Everyone might know this already but excuse me for being so obvious but there’s a company called Studio form https://www.studioformcreative.com/pimax which makes accessories for vr headsets.
I just bought a pu leather face gasket for my quest 3 and now it feels great to wear when I put it on so may buy a new gasket for my crystal light as well because I personally might be a fan of PU leather facial interfaces now.
They feel extremely comfortable and look like they could be cleaned with just a little wiping so they could be very reliable for years to come if you take good care of them.
If any of you can I’d totally recommend googling third party comfort accessories for your headset.
I personally wish third party companies would make PU leather interfaces for every different vr headset out there. If you’re trying to get into vr for long periods of time then those can be a real game changer and get rid of the pressure that the original quest 3 out of the box gasket puts on your face after like 30 minutes
Hey everyone! I am using Pimax Crystal and want to lock my frame eate to half of the refresh rate. I did it in Pimax Play 90hz, however when playing DCS ( I also select 45fps in DCS menu) it becomes quite blurry with tons of micro stutters. Actually during level flight and calm flights it is alright but if I bank my wings eraticaly or fly fast low level and look aside it becomes super blurry. Does anybody know how to resolve this issue? I have intel i9 13900, 4080 RTX and 64 ddr5 ram. Thank you
With windows deleting MWR and making my HP Reverb G2 a paperweight in the coming weeks, I need a new headset for sim racing.
All roads take me to the Pimax Crystal Light but I am seeing quality control issues everywhere online. I dont want to be without a head set for 2-3 months waiting on replacement parts. Am i overreacting to the issues i see online?
I have a 4080 so im not worried about powering it.
Edit - I bought it + the comfort kit. Wish me luck.
Hi,
In Pimax Play it shows the current settings as 'FFR Off' (bottom left):
Simple question really - how would you turn it on?
Cheers,
Matt
I’ve had a quest 2 for a little over a year and the tracking on it was amazing (albeit it has to be within the ir cameras of course) but it followed where my hands pointed super precisely and never drifted away. I got my PCL last week and have put ~10 hours on it and the included controllers are the worst things ever. Really cheap build and the tracking is garbage. Almost no imput delay or trouble tracking my hand moving fast, but the actual tracking when aiming down a scope in a game like Onward sucks. I cannot even snipe with these controllers because they drift left or right or don’t move when i make small imputs. It almost feels like theres some sort of algorithm thats trying to correct tracking or something. I dunno if its the cameras on the headset or the controllers themselves that are bad at tracking. Has anyone else experienced the same as me?
If I were to get new controllers which would be best? (preferably without spending $200 on basestations)
Hi!
My new PCL arrived today and after quite a bit of assembly work (lighthouse faceplate + comfort stuff + audio + presciption lenses) and struggeling to get it to fit comfortably, I was greeted with a not-so-nice experience. For most of the stuff I have just myself to blame (Didn't realize one of my base stations was in standby, had to do the setup with a remote management software on my phone since the PC doesn't have a normal display attached). But even after I sorted that out, the experience was a bit mixed:
My biggest issue, however, seem to be the lenses. The center is tack sharp, but that sharpness quickly falls off at the edges. There also seems so be some kind of weird distortion effect. If I focus on one point and move my head, its like a wave wandering through the picture.
I read a lot about people having issues with the lenses here, so I suspect mine might also have an issue - however, I am not 100% sure, since I don't have another Crystal to compare it too. I do have other headsets (entire quest series including pro, index, g2, htc vive xre) and all come with their own optical quirks. So I really struggle to tell if its just how this headset is or if I might have had bad luck with the lenses...
Is there something I could test?
I have an rtx 3060 paired with a ryzen 5 5600 and was wondering if my pc is strong enough to handle the pimax crystal light. I play games such as vrchat and beat saber
Hello Community,
In October 2023 I have bought a Pimax Crystal. It worked fine until July 2024. Then it has been replaced, it was a screen damage.
In August 2024 I got my replacement. And the eyetracking started to make problems. It stopped working 1 hour in flight (playing DCS). Restarting the Headset helped for some time, until it stops working again.
Then I started to figure out what the problem is and consulted the internet.
I tried several solution recommendations:
Nothing listed above helped. When I used the Anker hub, the eyetracking kind of worked BUT the left screen started to subtly flicker as soon as the battery hits lower than 50%. Thus it is not an option.
I contacted the support with that problem. They asked me if the hub has the white "IN" logo on it. Which I replied it hasn't. So without providing any solution the just said to me that it needs to be replaced but I have to buy it for 35$ since my purchase is more than 6 months ago.
