Bike trails on the east side of town - are they open to the public?

I'm talking about the ones that branch off from the north-south line behind Desert Foothills Park. OnX Maps shows that a lot of them go through private property, but they are marked as public trails.

There are "No Trespassing - City of Alamogordo" signs that are to the side of some trails. One of those is at the end of Marble Estate Dr, but the same trail seems to be open as it goes across Lincoln National Forst land. There's a line of no-trespassing signs following that same trail on Paiute Trl but it looks like they are just warning people off the empty lot and not the trail.

Is it legal to bicycle on those trails? Is there a map to show what is really accessible?

Gas prices in town

Just curious why all the gas stations in town are charging around $2.43 a gallon except Allsups on 70 who jacked their price up this morning to $2.89 - coincidence they did this today, or are they trying to influence the election?

Wanting to make friends with some other dudes

I’m 24, been here about a year but haven’t been able to make friends with any other dudes really. I’m into watching/playing sports and like drinking beer and smoking some weed. Hoping to meet other dudes around my age

Early voting is open

And has been for a week. I went today and the whole thing took about fifteen minutes. Most of that was spent waiting in line. I really like how our state makes voting an easy process.

From now until November 2 you can vote in person at the County Admin building on New York Ave. On election day, November 5, there are a bunch of places to vote. Find out more at the clerk's office site here.

Edit: You don't have to show ID to vote, and they can't ask you for it, but if you present it at check-in the process goes a little faster.

Buying land in Alamogordo: East or West?

Hi folks, I'm thinking of buying a plot of land in Alamogordo to set up a tinyhouse or mobile home to live in.

The plots to the west (closer to White Sands) are a lot cheaper, but without much vegetation. The plots to the East are a little higher up in elevation.

I'm concerned about the wind/sand/dust eroding my house, but am not sure how big of an issue that is – and whether the elements are less harsh on the Eastern side. What do you guys think? Cheaper western plot, or more expensive eastern/high-elevation lot?

Any other advice about living in a mobile home/tinyhouse in the area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Walmart

I've heard from some higher up people who deal with the city, but apparently the reason not a lot is here becauseealmart has made a deal with the city to be the only major place in alamogordo for a certain amount of years. Also, apparently there are people running this city who dont want new things here which is why it takes so long to for anything to actually be established here. Another reason businesses cant succeed here is because of their own greed putting everyone in the ground first (This is just word of mouth fron 3 people so far)

The White Sands Balloon Invitational is this weekend.

Keep an eye out for balloons early tomorrow morning and into the evening, as well as Sunday morning. Read more about it here. Do note that parking off site may get you a ticket, and not the good kind.

Anyone lost a bird dog with a red/rink collar?

Passed it on the right 70 headed to base just before the “w” fireworks stand, pulled over to check it out but it trotted away from the road. I hope this goes where it needs to.

I’m looking to move into the neighborhood behind the Fairfield Inn and overpass. How loud is the train?

I recently moved back to Alamo, and we like the houses over there in the Kelly, Dublin, Galloway streets. How is the train noise? Are the houses well built? Thanks!

Cat cafe

Looking into opening a cat cafe in the Granada center. Really focusing on the high schoolers and tourist as main clientele but wondering if anyone else would be genuinely interested in it. Our main focus on the cafe side would be smoothies and pastries and the cats would be a separate area you pay to enter.

Anyone else see this last night

Think it was between 9-10pm. The trail stopped appearing shortly after maybe 5 minutes if that and then the object got smaller and smaller till it was no longer visible.
