Non-functional, getting frustrated

A few days ago I posted that I could not get PCL to work with MSFS2024 and got many helpful responses. I have tried them all. I tried SteamVR beta, SteamVR previous versions, OpenXR, PimaxXR. I removed and reinstalled Pimax Play. I tried simpler Steam games like Parliament and MarsVR.

Nothing seems to work. Parliament had no image in the headset, just a blank dialog box. MarsVR has an image but the controls are utterly screwed up. Could not even center to start button well enough to begin. I just randomly move around the environment without any regard to my input.

I have an Oculus Rift S and Quest 2 and never had such problems. Getting ready to return.

Is there someone from Pimax who can get on the phone with me in the evening when I actually have time to play?

Latest Update won't install (but which one is best for 8KX anyway?)

Hey there. So I'm getting an update popup for 1.35.02.01 and it downloads fine, but the "install now" button does nothing, the popup just stays on the screen. I guess I could probably just download the latest installer manually, which leads me to my question: Which version is best for the 8KX? The lastest or an older one? Because I've noticed a weird issue lately where the tracking will "unhook" sometimes in one game and in the Chrome VR mode (but when I call up the Steam VR menu, everything is fine until I go back to the game) Probably not a Pimax Play issue but doesn't hurt to ask for the best version for the 8KX 😅

PCL - Error 10600

I got my PCL yesterday and on the first day the headset worked, but today I only get errors when connecting it. First I get the 10500 error (both USB and DP) not connecting). After waiting for 20 min ++ the USB connects and it switches to 10600 error (DP not connecting).

Ive tried updating and backdating all drivers aswell as using older versions of Pimax Play without and luck.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and Ryzen 7 7700X

My question is: Has anyone who got the 10600 Error actually got a solution that doesnt involve a new headset?

Bad image after latest update

I don't know what happened but after the last update my video quality in VR has gone down drastically. It feels as though I'm at a lower resolution. Image gets blurry. I already have a distortion/tilted image but I'm waiting for my new replacement lenses. Hopefully it gets better with the new lenses. I doubt that will fix it. Even though with my previous issue of slight distortion and tilted image, I still had a good image. I'm running it with a RTX 4090, 64 GB of RAM and High-End CPU. Am I the only one that this has happened to?

Barrel Distortion Fix anyone?

Just bought a PCL- honestly I feel like I'm in an Aero with much less image persistence ( Fantastic) Better field of view/ blacks .......And HORRIBLE center point barrel distortion. My Lenses are clear. I bought from microcenter and if I can't figure out a fix it has to go back.....I really want to keep it but...... Anyone know Anything? Everything I find online in inconclusive.

Received replacement lens for my PCL but..

..it's still not great. At first i thought that only left lens has an issue (obvious blur spot near center of vision) but now, after living with the replacement for few months, it seems like there's a blurry band, almost like a ring around center of both lenses. To be clear, looking at dead center is pin sharp but looking a bit to the left, right, down and especially up puts one or both of my eyes out of focus. Then when looking more towards edges it becomes clearer again and then finally at the edges it gets (as expected) blurry. There's also pronounced barrel distortion around that ring, easily visible on startup galaxy image. Both lenses now behave similarly, with left replacement lens having slightly more pronounced blurry band.

I tried to visualize how it looks, first image is original galaxy image and the second one is how i perceive it through my PCL.

With my 5K+ (that i used for almost six years) area that roughly covers PCL FOV is uniformly clear without noticeable distortions (except very top and bottom). This is quite a disappointment, that a 6 year old headset with large FOV and fresnel lenses has less lens issues than a new headset with supposedly superior lenses covering much smaller FOV.

While at it, here are few more observations of my PCL:

  • panels are great, bright and colorful with SDE being only slightly noticeable on bright white and red uniform backgrounds. Local dimming works well.
  • lenses are simply not good. I also own Pimax 4K which has aspheric lenses and i don't recall type of issues described above. It was clear in the center with view gradually bluring towards edges (and no noticeable barrel distortion unless my eyes were too close to the lenses).

Since both lenses behave similarly now it's my conclusion that it's simply how they were designed and getting more replacements will not resolve this.

