I had no idea how stupid I am. I’ve DM’d on Owlbear, I’ve played on Foundry, I thought I would be able to DM on Fantasy Grounds. It has 1e/2e maps, which is what I play (in person with tabletop tv case). Cool! I can buy legally licensed maps (B4- The Lost City) and have cool maps already created that would be easy to display. Nope. It’s about the most frustrating thing I’ve encountered. Maps are not animated, and the system itself is so hard to use. Plus, do I need to buy the core books to play this freaking thing? What a waste of time and money. And the tutorials….all 5e and none of them display what I see when I log in (mine doesn’t have shit for tools on the right but the tutorials do, mine just has three lame buttons at the top left, chat tray, and lame dice on the bottom). Sure would love someone to tell me what I’m missing and doing wrong. Rant over.
How does VTTs deal with copyrighted content when developing an enviroment whose only purpose is making posible to use role playing sytems virtually? For example, if i want to use 5e D&D the software cannot provide copyright content, so, whats the work around?
I hope this question doesn't sound too stupid but it's something that i can't understand at all.
Does anyone know how to take the various map PDFs and convert them to .png/.jpeg for use in a VTT?
It is annoying that so many maps on DTRPG are available in PDF but not .png or .jpeg.
Thank you in advance for any help!!!
Konichiwa! this week i present you the Kumori Architecture pack part 3 , an asset collection entirely dedicated to asian buildings ( mostly japanese but could also kinda fit in ancient china or korea ). This pack complements the other two previously released packs following the same themes :
part 1 : https://www.patreon.com/posts/kumori-pack-your-112560842
part 2: https://www.patreon.com/posts/kumori-pack-114843428
part 3: https://www.patreon.com/posts/kumori-pack-part-117028669
and can easily fit with a terrain asset pack made with the same thematic:
https://www.patreon.com/posts/asian-cliffs-of-115204183
This entire collection is ideal for the creation of any fantasy asian themed battlemaps or can be mixed with sci-fi elements for cyberpunk games as well. Use it to build edo period castles, shinto temples, gassho zukuri stilts houses and so on. If you enjoy what you see you can support my work and get all theses and more at : https://www.patreon.com/c/WarpSpeedNyanCat

hello, me and my friend have been working on a new rpg where you roleplay as the leader of a kingdom for the last two years and are ready for our first public playtest! The game is called The Last Empires (TLE for short) and ultimately boils down to you are the leader of a kingdom trying to vie for dominance in a tumultuous period against both other players and npcs (called barbarian kingdoms). At the begginning you choose your territory on the map and culture. As the game goes on you gain territory, money, power and technology and your kingdom can be affected by random events such as natural disasters and plagues. Every few days one turn will pass (a few months in game) at which point you get money from taxes, food from agriculture, skill points etc. These few days are necessary to provide time to think, do battle, and have diplomacy and may take longer as the politics in game get more complicated. If you're interested please join the discord using this link https://discord.gg/2basjCXn . Hope to see you there!
Hello,
As the title says I am looking for some information reguarding VTT platforms. I am a 3rd party creator of DnD adventure modules. I recently started doing kickstarters and I am looking at making those modules available in VTT format. I have used roll20 both as a GM and Player but not Plus or Pro and I am considering Foundry VTT. If you have any experience creating or selling I would appreciate any information you can give me.
Mostly I am interesting in how was your experience integrating adventures in Foundry, if you have any feedback regarding choosing Pro or Plus on Roll20, if the process of selling/fulfiling smooth in either one and are there any other platforms you might recommend looking into?
Thank you!
Heroic Maps is creating a set of digital modular battlemap tiles, featuring dozens of different rooms, chambers and facilities that will allow you to build your own unique Bastion!
The new Dungeon Masters Guide (2024) includes a set of rules for introducing Bastions to your campaign. These rules allow your players to create a stronghold with multiple facilities and rooms, growing and developing it over time. It provides tangible in-game benefits, as well as excellent opportunities for roleplaying, scene-setting and storytelling.
The rules encourage the DM and players to have fun creating their Bastions, deciding the composition and layout of each one. What better way to do this, than with our set of highly detailed, beautifully illustrated modular tiles?

