Hi all. New to Arkenforge here. Running a digital display on a 50 in TV for in person play. Everything so far is working well with the exception of the grid. For some reason the grid on my player view screen does not match that of my DM screen. It is perfect on my DM screen. However it is far to small on my player view TV screen. See picture of my player view screen for details. Sorry about poor quality.
PS I know that the map has a grid included. However, the sale of the map grid is 10ft and I want a 5ft grid overlay.
Hi all, nice to be here - just built a new TV table and using Arkenforge to run my in person game sessions (using miniatures on the screen). I also have an IR frame to utilise revealing fog of war by moving miniatures. First session last night and went well, though there was one issue which I couldn't get my head around.
We first started using tokens set up as 'controllable' that the miniatures would sit on in order to move around and reveal fog of war. This quickly became very awkward and glitchy, with the miniatures not pulling the tokens with them properly, or picking up someone else's token or putting the token down in the wrong place - often on the other side of a wall, revealing fog of war they shouldn't.
In the end we gave up on the tokens and just used the miniatures themselves to reveal FoW - though this meant having to take away monster minis when not in view of the characters and constantly hitting 'reset fog'. Also they are moving around in the dark so would be good to add torchlight etc. to the tokens.
Hoping that there's something I'm missing in the interface or something I can do to improve how this works? Any and all suggestions very welcome!
Setting an overlay image simple doesn't work. It seems the filters work, but uploading a custom overlay image has no response. I've tried importing a jpeg, moving it into the game folder manually... Nothing.
Ideas?
Greetings all, I wanted to take advantage of the free trial for Arkenforge because the software looks amazing but I must be missing something really basic in the map maker because I can't seem to add even a simple texture beyond a single tile, and even that tile keeps being added outside of the area of the grid that I have in the view port. I've tried to follow the tutorials I've found on line but I can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong. Is there a really simple basic tutorial out there that takes you from install to creating your fist map for v 6.3.2.0?
I'm beyond frustrated at this point and I can't believe this software is really this hard and unintuitive to use based on the comments I have seen so I know I have to be doing something stupid or missing something obvious. Thanks in advance
Is it just my internet connection via Starlink from Australia but having terrible intermittent downloads…
Are there any server issues ?
My downloads constantly stall and won’t restart so have had to kill the app almost a dozen times already…
Any ideas would be appreciated ? I have my desktop PC upto date with packs is it possible to share those directly to my networked laptop to save the sporadic downloading again ?
Thanks
Hello all, I'm having some trouble with Arkenforge. Lately I have been having issues where I will place an object, line, or texture, and it will not be added to the layer stack, nor will it be selectable, but it *will* be visible on the screen. Ctrl+z has no effect on these instances.
I haven't been able to determine a specific cause of this or identify any particular actions that consistently result in these "ghost objects," rather they seem to occur at random as I use the software. The only way I've found of getting rid of them is to save my work, close the map I'm working on, then load the save. This is getting really annoying. :P
An example of a \"ghost object\" appearing on screen while the layer stack is empty.
In this screenshot I have been able to get an example of a texture scribbled on the screen that never got added to the layer stack, and is not selectable, but appears onscreen nevertheless. I have checked other levels, there are no objects in this map at all. So where is this coming from?
Anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know what causes it or how to fix it?
So I'm just getting familiar with the software and I was hopeful that there was a way to maybe minimize or move the side of the screen the toolbar is on the Masters toolkit. I've seen some videos of the "legacy" version where they were even pop out windows. It would make clicking things under the toolbar swifter for me
I've bought webm and mp4 map files from creators (for example CzePeku) and I would like to use them in Arkenforge for my in person games. I'm running into trouble importing the maps. Should I only be using the static maps? Is there a way I can use the animated maps I paid for in Arkenforge? Do I need to use a converter to make the webm/mp4 files into VTT files? I'm new to digital map, so any help is appreciated.
Hi Arkenforge Team, I’ve been making use of the blink effect, I was wandering if there is a way to make something fade in and out existence. So blink but slower?
Is there any easy way to switch or reverse which way a edge faces as you are drawing?
I would like to use Arkenforge but I would need to buy a Windows Laptop for it. I m not a PC gamer, so Arkenforge would likely be the most resource heavy application I'd run on it. The website lists contradictory requirements - is it
Minimum requirements : Processor : Dual-core processor (64bit architecture) GPU : Dedicated, possibly gaming capable graphics card : Nvidia GTX 700 series and up / AMD Radeon R7 series and up RAM : 4GB
Recommended : Processor : Quad-core processor (64bit architecture) GPU : GTX 900 series and up / AMD Radeon R9 series and up RAM : 8GB
or is it:
Arkenforge VTT Minimum Requirements OS: Windows 10 64-bit, MacOS (2016+) CPU: Any Memory: 8GB RAM GPU: Any Dedicated GPU (Not on-board graphics card) Hard Drive: 10GB
??? It's very frustrating.
Ideally, I'd like to buy a refurbed, older model, but I am unsure how big the screen would need to be to control maps comfortably and whether an integrated GPU would be too weak. Can you help me and/or give me some example laptops that aren't high-end but worked well for you for maps with dynamic lighting? Thank you!
I was wondering if anyone has experience running Arkenforge with a Lenovo 7i. I want to get away from Foundry VTT because I think Arkenforge would be perfect for our gaming sessions. Here are the specs...
I read somewhere that Arkenforge struggles with an integrated GPU and was wondering if this was still the case. Please let me know if anyone has information regarding this. Thank you.
Hello!
