Golden-crowned Kinglets are tiny little songbirds typically found in spruce trees. While they tend to be migratory, a few may stick around in our wooded parks. They can be hard to spot, so listen for their high-pitched trilling calls.
I never understood why these came with lids anyways. Take notes, Dairy Queen.
We usually get the one from the mall but I was thinking about trying a different kind this Christmas
We like the long strips not the flat hard style
Thanks
We'll be celebrating my mom's 85th birthday in a few weeks, and she has a strong aversion to shortening in icing. I've called a few bakeries already and not had much luck ... does anyone here know firsthand of a bakery (or small business cake maker) who does not use shortening in their cake icing? Preferably in the west half of Edmonton or St Albert (Sherwood Park is a little too far for me to go).
Doesn't have to be a fancy cake -- she's happy with a regular sheet-style cake with a little decoration but not a lot of "stuff" -- the shortening is the deal-breaker.
Due to health reasons I cant currently enjoy a big greasy burger or deep fried foods right now. But with final exams coming around my friends and I are wanting to try and go somewhere after finishing our last exam. We're all fairly new to the city so while 'best' is super objective I'd really appreciate hearing anyone's personal favorite 'celebration' spots to help narrow down my search. Not super fancy preferably as ideally we'd like to keep it around $40 a person (not including drinks). Thanks for any recommendations.
Many Albertans have expressed growing frustration with photo radar, questioning its focus on revenue rather than safety. In response to these concerns, Alberta’s government paused the introduction of new photo radar equipment and locations on Dec. 1, 2019. Now, after thorough analysis and consultation, Alberta’s government is taking bold steps to restore public trust.
Effective April 1, 2025, ticketing on numbered provincial highways will end as photo radar will be restricted to school, playground and construction zones. Intersection safety devices in Alberta will also be restricted to red light enforcement only, ending the ‘speed-on-green’ ticketing function.
Municipalities will also be able to request that the province approve additional photo radar locations on an exceptional basis, for high collision areas and where other safety measures cannot be implemented effectively. These types of exceptions will be subject to an audit every two years to assess the effectiveness of photo radar at the site in reducing collisions.
Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors
The next step for government is to review every existing photo radar site in the province over the next four months. As part of that review, those that are deemed ineffective, or outside of a school, playground, or construction zone, will be removed. This is expected to reduce the current 2,200 approved sites by 70 per cent, which would also better align the amount of photo radar with other provinces. Currently, there are about 70 per cent more photo radar sites used in 24 Alberta municipalities than the next highest province. Allowing these changes to be implemented over the next four months provides municipalities time to transition, update equipment and adjust contracts with vendors.
Dan McLean, councillor, Ward 13, City of Calgary
Tim Cartmell, councillor, Ward pihêsiwin, City of Edmonton
Kara Westerlund, president, Rural Municipalities of Alberta
Municipalities will be encouraged to use traffic-calming measures to improve traffic safety, including speed warning signs, speed tables (large flat speed bump), public education campaigns and other tools designed to improve traffic safety. The province will also help make roads safer by providing municipalities with support to reengineer roads and intersections that have been proven to be unsafe. Â

Been doing some calling around as I have a few Deep Cycle batteries to get rid of and thought I'd share what I found.
So below is what the price per weight is that a few places around town are offering. I was surprised at the wide range as I figured they would all be a bit closer together, so definitely worth checking before dropping off. I called mainly metal recycler's as the one battery store I called said that they don't really want them and therefore offer a really low rate.
I hope this is able to help some of you and of course this is only current to the day I posted. As we get further away from this, I would recommend calling and checking if they are they same. :)
(Price is cents per pound)

Hello, all.
My Life brand humidifier broke, and my dry skin needs a new humidifier for my bedroom. I'd like to buy something that lasts a bit longer and is less gross (thinking an evaporative humidifier?). Any suggestions?
The arc card confuses me to no end and this is probably a stupid question, but when you tap on a bus are the funds only pulled when you tap getting on? I'm trying to figure out how much money I will be using up on the card going to work when I need to take two busses almost every day.