BUT this is the replacement, the original had no problems whatsoever with the hub. And the replacement is only 3 months old, they still want to sell me the new hub without telling me what the problem might be or if the problem is maybe something else.
Even when I asked for explanation, why the hub might be the problem, they didn't give me any answer.
I do not want to buy something which might not even be the problem. And in my opinion it should be covered by warranty since the replacement is only 3 months old.
So beloved community, do you have any suggestions or solutions I could try?
Hi all,
sadly, I have to return my helmet,
with the time difference it takes 24 hours to get an answer from support team
so I'm trying my luck here;)
The support team indicates that you have to attach the completed form in the box but I don't know which form it is.
for those who have already returned their helmet do you know what document it is?
I asked the support but I didn't get an answer:
for those who received replacement lenses did you attach them when you returned?
Thank you in advance for your help
Got cyberpunk + phantom liberty + the free vorpx mod, but it crashes to desktop the moment it tries to start using the crystal. Strangely, if I do not put the crystal on my head it works.... until I put it on and then it crashes. Not sure if that's evidence of anything.
Anyone have it working? What hardware and settings? (I have AMD CPU, nvidia GPU).
Usually I'm here to complain about build quality but not today.
I got lead from the fishing store and beat it into shape then stuck it with Velcro.
Much better than two "Sacks of Balls" hanging on the back of your head and because it's very close, it helps a lot with drifting of hmd in movement. You can reduce it until you like it, I'm at 160grams now which feels good.
Hi together,
after seeing some very positive reviews on YouTube about the Crystal Light, I pre-ordered it at the beginning of the year. Presumably, only perfectly polished headsets were sent out for previews back then; otherwise, I can’t understand how no one could have experienced the issues that I, and apparently many others, are now encountering.
After four months, the headset arrived, and I was already prepared for it not to be a simple plug-and-play experience. I knew I’d need to invest some time to get the most out of it. However, I didn’t expect the problems to be so severe and nearly unsolvable for the end-user.
Distortion: Above and below the center, there is very noticeable distortion, especially visible when moving the head up and down, as if looking through glass bricks. I've never noticed anything like this with any other headset, and it’s extremely annoying.
Jitter: My setup is a Lighthouse system with three base stations, which has worked flawlessly with multiple other headsets in the past. However, with the PCL, the entire image is shaking. I tried to optimize the room as much as possible, covering reflective surfaces and adjusting the height and alignment of the Lighthouse system as recommended by Valve, but nothing helped. On Reddit, I found several users who had the same issue with the standard Crystal and managed to resolve it by switching to a fiber optic cable. Unfortunately, that’s not an option with the PCL.
Lag: When making fast head movements, the image takes a few milliseconds to adjust to the new orientation.
Eye Strain: It constantly feels as if you’re squinting. Changing the IPD settings doesn’t help much. This issue has already been discussed multiple times on Reddit and is supposedly fixable via the settings in Pimax Play. I tried this but, unfortunately, without success—though I admittedly didn’t put a lot of time into it because the other issues are simply too serious.
I opened a ticket with Pimax, and support responded quickly and tried to help, but unfortunately with little success so far. The Lighthouse faceplate was replaced, which improved the jitter slightly, but the lag remains. I suspect it may have something to do with the USB connection. Replacing the lenses did not improve things at all; the replacement lenses were just as bad as the original ones.
All in all, a very disappointing experience for a headset in this price range. Maybe I just had particularly bad luck, but if this quality is standard for Pimax, I can only advise against buying it. The better display is simply not worth the hassle.
It took a few days longer but now I have uploaded everything and now you can print it out and test it. If the ear pads fit well, the bass should be very powerful and similar to a Beyerdynamic 770pro. Unfortunately the ear pads are not the best but I will be getting gel pads in the next 2 weeks that will hopefully fit much better and therefore fit all head shapes better.
If you have printed it out, I would be happy to receive a review.

How is it? I am considering getting myself one of these. Not the light, the full version. I'm just wondering how good is the built in wifi for gaming wirelessly? What protocols would I need? I have wifi6 on my motherboard so I think it would be limiting the bandwidth?
Asus ROG Strix x570e gaming
Wireless Data Network
Supports channel bandwidth:
HT20/HT40/HT80/HT160
Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200
2 x 2 Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) with MU-MIMO supports dual frequency band 2.4/5GHz
Up to 2.4Gbps transfer speed
Also how is the picture quality and mic quality?
