Some general improvements either to the hardware or (more importantly) overhauls/steps up in VR game design that would make them way more pleasurable to you on a subjective level. Even if they are comparatively minor changes, so long as they’d have a big effect on your enjoyment of the game.
For me, improvements to these would take VR to an entirely new level (and I’m aware that actually making the scope of improvements is way more difficult technologically than I’ll make it sound)
the tracking for my left ring finger doesnt work, any ways to fix it? its a brand new kit literally just arrived last week and ive only used it for like 30 minutes total.
I'm planning on getting a Kat Walk for my Valve Index. The issue is the room I'd want to store it in is across the house. I have no problem running cables in my home but the issue I'm running into is if it's even going to work. I know cables introduce latency.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm expecting that a single cable would probably have to run like 150ft. through the walls.
I changed my controllers to trackers then i deleted my SteamVR , so the backups are gone .
Note :
Steam\config\lighthouse\lhr-######\config.json is the new one.
for anyone that wanna help and have an index:
go to :
Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\tools\lighthouse\bin\win32
then run lighthouse_console.exe
while the headset running , and plug one of your controllers with a usb (IMPORTANT)
then type : downloadconfig and hit enter
a file will be downloaded called : LHR-something (at the same dir)
i need that file !!!!
New to VR with a used Index+FBT (3xVive v2), and while manhandling the thing, I broke the clip (I didn't check which way it snapped on, it was already attached when I got it) and I broke the bottom side with the thin slot instead of the latch at the top. So rather than spending the $150 on a new tether that I don't need just to get the clips, I thought maybe somebody here might have a spare one from their tether kit they'd be willing to part with for the cost of shipping and a little extra? Even if you don't have a clip, throw me a suggestion for good and/or cheap VR titles I can play. I've already been recommended Alyx and it's in my wishlist right now, I'm not sure I wanna do Beat Saber, I've tried it on a VR at one of my previous jobs and while I like the tunes, I've already blown my annual rhythm game purchase limit with DJMAX at the beginning of the year. Thank you all for coming to read my ramble.
I FIXED IT! It connected to my vive tracker dongles. Thanks for the help guys!
My left controller works just fine, no issues at all. However, I can't say the same for my right one. It never seems to stop flying off in random directions or just lose tracking entirely. I do use a Pimax Crystal with my index controllers
I've tried:
Re-pairing the Controllers
Moving my base stations around
Getting another base station (bad decision, I know)
Covering up all reflective surfaces
Replacing the battery in my controller
Getting a new controller (bad decision, I know.)
Re-installing and Verifying the files of SteamVR
Re-Installing and verifying the files of all the games I play
Letting the controllers run dry and fully charging them
If there is ANYTHING I can do, please let me know. I'm desperate at this point
Have had 0 issues with vr for the past 2 years. 3080ti, i7 12700k windows 10 and didn't notice anything. But today I decided to update my drivers. It has been a long time since I did this, went from 512.95 to 552.22. And everything worked fine except my index. I put it on and noticed that when I turned my head the plates with the game names in steam vr home would sort of wobble around the edges like I was looking at it through water. I have it set on 90hz and tried setting it at 120 and 144 but that only made the effect worse. I dropped it down to 80 and it seemed a little better but was still there, and when I tried to play a music game I seemed to miss every note despite hitting them fine. I have no clue what could be causing this. I am not super knowledgeable about vr settings so any help would be much appreciated.
Hi, I'm currently having a problem with input to my monitor when my index is connected via display port. There will simply be no output from the monitor when index is connected, the only fix to this for me was disconnecting the display port. Tried switching outputs in my monitor's settings but didn't work.
Does anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it? Thanks for every advice!
As much as I hate admitting this, the valve index first setup is very annoying. I had to go back to windows to at least make sure it works, but I couldn't get the room setup done yet.
Still, I hope to see this working on Linux at some point minus the passthrough cameras. Any help on how to simplify this is appreciated. Updated everything I could and on to try again to play anything in windows.
My Index's left side Audio started crackling/cutting out here and there and at this point is completely gone.
First off, warranty is already gone so can't go that route. I have switched the right side speaker with the left side one to verify it is in fact NOT the speaker itself.
And so at that point I have decided to try and open the arm thing between speaker and main face piece to maybe see if anything is bad there. After opening the plastic without any of it snapping off (surprisingly), I verified that power flows between contact surface meant for the main piece to the contact surface/pins meant for the speaker.
This seems to me like it is an issue inside the main piece, but without much knowledge there or what to look out for I haven't opened it to try to find it myself.
What are my options here? Just sell it for parts? Is there some way to fix this?
So now that Pimax finally proved that modular glass lenses IS the way to go, can we get Valve to retroactively make full glass replacement lenses for Vive and Index?
Edit: Don't down vote without comment.
