Dinner recommendations?

In town to see if moving here is a good option for me and the one person I know, is busy tonight so I'm on my own for dinner. Where are the best places?

This is what's wrong with CBC

Letting drug advocates dunk on cops for actually doing their job? F**k right off, CBC.

Leaving leaves until spring?

Had someone leave a note in our mail box about cleaning the yard and the unlimited yard waste day coming up. I do t have any real issues about what people think about how it looks but... Is there any issues in terms of by laws, and possibly landlords, if I leave my leaves in the yard until spring?

My understanding it is better for hibernating bugs and the likes to leave them. Ontop of that they yard is very sandy and so it's near impossible to keep anything living through the summer once the heat and sun really hit us, so I was thinking whatever gets degraded during winter can be "fertilizer" for the yard.

I do a full clean up in spring and maintain the yard through the rest of the year, so this was a bit of a suprise.

Moving

Hey everyone. In one week me and my friend are moving to penticton from New Zealand, we are both 18 year old guys coming for the snow season. We have jobs at Apex mountain and accommodation in penticton. Before we arrive, is there any tips / local knowledge we should know or that could help? Appreciate it :)

Best route to Alberta

I am going to visit family in a small town that is between Edson and Rocky Mountain house on Friday. Which route is less treacherous during the winter, the 5 through jasper or going through Banff? They’re roughly the same time-wise…

Package delivery

Hey everyone!

Has anyone been having issues recently with online order package delivery? I know the strike is looming for Canada Post but it's a different company that's been delivering my parcels. Had the same guy for years but recently it's someone different...

I heard they had a rental van stolen with customers mail in it

Anyone have the same experience?

Ok, the elections are done now. No more general politics posts.

We have been very relaxed about political discussions in the run up to the provincial and US federal elections but now they are over and there are much more appropriate subs for discussions about them. Unless the post is specific to a decision or policy directly affecting Penticton it will be removed.

Help with medical issue

I’m hoping someone can help direct me to some assistance for a family member with a medical situation. I realize there is a wait for doctors, I’m looking for options as are already on the list. Needing referrals for a female for gyno and endocrinologist as well as an ultrasound and perhaps some other diagnostic exams. Have tried the walk in and the doctor there was truly awful, reading her reviews I’m shocked she’s still practicing. Are there any female focused health clinics/nurse practitioners or should we go and sit it out in emergency and hope the physician there can order tests and make referrals?

What do you like most?

Seems a ton of negatives being mentioned and discussed on various SM platforms about our great little city. And everyone that goes negative, feeling that's these problems and issues are limited to Penticton. After a summer and fall of traveling across the western provinces. I've seen it everywhere. From larger cities, to hamlets of less than 500 people.

So what do you like most of our little heaven on earth?

Penticton no longer has a daily newspaper

Penticton Herald announced on the front page today they're cutting back to 3 papers a week - Wednesday, Friday, Saturday. Sad day for the community. But does anyone even care?

Amazing Race Canada

In the latest season, the contestants spent some time in the Okanagan. In Penticton at the Sicamous and The Book Shop. At Area 27 Motorsports Park and Phantom Creek Estates in Oliver. At the Dirty Laundry in Summerland. And at Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyoos.

Just a curious, general post if anyone here saw them filming at all or has any tidbits to share?

Carriage house in Wiltse - the best rental options?

We have a guest house/carriage house on our new (to us) property. We are trying to decide what the best route is to rent it out.

We're up in Wiltse, so wondering if there's an actual market for tourists to stay up here as we're not at the lake? Is Air BNB worth it?

Has anyone rented via the Travel Nurses site for longer term rentals? Is there a market for here?

We're hesitant to do long term renting, as we want the flexibility for friends and family, but also conscious we want a semi-regular income from it.

Walmart self check-out staff are annoying me now by giving themselves 5-star reviews after I pay.

It was annoying being asked everytime I checked out if I wanted a MasterCard. Now they just appear at the end of my transaction and punch in a 5-star customer review when I'm done. Like, what kind of service does the store even provide anymore? There's no one to ask for help finding stuff. I check out my own groceries. Piss off.