Here is a link for a free sample map, and the full Kickstarter, if you're interested. :)

Years ago Astral tabletop was my top tier vtt. Many of my games was played in there. Is there another VTT like Astral today?
So not only am I super new to VTTs, but I'm also extremely new to DnD in general, like I've played one time, but I'm pretty stoked to have found DMHub to play with some friends, but I have some questions.
Is it still being updated? Also, I'm playing around with the homebrew creator, and following the video DMHub has on their YouTube channel, I can't set a particular status attribute for a resistance modifier. There is a drop down menu that looks like it clips into another box above it, and you can't scroll to view the other items in the list. I know this is probably a long shot, but does anyone have any experience with the app, and know a solution?
This 15 maps pack includes a chapel, small portions of a cemetery, and a crypt containing hallways, burial chambers, and boss rooms. Perfect for a short, haunting campaign!
🌟 What’s Included:
• The "Phantom's Hollow's Crypt" 15 Hex Maps Pack
• The "Phantom's Hollow's Crypt" 15 Square Maps Pack
Hey all!
Looking to get into my own splash screen creation with digital art and photographs for personal use, not sale. Curious what tools you might recomend to make animated theatre of the mind maps on my own. Thanks for any tips!
Hey!
as the title says,
Im looking for a program that will allow me to make "nested" maps that are offline.
think WorldAnvil type maps.
I don't necessarily need a VTT per say, but that type of functionality would be helpful eventually.
I am using a defunct program called "Fantasy Mapper" out of spite given that worldanvil support did not assist me in getting a world of +7 years back from accidental deletion. but this program does not have the ability to make pins that can be clicked on to take you to another map, only pins with details sadly.
If you all have any suggestions I would be happy to hear them. thank you for your help!
I am trying to assemble my first World of Darkness online game on a VTT. I have several hundreds images of NPCs but I need to process them (ideally in batch) to do things like create a token version, a large framed version and a smaller "polaroid" framed version; I would also like to benefit from new AI in order to upscale small images or extend them and possibly show these NPC over different background and doing different things.
I started looking into it... and was instantaneously dizzy with the absolute deluge of options, from artflow.ai to artbreeder to using text based image generators like Flux and StableDiffusion, to photo editing plateform such as Fotor, Pixlr, Caneva, etc all the way to full professional suites like Adobe.
So I am wondering if other GM / Storytellers have experienced similar research and settled down on some of these, or other options. How do you use AI to help your gaming? How expansive it is? Which tool would you recommend? Any tool out there for some batch processing, or something enabling the design of hundreds of icons in the similar style?
I just bought a projector for projecting maps in DnD. I bought a projector rather than a TV because TVs are big and I don’t want to scratch it with minis.
Which VTT would be best to use for the projector? I want something that can project a map, and not let me accidentally change the scale. I plan on projecting the map onto a table physical minis, so the scale can’t change. Some custom draw able fog of war and measuring tools might be nice.
A lot of the design of 5e is meant to streamline time consuming tasks, but it can also make the complexity more shallow.
I'm curious if through automation 3.5 or 4e can become faster and may offer a similar level of game experience for tactical minded players or possibly a better experience?
Which editions of DnD have you played on VTT and how did VTT automation affect your gameplay from a tactical combat perspective?
I'm looking for a VTT or other program that has support for viewing the areas currently lit by torches, and keeps all the previously uncovered areas persistent with a fog of war.
I'm running a dual screen setup, so I'd like to be able to move a torch token around in GM view, and have a separate player view synced up to the GM view and displayed on another screen.
Owlbear + Smoke & Spectre used to be perfect for me, but with the latest update it's been very choppy and it has only limited persistence. EDIT: I was able to fix my performance issues by forcing Chrome to use my laptop's real GPU rather than the integrated one, and I was able to "fix" the persistence issues by cutting all of the discovered fog shapes after each session using owlbear's built-in fog tools.
Ideally I'd have a way to import things from owlbear + smoke & spectre but not sure if that's possible.
