Riddles must be self-contained in words. No outside links, no images.
All guesses and discussions of guesses must be spoiler-tagged. A spoiler tag begins with >!
[no space after] and ends with !<
[no space before]. If your spoiler starts or ends with a space, it won't work on all platforms, so try to be careful about that. See Automod's comment in (nearly) every post for more instructions. You can ask the mods if you need more help.
Posts should be riddles. Riddles involve creative thinking.
Creative thinking is a change in perspective or trick of wordplay that needs to be grasped to solve the riddle. Your post may be removed if it does not rely on creative thinking. For example, the riddle "What gets wetter as it dries?" is solved by identifying a change in perspective. Once we re-interpret "dries", we realize the solution is "a towel".
IF LOGIC, MATH, OR OTHER ANALYTICAL THINKING IS INVOLVED, IT IS NOT A RIDDLE. See /r/puzzles or /r/trivia for other types of brain exercises.
No riddles from active competitions.
Unless the host of the competition tells us it's okay, please don't post riddles from competitions until after the competition has ended.
No hate: No harassment, no racism, no bigotry of any kind. No politics.
No trolling. No shitposting.
Please don't Google the answers. If you cheat, please don't post an answer
Please use a descriptive title. A good strategy is to use the first line of the riddle as the title.

Three graves open with no tears
And in crouch three soldiers
Not in a row but paired and solo
Where they go, they go low
They brace, they flex
They do their duty and relax
6 riddles that I made in prep for my D&D session.
Hope for your feedback.
One
Though no blood we ever shared, she ensured my dreams sound were.
Two
Loved to move, hated to stay. Had his home in branches' embrace
Three
Forever loyal, forever quick. Her bones collection growing each week.
Four
Always kind, always sweet. Her loving touch ancients is.
Five
We were different, yet the same. Only our outside looked the same.
Six
Protector and guide, with warm smile. Playing tough, yet soft inside.
What can you keep after giving to someone?
Sleepy volcano rising up past
The mantel, through clay and oak,
Above the ridges and the valleys,
Flashing too, now there is smoke.
Someone must explore its dark cavern,
Avoiding the spurts of flame.
Unless its chamber is closed off, full:
A mountain, now cold and tame.
Riddle me this:
Who leaves a gift one month a year
Exchanged for verse of joy and cheer?

Happy riddling, and good luck!
In cloaks of night, I roam unseen,
A silent watcher, where I have been.
I weave through shadows, both subtle and sly,
A witness to secrets that flutter and fly.
I have no form, yet I leave my trace,
In whispers of time, I find my place.
Ancient and wise, I’ve seen empires rise,
Yet I’m but a breath, a fleeting disguise.
What am I, elusive, in realms of the mind,
A phantom of thoughts, to the curious blind?
Riddle One
Riddle One I am the spark within the flame, The essence tied to life and name. Invisible, yet I guide the way, What am I, that none can slay?
Riddle Two
Riddle Two Born of pressure, in secret deep, I grow in stillness, a pattern to keep. With facets sharp and edges bright, I capture light, yet flee the sight. In me, the past and future blend, What am I, that time can't bend?
Riddle Three
I take the form of mind and hand, My birth is slow, by will unmanned. From chaos, I create my art, A fleeting thought, a perfect part. Not born of fire, nor of stone, Yet I endure when time has flown. I am the link ‘twixt dream and skill, What am I, wrought with patient will? hint: >!first letters to each word 1.S 2.C 3.C (edited)!<
Rearranged, I am a stool, but I have no legs.
Those of me more civilized are rather coy.
What am I?
~ ~ ~
Answer: >!a carp!<
Explanation: >!When rearranged, the letters in "carp" can spell "crap," another word for feces or "stool." Unlike the kind of stool you sit on, a fish has no legs. Koi (coy) fish are a domesticated breed of carp.!<