As the title says sadly.. Any VR game doesnt open in my Index HMD...
What ive tried:
Reinstall SteamVR
Use SteamVR in Beta
Reinstall Steam
Reinstall all USB devices
Reset HMD and controllers to factory settings and reinstall Firmware updates
Using 1 year old NVIDIA GPU drivers + Newest driver
Updated ALL drivers in my system.
Benchmarked PC and compared it to Benchmark done when bought and others. Same score still.
Tried the HMD on another PC and SteamVR. (This surprisingly worked)
Launched SteamVR in Safemode and without ANY addons (OVR adv. settings/toolkit)
Also verified all steamVR and all games files. All validated.
However i do have a seriously stupid workaround for now.. and it go as follows.
Restart steamVR (which also restarts steam for some reason)
Open game in non VR mode
Open steamVR
Close game
Restart SteamVR
Reopen game but in VRmode and watch it being blackscreened and wait for the HMD enviroment to stop displaying ''Playing next'' in the goggles.
Restart steamVR and hope game goes into Desktop mode. If does then wait for steamVR to open again and then restart VR game and tadaa....
LIKE BRO WHAT? I got to do this with EVERY game???
HMD works fine. Connections works fine.. Hardware works fine..
My right ring finger does the exact opposite of what my irl finger does. when I make a fist it points out. when I want to give a high five it bends down?
Anyone know why?
For stations, 2.5m over head (from the floor)
I'll be in this exact position, I mean, I'll moslty face like this and I'll be just in front of the station upper left, is it ok or do they need to be both in front of me ? And in that case, I should put this one just a bit more on the right (on the picture)
Hiya All,
Backstory
Hoping someone can help me. I have used my VR equipment for over 4 years. Have moved house a few times and always had 1 or 2 small (expected) issues or dead spots in my rooms.
However, my current room is a nightmare and I really cannot figure out what is going wrong. I feel at this point it might just be maybe the headset itself is dying and a senor or such isn't working properly but the issues I'm facing are that of a reflective surface (or some interference).
I have done everything I could think of in my room. Would really love some help or guesses as to what it might be.
The issue:
My left hand tracker experiences issues of wobbling and constantly losing tracking when in certain areas of the room. MOSTLY on the bed (facing the TV). The red bubbles show the areas of main concern.
I do also have some more minor issues with leg tracking but its mostly the left tracker. I have also tried with another set of controllers to try narrow down if its a controller issue. Same issues occur.
Video of my room (sorry if u see it) - Mostly how I have it setup, the lights are turned off when playing.

Some extra bits to maybe help
I am 100000% lost at this point what the issue Is. Any help would be BEYOND helpful as I'm starting to think I just need a whole new setup and that it might just be getting old. Happy to answer any questions I might have missed.
Thank u so so so so much for any help <3
I just bought an index and ive been really excited to set it up and play, but i keep getting error 436 about the display connection trouble, it might be the brand of display port i have im not sure but i really need help with this please. Ive tried putting everything in different plugs, restarting steam vr, my computer, the headset, nothing's working. Please help me. Is anyone using laptop that can recommend a brand of display port adapter that had worked? please send a link im desperate i need help.
i Booted up VR today and when i click the home button it makes my hands vanish, same thing with the button on the headset.
Any ideas?
So my company just got a big shipment in of used & returned Indexes that we will refurbish, and one of the boxes we opened contained this wonderful little note.. Which one of you?!
So I keep getting ghosted devices of ALL devices that keep flickering like they're in 2 different places at once. Additionally it appears that all these "ghost" devices are mirrored and 180 degrees offset. I uninstalled OVR advanced setting to see if that was the culprit, still doing it. I don't have anything that would be super reflective in my room and this issue just started after multiple days of playing. One new thing was an Nvidia driver update today. anyone have any ideas?
Edited for more clarity
It's as the title says, this is an update to an earlier post I've made after losing finger tracking. First Thank you to the kind internet stranger who sent me a replacement grip cap. Second now that it is replaced I looked at the old one and found the point of failure, it's the ribbon connector. It appears to have a fold near the trunk of the sensor pad, and that caused a full break in I lost tracking from the top Edge downwards which would correspond with the rip in the ribbon. I hope this can help someone else in the future.
i got my index in the mail today and i was playing boneworks and b&s and i couldnt find the alt use button like how the rift s had? when i say alt use i mean like the button to eject magazines and cycle a round into the gun. the rift s had a seperate button for that so im not sure where it is on the index if it has it.
Hello, so i got an index recently and on my left hand it works perfectly fine but everytime i turn on my right hand the middle and pinky fingers are clenched shut and i have to sit there and calibrate it for 5-10 mins to get it to the same as my left finger. Trying to see if anybody else had this problem and how they fixed it, thanks.
