How much do you guys believe in superstitions/the paranormal?

My boyfriend and I have been having this debate since last night and it's gotten us curious. For context, I grew up in a Bihari Brahmin household in Bengal. Superstitions or belief in the paranormal was something I grew up with and even though I've grown up and refuse to believe it to a large extent, I still practice a reasonable amount of caution "just in case".

On the other hand, my boyfriend is Maharashtrian and his family/community don't hold such beliefs AS MUCH. Sure, there are some folkores or whatever you wanna call them, but overall they dismiss the presence of the paranormal or the relevance of superstitions to a large extent.

Our debate was instigated by something that happened last night. We live together and were out walking in the late evening. There's a piece of cloth that's been lying on the road for a couple of days now and I always refuse to cross it or touch it. I will walk from its side because that's what I was taught, growing up. That these kind of strange objects, pieces of clothes, etc., can be cursed and touching/crossing them can have negative effects on you.

Well, yesterday we were drunk and I stepped on it, lol. Later in the night, once we came back home, I heard whistling coming from outside. Knowing my boyfriend and how dismissive he is about this stuff, I chose to not tell him of the whistling. From what I had heard, if you hear something whistling or calling your name outside your house in the evening/night, you are not supposed to acknowledge it. I knew my boyfriend wouldn't agree to that so I just pretended to not hear it and didn't bring it up to him until this morning.

Now my boyfriend is arguing that I should have told him and he wanted to investigate. He is also suggesting we play that Japanese game of hide and seek with a spirit in a doll. I'm shit scared and I really don't wanna do it, lol

Anyway, I wanted to know what are your opinions on this stuff? And also how do I convince him to maintain a healthy amount of caution even when he is a non-believer?

When Indian education system fails a child.

Right now, I run a home tuition service with my sister. I am 22 years old and preparing for UPSC, while my sister, aged 21, is preparing for NEET, aiming to improve her score from 593 to 650 in her fourth attempt to secure an MBBS seat. Recently, a boy named Devendra, aged 14–15, joined our tuition. He is from Rajasthan, where he studied in a Hindi medium school till the 8th grade, and he is now preparing for the 9th grade under the Maharashtra board in English medium. However, he lacks basic knowledge in both Hindi and English—simple things like addition, subtraction with carry, division, spelling words like “January” and “February,” or understanding concepts like the solar system. Despite being in the 9th grade, his education has serious gaps, and even younger students I teach know more than he does. When he joined on November 11, I started teaching him and soon realized the gravity of his situation. I spoke to my sister about the effort needed to bring him up to standard.

On November 13 or 14, I asked him to have his father call me to discuss his education, what I planned to teach, and the fees. However, Devendra said his father was too busy and wouldn’t call. This surprised me, as I believe any parent devoted to their child’s education would make time. His mother lives in Rajasthan, and his father runs a small sweet shop near my house, where they also live. I suspect financial constraints are a reason for his reluctance to discuss fees. I texted them a few days later, proposing a fee of ₹1,000, which is lower than the standard ₹1,200–1,500 for a 9th-grade student. Today, Devendra brought a phone and asked me to talk to someone. It was a woman who runs a Xerox shop near his father’s shop. She claimed the fee was ₹300, based on something his mother might have said. I was shocked—how can the fee for a 9th-grade student, especially one requiring so much effort, be only ₹300? I suspect there was a misunderstanding, as it’s common for tutors to offer commissions for referrals, and the woman might have thought ₹300 was the fee, not her commission.

Devendra mentioned he had attended other tuitions where the fee was ₹800, yet his education remains at a basic level, indicating those tutors failed him. Now, I worry I may also fail him due to financial constraints. The educational system has already let him down—his 8 years in a government school in Rajasthan, his time in Maharashtra, and the other tuitions he attended have not equipped him with even basic skills. While I understand the government’s efforts to promote regional languages, I feel strongly that English should also be prioritized. In today’s globalized world, English is essential for a student’s future, especially in higher education. I feel bad for Devendra because he is not a bad student; he is simply a victim of a failed system. His future depends on him learning English, but systemic failures and financial issues may prevent him from achieving his potential. ( This is crux by CHATGPT because I'm not gonna write this long when I can use AI for it)

Store | Cloth | Advice | Shooping

I’m new to Delhi and looking for a store that sells clothes similar to Sarojini or thrift stores, but with a better shopping experience. I’d prefer a store where I can browse patiently and find the items I need. I understand the prices might be higher compared to Sarojini or other local shops, but I’d like a place that offers a good collection and a comfortable shopping environment.

If any one know any store like this please let me know.

Thankyou😊

Forced to Third-Wheel and Fund a Date? Sure, Why Not.

