)! Tix are only $31. Drinks cheap at $5 too. Westernseer.eventbrite.ca
Any recommendations? Looking for a female masseuse + cupping if needed
Is there any companies or clubs in Medicine Hat that will collect electronics from a business for e-recyling?
Has anyone had any problems with people creeping in, on, around their properties in Wildrose trailer park?
Does anyone have experience with Dr Turenne? Bedside manner? Seems easy to book appts with,l (Medeo, video appts etc) and quite readily available with walk in times as well. Curious on your experience?
Looking to have a couple 2ft retaining walls built in the spring (assuming it’s too late this season with the cold).
Does anyone remember that like Christian Rock band that came to schools in like the 2000’s they had a name that kind of sounded like Jojoba and an album that had a cow on it???
This is driving me crazy!!!
Long story short, a close relative of mine may be moving into a facility. I'll be assisting with cleaning out their apartment as they won't be needing to bring much with them when they move.
Are there organizations that will pick up large amount of donations? Furniture, kitchenware, clothing etc?
I'll be looking to assist on selling as much as I can before donating to help this family member out with funds. It would be nice to help out an organization out that directly helps folks in need out.
Cheers all
Hi folks,
I've just arrived in the city for a 4 month work stint and in the apartment complex Airbnb I'm staying at the onsite maintenance man is a hoarder. This has me pretty concerned for all the obvious reasons and I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any resources that I could place a (hopefully anonymous) call to?
And to forestall the suggestion of finding a new place - I'm looking, but have a pet with me so finding furnished pet friendly accomodations within our budget is very difficult.
Hi, I (23m) am new to the hat and was looking to socialize with people my age and what’s a better place to socialize in than a party? Are there any places that I can go to?
I understand the college used to have a Massage therapy program but dropped it around 2013-2014. Where would a young person looking to pursue that career go to school in the surrounding area?
Looking for a band for a Christmas party. I would need a way to get in touch with them too.
Thanks!
I want to buy carts in bulk but which dispensary has the cheapest prices? Thanks for your help!
Sharing the news that the Gas City Entertainment Expo is happening today (Oct 26!) at the Stampede Grounds! It's a nice time if you're into comics, anime or video games.
Rule 7: The Gas City Entertainment Expo is run by a non-profit, and I'm not involved with them. I'm just spreading the word to get more folks out to see a cool little local event!
I saw some posts about homeless leaving clothing and junk at the town square.
They were angry about It. And they went to their immediate reaction of pleading for more policing.
No one "normal" actually wants to be around social disorder, except broken people. Im one of those broken people, so I can't let the dehumanization slide.
I actually think the people are pointing their finger at the wrong target. Houseless people who are at some of the lowest point of their lives, are not the problem.
70% of fast fashion ends up in landfills before it's is even sold to a single actual person. That should clue you in how fucked up our system is that it's cheaper to throw away the majority of clothes, then give it away.
Some of it they don't even throw away. It's shipped to poor developing countries, where its usually buried. A topic for another day.
Most of the companies that sell these trendy clothes have made a small minority of people unfathomably wealthy. Including people who have made fistfulls of cash selling the small amount of second hand that doesn't end up in landfills. I won't say here what I think should happen to places like value village. It would probably violate Reddit's tos.
These wealthy assholes fly on private jets and pollute the air with god knows how much emissions. Pay workers as little as $2 a day. And on top of all that , they have lobbyist's that literally pay for a two tier justice system and find any loophole that they can get to pay less taxes.
You know what taxes could pay for? A place for someone that is broken to get a warm meal. To get a safe place to sleep. To get a degree. Medicine hat has less social spaces that are not pay to play. Resources for those that don't have money have been shrinking for decades. This is not a few bad apples or a broken system, it's working as intended. Capitalism requires a cohort of the underclass. Someone to point at and say hey if you aren't absolutely a perfect contributor, then you will be one of them animals. And the ruling class will make sure of it, by protecting their assets and throwing the people with the least under the bus.
(Not a single cop showed up at an exec of TD house. that just got caught laundering 3 billion, yet you would be tackled to the ground for shoplifting a $30 steak at Superstore).
The houseless are not your enemy. You have way more in common with them then you don't. And most of you could easily be one with a sudden disability.
Does anyone know what they are doing and why it needs to happen at about 7:30 to 9:00 every morning? It’s like they decided how to be the most disruptive in the shortest amount of time and have reached peak efficiency. I’m sure they are accomplishing something, but man does it look like they are doing it in the worst way possible.
Hi guys, happy weekend :) my bf and I are new to the city and will be here for a few months. Do you guys have any suggestions for restaurants we can try out to celebrate my bday next week?