If it’s true why disable the comments. We don’t know if it’s true. Just saying. What are your thoughts Edmontonians?
About a month ago I got a chest X-Ray which resulted in showing I have an enlarged heart. Now it’s been diagnosed since I was 15 ( back in 2011)but I was regularly able to stay on top of fitness, play sports at a high level and had no problems. Previously to test my heart has been a stress test.
Doctor said it’s alarming that it’s grown a bit since My last xray in 2022.
From my knowledge this seems pretty urgent, but my doctor put in a recc 3 weeks ago to a see a cardiologist for testing and still no call on when I can even get an available appointment? This healthcare system is starting to scare me. What should I do?
Get the LRT from the Municipal Airport to St.Albert moving this is ridiculous. Meant to say Northwest, sorry for the confusion.
Hi I was offered a new position in Edmonton. The pay is almost the same. But I will be compensated for the moving expense. I'm from Calgary BTW. People keep telling me houses are cheaper in Edmonton. What is a good neighborhood that is relatively close to downtown (10-15 minute drive) but no to less homeless, safe and quiet, and have good schools?
No other symptoms. The kids spent the weekend puking about 6-8 times
Now the wife and I are puking, on our third round and was wondering if anyone else had experience this
Solved Thanks norovirous
I'm looking for a standing desk that my wife and I can share. Since I'm 1.9m tall, it needs to be super adjustable to fit my height. I've got a lot of gear to fit on it too - 2 monitors, a laptop, keyboard, and wacom tablet. my wife occasionally joins me with her laptop. I'm thinking of Autonomous or Flexispot. Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks in advance.
Vendors in CA or US would be fine
Hi. I lost my cat on Canada Day (he was 17 and was his time) and now am ready to adopt a new fur baby/babies. I know there are a bunch of rescues around. Are some better than others? How many rescues are there? What is your experience adopting in the Edmonton area? I'm kind of overwhelmed and in need of advice. Also, for those with dogs, how do you deal with the snow when letting them out in the yard? (I guess I will need to shovel the deck.) I've only had cats in Edmonton. Last time I had a dog, I lived in southern Ohio. (Not much snow there.) Thanks foŕ your help and information.
Hey everyone,
My partner and I are looking for a new apartment for the coming spring. We viewed Raymond block and liked a couple of the suite options. The only downside we seemed to notice was the additional fee for underground parking. The reviews on Google are half bad, half good. I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience with Raymond block or the company deveraux?
Thanks!
I want to publicly thank the staff at the Northeast Community Hospital Urgent Care Center for the incredible compassion, kindness and level of care they provided me on Sunday afternoon. I went there with some breathing issues and fully expected to be sitting in the waiting room for hours. My total time there was less than 3 hours. In that time I had blood work, an ECG and chest xrays. Everyone in every department treated me so very well. My mom and I overheard 2 patients mis-treating the staff. Both of them were trying to tear out their IV tubes-one because they didn’t get the drugs they were seeking and the other because they were basically not thinking straight (due to alcohol or drug abuse). They were homeless and had frostbite and needed treatment or could have gotten infection, but wanted to leave. The staff continued to treat both of them with kindness and respect. I would have lost my patience but they didn’t. They explained what they were doing and why it was necessary. I had worked in emergency admitting for 19 years previously and had plenty of patience when I did but I guess my time for that has passed lol. So thank you very much to the staff who was working between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm! God bless you for all you do! You definitely make a difference.
my cat has not been eating good today, and limping occasionally for couple of days now. but i can never find any prices for vets on websites of clinics, so i gotta ask, in the city what's the cheapest place to do a check-up?
Do they give things like pads and baby diapers? What other supplies and services are provided for both mom and baby? Any information would be helpful!
Hi, can anyone recommend a good ophthalmologist who can accurately diagnose binocular vision dysfunction (BVD) and can prescribe prism lenses in Edmonton? Thanks in advance!
