Leeds Rhinos 18-16 Wakefield Trinity: Full-time Review of my First Game.

This being my first game of Super League teams playing each other, I did not really know what to expect, but I can firstly declare that I exited the stream feeling even more convinced that choosing Trinity was a good choice.

While we started the game slowly, making several mistakes and allowing Connor to get 12 points in 15 mins, we improved defensively preventing the Rhinos from scoring any more during the first half. Seven minutes into the restart - emboldened perhaps by several interchanges in the Leeds backline, Booth made a great interception and try, while Olly Russell converted to reduce the deficit to 6 points. Following a period of ascendency, Seth Nikatemo had a good run and try on 62 mins, with Russell converting to equalise. 10 mins later, an overlap by Dom Sinsfield is touched down despite a belief that Leed's defence had done enough to deal with it. Despite Rourke failing to convert the try, Wakefield led 12-16.

However, Leeds promptly caused chaos from the kick off which we couldn't deal with - following a horrible bounce, George Brown touched down, and Leeds converted to lead 18-16. The scored stayed like this during the final minutes, The game was a lot closer than I (and others I'm sure) expected it to be, but I cannot criticise the general performance the lads put in. Mistakes can surely be minimised with match sharpness.

Booth, Nikatemo and Sinsfield are to be applauded for getting points on the board, with Russell deserving praise for the conversions despite how rudimentary they may have been. I also wish to highlight Scott, and Warmsley.

All in all, I am really looking forward to the coming season! Up The Trin!

I’m missing the super league

Just random post. By the end of the season I will be bored with the loop fixture… but right now I’m missing it. And I’m one of the weird ones in sub that actually likes Union too… but although games of the premiership has been quite entertaining, super league hits differently. Another random thought. I’ve been an expansionist in the past but I’m on the opposite boat now: make the roots as big as possible and will talk afterwards.

First Super League (+) game - what to expect?

Purchased tomorrow's Boxing Day clash between Leeds and Trin. Up The Trin!!!

What can I expect regarding performances in this friendly, tactics, etc - will players be a bit rusty or will most of their season prep be completed and it's just about rebuilding chemistry and familiarity adjusting to the Super League after a year in the Championship?

Will the performance from both teams be indicative of how the respective seasons are looking?

In addition, what can I respect regarding commentators, stats that show up on screen etc?

To all fellow Trin fans and Leeds fans, do you have any predictions?

New to League, got a team and can't wait for the season!

Although I have watched the occasional NRL game on Sky, I never followed the sport as I do association football, owing to having no local professional sides.

Thus being a football historian and having some basic knowledge of 19th century rugby, I have decided to pick a team to follow.

I have decided to follow Wakefield Trinity and while my reasons may appear quite shallow I'm excited to keep up with this team.

  1. Logo; I really dig the Trinity logo! The shade of the blue and the white shape is really aesthetically pleasing.

  2. Historical; yes, I know most of the Superleague teams date back to the 1870s, but I really like the history of a side that was founded in 1873.

  3. Underdogs; Trinity only have two top-tier league titles (in the 1960s) and 5 Challenge Cups (with the most recent being in the 1960s). With having achieved promotion last time out, it's even more the underdog story.

If anyone has any useful general links for the best Superleague content (podcasts, etc) id love to have some!
