New to Salford!

Hello everyone, not too sure how active this sub is, but I suppose it’s worth a post here anyway :)

before I moved here from Bury, lots of people were fear-mongering about how rough Salford is, and yeah, it has some dodgy ares, but uh, welcome to the UK. Most places have their sketchy areas. If you live somewhere that doesn’t, then I’m glad for you, but always remember to be grateful for the privilege.

Anyway. I live on the Height, the area behind the Aldi.

my question is, are there groups or communities for different interests? I’m short familiar faces and I live in a houseshare where two of the dudes are polite but don’t speak enough English to have proper conversations. Another guy is hardly ever here, and the dude is an Irish guy that is cool in small amounts, but he’s not interested in conversation. He wants you to sit there whilst he talks non-stop about Hollywood and anyone considered ”woke”,so you. Can understand why I’m not keen to spend time with him.

so, what’s there to do around here?

Interested in visiting Salford Lads Club from St Helens. Is this feasible?

I'm staying in St Helens right now and am interested in visiting Salford Lads Club. Is it reasonable to catch a bus to the train station in Earlestown and then catch a round trip train to and from Salford to see Salford Lads Club?

Or would this be a hectic and unreasonable journey?

Swinton Park Golf Course

Does anyone know what the plans are for that? Would be such a shame to turn it into houses when it could be a lovely park.

Worsley

Agencies advertise houses on rightmove as located in Worsley while they are not. I found different maps showing different boundaries of Worsley and a bit confused about Worsley’s boundaries so would appreciate some clarification where it starts and ends. Thanks.

Council tax help

Looking for some advice from anyone who has had to appeal a council tax bill. I’ve been trying to get in contact with a real person, but have had no luck.

I’ve seen on their website that I have to write in. Just looking to what type of information and supporting evidence I should include in my letter.

Thorn Court, Salford

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with living in Thorn Court in Salford? I may be offered an unfurnished flat there with social housing in the near future.

Citizen engagement in Salford

Hi Salford, my workmate is reluctantly doing a presentation on citizen engagement in Salford - basically looking at how the council engages with residents. I wanted to see if Reddit could help! How do you take part in democracy in the city - did you vote, have you written to your councillor or MP? Ever been to a citizen’s assembly? Are you part of an organisation that engages with Salford residents? Have you any ideas for how the council could work better with residents? All ideas, stories and info very much appreciated. Thank you!

Moving Soon

Hey everyone,

I'm moving from Bolton to Salford with my family and I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a good moving company? We are moving from a 3 bed house with 2 kids and 2 dogs. You could say we have a lot of stuff - 3 beds to dismantle, and 2 closets. Nothing particularly fragile but we have some large prints and mirrors and then just the usual furniture and a lot of house plants 😅

We are moving in November so I have some time to shop around. No man with vans please, I would like an ACTUAL moving company. Thanks so much and looking forward to a new start in Salford!

Moving to Salford - opinions on this part of the Heights please

Is the area circled above (north side of Broad Street) considered an okay area for a young couple that keep to themselves? Any particular areas to avoid due to anti-social behaviour or crime?

Parking around salford quays

Hi,

Does anyone know of any parking available on a monthly/yearly basis around salford quays. I've seen some of the spots on yourparkingspace but seem quite expensive.

... or if anyone knows any free street parking nearby would be good too!