I've looked at some YouTube videos but they don't go into detail about the wifi streaming. I won't be using it as a PCVR headset. I don't like being tethered and the games I play I can't be stationary.
So most PC hardware channels don’t really focus on VR benchmarks and when testing different CPUs, they don’t even do high resolution benchmarks like 4K Ultra because they claim the games will be so GPU limited that it makes no difference.
So I’ve often had to rely on smaller more enthusiast level channels for benchmarks. But these aren’t specialist channels that can benchmark a whole suite of different CPU and motherboard and RAM configurations. It’s just usually when the guy manages to upgrade his computer. But I’ll take what I can get.
In this case, it’s comparing a 10900 class CPU (5 generations back) to a newish 7800X3D.
The video capture for the 10900 cropped the actual fps reading but MSFS still shows frame time and the performance overlay flashes red each time the system fails to reach the target frame time does allow us to see when the micro stutters appear.
So even if the average numbers may not be a huge difference across the two, the actual experience between the two through the headset is noticeably different with one virtually free of micro stutters.
Of course this may not answer your specific questions. I of course would be curious what the improvements would be going from my 14900 to a 7800X3D or better yet 9800X3D. But I still found it a useful video. Most of the benchmarks are in the first 1/3 of the video. The rest of it is just him going wow flying over Patagonia and feeling excited about Pimax teaming up with MS for FS2024.
Hope this helps
I'm wondering if it'll be back in stock for Christmas
Ok, so I've had the Crystal OG for some time now. I have the lighthouse and two stations.
With the original copper cable I had all sorts of problems, mostly the lighthouse not tracking consistently. Working fine sometimes and sometimes not tracking at all. No matter how many restarts / different plugging procedures I followed sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not. Sometimes it drained the battery sometimes it did not. Sometimes it charged when powered off, sometimes it did not.
Pimax support suggested to remove the built in extension, and that helped. I paid $65 to replace the extension and the USB hub too for good measure, still no news on when they are shipping them, and a month has passed (and I chased several times) (the headset is still under warranty, but extension and hub apparently count as accessories so have only 6 months warranty...)
I tried with another lighthouse face plate. Same story. Worked fine for a bit then stopped working.
Ok. Then I bought the fiber optic cable. Connected it straight into the headset, USB on the hub for the added power. Worked fine for a bit, then started losing tracking. Yesterday could not get it to track. So I took the hub out, connected the USB straight into the MOBO. Tracked immediately and very stable. Lost 1 bar of battery in normal use, but that's ok. Wonderful. Today it worked once, now it started not tracking immeditaly on boot, and I fear it will stop tracking altogether.
What drives me nuts is that any solution I find works very well for a couple of reboots and then it just stops working as if something were degrading with time which makes no sense whatsoever since we are talking days, sometimes only hours. Even if I resit everything, remove the battery, unplug everything, follow the exact procedure to plug everything back in the right order, once it stops working it, I have to invent a new troubleshooting procedure.
Faulty headset perhaps? Tech support does not seem to think so and now I am running out of the warranty period (I think the year expires tomorrow...)
Has anyone else had similar experiences? Is the Crystal OG just a piece of junk that is being granfathered and forgotten?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm trying to unplug the cable that's plugged into the headset itself but can't get it out, and I don't want to use too much force and break it.
Does anyone know what I need to do to eject it correctly?
Hi,
I recently purchased a Pimax Crystal Light and so far it has been great. No issues with the lenses when looking through the sweet spot like others have reported.
I do however notice a slight distortion/"fishbowl" effect when moving my head back and forth in the extreme periphery on both left and right lenses. It's not really that bad and is almost non detectable if I jam my eyes as close to the lenses as possible, but still kind of annoying.
Would this be a sign of defective lenses? Or is this just a byproduct/downside of the lenses being aspheric lenses? Visuals are very clear dead center. On the non-extreme periphery, text becomes a little blurred and hard to read, but still legible, still fairly clear, and not noticeable in-game.
Sinds the latest firmware 1.0.11Oculus games will start but then CTD.
SteamVR and OpenXR mode both the same! I roll back to the older pimax play version, still the same. Oculus doesn't work anymore. There is no option to roll back the firmware! I am on CPL.
whats happening? anyone have a solution?
