r/DarkFuturology examines dystopian trends, usually in relation to current events, promoting total freedom of speech. We emerged from growing dissatisfaction with the utopian tech-porn dominating r/Futurology. As well as mainstream dystopian topics, we also promote discussion of controversial subjects that too often lurk in shadows far from the accepted discourse. This is necessary for building a broad understanding of all issues faced by humanity in this century and, if we're lucky, the next...

What is the Dark Future?
The global ruling class is indifferent to the needs and dreams of the global masses. But when we're no longer required to reproduce, work, consume and pay taxes, what's next?
Automation, natural limits, and new inequalities will be the gamechangers of the 21st century. Our well-schooled world leaders maintain absolute silence on such crucial matters.
Imagine the ferocity of competition for wealth and status if the rewards were material luxury and extended lifespans and perfect offspring and supercharged bodies & minds.
Against the backdrop of energy scarcity and superpowerful AI, all necessary measures to protect power and privilege are now in place. But increasingly VUCA times are assured.

As global population increased, so did the extraction of finite resources.
Several hundred billionaires were created by exploiting these resources and billions of workers.
Those finite resources would enable global growth only up to a certain point.
From that point onwards, there would be a gradual decline of available resources and therefore economic activity.
That means global population would have to be calibrated downwards accordingly.
Starting with the populations in economies which consume the most resources.
Managing the housing supply would be the principal means of restricting birth rates.
People would need grand justifications to accept losses of freedom, choice and prosperity.
Gradual, prolonged economic decline could include a range of selling points.
A shortening work week. Cleaner air. Improved health. And the planet would be saved.
I might be able to offer some teasers in response to questions. I have met with the project leader. He is Simon Michaux and he has plenty of videos from the last few months which outline it pretty well.