I'm going to post a Christmas riddle each day this week. Here's a fairly easy one to start off with.
A layer thin and flat,
Flakey, moist and pale.
Delicate and difficult
But won’t go off or stale.
Uses lots of water,
Though salt is a mistake.
Rolled up into balls
That nobody should bake.
A sprinkle on the surface
Or heavy, swirling, dense.
Doesn’t have much flavour
But a mouthful is intense.
I’m a full-bodied queen, round and vast, A gassy girl with a swirling past. My beauty’s marred by a blemish, they say, A red spot that won’t go away.
I’m surrounded by my faithful crew, Forever twirling in my view.
Who am I?
The legs of this horse are different lengths
No eggs of course but watch me drinks
Hi, everyone! I'm a naturally curious person, but my GF insists to keep my Christmas gift a secret so I asked her for a hint and she gave me a riddle.
Here it is: i bare the weight of stories untold in chambers of sound young and old a relic of time beneath a silver star
I'm thinking that it could be a record player (she knows I love record players and would love to get one), but I don't know. I've never been really good with puzzles and riddles. She says it's close though (but she could be lying to mislead me).
My friend asked me the classic riddle “what walks on 4 legs in the morning 2 in the afternoon and 3 at night” ofc i said a human. But he proceeded to ask me “what walks on 2 legs in the morning 4 in the afternoon and 3 at night” and i was puzzled. Help pls
Ive tried treasure, booty, knowledge and book but its not the answer? what is the correct answer anyone got ideas?
In the still of creation, my form was devised, a shadow of symmetry, by silence advised. Echoing the heavens in grounded embrace, a sailor's nightmare, with a warrior's grace.
Forged in stillness, I bear no flame, yet the whispers of poets, dispute my name.
A fleeting perfection, in realms few yet far between, tools of the hidden, silent and unseen. Bound by time, my edges gleam, quiet echelons of a celestial dream. Born in depths of darkness and despair, alas, there exists no appetite beyond my repair.
My chains bind me, nature holds the key, I envy those adrift, longing to be set free. Aligned patterns, separated by land, a cipher of balance, leaving no traces in the sand.
Cast from ancient fragments, vast cosmic schemes, precision resides, more than it seems.
Try to find me with all your might; I vanish quickly as day turns to night.
edit: the answer is only one word.
noone has solved it so far, so here is a clue:
!To reach it, wings must take their flight,!<
!But mortal hands can’t grasp its height.!<
!Immortal you must truly be,!<
!To touch this thing of mystery.!<
a bird that does not fly, speaks without a word, often to disturb, and is universally heard
You mourn with me, but don't be sad
Come over, hang out at my pad
*Life short, but pure, 'neath death's restraint *
So gild not gold, eschew the paint
Hope you enjoy all, I rather enjoyed this one!
I am not born, yet I am the cause, I shape the world with unseen laws.
Though you cannot see me, I make all things move, I guide the stars and live through you.
I am both the particle and the wave, I am what the unknown craves.
Without me, time would cease to flow, And matter would have nowhere to go.
What am I?
Answer >!Perspective!<
In time I come,
For time I serve,
When time is done,
All reality can curve,
I start again,
New time will be,
There is always time when you are me.
What am I?
I make my arrival in moments yet unfolded or folded past,
For my very existence is intertwined with the essence of time itself.
I serve the passage of time through holes connected,
An eternal witness to the dance of existence as it ebbs and flows.
When my purpose reaches its conclusion,
The threads of reality may twist, bend, and reshape,
For I am boundless to time’s rhythm, and I am its silent user.
Yet, even in the end, I am not truly finished.
I begin once more, starting anew,
Breathing life into another cycle of time’s relentless journey.
For wherever I am, time continues without end.
My presence perpetuating with no direction,
And in my absence, you succumb to its presence.
What am I?
pls help (>人<;)
(ps: a clock, time, moment, calendar, year, eternity, cycle (or a loop), the present (or now), pendulum, sand, hourglass, a story, a narrative, change, The Universe, circle, emotion, love, reincarnation, spiral, The big bang, circadian rhythm (Body Clock), black hole, fate, death, sundial, memory, entropy IS WRONG)
(another ps: this riddle was given by a friend and she holds the answer. She stated that out the hundreads that tried to answer it, only 2 have gotten it correct. So i really wish to know what the answer to this riddle is)
What am I?
"My inside come from you. You make me feel like I can fly and that is what I do."
Letter hint: L is in the word
I have some ideas of the answer but I'm not 100% certain. What do you all think?
"I am found in sight, clueless to many, Unavoidable to some. I am stolen even in the darkest of nights with only a look."
What am I?
I guess I’m a criminal,
Always up to tricks.
When it comes to charges,
I’ve got myself six.
I’m all over the news,
But they don’t show my face.
They say my friends and I
Are destroying your place.
I can fly through the air,
No need for a cape.
You can see me in winter,
With two friends, mid-escape.
I can silence a family,
With no blood left- no stains!
With their bodies burnt
I am all that remains.
What am I?
What am I?
My siblings are many, each is what I am too.
What I am is what I do and what all of us do.
Each does what we are and just by the by,
When one is alone, there is no more I.
So what are we and what am I?
Solution here: !Each of my siblings is a fly and a fly is what I am too. I am a fly, I do fly and all of us fly. Each of us flies and we are flies.
And when "flies" becomes "fly", the I goes bye-bye.!<
I am what people believe to be an ally of the truth,
But am in reality a more dangerous obstacle to the truth than a lie.
I can make people confident, persevere, make fasts decisions in life, and steadfast in their beliefs.
With enough validations, I can be mistaken for the truth.
What am I?
What am I?
What does a young man want, an old man have but a dead man gets?
The answer is not "Nothing"