So my college bestie decides it's time for me to meet her boyfriend, who, for some reason, really wanted to hang out with me. Like bro, I’m flattered, but why? Is there a secret friendship approval committee I don’t know about? Anyway, I agreed because she wouldn’t stop hyping him up, and I figured it’d be a chill outing. Spoiler: It wasn’t.

We ended up at Hauz Khas Village because apparently, her boyfriend was dying to see "the area near my college." Right, because nothing screams cultural exploration like overpriced food and the chaos of HKV autos. They start ordering like royalty—drinks (₹1000), fancy dishes (₹300 and ₹600), and a few extras for good measure. I’m just sitting there trying not to laugh when the bill comes to ₹2400, and Romeo picks it up like a Bollywood hero. I thought it was sweet until I realized later that my “friend” was calculating the cost like a CA during tax season.

And let’s talk about the transportation drama. Hauz Khas Village is far from the metro, so we took autos. Did I insist on this? No. Did I enjoy the bumpy rides and smog? Also no. But now I hear I should’ve “offered to split.” Um, excuse me, did I invite myself to your romantic getaway? The way they were walking ahead of me in CP, holding hands and giggling, I felt like a prop in their pre-wedding shoot. I wasn’t a guest; I was an unpaid extra. Honestly, next time, maybe send me an agenda and budget breakdown in advance.

Then comes the ice cream saga. After all the food and drinks, they decide to get dessert. Again, they paid. But did I ask for ice cream? Was I crying for kulfi like a toddler? Nope. Yet somehow, I’m the villain for not pulling out my wallet to sponsor their date. Honestly, if I’d known I’d be guilt-tripped into being a third wheel and part-time financier, I’d have stayed home binge-watching TMKOC and saving my dignity.

Moral of the story: If you’re going to force someone to third-wheel your love story, at least let them do it for free—and with minimal judgment.

Lost my phone in Metro

Hi everyone,

I had a pretty unfortunate experience recently and need some advice on what to do next.

Date and time of incident : 2nd Dec, 6PM

I lost my iPhone 15 at Botanical Garden Metro Station (Platform 2) while visiting Noida for work. I was about to leave for Chandigarh(my home) via an evening train, so I didn’t have the time or space to properly search for it.

Here’s what happened:

  1. Realized the phone was missing: Tried calling it using someone else’s phone, but no one picked up.
  2. Freezed the number: Called my family, and they got my number blocked immediately.
  3. Filed a report: When I got down at Rajeev Chowk, I asked the police for help, and they directed me to file a report online. I used this link: https://lostfound.delhipolice.gov.in/LostApp/index.aspx
  4. New update: I got a new phone today and checked the location of my lost phone using Find My iPhone. It’s showing up at Madhu Vihar, Indraprastha Extension.

Unfortunately, I’m back in Chandigarh and can’t go to Delhi right now.

Does anyone know what my next step should be? Is there a way to contact local authorities or someone near that location for help? Any advice or pointers would mean a lot!

Thanks in advance!

Is there any site for finding local/online events?

Hi, I was getting bored, so I decided to find an event nearby to waste my time. But couldn't find any.

How do you know about the events that are going to happen locally? And how do you join them?

Improve your driving sense FFS

Most Delhiites who drive turn on their High Beam at night thinking that it’s a normal feature. Also, a lot of people do not give indicators, drive in the wrong lane. Just because you can, DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD. This is an even bigger problem while driving on narrower roads. Last night in Rajinder Nagar, if I encountered 10 cars, 7 had the audacity to turn on the high beam even though the whole locality has ample street lights. Special mention to assholes who do not even turn on the headlights and risking their lives and the lives of people sitting next to them too. Sometimes I turn on my high beam to make the other person realise. Sometimes they do turn off their high beam, and sometimes they are arrogant enough to look me in the eye like I stole their wallet.

Not only you are potentially affecting the eye sight of the other person, but also risking a huge traffic hazard which can cause unforeseen damage. I can criticise you all in the worst way possible but I have to fall in line with the guidelines to get this post through. So yeah.

Delhi layover question

Hi, I have a connecting flight at the Delhi International airport. I arrive at Terminal 3 around 1 am and have my next connecting flight at terminal 1 at around 1pm. Are there places to stay? Should I get a hotel or a lounge? How safe is it? How would I get to terminal 1 from 3 as I checked Google maps and it’s a couple miles away. I have 12 hours and would prefer to sleep or just chill in the airport itself. Any suggestions on what I could do? Thank you so much and have a blessed day.

Help me learn how to socialize pls

I used to be decently socially competent with my previous friend group but now whenever I try to hang with new people I tend to go totally nonverbal and I can never think of anything to say, and everyone keeps asking me if I took offence to something due to this. How do I be better?