I am thinking about buying the Arkenforge toolkit, and $35 seems good for me, but I don't want to buy it and realize I might need to pay extra for some bundles. I am only doing a fantasy campaign, but will just the Standard Toolkit be sufficient or not? I'm just a kid without a massive budget so having to spend an extra 20 or 40 would probably be a deal-breaker
Hi guys, pretty sure I’ve just got arkenforge working on Ubuntu 22.04. Unsure if others have done this to, if they have I would love advice for usage! If other are struggling this worked for me: WINEPREFIX=install/directory wine msiexec /i ArkenforgeLanucherSetup.msi Then adding it to steam and using Proton version 9
I'm trying to find a non-online editor, capable of creating the map for a planet and then detailing specific zones, settlement, etc. Is Arkenforge the suitable instrument for this task? I downloaded the trial version, but It seems that I can't do anything with it until I buy the asset packs, and the info about the available asset packs is quite limited.
Hello,
I'm new to the VTT scene, and wanted to build a "table" with a TV with touch capabilities in order to take advantage of the physical to digital token (and fog and war and such), and wanted to know if anyone had a build out there or suggestions for a build? The idea is more the portable table version, such as this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieR2_Qnn9vM (i.e. no table legs and I can take it off/move it easily).
The general idea is to take a 50 or 55 inch TV, place a protective plexiglass on top, then possibly a conductive film? I see a lot of mixed stories about the film in general, let alone for something like a VTT.
Looking at the IR options, it seems it may break more than help (we would use 3d printed terrain at times, plus the 3d tokens). We'll have to solve for the conductive part (thinking just making little "token holders" that have a conductive bottom). However it seems like conductive would be the way to go.
I'm in the US, so the suggestions from Arkenforge would not directly apply, but I'm also not seeing too many recent posts on how well the conductive film works.
Otherwise, I may skip the entire idea of "touch" and directly control the tokens as a DM, but I figured I'd ask.
I'm not terribly concerned over pricing, few hundred is fine, but I wouldn't buy a fully conductive touch screen at 50/55 due to costs being in the thousands.
Any help is appreciated! Even if its a "don't go down this route, just manually run it as a DM".
Hi,
I want to build a gaming map with a 32 inch touch monitor, are there any video or website that help to tell you how to make something like this ?
Also, can the touch client be run on an android phone or tablet ?
If I decided to instead of a touch screen buy a normal screen and an IR Overlay, where would I buy the IR Overlay ?
So, I've bene using Arkenforge with my in for a year now, and it's gorgeous. I use my laptop + external player screen on the tablet.
Although, at the moment, my players tell me where they want to move and I move their tokens from the DM screen with my mouse. So I thought I could take the game to the next level, buying an IR frame for the player screen to let them move their own tokens.
Turns out, I misunderstood how the Touch Client works. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems it HAS to be on another device altogether, and It "spawns" vision points on the touch points. I just wanted to let my players move their tokens by dragging them around the player screen. How do I do that?
I’ve been using the grid scaler but getting it exact is difficult. If I have the dimensions of the map, say they’re 32X30. Is there an easy way to create the map in the correct scale? Thanks
My group is moving from remote to in-person. We have been using Foundry, but are considering moving to Arkenforge for the touch screen compatibility.
I have a few hesitations. Does Arkenforge have the PHB baked in or allow importing it?
Does it keep character sheets?
Does it calculate damage and hitpoints?
These are not deal killers, but something I need to consider.
Here is TokenTally hosted on a website so you don't need to figure out how to run the python script.
I have finally got my touch monitor set up with Touch Client, and it seems to be working mostly as it’s meant to. I do have a problem or two.
The horizontal scale on the screen seems to be way off. Touching the center of the screen performs as expected. Moving the point of contact vertically moves the cursor where I expect it to go. Moving the point of contact horizontally, though, moves the cursor farther and farther outward as I move the contact toward the edge of the touch screen.
I assume there is a way to adjust the aspect ratio in the Touch Client? The image on the primary monitor of PC2 is squashed horizontally, so that the grid looks like tall rectangles. I have the player map image from Toolkit set up satisfactorily.
My other issue is with the touch monitor. It’s a 27” ViewSonic, and while it detects fingers just fine, I haven’t had any luck yet with capacitive stickers for gloves, aluminum foil applied to bases, or anything else. I know that’s not an Arkenforge issue, that’s a ViewSonic issue, but if I figure it out, I thought documenting it here might help somebody. Alternatively, maybe someone here has already worked this out. I’ll check whether there are some native settings on the monitor, maybe the sensitivity can be dialed up.
Needed a quick way to convert some webp tokens to png so I made this. Kept adding features so now I think it's worth sharing.
Some features:
Paste, drag or open images in webp, jpg or png format
crop picture to token shape by dragging and zooming as desired
add numbers to picture and create a batch by specifying range (enter 1 in the overlay text)
choose size of exported image. (default fits squares on my system)
Option to just convert and resize
Created in Python

Hello. I was exporting a map to use possibly for Foundry after trying that out. However when I exported the map I noticed all of the lights were not emitting any light. However on the asset the lighting is switched on. Take these neon lights for example, it says they are on, but no light is coming from them anymore. It has done this on all maps I have made. Restarting the program doesn't work, neither does deactivating and reactivating the light.
*Edit*
Never mind. I found that it was disabled in the settings tab.
Hi, I’ve been circling picking up this program, and will the bit being my birthday today I have some money. Yay. Since Black Friday is coming up, I was wondering if there are plans for BF sales this year?
Hi all! I bought AF this past March and played around with it right when I got it, but I last touched it a while ago. Back then, I stumbled upon a drive/repository with many maps in the folders. Would someone be able to help me find that again? A buddy asked me to run a game for his son and his friends for the first time. I would like to know if anyone has something I can use in there. I want to make it memorable so they get into the hobby!
Thanks!
Obviously we're budget conscious, I don't think picture quality matters a whole lot here.