(Also posted on Discord, light edits here)
I've also just requested a return and refund (edit) of a Crystal Light. I've had mine since early September and have still only have a few days' worth out the 15-day trial due to bad lenses. I got the third set - just the right eye - a few days ago and while it's improved, it's still got a clear ring showing blur/double image that I can't not see. I'm asking for a refund on the DMAS headphones and 15mm "comfort" pad too - I've had these a while but it was a chicken-and-egg deal; I bought the DMAS early to avoid the repeated out-of-stock problem, and I bought the face pad during the trial to try and improve the fit. Both have been used less than a couple of hours.
Positives first:
Now the negatives:
This is not my first headset. None of my others have had any of these problems; you strap them on, tighten them up, and you're good to go for hours. Pimax may well have class-leading displays, but sadly those displays are attached to a lot of other stuff that still seems like it's at "good enough for a tech demo". This arrived in early September and since then, I've had the headset on for probably 2 hours at most, with much of that being me shifting it around on my face trying to find somewhere that's got a clear display, and comfortable. I've achieved neither. When I've just decided to grit my teeth and peer through the distortions and put up with the pain, it's been unstable. Sorry, Pimax. I tried, I really did. At this point, I'm done.
I’ve heard on YouTube that there were some YouTubers struggling to even run the crystal light on a 4090 so they had to turn down their resolution? Will a 5090 be enough at all for the super or will we need more to get the most out of that insanely high resolution?
Hopefully someone eventually does Pimax Crystal Super vs Varjo XR4. The high resolution and the 50 PPD. The comparison would be shocking
I preordered my crystal headset before production started and received it 4 months after.
I started out with a 1070ti and a ryzen 7 2700. Moved to a 2080 super and a 3900x. Now Ive got a rx7900 gre and the 3900x.
I'm finding that I'm gpu bound but by frame times. I'm sitting at about 12ms frame time on the GPU and I think it is about 8ms on the CPU? I'm curious on what other people's setups are and what kind of fps/frame times you get
I mainly play beat saber and dirt rally 2.0 I've stayed away from new games due to the limitations of the 2080 super but going to check out some other titles now.
So I just received a PCL and to get the positive out of the way right away, it very clearly offers more visual fidelity than the Q3. This wasn't really under question, more pixels and a direct connection to the GPU will do that, it's just to say that it is something I couldn't look away from - very nice indeed.
My question then have to do with how to correct a few non-game specific issues - never mind the freezing when I launch No man's Sky, but there is probably something on my end for that.
My main issues have been firstly, I really wanted to believe the QC complaints were few and far between, and I certainly can't offer proof that they are not, but my lenses are distinctly blurry in different areas of the lens. Rough, but I've put in a ticket. Are they pretty quick about sending out replacement lenses?
Secondly, it is so damn hard to get into the sweet spot. I am finding that I need the bottom of the mask to be further away from me, but there is not adjustment on how far away the lenses sit from your eyes (ala some of the face cover pads offered for the quest). I am just constantly needing to use my eyebrow muscles to lift if up, or strain my eyes to focus. It's so good, but it's such a pain!!
I am here cutting foam strips and lining the inside literally as I race to push the bottom up and get an angle that doesn't cause the whole experience to go blurry.
Would accessories like the apache strap help keep me in the sweet spot.
Thanks!
This is the only racing game I have and it hasn't worked that well for me in VR. This is the best experience for me so far (RTX3090):
Pimax: 90 HZ upscaling
ACC: 50% resolution and 150% pixel density.
I get a consistent 90 HZ with these settings and it looks pretty good to me.
Anyone else have tips with ACC? What is the best VR racing game (Besides iracing)?
Hey everyone! I'm looking to buy a VR headset for sim racing, and I've been eyeing the Pimax Crystal. The thing is, the price is pretty high compared to the Quest 3, so I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it for me.
I'm new to owning VR, but I’ve tried it a few times and enjoyed the experience. From what I’ve seen, the Quest 3 can act as a virtual desktop where you can watch movies and play 2D games. However, I belive I read that the Pimax Crystal doesn’t support virtual desktop directly, and you need a separate app from Pimax to set it up (might be wrong here).
Here are my main questions:
Since the Pimax is a premium headset, I’d assume it could handle these features, but I want to be sure before spending that much. If anyone has experience with either headset, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
So I just received my PCL, and I set up the Pimax play software and tried to play DCS. However, DCS never showed up inside the actual headset. It just showed the sort of galaxy view. The DCS mirror did show up on my monitor though and it appeared to be normal, I just could not see anything in my headset besides the space scenery. I tried Falcon BMS and it worked totally fine, showed up in my headset no problem. Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
