Thinking of leaving Vancouver area

I’m married with kids living in Vancouver and feel stuck. We feel as if we will never be able to buy a house for our family with the outrageous prices here. Would like to get opinions from people that used to live in Vancouver and are now living in Kelowna, do you truly like it better there?

Dog daycare

I am about to get a 4 month old puppy. 2 days/week will need daytime doggy daycare while I am at work. Up to date on vaccines, but not neutered yet. Does anyone know a dog daycare facility that takes unneutered dogs? I am not interested in Bark and Fly or Kelowna pet resort. Nothing in West Kelowna. Nothing over $50/day. Thanks!

Hi I am looking for some insight on the day to day job duties of a clinical specialist job, and what experience was helpful to move in to this position. This job differed from the nurse clinical specialist positions that are posted. Thanks!

Eloping Spot

My soon to be husband and I are looking for a nice and ideally free spot to do a very short (30 min) elopement ceremony. We are having our big day in Mexico so we are just doing something super lowkey in Canada just before we go. Our original spot that we picked is no longer an option. We found a spot we liked at Kaloya Park in Oyama. I see online they don’t allow wedding bookings anymore but this isn’t really a “wedding” just a quick elopement ceremony. Will we have any troubles on the day if we decide to go there? It’s going to be at the end of January in the afternoon so I don’t think many people if any would be there. There would be 11 people plus one family friend taking photos and there will be no decorations either. We literally just want to stand on the beach (or snow lol) in front of the water. Has anyone done that here without issues? I don’t want to have to panic pick another spot last minute if something goes wrong. I feel like it would be fine, right?

Purolator

Hi having issues getting a parcel from Purolator. As it is in Kelowna does anyone have the Kelowna location's phone number? I'm only able to get through to the 1-888 number that has been no help. Not sure if this is even an option but worth a try. Thanks.

Also does anyone know how delayed they are? It seems pretty bad.

Is pizza 64 good?

Is Pizza 64 a good place to get pizza in Kelowna? I usually get Papa John's if I want pizza because I think it's the best pizza to get in Kelowna, but I wanted to try something new and wondered if Pizza 64 is good or if it is similar to Papa John's pizza.

No Frills now open downtown

Gordon and Lawson.

I was pleasantly surprised by prices. May be they're meant to be introductory but hope for the best.

Pack of bagels - $2.50 vs. $5ish at Freshco

Gallon of washerfluid - $3.50 vs. $7 at a gas station.

I'm usually a Costco guy, but this will be a good place for all the one-offs and things you don't want to buy a huge amount of.

Family member having legal trouble, please suggest good lawyer in Kelowna

A relative of mine deals with some mental health issues, had a recent incident involving police and requires a lawyer. It's nothing too serious but they do not want to get a criminal record to inhibit the ability to get work or travel. Please recommend a quality lawyer that charges a reasonable amount.

Now that snow and ice have hit Clifton Road I’m seeing all the tar that Kelowna Road Crews dripped into street cracks coming loose and pealing up.

What a complete waste of time, man power, materials and tax money.

Probably $500.00 per day for 5+ days in wages plus equipment and materials

The thing is, this is common in Kelowna. Springfield has the same issue.

I think the taxpayers should get a refund!!!

Only in Kelowna do vacancy rates soar and prices still go up!

The rental vacancy rate across Metro Kelowna has taken a huge leap. The yearly rate, tabulated by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation shows the vacancy rate in the region has spiked to 3.8 per cent. It’s the third highest rate of any metropolitan area in the country behind only Calgary (4.8%) and St. John, NB (4.0%). The vacancy rate was pegged at 1.3 per cent just 12 months ago. The rate takes in the entire Metro Kelowna region from Peachland to Lake Country. Individually, the rental vacancy rate for both Kelowna and West Kelowna sits at 3.7 per cent. Data was not available for Lake Country or Peachland. In terms of specific unit sizes, the vacancy rate in the metro region for bachelor units soared from 0.2 per cent to 4.8, one bedroom from 1.0 to 3.4, two bedrooms from 1.7 to 3.6 while the rate for three bedroom units is pegged at 5.4 per cent. This is just the second time in two decades the rental vacancy rate within the City of Kelowna has surpassed three per cent. Earlier in the fall, city planning director Ryan Smith predicted the rate could take a significant jump with the flood of rentals coming onto the market. The rise in the vacancy rate above three per cent could also be good news for the city if it wishes to opt out of provincial legislation around short-term rentals. Communities are able to opt out of principle residency requirements if they meet certain criteria, chief among those, a vacancy rate at or above three per cent for two consecutive years. While the vacancy rate has taken a large jump, rents across the board have also increased according to the survey. The average rent went up by $108 a month to $1,731. Rents for a bachelor unit average $1,370, a one bedroom $1,509 and two bedrooms $1,935. The annual report does not include secondary suites, carriage houses or duplexes.

Facebook Scams

No, I didn’t give anyone a “deposit”. I did arrange for a pick up, didn’t haggle in the price, checked the profile and it was made in 2013. I was a little suspicious of the profile because they didn’t seem to have any Kelowna contacts and it was a good deal so I didn’t just go to the given address without confirming I was on my way. When I went to do that, posting was gone and the poster profile was gone. But why bother? They got nothing from me. Just wasted both of our times. Last time I did this, I showed up at the given address anyhow only to figure out it was a hoax. Why would someone do this? What’s to gain?

How are the roads today?

As title suggests haha. I’m not originally from Kelowna, my hometown is in a tropical place where I never had to worry about driving in the snow or icy roads afterwards. Just wondering how the roads are today around Kelowna and lake country? Are they really icy? Don’t wanna endanger others with my lack of experience in winter driving. TIA

Anyone noticing an increase in“lost” Amazon packages?

I’ve lived at the same address for a decade now, and Intelcom/now Firefly has never had issues delivering to my address. I am not in an apartment building, and there are no barriers to delivering to my place.

Over the last month now, there has been an increase in packages being “attempted” to be delivered, but in the end I have to get refunded as they are marked as lost.

However, they always follow the same trend: get an email that it’s out for delivery, it isn’t delivered, marked as “attempted delivery” (which is not true, I have a doorbell camera), then I have to wait a week to have Amazon refund me (often sales prices are over by then).

Has anyone else seen an increase in this behaviour? Intelcom does not reply to inquiries anymore, so that’s pointless to even try. Is it driver theft? Ineptitude?
