Before I do something dumb and ruin my scissors and knife edge, I was wondering if using the file that my Surge came with could be used to hone up those edges?
I'm sure most of you know, but the Surge file can be removed and switched out with the saw, so I can take it out to use it.
Thanks!
Seemed like the logical choice. Pliers, blade, scissors. All at the the ready. Light weight, pocket access, seemed perfect.
Went yesterday. Big nope. Scissors would not cut line
20 lb braided. 30 lb braided. 12 lb test.
I am really let down. I tightened the scissors when I got home, and was a little better. But still. No easy cut.
If I have to adjust for a simple cut, it will likely loosen. That’s a no go when in the field.
My girl just got me this for my upcoming b day…. Do I marry her?
I've carried the Leatherman ARC for months, and although a great multi tool, I've come to miss the smaller form factor and ergonomics of the Free P2.
Choosing my preferred main tools was not difficult. The main blade and diamond/cross-cut file get the most use, not to mention that the side of the cross-cut file doubles as a metal saw, and the hard cutters within the pliers head are more than capable of cutting rope, wire, string, and zipties).
The fitment is very tight, with the main tools rubbing slightly against the scales when opening and closing. This is due to the inward curvature of the Free series scales— something that appreciably improves ergos, but is lost on the ARC. I'm willing to make this compromise.
What are your thoughts? Has anyone tried anything similar with other Free series models (P, K, or T)?
My skeletool has begun to have a pretty huge amount of blade play side to side. Is there a simple fix for this or should I just send in for warranty. Thanks !
So I'm in the market right now for a brand new Leatherman (since my last one, a Charge AL went MIA after 11 years with me).
Tools that I need are knife, scissors, bit holder, file, can opener and if possible a hammer. I've been out of the loop for a while now and if possible I would like to get some suggestions.
This guy is in my pocket every work day and today the clip broke! Anyone know if there are any cool little lanyards that could replace the clip?
i have an old leatherman surge it doesnt even have the replaceable cutters and im wondering where i can get good t shank tools for it
Kinda like the Leatherman Skeletool and KB combo sold in some places like Costco.
But instead of just throwing 2 tools in the lineup together, they make it so that the products are new and intentionally complement each other and there are no redundancies in the feature set of both tools.
What would you like to see in both tools?
IMHO, Leatherman nearly got it right with the C33

If they'd just swapped the carabiner for a bit holder 🤦♂️
I've searched and searched and it looks like I'm just going to have to build a proper Leatherman pocket knife.
S30V blade and large bit holder. I've got stuff like 3mm titanium plate to make a handle and phosphor bronze bushes left over from previous projects. Just getting the pukka parts seems to be difficult without buying a complete Charge to get those parts (although, from the prices I see on Etsy, selling the leftovers should get my money back!). Mind you, if I did cannibalise a Charge, I could use it's scales too. That would remove a ton of fabricating for me.
The bit holder is 5mm and the blade 2.5mm so I'd be highly tempted to fit the 1.8mm absolutely awesome file beside that (really, I'd buy a file blade if available by itself rather than bundled with the equally atrocious saw!).
Jaggedy blade? Nope. Saw blade, scissors, can opener, straight and eyeglass screwdrivers? Never used them.
Seems I'll be trawling secondhand shops/gumtree/ebay for a while... (unless Leatherman see this and make one - I'll be first in line!)
while im waiting for my surge to arrive in the mail im looking into some mods i can do. and i was wondering if i could take the hammer of the MUT and put it on the surge. does anyone know if this is possible??? otherwise id love to know more mods i can do to my surge when it arrives.
Was looking at the new colours and saw this unfortunately when you look at the page it no longer lives up to its name. In other news I need to stay away for my bank accounts safety on OD green skeleton.
I always have to struggle to get the bit driver extracted from my Arc. I pretty much have to open all the other tools on that side, then pry it out. Frustrating! I have lubed the joint up on the bit driver ... to no avail. Any suggestions, tips, or tricks? Thanks.
Been carrying since I picked up the original at an American PX in Germany back in 1995. Had a Wave, then a Charge TTi which Leatherman swapped for this Charge XTi a few years ago.
They were EDC and I found that, as I was wearing a pouch, I was always trying to attach more stuff. The PowerTac Sabre was always tucked in (I swapped that out for their Scholar which is now in a different pocket).
I started 3D printing about 10 years ago and used that for some useful accessories:
The extension bar handle, bit kit, hacksaw blade handle, toothpick and pouch base.
As I'm in the UK, I swapped the washers around on the knife blades to make them non-locking.
Just thought someone might be interested 😅

I was wondering will a blade from a TTI or Surge work on the Leatherman signal? Would I be able to just swap the blade on and not have to modify anything else?
i've a core from my father that was my edc for years, but it's on it's last legs and i'd rather have it as a keepsake than break it.
any recommendations from leatherman's new stuff? my most used bits on the core were the phillips, flathead, file, and blade!
