Alumni- are there any interesting stories you have from your time at the institute, or any minor damage you want to see if it's still there?

Quick Question Regarding the Laptops

Hello!

I'm a prospective prep cadet at NMMI, and I was wondering if any pre-existing students could tell me if we are allowed to have videogames (e.g. from Steam or the Microsoft Store) installed on our computers for entertainment in our (very rare, I know,) free time.

I've been trying to find an answer to this but so far haven't been able to. Thanks!

Lost Saber

My dad is an alumni from NMMI. Many years ago he was moving from his station in Korea back to the states, and during the move he lost his NMMI saber. I was wondering if NMMI would issue/allow him to purchase a new one for him to have.

Christian atmosphere?

Incoming JC cadet through the ECP program. I have intent to go Chaplain route in the future through an Ed Delay, but that's a while away seeing as I first need a bachelor's.

Anywho, I saw there is a Christian club listed on the Institute website. Is this still active? What denominations are the current chaplains, if known? Previous interactions from alumni are also appreciated. I'm simply trying to wrap my head around the campus' Christian community.

How many persons consider themselves Christian? As in, is there a lot or will I be the odd one out?

Questions about NMMI

Hi I’m a sophomore in high school who is interested in attending NMMI for a semester or a year. I was wondering how hard is it to get a scholarship and also if it isn’t unheard of just going for a semester or year. I know I should be asking these questions to admissions but I wanted to hear ur opinions too.

Looking into attending, but I'm not exactly a model student.

As the title says, I've been looking into colleges due to my going into senior year of high school. In particular, NMMI has caught my eye considering it's a military institute, (of which I've been wanting to attend,) and how close it is to my father's home. However, I've not been a model student. Certain events happened and I let myself go in terms of my academics. Freshman and Sophomore year were... okay, but not great. And Junior year? Heh. Not even close.

What do y'all think, do I have a chance?

Uniform Update

The following is a direct quote.

"

The new Blue Book is published and available.  Learning Objectives in the Blue Book changed to align with Co-curricular activities.

Possible uniform alternatives were shown to the Board during the recent Board meeting.  A desert tan alternative to the current ACU.  The uniform itself is light weight compared to the Army proposed ACU-ODP, and is approximately $40 per set cheaper.  The original uniform worn by NMMI from 1891 until about 1918-1920, was shown as an alternative to the Army suggested “Pinks and Greens.”  This would return us to an NMMI distinctive uniform similar to what West Point, VMI and the Citadel wear.  The uniform is more expensive than the current ASU alternative but the net cost between the savings on the desert tan uniform and the increase on the distinctive uniform is still an overall savings.  No decision has been made.  We will wear the current uniform for the 20/21 school year.  However, we will need to make a decision in time for Hanover, our uniform supplier, to get the uniforms shipped here so we can issue the new uniforms to RATS for the 21/22 school year.  Also, we will make this change and then not change again.  We are not required to follow the Army approved uniform and we are not going to continue of his revolving door of uniform changes the Army seems to be following.

"

This is the current update on uniforms.

As many current cadets now, cadre week begins soon.

Finally we can return to old post.

So yeah.

Uniform Change Announcement

Due to the US Army no longer producing ACU's NMMI is looking at either a new combat pattern or to switch, as a corps, to full OCP's. However, the cost of purchasing fresh OCP's for the corps is immense, and they have determined a better course of action would be to produce the ACU's for NMMI with a custom manufacturer, or if they are doing that, to just put a new combat pattern in service all together.

Now then, if you have ideas please comment and DM me photos of any ideas.

Additionally, since NMMI is looking to replace the combat pattern they are also planning on taking suggestions on other uniforms, such as the Formal, PT, Class C, Class A and Class B uniforms. You may leave suggestions as well.

I am linking Here a Camo generator with custom colors and pattern. NMMI is looking at a Digital Camo currently and the "Maple Warrior" seems to be the best so far.

Please be aware NMMI colors are Dark Red, White and Black

Also, If you wish to redesign the Squadron Patches, or make a NMMI-Themed JROTC/ROTC Patch, then you may also link those

EDIT:

The Head NCO SGM Broesamle has now made an update:

NMMI Currently looks as OCP for the combat pattern and all other uniforms are no longer being changed.

So basically, they are doing the smart thing and going with OCPs.

Would this be a good school to enroll a bone headed 8th grader in?

My little brother has been defiant and extremely disobedient for years and it’s time we enroll him in a military school. Do you guys think this school would build character? I know the school is 9-12 so I would essentially be enrolling him next year

NMMI to Service Academies

So I submitted a packet to NMMI today, and have a few general questions.

Does anybody here have experience in using NMMI as a way to get to a Service Academy? My first choice is the U.S. Naval Academy, 2nd choice is U.S. Air Force Academy, 3rd choice is U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 4th choice is U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and 5th choice is U.S. Military Academy.

NMMI states online that if an applicant does not get into a service academy, then NMMI will help applicants commission another way. Does anyone know what these options are? If I cannot commission through a service academy, I would like to do the USMC PLC program to become a marine aviator.

Additionally, I am a community college graduate. I have classes such as Calculus 1 and 2, Economics, Psychology, Ethics, American Government, English, Spanish, French, Russian, World History, lots of aviation credits, Environmental Science, and Biology. Will some of the gen ed credits transfer so I can focus on classes such as chemistry and physics, or will I have to start all over again at NMMI?

Thanks!

P.S. My top two "dreams" are to become a military aviator, and to graduate from a service academy.
