The Page Toolbar update rolled back for me after clearing cache

Hi, I ran into an issue where Roll20 asked me to relog, which I did, then when I tried to login it took me to separate login page and would 403 when I tried to login. I tried for a bit to solve the issue but I eventually cleared my cache from the week on Chrome and I could login.

HOWEVER, after doing this, I opened the Page Toolbar and found it was the old UI (apparently, I haven't used the site before the update).

I should also note that when I used the site on my laptop, it too had this old UI, a few days before when I played a session physically. Thought nothing of it because it was a different device and idk not surprised stuff was weird.

Please help me, I'd love to be using the tools again like folders and such!

Dynamic Lighting alternative to blacked out areas?

Is there an option in roll20 dynamic lighting to make it so the player can see the shape of the map, but still have a semi transparent visual block that they cant see thru? The fully blacked out vision is useful, but it would be nice to have the option to have some maps blacked out, and some discovered areas or other specific areas be visible but but with a transparent screen so players cant see enemy movements.

Roll 20 newb questions

I have never played full game of D&D before. I like baldurs gate 3. And love fantasy and RP style games. I have always wanted to play but no one I knew, knew how to play growing up. So I just played Skyrim for 5000 hours lol.

So now I am 30 and roll 20 exists and seems like it’s worth a go.

But I am just a solo player. How does that work just jumping in a game? Is it worth it? Or should I look for a group to start a campaign with? Just want to have fun and not upset any serious players or slow anyone down type of thing.

Thanks!

Village Life - Ambience, Music, and Sound Effects for your Roll 20 sessions

Hey friends!

I'm the creator of RPG Audio Vault, an all in one audio solution to bring you high quality music, ambience and sound effects for your Roll 20 and TTRPG sessions.

This month I released "Village Life" which is a collection of sounds to use for villages and small towns.

You can preview it here: https://soundcloud.com/justin-jet-zorbas/village-life-preview/s-IWn8QYPnmYc?si=a611b3bf94404c65af8733b413bfccef&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

A bit about the creation process:

The ambience is a collection of my own personal recordings. I travel and record all sort of cool and unique sounds. The horse hooves were recorded at a medieval faire here in Australia. The crowd talking was recorded at a D&D convention, and the animal sounds were recorded during my travels around southeast Asia. I even added some blacksmithing sounds which I recorded myself. My cousin is a talented voice actor who helped add some life by coming up with all kinds of random NPC dialogue to use in the background.

The music features folk instruments such as a Nyckelharpa, Baroque Lute, Zither and Gemshorn to name a few. I really enjoyed composing this relaxing piece. :)

The Music & Ambience come separately, and there's also additional SFX that can be used on their own, including birds, animals, crowd sounds and blacksmithing sounds, which you can piece together to create your own unique soundscapes.

You can get these sounds to use in your campaigns in the $1 Bard Tier on the RPG Audio Vault Patreon, where I release new themed audio content each month. There is also lots of free content available in the Sample Pack, be sure to check it out!

Happy travels! ^^

Is there any macro to give permission to see to another player?

I have a macro that shows a handout to a player in particular, caused by discovering something on the map. They click on the token with the macro, and a handout is shown them referring to that handout. But, it doesn't show if players don't already have access to it. So, I thought that a great solution is that when it tries to show the handout, the macro itself gives permission to that player, and then shows the handout.

So, is there any macro that actually gives permission? If not, is there any way to hide notes from the journal, but accessible?

Changing who you post "as" efficiently.

On the bottom right of the UI, we can change who we post as. As campaigns grow larger, it can be inconvenient scrolling through the list. Is there a way to automate switching who you post "as", perhaps through a macro command?

I can't select my Druid Circle on level 2

Context: I'm trying to make a Shepherd Druid, but as the image shows..I can't select my Druid Circle. It only shows a 0. Is it a bug or am I dumb?

Does anyone know how to fix it? My whole build is based on the Shepherd Circle....

Need help making Templates for Savage Worlds

Hello!
So I'm not sure I used the correct Flair? If not i'll change it

I'm working on starting up some Pathfinder for Savage Worlds for my normal group soon. I am trying to build everything myself in Roll20 to save money, but as it looks like they don't provide MUCH in the way of support beyond the main books there has been a lot to build.

The only thing i'm stuck on is the templates. The large and Small Blast templates are easy, just 2x2, 4x4 and 8x8 circles. easy-peasy. The Cone and Stream templates I'm having difficulty for. Does anyone on here know of a place i can find something to help me with this? I have absolutely no skill with anything like Photoshop, so the easier the better.