  • motion smoothing seems to be broken. This worked great in sims like MSFS on 5K+. Basically i could set my refresh rate to 64 Hz and, as long as i kept FPS above 32 (which is not difficult) experience was buttery smooth with only minor artifacts at low altitudes.

Now with PCL it's a stutter fest at 72Hz even though my FPS are above 36 (around 40-50). This forces me to use 120Hz motion smoothing since it's the least stuttery option at the moment.

  • audio from headphone jack is badly equalized. There's a huge bass bump that makes my IEMs sound like boom boxes. This was not an issue with 5K+.
  • tracking with lighthouse faceplate is great as expected while inside out tracking is passable for sims.
  • controllers are tolerable but not to my preference, was happy to return to Vive wands after receiving LH faceplate.
  • FOV is underwhelming, still missing FOV 5K+ had and immersion of my body actually being in VR that it gave.
  • no 60Hz option although advertised.

In conclusion headset is usable now and has it's wow moments as long as i keep my eyes centered. As soon as i start moving my eyes around lens issues spoil the experience.

Tracking issues

So back I got a crystal light with the light house face plate and I have 3 base stations (2.0) with valve knuckle controllers. But every time I'm in game my hands freaking fly off screen or is delayed making the damn game unplayable, and this happens with every game I played. Any help would be appreciated

Pimax 8KX as watchman for crystal light

Pretty sure I know the answer will be no, but while I wait for my lighthouse tracking faceplate, I was going to try and use my existing 8kx to pair my controllers. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this as when yi plug in both at the same time, pimax play registers the 8kx as the headset.

Anyone know of any workarounds outside of buying watchman dongles that would likely get here when the lighthouse faceplate does as well.

Pimax Crystal Light wont power on

Hey all!

I got my Pimax Crystal Light couple of weeks ago. Everything was working really great and I was really happy of the product. I got week off from my computer and now that I tried today to play again the headset was completely dead. There was no led light showing etc. Everything pointed out to that the DC power supply would be dead. I already measured it but it inputs steady 12.5V - so everything fine there.

I have tried everything to power on this headset. Pressing long time and multiple short ones etc. Is this some common problem or am I missing something obivious here? All help is appreciated. I still have warranty left but would really like to get these working without hazzle of sending back and getting new ones.

Took of my headgasket to find no magnets PCL

Arent there supposed to be magnets right there that hold the upper part of the headgasket in place?

did they skimp on magnets on my PCL?

pimax crystal light connecting then disconnecting continues loop

been using the pimax crystal light for about 6 weeks now with no problems at all

today i opened pimax play and the headset keeps connecting and disconnecting in a continues loop. went through similar reddit posts and tried all suggestions with no changed result

Now my PCL is perfect.

My PCL is now just as I want it to be. It is balanced, super comfortable, peekable, superb sound, and the image is amazing. Modifications include:

Replacement lenses by Pimax. Corrective lenses by HonsVR Top comfort strap from studioform from my Reverb G2. Balance weight from studioform from my G2. Extra lead weight. Modified hinge which let's the back sit lower. Earphones from Reverb G2 Back padding removed. Pimax 10mm faceplate pad. Extra padding to sides of faceplate. Removed nose rubber.

If Pimax want any R&D tips, I'd be happy to answer 😊

The Pimax Subreddit has a serious problem

There have been a bunch of jerks throughout the Reddit platform and for me this recently got much worse. Seems like all everyone wants to do here is be as rude as possible to Pimax and it seems they don’t accept people who have appreciation or positive feedback for Pimax or the legendary Pimax Crystal Light around this Reddit.

This is gonna be message saying that if you’re a customer who bought a crystal light and you’re happy with it then please get off this subreddit if you can simply for your own sake. Do not stick around here to listen to the rude mob of pimax users talking certain users like me down.

I will still support pimax and be on their Pimax discord server. I just want to inform people about the behavior of pimax users in this Reddit community because this can be a serious problem.

The reason the Reddit situation got even worse for me is because Pimax users on here have been looking at my profile history and have been bringing up overly sexual topics about me from other reddit communities on here behind my back to make fun of me and discriminate about my personal hobbies outside the pimax subreddit.

At this point I don’t care how annoyed users on here are with me because now it’s starting to become completely obvious that all people want to do on here is start up drama all over the community.