Template Token Movement

I’m running a game that uses template movement for flying spacefighters (like the x-wing miniatures game) but manually dragging the templates and then manually moving the token is cumbersome.

If I got premium, would it be possible to automate this to some extent? Ideally I’d like to be able to click on the token see the movement options in a drop down menu, click the movement option I want to use and have the template appear, so I can preview the movement, and then if satisfied with how it will position the piece, then execute the movement. A bonus feature would be saving the movement to a “debriefing layer” that would track player and npcs movements throughout the battle so that the players could review it to see the moves they and the enemies made(kind of like the debriefing in ace combat where you follow the fighter trails for anyone who knows that game).

If any of that works it seems like making macros for range checking templates would also be possible.

Edit; to be clear I did try searching for this and didn’t have any luck

CTRL + Q to move token as GM makes it move slowly for players

I played with this hotkey feature a bit - CTRL+Q measures your character's movement before you move, right-click creates waypoints, and when you release the left mouse button the token moves to the respective position. Works both ways in GM view and player view-

Now here is my problem.
As a GM if I do this (move an NPC/Monster token) then the players see a slowly moving monster and its path. The Token is moving very slowly for them.
I tried this using the player view and GM view side-by-side
In GM view I move the token then for me instantly it moves in player view the path appears and the token moves slowly along it
Vise versa if the player does this I as GM see a slow Player token moving along the path.

Is there a way to speed it up?

EDIT: It's just Q not Ctrl + Q Solution is using the right mouse key to measure

Question about the find a group page on roll20?

I know no LFG but this is more of a technical question as I have a question when you are using the find a game/group does it take into account where your timezone roughly is I am hesitant to send an application to certain of these posts in there.

as an example "start x date 12:30 am gmt+2" but when I look in the description I see that the DM is supposedly from the USA or something akin to that timezone. so right now I am afraid that I am promising myself to a game that might not be in my timezone.

just generally confused and hope someone might have some answer as I could not find any for now

PS: Thanks in advance

Problem with links

Hello, I'm running my 1st adventure here on Roll 20 using 5e and playing the Zeitgeist Adventure Campaign purchased from the Marketplace. Also, I'm running on Chrome. As, I try to click the links at the bottom of each journal page to progress the adventure or any links in the description, it sends me to a cannot load page. I had the adventure on another game just to play around before inviting the players and everything worked fine, but on this game nothing seems to be working. Also, at times after I get the cannot load page, I can't open that journal page at all. We're barely into the adventure, should I delete the contents and reload it? If so, it says it deletes the characters too, is there a way to save them?

Macro Help

I have a macro that came with an API which I download to Roll20. The macro allows you to apply a status icon (blinded, flying, fear) to a player token. It also will remove the status icon if you apply the same status to the same player token again with the macro.

I want to add a new feature to this macro where it will post an information card in the form of a jpg image to the game chat about the function and rules of the applied status. (Roll20 default status icons already do this but they are hard-coded into the site and force you to use the default status icons in order for it to work) The card(s) I want to post will just be a jpg image and will be called by the URL of the image after being uploaded to Roll20.

My plan is to make a separate macro for each status type that independently posts the info card image URL string into the chat (this I know how to do) then have the main macro call the image macro in the same string that is already adding the status icon to the player token. However, I don't know how to chain that new image macro into the existing code so it's executed when a particular status is selected.

Here is the full macro I'm using. If you can point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful.

MACRO:

!token-mod ?{Status|Concentrating, --set statusmarkers#!stopwatch|Readying, --set statusmarkers#!stopwatch|-, |Blinded, --set statusmarkers#!bleeding-eye --flip light_hassight|Charmed, --set statusmarkers#!broken-heart|Deafened, --set statusmarkers#!edge-crack|Frightened, --set statusmarkers#!screaming|Grappled, --set statusmarkers#!grab|Invisibility, --set statusmarkers#!ninja-mask|Incapacitated, --set statusmarkers#!interdiction|Paralyzed, --set statusmarkers#!pummeled|Petrified, --set statusmarkers#!frozen-orb|Poisoned, --set statusmarkers#!chemical-bolt|Prone, --set statusmarkers#!back-pain|Restrained, --set statusmarkers#!fishing-net|Stunned, --set statusmarkers#!fist|Unconscious, --set statusmarkers#!sleepy|-, |Blessed, --set statusmarkers#!angel-outfit|Raging, --set statusmarkers#!overdrive|Marked, --set statusmarkers#!archery-target|-, |Dead, --set statusmarkers#=dead|-, |Clear Conditions, --set statusmarkers#-bleeding-eye#-broken-heart#-edge-crack#-screaming#-grab#-pummeled#-aura#-chemical-bolt#-back-pain#-fishing-net#-fist#-frozen-orb#-interdiction#-sleepy#-ninja-mask#-dead|Clear All, --set statusmarkers#-bleeding-eye#-broken-heart#-edge-crack#-screaming#-grab#-pummeled#-aura#-chemical-bolt#-back-pain#-fishing-net#-fist#-frozen-orb#-interdiction#-sleepy#-ninja-mask#-angel-outfit#-overdrive#-blue#-stopwatch#-archery-target#-dead}