I just want to warn people about this situation and I expected better from a social media platform. There’s gotta be some sort of moderation on internet platforms that removes disrespectful comments to keep things under control to prevent chaos from starting.

Hopefully in the future the Pimax moderators do something about the users in this community their unacceptable and rudely disrespectful behavior so they learn a lesson that there are places where such topics do not belong and that you can’t just go around spreading information everywhere about someone’s profile simply because you ran into their profile history and saw it.

There are places in the world where you can’t simply go around saying stuff.

No matter what people say to justify starting extreme conversations about me from other Reddit communities. This is certainly not okay for them to do simply because there are kinds of topics that have no reason or business being mentioned here.

Pimax is just a company who is making pc hardware at a fair price to sell to people to make money to grow their business. There is no reason for Pimax to be dragged into such inappropriate sexual conversations about me by pimax customers on Reddit.

People really did not need to bring that up here for whatever the reason may be and drag the pimax company into it.

Hopefully someday users here get their stuff together

Crystal Wide FOV Lens

I'm assuming the wide FOV lens for the Crystal has been abandoned? Haven't heard anything about it in quite a long time and really had been looking forward to it as I love my Crystal and how it's running now. Just would have been nice to have had the increase in the FOV. The timetable for it coming seems to have come and gone and now that the Light is in full swing and it seems the ramp up has started on the Super that the original Crystal customers are just going to be left high and dry.

Disappointing as I really have been happy with my multiple Pimax products and this is a bad letdown in my personal opinion.

New Crystal Light problems with SteamVR

I see many posts from several years ago stating similar problems with promises from Pimax it will be fixed. SteamVR is not usable. There is terrible stuttering. The image is jumping around, often behind me. The controllers are not usable with them constantly jumping around. You would think Pimax would have fixed this over the years. PCL is brand new with updated firmware, Pimax Play, system and video drivers, etc.

My only interest is running MSFS 2024 so can bypass SteamVR if there is another option. The game does not show up in Pimax Play. Maybe someone can tell me how to add it manually. If I try to enter VR from MSFS2024 directly no image appears in VR, just white lines on black background, while my monitor shows a binocular image.

Very frustrating.

Pimax thanks for the update and can you please confirm warranty length per country area?

The standard warranty for Pimax products is one year, unless local laws state otherwise. In this case, local law will apply.

We will soon offer Extended Warranty for other regions. 

To make it more formal and clear can you please confirm the warranty lengths per geographical region, either on the Pimax website or as a preliminary measure here on Reddit?

It would take a lot of the guesswork away and help to reassure people. :)

Steam VR Virtual Desktop on Pimax Chrystal

Hello All,

i really could not find any clear statement.

I have bought the Chrystal Light and i am really happy with it. I use it for MSFS and Elite Dangerous. To run ED i run Pimax Play, Open XR Toolkit companion app and Pimax Xr control center (i open them in this sequence). When i start ED - Steam VR is started as well....

Now my question: What are my options to have a look at my desktop while playing ED ? Currently when i want to check Inara etc.. - i need to take of the Pimax Headset, Alt-Tab to get back from ED fullscreen VR view on my monitor to my desktop and check Inara in the browser....

Is there any way to keep the Pimax on my face and check browser, etc... ? And i do not have any controller (just the Pimax Chrystal)....

A big thank you to Quorra, and I'm finally done with my hell

Hello subs,

I want to share my experience with the RMA process for my Pimax Crystal OG VR headset. After a long and frustrating journey spanning over six months, my issues have finally been resolved, although not perfectly.

I want to express my gratitude to Quorra for their continuous support and assistance, which significantly helped move the process along. However, given the time and effort it took to reach this point, I find it difficult to be fully satisfied with the outcome.

For those who may not be aware, here is a brief summary of my situation:

I purchased a Pimax Crystal OG that had severe distortion issues with its lenses, causing walls in VR to appear as bulging spheres. Over the past six months, I encountered the following challenges:

  1. Initially, I contacted Pimax support directly, requesting a lens replacement, but received no response for about half a month.
  2. After submitting a support ticket, Pimax suggested I send the headset back for repair.
  3. Upon returning, the headset could not connect to my PC.
  4. The second RMA and waiting period lasted 45 days, but the issue persisted upon its return, and the headset now had noticeable internal noise.
  5. Through serious criticism and negotiations, I received replacement Lighthouse panels, which resolved the PC connection issue. However, due to the noise, the headset was sent back again.
  6. On its last return, the left earphone of the VR headset had no sound, prompting another RMA.

Finally, thanks to Quorra's supervision within the company, I received a brand new replacement OG headset, which was perfect and functioning normally. I coordinated with Chinese service personnel to extend the warranty until next December.

This entire process took from early July to early December, lasting approximately five months.
If all these issues had been resolved within a month, I would have praised Pimax's after-sales service.

However, considering it took half a year and required me to constantly chase updates, and facing poor experiences such as support staff claiming minor distortions were normal (which was later proven false by the perfect replacement lenses), having my support ticket closed immediately after a temporary fix without proper confirmation, and repeatedly performing the same test procedures dozens of times, my overall experience was quite disappointing.

What's more, all of this happened just before the release of the Super model. I'm not saying I deserved an upgrade from OG to Super, although I did pay slightly more than the cost of a Super (since I bought all the OG accessories).

In summary, my purchasing experience can be described as paying more than the price of a Super for a working OG, just before the Super was released, and spending five months dealing with issues.

Not to mention that when I purchased the 8kx a few years ago, pimax gave me a lot of assurances before I purchased it, but after I purchased it wouldn't even allow me to return it (express delivery was still on the way) and it would consistently shake with Basement 2.0 and I had to lose $200 in a week to sell it.

I'm not writing this to complain, as I have already given up on the OG. I plan to put the new OG back in its box and sell it in China's second-hand market, hoping to get around 60% of its original price.

I simply wanted to share my journey with Pimax over the past six months and express my appreciation for Quorra's efforts. While my experience with Pimax was awful, Quorra's work is commendable.

Warthunder with Crystal Light

I currently use a Rift S, I really enjoy playing sim planes in Warthunder in VR as it allows me to look all around me easily. However, I always feel like I am at a massive disadvantage due to the fact I can barely make out planes let alone if they are friendly or enemy until I am right on top of them and the hud kicks in.

Does anyone use the Crystal Light for Warthunder or similar games and know if the higher resolution makes it much better? However does it compare for example to a 4K monitor?

As well, when playing non sim games I always feel the FOV is too low on the Rift S, has anyone come from the Rift S to the Crystal Light who would be able to let me know what their thoughts are?

I didn't buy a Pimax.

Questionable build quality? Check.

Server and privacy issues? Check.

Price? Honestly - least important.

If you're going to be 2x to 4x more expensive than your competitors, bring something to the table.

Personally, I'd have bought and paid even more for your product if it had a real warranty (not 1 year) and I had faith in its durability.

I certainly don't want some draconian software either.

Hope you guys offer a better product in the future. I bought a cheap PSVR2 because everything currently on the market required too much compromise and I'd rather just wait for a different product.

About today's login issue

Today we had the first server outage in over a year, which lasted several hours. Here's a bit more about that.

Today's situation:

During today's server outage, many users were unable to open Pimax Play and use their headset, unless Pimax Play was already opened.

This outage was related to Pimax Play's login process, and completely unrelated to Pimax Prime.

Prime has minimal online requirements, and none after it's been paid off. Prime only checks whether payment has been made a few times:

  • When being activated;
  • 14 days after being activated;
  • Once a month after that, unless or until it has been completely been paid off. In that case, it has zero online requirements.

Going forward:

Pimax Play already has an option to use your registered account, or a guest account.

In our next client update, we'll add an offline option that has zero requirements to connect to the Pimax Play server (or any online server, for that matter).

We will also investigate what caused today's server outage, to prevent this from happening in the future.

Am I insane or the tracking on PCL is running at 45hz?

I don't know if this happened after an update, but my controllers ghost while the game is running at 90fps. Same applies to the headset, no ghosting in this case but any lateral movement in close proximity to something doesn't feel like 90fps at all.

Newbie dumb question

Dears,

Years ago I owned a pair of Nvidia 3D shutter Glasses and played almost every game with depth information on my EIZO CRT with mostly great success. Until new OS and lack of drivers stopped this fun and also Nvidia discontinued their shutter glasses.

How ist it nowadays with the VR headsets, can they do the same or do they need dedicated VR Games to work, I have no clue?