Macro question for adding elemental affinities

Hello. I'm creating a game that's based in 5e mechanics, with some tweaks. I'm trying to figure out how to add an elemental affinity modifier to spell and attack rolls of specific damage types, but I would also like it to scale with the player's level. Here's what I'm trying to add:

When casting a spell or executing an attack aligned with a player's affinity, the damage increases by:

+2 for levels 1-3, +4 for levels 4-6, +6 for levels 7-9, +8 for levels 10-15, +10 for levels 16-20,

There are eight possible affinities:

1 - Earth, 2 - Fire, 3 - Water, 4 - Ice, 5 - Lightning, 6 - Thunder, 7 - Light, 8 - Dark,

Each player will have one affinity to begin with and a second at level 10.

I can add the modifier to individual spells or damage types with macros, but I can't figure out how to get it to scale with the player's level. Any help would be greatly appreciated, assuming this is doable in the first place.

Roll20 vs Foundry

Typical question… roll20 or foundry…

I usually play 2d20 modiphius systems, mostly Dune: Adventures in the Imperium, also play Lex Arcana and Forbiden Lands…

I’ve already tried both TTS and not totally happy woth anyone:

Roll20

  • Easy, is like plug and play
  • Not to much fancy interface
  • Not personalization options
  • Must work and learn a lot of macros
  • Don’t have things like a counter of momentum and threat
  • Their character sheets and other things are perfect and beautifull

Foundry

  • Is not plug and play, is complex to start using it
  • interface very cool and easy
  • Lot of modules and options to personalize, like make a landing page or pretty cool effects, very visual
  • Must worl to learn about modules and how to work with it
  • Good integrations with many sistems (also have a counter of momentum and menace :))
  • Most of their character sheets in games that aren’t PF or D&D are not so fancy

Help me 😁, I’m leaving things? Any different opinion??? By the moment, I like Foundry for make things beauty and cool for the streaming of the party. But also like roll20 because is more easy for the party and me…

Does the size of the page itself greatly affect Roll20 performance on potato-grade laptops? Like, if I'm using the exact same assets as a smaller map but they're spread across a larger grid, would that by itself affect usability for someone with ancient integrated graphics and memory?

My players' hardware ranges from gaming rigs to Chromebooks, but I do some pretty dense layout of smaller maps with a lot of tokens and they handle it fine. Now I'd like to use some large but simple maps at an exploration scale all on one page with heavy use of the basic fog of war, no dynamic lighting, with quite a few individual character and prop tokens. Ideally, maybe a 5,000x5,000 pixel area, but that seems like it might be pushing it. What do you guys think about that from a usability front for the low-end hardware users?

Turning off explore mode for immersion?

not really a technical question, rather "how do i use the provided tools to its full potential?" and "what are your thoughts?"

Setup and story time:
We're playing DnD 5e. I have recently run a dungeon with some pretty narrow and claustrophobia inducing parts (with consent of my players and discussed session 0).
For this i have turned off the explore mode and basically left the players in the dark, literally.
This was a pretty small and linear dungeon were they couldn't really get lost. That is why i decided to try this use case of dynamic lighting on my players.

Warning for claustrophobia in this paragraph.
This came to its full use when one character stayed back to assist her companions on the upcoming passage only to get stuck herself and essentially be left on her own, with only 4 squares at most visible on the map. After a series of really close call skill checks, she emerged on the other side, bruised and ruffed up.

After the session, one of my players (who is playing the previously mentioned character) told me how much he liked the immersion of a dark cave without explore mode and suggested to use the same on a much bigger dungeon. I told him i'll keep it in mind.

I fear, that a larger dungeon might become frustrating to navigate and keep track of as a player without explore mode. But i can also see benefits on intentionally maze like dungeons for example to be more challenging or immersive if needed.

What are your thoughts? have you tried something like that yourself?
